Dude. Those are awesome ideas, but the old devs didn’t have anywhere near the capability to do what you are talking about. Like nowhere close to it. Having said that, let’s try to pull together and hope these new devs are nothing like the old ones. Fingers crossed guys 😉

what new devs?? they are bringing in a new team of low-mid rank employees, but jatheist is still the one leading the team so i wouldnt be too excited if i was you.

I have to disagree. The loyal people you are talking about is such a small fraction that they really aren’t important. I know some people feel that if they are loyal they should be honored or treated differently but that is not the case at all. The needs of the many will always be more important than the needs of the few.

isnt not to be lied to a need of the many (if not of all of us)?

  3. Well,  in regards of the wipe  as much as i hate to put salt in the wound it was evident the direction in wich this game was going, the moment they introduced decay timers i knew that they were not considering player's time investment something valuable, so as much as i critise their (many.. many) wrongdoings i think this one is on the community, you sinned from innocence while having clear indicators of the truth.

That said, what they have done to PVE NA surprised even myself, honestly i cannot imagine how pissed i would be if i was still an active player and they pulled that one on me, my best advice is to use that anger you must be feeling right now as fuel to detox yourself from this game and give yourself the chance to know the many great games that are waiting for you out there, i know you will be reluctant at first but eventually you will be able to not look back.

I guess this is just one more sad history that narrates the results of what the current gaming industry is becoming, but let it be a reminder as to why we should be more critic than ever, and not to fall into customer complacency and medicority.

Hi, just to clear up any confusion, I am merely a player that volunteers to help in the community, so I have as much input in game changes as any other player.
My experience that I was referring to was simply that of playing on both EU and NA official servers since launch, from where I live in New Zealand.

oh, ty for the clarification, i tought you were a representative employee. have a great day.

Every server is being wiped for the new map, it is just that the NA PvE server will not be used 'for the time being', and the option to play official PvE will remain with the other PvE server which from experience I know has very comparable connection stability and latency. What could it hurt to give it a try? 🙂

i dont know the details of you "experience" but dont you think games spend big ammounts of money in localised servers for a reason? also dont you think you are changing one of the fundations that lead a player to buy the game in the first place? dont you think this action will hurt your reputation even further (if that is even possible)?.

I was really into this game for while and played for probably around 900 hours.  After it seemed like the developers lost interest I stopped playing.  The game was stale and had too many unresolved issues.  I decided not to invest any more time in a game that seemed like it would never be finished.

But I have to admit, Atlas was my favorite among all of the multiplayer "survival" games I ever played.  Ark is ok, but I'm just not into dinosaurs.  Dark and Light was great.  It came from the same "mold" as Ark and Atlas but it was all but abandoned too.  One of the things I loved about Atlas was the vast open world.  No other survival game that I know of is even trying to replicate that.  (Last Oasis is trying, but their "world" is just a bunch of identical copies of three main maps.)  I think the big thing I loved about Atlas was the fact that there were lots of different things for players to do.  You could have fun building bases, building ships, taming animals, hunting treasure, or just adventuring on the high seas.  The huge world meant that there were tons of places to explore.

With a great deal of sadness I always wonder, "What happened to this game?"  It was so popular when it came out and the developers inexplicably abandoned it.  I know that some work is still ongoing, but I wish we would hear some real news.  Some small part of me hopes that they've been toiling away in secret on the game and one day, out of the blue a gigantic overhaul patch is going to come out, addressing most of the shortcomings of the game.

Until then I'll just keep hoping.

what happened? is quite evident isnt it? they took the money and ran *shrugs*

I wonder if we should start a fundraising campaign to buy the game.... Hand it over to some competent team that listens to the players and gets things done. I wonder how much the greedy bunch needs to let go atlas...

why buy it tho? no one has the monopoly on survival pirate themed games so they can just create one that is far superior instead of wasting money buying this wreckage of a game,  just let it die already and cross your fingers an hope another developer picks up on the idea

I agree. The game, needs some kind of way to contribute money, to the game itself, because the designers and programmers do not live from the air (as I know), and without that incoming money, there is no way to dedicate staff to make the improvements and energize the game. What could perhaps be done, through dlc's but I think it would be better, through cosmetic shopping.

And it might be useful, on the PVE server to activate a PVP mode that required extraordinary activation for a while, that enabled naval battles, for players who want, but without forcing those who don't want, maybe even so , the PVE and PVP populations could be joined without any of them resenting too much by giving the game new life.

