when I log into atlas now I see a section that says cats, sailskins, and console on the screen. guess its coming sooner than end of year. but my question is do yall think the game will be crossplay? because only a handful of people play on pc and xbox will surely bring in thousands of new players. answer from a dev would be great.

you know few hrs ago today i was wondering "if they have the game in such a shamefull state, what the heck do they do at the office" answer: preparing the xbox version to scam even more people because fuck the people who already paid for the game.

  2. Are there any plans to make sailing in PvE fun? (or at least less boring)

Are there any plans to allow solo players have fun? (like unlocking groupal content like the submarine for solo players)

Are there any plans to remove decay?

Are there any plans to make the game progression meaningfull?

Are there any plans to make SotD grind worth it?

Are there any plans to rework the skill tree?

Are there any plans to make guns better than bow/crossbow? (as logic indicates it should be)

Are there any plans to allow pirates to be free entities instead of feudal lord slaves?

game breaking is why islands are a plenty these days on EU server I am close to saying fk it and deleting this bs off my machine

cant blame you i was planning to play atlas today for a change so i went and tried to tame an olfend, after what felt like an eternity of taming at 98% a vulture appeared and killed it,  i was like..mmm... ok...fuck this, so i was heading back to my base to do something different and my bear got stuck in the terrain so i had to waste another eternity building a structure that would pierce trough the mesh in the right location to get it unstuck, after freeing my bear i decided the island hated me today (joke ofc) and therefore i should go somewhere else so i went to tame a elephan after all the preparations and the trip when i started taming it it simply wouldnt eat, i got the message "press E to feed.." but E did nothing at all, tried on a different elephant and the same happened, so after wasting 3 hrs of my life to acomplish literally nothing i decided to simply go back to play BDO

Yeah WoW is hands down the best mmo that was ever made. Like nobody is even a close second.

but just look at what is going on so far. There are already a lot of tames and there is already a lot of survival, which is the two things I said they are good at. People might have said that about blizzard but they actually made an mmo.

in order for atlas to be a real mmo they would have to pretty much delete the whole game and start from scratch. I don’t see that happening though, even though that would be good. I just don’t see it it being an mmo. This is a pirate survival game where you can tames animals and once again that is fine, but that is what it is.

indeed, most of the core mechanics are just poorly designed, they have put effort in the game content but not brain, a MMO needs to appeal to a great vaiety of people to be successful yet they are focusing in a single type of players and even in that regard they are failing, sadly.

Well I could be wrong, but isn't 1600 hours  roughly 6-7 hours everyday, if you are playing the game that much how could you not see lots of the problems in it? I think reality and expectations are always going to cause disappointment for people, because things are never literally as advertised.I used to play pc games on win 95 and it was horrendous, every game constantly froze or crashed or had floating buildings etc, and guess what? i'ts never been any different, not ever. even early console games were blighted with problems that devs never sorted. The only time I played pc games that didn't crash was on the commodore 64 and the amiga and they took 40 mins to load from tape, and sometimes the tape stuck and you had to start again.new games always have problems that annoy players, some games have been around years and still haven't sorted out major issues. I'd say to anyone who plays a pc game for 6 hours or more everyday to break the cycle and every now and then do something else like learn an instrument or something.Playing that much is not healthy at all. As for Atlas I really like the game a lot, and I played ark too but didn't like the toxic player base. I think the game is getting better,  and i've been hit by all the major issues, lost my ships for no reason, then after update couldn't log into game at all and have now lost everything in pve, but guess what? it's a game, poo happens. So for now I'm playing sp until things get sorted, it's not ideal cos I want to be on Pve but for some reason it won't run, but it's ok cos I do other things away from Atlas .Just give the game time it is improving a lot and I'm sure will continue to do so. Just out of interest though, how many people who constantly hate on Atlas on this forum are still playing ark?

well each person sees the game developing from a diferent perspective, some play more casually than others, some are more conformist than others etc so you cannot to group up people into 2 groups of lovers and haters, is not as simple as that, some people love the concept but feel they have been decieved, some dont rly love or hate it but have big knowledge about playing videogames and simply cant understand why developers are taking the decisions they are taking, some other people just want to hate on everything and some others wouldnt complain even if they got slaped in the face,  you can even find players in between 2 of those 4 groups so its not that simple. in any case what matter are facts and the fact is that ATLAS right now is a sitting duck, it sold 55k units of "an idea" if right now other company decided to release a game with similar thematic properly it could prove to be a critical hit to atlas, wich is neither good or bad is just something that could happen, actually BDO plans to release this summer a big expansion + rework for its oceanic content in wich features like building your ship and maning the cannons with NPCs will be possible, so i am not in a hurry at all but considering we are 8 months into EA and several of the core mechanics feel like they could change at any minute it doesnt portrait a promising future if you ask me.

