I think we should wait to see what they do with the game, now that everyones cards are on the table. But if pve is ruined then I won't be participating. Maybe it's my age though, cos it seems to me most mmo's are going down the same road these days anyhow. Even my main game eso is getting stupidly grindy and money grabbing now.

thats the natural result of costumer's complacency and companies greed

I love this game. Like many of you I've been disappointed by poor leadership/management in the past . I have had this game since it first release having to quit early because my computer couldn't handle it.   But over time the game has been updated lots of things fixed, many remain to be fixed. We now have a fresh wipe, fresh new developers, and a new start to grow the game and make it better then it is today. I implore you to take the time to reach out to your friends , old players you played with, get new people to try the game out.   Lets make Season 4 awesome by promoting the game and giving the new developers the benefit of the doubt.     This game has so much potential and if we support it can be the game we are looking for it to become.

Rather then doing something Negative like boycotting the game which only reinforces conflict. Lets instead promote the game and get a whole new population to fill the smaller map and have fun times pirating against one another. Lets encourage the new developers, remember they aren't he old developers. Support them by getting new people to purchase the game and make sure they have the resources to make this game outstanding.  We can adapt, grow, evolve this game to be fantastic.

Yeah...mmm... not happening, supporting someone who has abandoned their own product, left 50k+ people hanging for more than a year and then used that money to develop another product, only to come here as if nothing happened would be the most lack of dignity act any of those 50k+ player could do, reputation is there for a reason, you ruin your reputation with scams, fraud-like behaviour, lies and opacity then you ruin your company, contrary of what some people think "the end does NOT justify the means".

And on top of that i have to put my time, effort and the resposibility of my suggeston to let my friends or other people use their money to easy the hardships (direct consequence of their fraun-like decision making) the game could be facing???...NAH

My friend, YOU NEED. TO UP. YOUR STANDARS.!!

Well i would say that would limit the game. Have you played WOW  lately? Entire servers go dead because of imbalance of factions.  I would be against that concept- the Company/alliance system creates multiple factions as it is.   You can play politics in this game fluidly , whereas factions would force people to choose a side and people will overwhelmingly join the bigger faction that is winning.

about WOW: then the problem is imbalance not the feature itself

about factions vs Companies: The "Megas" system already suffers from the situation you describe, people is forced to join megas unless they want to be wiped out, and megas instead of fighting eachother they are diplomatic, dont bother eachother and instead hunt solos down for fun.

they are implementing changes in the world map to encite more conflict but i doubt that will be enough, they would need to implement something that will limit a companies growth or strengh or even penalize them unless they fight and win over other companies, the factions approach would solve that since the conflict would come in a much more natural way, pirates could assault trade routes for their goods, that could earn them bounties wich will work partially as punishment since people would try to hunt them down but at the same time it would be as a recognition for their "pirate achivements", then some sort of "marines" faction could have the ability to hunt pirates to increase the safety of the trading routes and at the same time earn bouties while having  a ranked system based on the number of pirates defeated/captured, then a civilian faction unable to comand war ships but with the ability to craft and use trade ships with increased weight and storage capacity, they would pay taxes to the marines (or even craft warships to sell them to the marines) in exchange for the marines to defend their sea shores and islands.

a system in wich everybody would play a role: griefers could be pirates, tamers/farmers/builders/etc civilians and the rest marines.

but ofc is a player like me who has to come up with that because this devs have the creatvity of a snail.

I guess you don't know the politics of NA Kraken its the North Americans vs Chinese

that is not factions as defined in any standar game thats rivalry, when i say factions i am talking about sides created by the game in wich you play a fictional role, something along the lines of pirates vs marines or even the WOW Horde and Alliance factions

We live in a capitalist system everything is about making money.  The value is derived on how many hours you spent. I first asked the original poster and i'll ask you- How many hours have you spent on the game?  Divide $30 by the number of hours you spent.  I came up with less then 0.006$    I would say that is not a scam. That is good money for entertainment hours spent.

its clear than you and i use different standars when it comes to measuring "worth" you see the money and even try to justify every fraud as a natural consequence of a capitalist system, i see the quality of the prouct delivered, i see the moral principles of the company that is delivering the product, for me a game is a piece of art that i analyze to the very core because i am a gamer, not just a bored guy who plays games to kill time, the time i spend in a game is not the time i had fun with it, its the time it took me to fully get to know the game and form a proper opinion about each and every aspect of it, you are the tourist that pays to take a selfie in the eiffel tower i am the critic that writes a technical book about it.