Also, I'd like to see a new type of boat like a frigate, which was a bridge between the brig and the galleon. And of course, other sizes of larger sails, to avoid having to put 6 masts on depends on which boats.

you mean the money we already paid them??  the same money they spent developing ARK DLC instead? and the same money that is being redirected even further to fix that same ARK DLC? is there any limit to how diconnected to the reality of this game you are?

also people would have to be utterly stupid to buy a DLC of a game that is not only not finished but also not even being worked on

for everyone who want more information i found this on twitter:

A friend from eric seem's to defend him and give some interesting information:

"Atlas killed itself. It is not Erik's fault his entire dev team was stripped away from him and sent to work on another game.
It's all about HOW you ask. Dont approach them in a fit of rage. I spoke with one privately an hour or 2 ago, game is still being worked on, but they feel changes were made in the plans for the game, and they have been left in the dark with said changes just as we have been.
Wildcard pulls the strings for Grapeshot. They were behind on ARK development, and pull all the programmers out of Grapeshot help to fix it. Leaving Erik with no team to work on his game."

So for resume they are working on genesis since some month and should comeback later when they fix their new dlc on ARK

well well well, its seems that the shit i have been calling out for months was not wrong at all, "time will tell" they say and it sure did tell!! all this time withstanding personal attacks from the whiteknights of this game sure was worth it xDDD

The only question left is: will the current and former players have any dignity left and move on, or will they cling back to ATLAS if they ever decide to continue its development?? (i already know the answer, but guys.. do you?)

I spend already spend 1500 dollar on ships in star citizen, maybe Atlas should start selling custom ships to get some funding for new features for Atlas.

give them more scam ideas....for the love of god people rly lives in their own lil innocent worlds this days.

    11 hours ago, Grongash said:

Reporting it as fraud didnt work for games like DayZ, its not going to do anything for Atlas. Early Access itself is the problem, it needs a tighter rule-set. Not even "Star Citizen" is considered a fraud by now.

there is only one scam proof method, just pirate the game, if they keep their promises support them by buying the game when its finished, if not you didnt lose anything, modern problems require modern solutions.

What you on about mate ? im playing unofficial server first of all and ppl can do whatever they want if you dont want to play anymore cool for you. i want to finish all the boss fights and then i can say im done with the game or probably not, i believe you just one of them than goes around building pillars all over the islands and call that fun -.-'

at 3 minutes and 30 seconds is this the place guys thanks !

what surprises me the most is that the guy had the patience to deal with all the shit the game threw at him, like the hydra stuck in the rocks or the ballistas not reloading.. but the fact that it died because it drawn xDDDDDDDDDD it was so atlas like lol

Interesting. You clearly have more knowledge than me on firearms.

My point being that the 2 foot or more length of an arrows with a metal head or in Atlas sharp flint has more kinetic energy to drive into a target.

So an 18mm bullet vs 2 foot arrow must have variable results due to speed and target density. However, as i stated, my main point is the kinetic energy transfer from arrows vs bullets.

kinetic energy has nothing to do with the length of the projectile only with its mass and velocity

you cant expect much from devs that not even play their own game! V10 was the worst they made so far, ive seen so many guys quitting the game after V10, weapons are a totally bust now and useless, they don't worth the cost of skill points!

i think they did play it at some point, the guns nerf MIGHT have been caused by jath getting his ass handed to him xD

due to kinetic energy though, a bow will always do more damage than a gun. Especially against ball bearing bullets.

you have no fucking idea how to calculate the kinetic energy of a projectile do you?

    Hello all!

Instead of bashing the change, I decided to go and lay out the current state of the bows and firearms in general for myself. I like thinking and taking notes, so I am just going to go through this for myself while taking notes in here. As I do so for myself, you will get to reap the information I gather. So let's go to it.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Reload Timers------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Bow Reload Timers Test

Quick Draw shot = 1 sec

Full Draw shot = 3 sec

    Pistol Reload Timers Test

    NO RELOAD SPEED BONUSES

    Perfect Reload = 15 seconds

    Auto Reload =  19 seconds

Spam click (complete failure ) = 20  seconds

    _____________________________________________

    +30% Reload Speed

    image.png.f1f543f1d9fd024e80c937388765fe84.png

    Perfect Reload = 12 seconds

    Auto Reload = 16 seconds

Spam click (complete failure ) = 17  seconds

    ____________________________________________

    Carbine Reload Timers Test

    Perfect Reload = 15 seconds

    Auto Reload = 20 seconds

Spam click (complete failure ) = 21 seconds

    ____________________________________________

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DPS TESTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Test #1

    Object: Training Dummy

    Bow skills = 0

    All Gun Reload Skills.

Bow :  4 x shots at 35 dmg each Dummy DPS score of 28

Pistol: 1 x shots at 90 dmg each Dummy DPS score of 18

Carbine: 1 x shot at 160 dmg each Dummy DPS score of 32

I don't trust this meter since it has a flawed truncated calculation method based on 5 second rule.