I think they went way overboard because of all the spam complaints and in the end couldn't see the forest for the trees.  At least they walked back the landlord wipe.

Seriously, all that's needed is to set a good goal for what you want to achieve and then code to that.

    1. You want to remove junk from players who are no longer playing the game.  2. You also want to remove junk put there purposely to annoy other players.  3. You want to protect legitimate stuff belonging to players who currently play the game, especially on land that they own.  The first and last one are easy.  The middle one is a bit tougher, but so far it looks like all the rules and timers are being set according to that middle goal, which makes no sense.

How much time can a player stay away and still be considered playing the game?   Let's say two weeks.

Buildings, tames, ships anchored ..anything at all that you own...if it's on a claim owned by your company stays there until your claim expires.  Claims expire 2 weeks after the flag runs out of money.  This handles #3.

If a player does not render their possessions in 2 weeks, everything they own that is not on land claimed by their company decays and/or becomes claimable.  This keep people from having beds and taming pens they've used once and never again from persisting in the world.  It also gets rid of junk from players who have quit.  This handles #1

The middle one is difficult because the answers change based on whether the servers are full or lightly loaded and whether everyone has a reasonable chance to claim land.  But you can't rewrite the rules for all the regular ownership and abandonment issues in #1 and #3 just to solve this, which is what it seems like they're doing.  Why should some active player who has claimed land and built on it have to run around the claim jumping on and off boats and tames, making guesses about unspecified actions at some unspecified intervals just so their stuff doesn't disappear?

isnt it suspicious that a game that was supposedly hoping to host 45k players data is so desperate to reduce stored data as to literally destroy player's data after only 2 weeks when the current population barely reaches 2.9k on average?

Reason I played this game was to interact and have fun with other players. I think too many have moved on and are not coming back. I struggle to login myself. Sailed some gold to one of our outposts, passed through 6 zones, and counted 5 people total besides myself. We have moved passed ghost ships to ghostly server populations. According to steam charts both PVE servers combined barely make it to 1000 players a day.

Really sad that such an expansive beautiful game is dead now.

    Was fun while it lasted.

Black Desert Online plans to release a big oceanic content rework/expansion in wich you will be able to build ships with loads of cannons and man them up (just as here) while BDO in general has very bad reputation for its p2w elements and heavy monetization the game is stable, pretty, and huge as fuck, i have sunk 5k hrs on it and i am not even at end game, its oceanic content was kinda lacking up until now, but it wil be revamped and greatly expanded this summer, so if they dont fuck up it could be a pretty decent (maybe even better) alternative to atlas, not the same thematic but hopefully fun.

The game is what you make of it. Im ok with starting over, i did it with every ark dlc. I have always been a progressive player, if i don't set goals and have something to work towards i know i will soon get bored of the game. Yes exploring can be boring but you can also find some pretty cool things. I found an island with literally thousands of metal and coal nodes 2 squares from me. This is something you cannot see on the wiki, you can see what's there but not how much. Exploring just for discoveries can get really boring without setting side missions so set up a few little hubs you can farm at. Say hi to some people and network a little. This game is all about knowledge you can complete all endgame with primitive gear with the right strategies and right people.

Pre wipe i had 600 hrs of exploration and an excell with 25 grids worth of resources fully mapped by myself, yet once you know you surroundings (lets say4 grids around you in all directions) most of the exploration loses meaning simply due to the fact that going for a mythical ship (as an example) in a game that :

    a) can wipe at any given time

    b) can crash mid battle vs a SotD galleon

    c) can simply blow your ship up (decay system) if you decide to take a break from the game

Is totally not worth it, i am a PvE solo player and as such social interactions are irrelevant for me, i like seeing people around doing their own lifes cause it can get funny sometimes but socializing is not something i look forward in games, rather as you said i prefer to set my own goals and go after them, thats why i complain so much about the current state of the game, in my current set of circumstances content hidden behind groupal activities feels like a big bother that forces me to socialize when what i really want is to achieve my goals, it demoralizes me due to long term goals (such as the mythical ship) being very high time consuming investments with unpredictable high risk situations and low real profit locked behind groupal content (unless you can efficiently farm mythos alone wich i doubt).