Bro i have 500 hours on this game. whats that break down to 0.06 $   per hour i spent on this game.  I know some people with 4,000 hours.    Many people spent less then a penny per hour of money.  Give it a break. You got your moneys worth if you spent more then 30 hours in this game.  How much does 1 meal out cost?  Cut some slack!   If your from the military you should know the value of dollars.  If you have 35 years of experience gaming you should know what your time is worth and how much you spend on each game for the time you invest in it.  I call BS.

    What a crybaby

can you rly not see this is not about money? how can you be so complacent about a mediocre product that has been abandoned for literally more than a year and still have the face to see you parents (or whoever educated you) eye to eye without feeling shame??? imagine your kids being poorly eductated by a system that is just as intetionally inefficient as this game managing has been and the saying "well, the college was very affordable so is ok", for the love of god.

Boycott the product and lower your reviews.

If they dont get rid of the "pre release" get out of jail card theyre going to keeep fumbling around and refusing to take responsibility for a product thats been FULLY RELEASED for over a year.

    Period.

Theres a million things that could be done to build this into a multi billion dollar franchise but they wont. The changes dont even require much coding change

The games being intentionally tanked probably for a tax write off.

Ill take a gander at the new content but until they remove the hypocritical warning time investment is unjustifiable.

    Crooked as scoliosis

the game is already well known over the internet for how they scamed the 50k players that bought ATLAS, there were several posts about the free ARK download and i made sure every single one of them would know with full details what happened in ATLAS, turns out that when you refuse to download a popular game that is being given for free people becomes very curious as to why, and dont get me wrong i dont do it out of hate or vengefullness but we consumers have the right to know what we are buying and from who.

game developers nowadays have forgotten what "reputation" is for, they see electronic arts and believe their wet dreams of scaming people can come true regardless of their reputation, next thing we know is they go bankrupt and disappear *shrugs*

Unfortunately they are dreaming. The two biggest companies will control the trade routes and nobody will ever bother trying to take it from them. After that if the trade route “is not” forced content and the o it way to travel then people simply won’t use the trade routes.  If the trade routes “are” forced content then people will leave after they get tired of dealing with taxes or whatever ridiculous stuff they have to do to use the route.

i mean this is going to fail. With the numbers being at an all time low Just like the last wipe I don’t see a lot coming back and even for the ones that come back I don’t see them paying taxes for more than a month and being tired of it.

honestly i dont get what the point of mega companies is, instead of having several mid zised groups that can have their stuff and fight eachother from time to time they facilitate the creation of 2 at most 3 mega companies that will not bother eachother and focus only on wipping solo players, what is bound to happen is that megas will turn their eyes to the players in the outer/less profitable region where all the solo players will be located and they will harrass them and destroy them, because they will have peace with the other megas, hence will eventually get bored and stop playing, the entirety of this game have such deep contradictions that unless they redesign it from scratch they are gonna lose even more players.

Well check out the latest announcements about new team members and the new map coming.

I agree that this is an awesome game.  Way better than Ark. I'm working on bringing several new players over to it.  I just think it hasn't gotten enough marketing. They're also not charging enough for Atlas.  It's a steal at its current price for what you get.

    *facepalm*

are you by any chance american?

Why on earth would you want decay timers off? To me that makes no sense at all unless you are gone for long periods of time and if that is the case maybe solo is best for you just saying but, decay is there for a very good reason so the lag will not be as bad as it would with no decay and for others to have a chance at the places others have that aren't interested in playing the game anymore, there are a lot of those now though so I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

This is a videogame not a marriage, i should not lose the results of my time and effort only for quitting for a while, every single decent game understand something as simple as that (TERA, THE DIVISION, BDO, etc), also playing solo fixes nothing i would still have decay timers on my buildings/tames etc.

You wanna talk about lag??? yesterday i installed the game again cause i was bored, with nothing else than the island trees and my naked character i couldnt even do a 360 using the camera without stuttering, if they are unable to make a game perform properly in a 1500$ PC that can run BDO and THE DIVISION 2 on max settings with no problems is clearly evident they should not have released the game until that was fixed, but not only that, we are 18 months into early access!!

Unlike what it may seem evident most of the optimization process in a game is related to HOW the game process things and not with how many things need to be rendered, specially considering how powerfull video cards are nowadays and the graphic quality of this game.