    Test #2

Object:  lvl 7 Giraffe Field Test

    • Carbine shot = 136 Dmg
      • Extrapolated Perfect Reload DPS: 136/15 = 9.06
      • Extrapolated Auto Reload DPS: 136/20= 6.8
      • Extrapolated Spam Click Reload DPS: 136/21 = 6.48

    • Flintlock Shot No Buffs = 75 Dmg
      • Extrapolated Perfect Reload DPS: 75/15 = 5
      • Extrapolated Auto Reload DPS: 75/20= 3.95
      • Extrapolated Spam Click Reload DPS: 75/21 = 3.75

    • Flintlock Shot +30% Reload Buff = 75 Dmg
      • Extrapolated Perfect Reload DPS: 75/12 = 6.25
      • Extrapolated Auto Reload DPS: 75/16= 4.69
      • Extrapolated Spam Click Reload DPS: 75/17 = 4.41

    • Bow Shot No Buff = 34 Dmg
      • Extrapolated Quick  DPS: 34/1 = 34
      • Extrapolated Full Reload DPS: 34/3 = 11.33

In this controlled test we are able to see that the Bow wins even with 0 buffs. However, this example does not include a situation where multiple pistols are worn and the switch can be done within 2 seconds between each shot, but even in that specific case the damage of the pistols would go up to about 37.5 in which case the pistol would win the damage race.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SKILL POINT COST------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let us look however on the other side of the problem that is caused by this firearms nerf. The problem is the investment cost of Bow vs. Firearm

First cost is in Skill Points:

Bow requires these skills: Tools of Trade (1 point) > Archery (3 points) totaling 4 points for non-buffed damage explored above.

Flintlock requires these skills: Tools of Trade (1 point) > Archery (3 points)> Ballistic Studies (2 points) > Improved Ballistic Studies (4 Points) > Expert ballistic Studies (10 Points) > Sapper (6 points) > Firearms Unlock (4 Points) > Pistol Basics (2 points) a total of :

    1. 32 points for 0% reload buff weapon crafting; (32 total)
    2. +14 points for +30% reload buff; (46 total)
    3. +24 points for Carbine unlock; (70 total)

Bow once again wins in accessibility and point cost.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CRAFTING and MAINTENANCE COST------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second is the Crafting and Maintenance Costs:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Bow    (Can Be crafted anywhere!)

    • 60 fiber
    • 6 Hide
    • 22 Wood

    Bow Repair 1/2 resources:

    • 30 Fiber
    • 3 Hide
    • 11 Wood

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Flintlock  (Crafted ONLY at the Smithy!)

    • 16 Flint
    • 18 Hide
    • 36 Metal
    • 8 Oil
    • 22 Wood

    Flintlock Repair 1/2 resources:

    • 8 Flint
    • 9 Hide
    • 18 Metal
    • 4 Oil
    • 11 Wood

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carbine (Crafted ONLY at the Smithy!)

    • 65 Alloy
    • 3 Flint
    • 32 Hide
    • 20 Oil
    • 85 Wood

    Carbine Repair 1/2 cost:

    • 33 Alloy
    • 2 Flint
    • 16 Hide
    • 10 Oil
    • 43 Wood

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Clearly, yet again Bow wins!

Last but not least the per bullet cost as well as accessibility of resources in materials goes up exponentially when we compare Bow to Flintlock and Carbine making per shot cost yet again in favor of the bow.

Sadly, bows are currently the most powerful weapon and the cheapest weapon with ease of access in our hands, at least when it comes to culling the wildlife.

    Hope this helps.

    image.png

the nerf to guns was one of the first mistakes they did togheter with the nerf to gliding, since then the bow is the most versatile "end game" weapon choice wich makes the progression rather pointless since unlike guns the bow is one of the first weapons you have access to.

On 1/11/2019 at 2:14 PM, Elrood said:

Which means crap on PvE cause we practically ever fight unarmored stuff.
And this comparison didn't even touch fire arrows.

the pve side of atlas was just a bait, they never had the intention of focusing on it, wich is why all the changes applied to the pvp servers in regards to damage were carried over to the pve servers.

The D Legacy, I'm not sure if you've taken the time to read all the previous replies, so just incase you haven't: yes I am new here and there is a lot I don't know about the history of the games development or everything that long term players have been through. I'm not aware of any rules or restrictions stating that new players are not allowed to voice their opinions so I see no reason to keep my mouth shut. Isn't the general discussions section intended for discussions? Finally, if you have replied to a subject without taking the time to read the previous (as it would seem you have) then you yourself have no idea what you're talking about. But perhaps you were trying to help a new member to learn the way that forums work?

keeping your mouth shut is figurative speech, what i am trying to say is to first inform yourself and nurture your knowledge about the specifics of the game before telling people to stop being negative, simply because context matters, at least if you want your opinion to have to have certain level of credibility.

why would i reply to something without reading it? that makes no sense.