Then you consider other potential goals and you find yourself in a similar situation, lets say that instead of going after a mythical ship you decide to invest your time into growing your skill tree, after not long you will realise that once you have some key skills unlocked the rest are simply filers and considering the fact that exploration (while rewarding in the early stages as a mean to know the location of important resources) is on itself slow, boring and tedious, getting more levels to get more skill points to unlock those not rly usefull skills is (to say it softly) not rewarding

Wich brings me to the 3rd point, even if i decided to deal with all of that for the sake of killing time (wich is not the case but lets assume it is) those goals take up a considerable ammount of time and effort, wich is perfectly fine, but you eventually reach the point where you need a break from the game (wich is normal, and happens in every game) yet you are pressured by the game to not to take as much time off the game as you would like because it would be a shame if the decay system would blow up that mythical ship you got there.

I dont like easy things, and i like to set my own goals and work to achive them but the way i enjoy videogames clashes frontally with the game's current design

well might as well keep it going 😛 got no more content to get through unless i want to start breeding, don't have enough time for that.

who does lol we are gonna we a wipe anyways, if not for the platforms crossover we will when the game gets officially released, so isnt it kinda pointless to go farther than the very minimum necesary to play the game, i had to learn this the hard way, with the last wipe i lost 600 hrs of exploration (and exploration is not precisely fun to be honest)

Does the forum have issues with bahavior like the discord? Below is on statement of many of not only disregard for rules but attacking a parent that cares enough to say something. Meanwhile this Bunny moderator(who before I realized there was a color code did not seem to be a moderator) sits there and disregards use of language such as words like FUCK. Guess it is okay to use the word here if Discord allows for it?

    MrJoeBarbarianToday at 8:01 AM

@TiggerToo Regards to 1.1 You didn't treat the bunny (a mod) with respect. You called them out openly instead of going the right route to report your insecurities. 1.2 the word FUCK is not Harassment, abuse, hate speech or any kind of discriminatory speed. However your personal attack on bunny was. 1.8. You are telling people here you will get them banned and telling them to follow the rules. You are either the dumbest parent to have ever posted here or you are a failed attempt at a troll.

This thread is not about the moderator. This thread is about the behavior of people and how our children should not have to be exposed to over use of such language. Then to have my parental skills attacked because this kid does not agree. My husband passed this off to me as he headed out the door to work. He has 9am court and lawyers can not be late.

Before moderators take action on this yes it is my kids account. I am not going through the headache of creating one. Devloper/Community Manager needs to be aware of some things though. I do not think they want this on Facebook and Twitter where more concerned parents may see it and wonder. Seems this game already is unpopular.

no surprise here i got perma banned from the discord server for saying "Dick" funny enough after getting banned a friend of mine searched for the word dick in the atlas discord only to find more than 2 000 mentions of it, at that moment i realised it wasnt about the word i said, rather about the fact that the person i said such a word to and the moderator where friends, that was the last straw for me and i proceeded to uninstall the game and move on.

I was just sayin we don't have the caves and such. So in the game hideouts/caves are replaced with structures to build. Could they have added caves to do this sure they could of but being a game where everyone is sailing around it wouldn't work that great in my opinion. Sure in the real world you wouldn't have 40,000 people and thousands of thousands of ships doing what one does in the game so sure it was fine then. Just in the game not so much. Just sayin the way I look at it is the bases you build is like having that hideout/cave to store all that loot. So by being a game and doing that way of course you goin to either fight or tax if you found and took over the island first. Should one person/group have control over some of the bigger islands no I think that is bad but the smaller islands I don't see the problem. But just my opinion not saying I'm right and you are wrong. Just sayin is all.