I personally think its stupid. the map we have makes more sense and the way it is people can live more or less from all over the map. with this map the majority of players will be fighting for land while being concentrated all in one spot

Wich is exactly what the intended:

"This will reduce the amount of sailing between core islands, incite more conflict, and give more opportunity for Companies to capture and control water lanes for the upcoming Trade Route system"

Yeh but pvp is a bit like chess, you just need 2 sides that want to challenge each other and a board to play on. Pve play means having to add content dlc etc to keep the players from getting bored once they have bossed the game content. For pvp any rpg elements etc that you add are is just a bonus to the game. A pvp game is a lot easier for devs to upkeep, and easier = cheaper.

yes, everything you said is true, wich is why we see a tendency in videogame companies lately to go for competitive pvp games, i myself play some competitive pvp games but ATLAS is not one of them, most pvp competitive games has someything in common wich is that you barely lose anything when losing (aside from some ranking points) people wants to compete and destroy others but the moment they get destriyed they start crying over their loses (thats just the way humans are), as i see it ATLAS will never be able to become a popular pvp game simply because you risk too much for the sake of fun, who in their right mind would build a legendary brigg and then use it in batte only to end up losing all that extra effort? and all of that for the sake of fun alone? only people with lots of time and who dont mind taking loses, would do it. so we reach the same point i mentioned before: engagement, if you want people to engage in a combat while sustaining heavy loses (like in eve online) you need to put something on the table, something worth it, something ATLAS currently doesnt have, not in pvp nor in pve.

Hello guys, atlas is coming a lot new and new changes to the game.

I believe 50 % players are PVE players, this mode is not bad to ATLAS.

Developers need create news mechanics  combat in sea to PVE players.

Exemple: Quest in game, these missions when is accept, players will have your boats vulnerable to atacks in sea.

These are different challenges in the game, to PVE players.

The development ATLAS focus is more focused on PvP,  who likes play in PVE, won't like play in PVP.

Please, do not sacrifice this audience of players PVE.

There are many ways to make this mode even better than the PVP mode.

the main problem with PvE in this game is not only the lack of content but the lack of engagement, why would i feel engaged to work on a legendary brigg for lets say 100 hrs if it can  be sunk and gone forever anytime for any reason, why would i feel engaged to go treasure hunting if there is nothing intresting to use the gold for? why would i feel engaged to play a game when the content i aim for is locked behind groupal activities?

...and not sure what I think about an 11x11 grid with equator in the northwest...

the only thing they have changed in the map is the climate and plants/ores distribution, the fact that you have the equator in the northwest quadrant only means that quadrant will have equatorial-like weather/resources, if i was them i would have renamed those areas to avoid conceptual contradictions as equatorials are called that way due to their geographic location, but the most important part is that this + their statement about enciting conflict + their statement about "we want players traveling more" suggest we will no longer have a round world in wich you can access the other side of the world by simply going past the map border, if thats the case i rly hope the have reduced the size of each quadrant or given a boost to the boats speed since if things stay as they are (specially winds) this will become a very boring sailig simulator.

many things can be done, but this is now a game of jenga so changing one simple feature implies deeply considering the others, hence if they try another ARK copy pasta they will just fail as miserably as the last dev team did.

I have a solution. PvP can be great when it’s mixed with PVE evenly. You have PVE islands that can’t be raided while PVP islands can. Separate PVE and PvP ship design. One can attack and be damaged and the other is safe. It’s perfect. PVE could sell to PvP encouraging trade. PVE ships can be attacked if they are at PVP harbors. There. I solved it. Let’s play. Heck let’s just do factions. I would like to on be the peace loving bear hugging sponge bob type of pirate faction. The rest can play the scary rated M black sails pirate faction. They go around and are like “Argh! We name our animals after our privates and don’t use soap.” Whilst I am a more like, “Look dear, these flowers are really pretty on this hillside and oh look...a waterfall!” Yeah good times ahead, meanwhile I’ll paint the kitchen until you have my game ready.

i have always wondered why this game didnt have factions, that would solve sooooo many problems in one go that is amazing they never came up with that idea

If this new take on Atlas pans out and the new additions to the Dev team can be trusted, is there a chance we can make this game subscription base, so we can keep you folks focused on this game and not ditch and run for the next money grab? This game has soo much potential that it really need to be a main focus for you guys. And real gamers have no issues paying subscription if a game is worth it.

here we have an example of how people thinks more money means problems solved, how do you fix a person's incompetence with money? who would pay for a subscription to a game wich is barely even working?, the only way to fix this is with exactly what they did, you take the parts of the team that were not functioning properly, replace them and hope for the best.

well that was to be expected, i mean after the shitshow this game has become some consequences were in place, specially dollie who lacked the prudency, objectivity and professionalism needed to manage a community with posts that directly contradicted other post of her own team mates, wanted to misslead the community in critical posts (even when there was evidence proving her wrong) in benefit of the developer's team and finally reaching the point in wich she felt entitled to engage on direct confrontations with community members on the forums, i wish them both the best in life but i dont ever wanna play a game in wich they have a high responsability position within the developer's team.

thats the point, the people are being forced to do something they dont want to do, and if they do this with every map then its just a loose loose situation for pve players

when you say being forced to do something they dont want to can you clarify exactly what you mean? there are many things that fit that description in this game

Why would you join a MMO pirate game to PVE. that just makes no sense. Go singleplayer then.

why would you want to assert dominance over a bunch of pixels if at the end of the day when you go out in real life you will still feel the need to quench your inferiority complex?