Also to add let's say I don't want to be a pirate but still have an island. If I got to the island first and wanted to start a settlement on that island. I would be taxing as well. Nobody lives on any land for free. But with that said I do play a lot of RP so my views do tend to be different then others.

of course you goin to either fight or tax if you found and took over the island first

lawless is the perfect example showing that there is no need to force people to tax or own land, you could just plant a personal and unique flag with a limited space around it to be your base, and you mostly need nothing else, the rest should be about battling in the sea imo

Should one person/group have control over some of the bigger islands no I think that is bad but the smaller islands I don't see the problem. But just my opinion not saying I'm right and you are wrong. Just sayin is all.

dont worry we are just sharing opinions 😉 and yeah i totally agree that megas should not have been a thing, at least not from the beggining, most of them avoided clashing against eachother and focused on wiping smaller companies over and over specially if they refused to pay for protection

Yeah they are monkeying around with a lot of stuff, blending traditional pirate notions with fantasy themes, which, hey I commend them for trying something out of the box. It’s just not going over well. The impression one garners from the boards since day one is that many people aren’t crazy about throwing all the fantasy stuff in with the pirate theme, and many think there is too much emphasis on land based aspects (tames, building etc). There might be legitimate design reasons to focus on the land stuff early, heck I think the game’s biggest issue right now is finding a land claim system that works and makes sense, but it’s not creating a positive impression on your playerbase.

You keep going back to a core idea that many of their design elements are illogical, like torpedoes, and I think that’s definitely one of the places where Atlas is rubbing people the wrong way. There are too many things that fly in the face of people’s expectations about this game, and I think they have the cumulative effect of turning people off.

to be honest i love the idea of torpedos, yet the fact that is fired from a boat is ...well ...lets just call it weird, what rlly kills me about ATLAS are 2 things, the decay system and the lack of a meaningfull progression. hopefully they do something about that soon because in this summer patch in BDO we are getting new boats with several cannons per side and the ability to man the cannons with NPCs just as in ATLAS, if they do it properly it could mean 1 less reason to play ATLAS (for me)

This statement is based on a popular romanticized notion of pirates, but in fact there is ample historical precedent for pirate settlements, fortresses and even beyond this more sophisticated political and military operations besides just plundering merchant shipping. Familiar with the US Marine Corps Hymn? When marines sing

From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of tripoli

They are referencing when President Thomas Jefferson dispatched marines in a war against Barbary pirates based in Tripoli which had been capturing and ransoming US sailors in large scale sophisticated operations from fortified bases. You don’t put lyrics in your battle hymn that reference just seizing a harbor.

On Tortuga Jean de Vasseur, a buccaneer who had once worked as a military engineer built Fort de Rocher, a 24 gun castle, to protect the pirate stronghold from attack.

Ladies, want a good historical female pirate name? Grace O Malley commanded over 20 vessels and in 1574 led a successful counterattack that forced government forces from Galway that had been besieging her castle into a retreat. Her operation controlled Clew Bay in Ireland and terrorized that nations coastal areas for years. Not just a swashbuckling combat leader O Malley met queen Elizabeth I in person in 1593, successfully negotiating her son’s release and return of her ships from the crown.

During the golden age of piracy Port Royal was effectively a pirate town. Look up St Mary’s island off Madagascar, New Providence and Barataria Bay, all of them were pirate settlements that lasted for years if not generations.

The point is that as with many things, the historical reality of piracy has been abridged, modified and selectively edited by popular culture in order to present a highly romanticized notion of what pirates were. Now personally I agree that Atlas should focus more on its seafaring aspects because romanticized or not, this what players are mostly looking for when they buy a game advertised as pirate fantasy themed. I just wanted to set the record straight as to historical reality vs pop culture mythology. There is a historical precedent for many of these aspects of Atlas’s gameplay, the problem is they loom larger in the player experience than they probably should, given what people tend to be expecting.

yeah i know about it, yet if we are to play a virtual game in wich most people desires that romantic side of the history of pirates, why not? right? (actually thats what the sold us) i mean if people want to have fun and they do so embracing that side of history, fine by me! hell if the game was done properly we could even have both sides of history and have even more people having fun,  i am open to mostly anything that makes sense and its fun.

Please explain to me why it doesn't make sense? It is a game it can only do so much not everything can be 100% real life stuff. So to balance some of the things that the game can't do they have to add this or that. Think of the base you build being part of your hideout/cave. Not everyone and their brother was a pirate either but on the game everyone is a pirate. I mean so much more the point is it is a game not real life. So please being a game what does not make sense about it?

Edit: I mean because everyone is a pirate you don't have settlements or the navy/British army whatever it was called. Being a pirate if you had your hideout/cave/island to store your treasure or whatever you really think if it was another set of pirates they wouldn't fight for that spot/location? I mean if a settlement or something came along they would pick up and move. But other pirates they not just goin to say oh here have this for free. Smh

Please explain to me why it doesn't make sense?

    i already did tho

It is a game it can only do so much not everything can be 100% real life stuff.

you can make something unrealistic but coherent, there is no need to copy reality but if the features you put ingame are contradictory then i wont make sense

Not everyone and their brother was a pirate either but on the game everyone is a pirate.

exactly, not everyone wants to be a pirate, yet we are all forced to, some people just want to tame shit and sell them, some people wants to fend off attacks while others like to be the attackers, there are roles for everyone yet the game forces everyone into 1 single role

Being a pirate if you had your hideout/cave/island to store your treasure or whatever you really think if it was another set of pirates they wouldn't fight for that spot/location?

ofc they would fight over a treasure, but would they build settlements? no, would they build fortresses? nope, they couldnt stablish themselfs anywhere other than caves and hidden places cause they were being constantly hunted down, but in exchange they had the freedom of not having any obligations with anyone, i am not saying the game should replicate that to the limits but at least if they sell a pirate game it has to make sense, atlas is in fact a co-op sailing simulator with a feudal lord economy system, not a pirate game.

  15. 33 minutes ago, crazywildfire said:

Then be a pirate and take my land away. I mean pirates had caves and hideouts. You don't think they shared caves and such with just anyone do you?

a pirates life was made on the sea, not under a feudal lord and neither stealing land from someone, because land either belonged to stablished empires, or was deserted, if anything they would pillage not well defended settlements, those settlements were not owned by other pirates, pirates didnt want settlements, they wanted freedom and used hideouts. the game in its current state forces players to call themselfs pirates while acting like part of a feudal system, wich is factually contradictory and makes no sense in my opinion.

Tell me how, functionally the claim system doesn't work and what is wrong with the PvE tax system.

Without any hyperbole either. I want cold, hard, cause and effect.

how about the fact that we are supposed to be pirates? not fucking slaves working our asses off to pay taxes for the higher ups to get richer, it goes absolutely against the essence of being a pirate.

You could wipe the official servers on a planned date and do a lot of advertising until then:
    Video Adds on Insta
    Add on YouTube
    ...

Could give the whole thing some fresh wind again. What do you mean?

The first setup is the really exciting one ... We only harvest the current beds, jump once on each boat so that it is not despawned and then we go offline again ....

So why not do some great advertising and set everything to 0 again? Maybe that'll bring growth again in terms of player numbers and especially playing time.

there is no point to it, even if they manage to fool new players into buying the game they would quit after few months when they realize the curent state of the game

    —————————————————————

we already know tek is here by the sub/torpedo. It is not only happening but it has happened. Too late now. But now it is time to improve on it.

sky fortress? Underwater bases? That isn’t even tek. The simple fact is that they need more variety.

P.s. please bring flier tames. Airships are cool but we need fliers to do covert operations right? And also a definite would be water tames. Like real ones. Even a dolphin or whale would be fine. Doesn’t even need to be a combat tame(until later). Just a transport tame.

    i said please.

i have a problem with this: that i dont have a beer 😞

Right okay, so you're a grinder.  But if all you're going to do is sail around the map once to get the discovery points and then never go back two things:

    A) Just doing that alone will take you a lot of time. A lot. It is not just a whistle while you work knock it out in a weekend sort of endeavor, and from the way you're talking it really sounds like that's something you just don't grasp here. It is also something that is very limited in other people's ability to do for you. There are certain things they can do to help, assuming they are willing to carry the load for you in exchange for what you're going to do for them, but no matter what it is still a major investment of time. As fast as you can when you'd rather not be traveling isn't likely to be very fast.

    B) I think you're going to be very disappointed once you realize just how much you will have to do of sailing and traveling, which sound like things you don't like, in order to do taming and breeding that as of this point, I strongly suspect you're going to find underwhelming compared to Ark.  Then again your last statement does make it sound like you're someone who has a high ability to adapt to something even if it isn't your most preferred thing because it lets you enjoy time with friends. There's nothing wrong with that at all.  I just think based on what you're saying you may find the game underwhelming when it comes to taming and breeding. On the bright side the building system at it's core is a little better than Ark's, they did refine that a bit. Right now the variety of pieces to build with is underwhelming, but that could change by the time you're able to play.

once you see the skill tree branches you realize that you dont need to have max level to have the most important branches unlocked, actually i stoped leveling at lvl 80 because there was no motivation to keep leveling up due to the unrewarding "time invested vs benefit" relation so i am pretty sure he wont need to invest lots of time in leveling to reach his goals.