Hi Folks. I was brought on recently to help build a new team working exclusively on Atlas! I know there's been a lull in development lately, and we've actually got several things that are in development that we are going to be rolling out over the next couple months. I want to address a few design topics about this map.

We wanted to get people moving around the world more. This map lays some of the groundwork for that, and aligns with some of the systems we're rolling out in the next couple months that we will have details on soon. What's shown here is the plant and weather biome layout, which dictates what type of plants an area contains. We've separated the mineral layer and the edges of those mineral biomes do not line up with the plant biomes. The areas in the middle of the map are densely populated with islands and are closest to the most diverse selections of plants and minerals. The outer areas of the map have less access to rich diversity of resources, and they also use the claim system. This is intentional. The outskirts are safer and less rewarding.

In the short term, we expect more conflict in the center of the map around the Golden Age Islands. We're also introducing new systems for Trading that we will dive into soon. This should provide opportunities for both cooperation and conflict. What's a pirate game without the opportunity to pillage trade routes? More on that in the weeks to come.

    Hello @Gortok and welcome.

I have a question, do you have any plans to rework/change the rules of the current claim system? or will they stay as they are?. one of the many reasons of controversy in this game was the fact that "pirates" were forced into a "feudal" territory system in wich everything they had could be lost at the whim of the "overlord" (island owner) wich for many was a conceptual contradiction with the standar idea of what a pirate life is about (freedom), hence i am curious if that will remain or will be reworked.

Also, I am what you would call a completionist and i absolutely detest the idea of losing progress simply for not accesing the game, decay timers were actually the main reason (among many others) for me to quit, and i will never comeback as long as they are present (in PVE), so could you clarify if they will stil exist in this new development approach?

And lastly for now, Winds, the first image that comes to mind when sailing in ATLAS is mentioned is that one time that i had to spend literally 1 hr of my time to sail across 2 regions due to wind directions being constantly against me, honestly thats an experience i am not willing to repeat, so i would like to know if there is any rework ideas on the matter.

so if you live on the edge of the map your gonna have to travel 5 hours just to get to the golden ages? the people who live closer to the golden ages are going to be at a great advantage with closer availability to better bps. this looks BAD

they clearly stated this is done to encite conflict, wich makes sense, if you are not gonna play a PVP server probably you shouldnt care.

I really hope you just take out some grids in current map. Im sure this sounds like a fix for some issues but I assure you that it will create new ones and take away a feeling of actually sailing the world instead of just some random map some game designers throw at us haphazardly. As a pve player since launch  I wish you would just say if your not getting enough traffic on your pve servers to make it worth it because that would be the only reason I could see why you are taking a new direction. I feel basically you want to limit the money your spending on the official servers and run us to community servers. Most of us that choose official have multiple reasons but id say the biggest for me is the thought that if I log in every 7ish days(tame timer diffen't than structure timer) I would have a persistent game world to come back to. Give us some stability a lot of things in this game require possibly hundreds of hours to do  which is fine if you believe it will still be there tomorrow. Last note seriously take out some grids in a square around middle and put new age ruins through out the middle of the entire grid all will be happier.

indeed, one of the critical mistakes done with this game since start was the lack of value given to the player's time investment, yet as i read how they have decided to set up the new map i find evident that (at least in PVP) bases getting completely and utterly destroyed will still be a thing (wich i dont mind) i just hope we PVErs can finally get rid of the "decay timers" since i made an oath with myself that i wouldnt be playing this game for as long as decay timers exist.

I've always been PVE, even on Ark and it always irked me when new things were added and important mechanics changed that hurt PVE for the sake of PVP balance (flyer nerf). The same with Atlas. Please Wild Card/Grapeshot, give some love and attention to your loyal PVE fans. Thank you.

i couldnt agree more, the moment i stoped having fun in this game was when they nerfed the guns's PVE damage to "balance PVP" and when they nerfed the glider for PVP reasons (again), i can hardly imagine the game in its current state being able to afford losing its PVE players.
