while you guys have my condolences for the lost time and effort you should have checked some youtube reviews about the game before buying it, 50% of the blame falls in your shoulders.

And there it is; peak pathetic. Such a big world out there yet you have so little going on that you’d rather stay for the toxic circle-jerking.

well but of course, i like knowledge, and this is a good oportunity to gather all kinds of data, from the psychological reaction of the different type of players exposed to the different stages of the evolution of this situation to the reaction of a studio who's greed fucked up the entire project rly bad and needs to make a comeback, have you ever wondered where is the limit of the complacency of the hoards of sheeps called players? or where is the limit of how much a company's greed and ego can blind them before they realise it and try to react? this is like a lab experiment but instead of watching rats i watch people, you would be surprised of the ammount of usefull information that can be extracted from a drama.

My question is if there are so many people pissed about the games and their performance, then why has no one stepped up to the plate. Granted, all players cannot fulfill these roles, nor do they have the experience and skills to do so, but surely there must be someone capable of helping the team out. There are countless fan made mods on the steam forums, and these projects are amazing, as most would agree. So why, and I ask why is no one interested in taking a shot at this. I'm sure that the team would be able to also deal with scheduling and employment time availability, so why doesn't anyone just ask?

To the bulk majority of you that have jobs or are not in the job market, then obviously this may not be possible for you, but out of the thousands of people that play this game, there should be a few responses.

Now let's talk about the Devs. YES THEY DO NOT RESPOND A LOT! Just look at who they are hiring though, they are not interested in a lot of PR or Programming employees, that's just not part of their agenda. AND YES, it should be, but it's not. So we as a community have the option to boycott the product. After years and YEARS of disappointments from ARK, it was clear from the beginning what was going to happen with this game, we all knew, and yet we decided to buy it with the desire to try something new. AND XBOX PLAYERS, YOU MOST OF ALL KNEW WHAT YOU WERE GOING INTO, so don't put down some B.S. (I'm an xbox player FYI and I have been following the game since day 1, so I KNEW what I was going into). In the end, we all bought the game, we knew the risk, but we still bought it.

So Yes, the Development team has issues, but they aren't worried a whole lot about these things, and we knew this from the start. So you all have the right to express your opinions and your frustration (I sure have), but know that you made a conscious decision to join this rag tag project 🙂 SO HAPPY SAILING!

    - Also have a great Thanksgiving to all of you who are celebrating and take some time to stop farming and enjoy some good food

" with the mission of bringing AAA quality to ambitious indie productions " OMG i am dying 😂

i couldnt possibly join a crew with so little gaming experience, their problems are not only code related rather they dont understand what the players want to the point where they literally chased away undecided players by implementing the decay system and the offline raiding, most of the players were tolerant to the technical difficulties but what killed their will to play was the incoherent gameplay desing, so if someone with thousand of played hrs in different gaming genres like myself were to join the team i would probably feel very frustrated from the very first day if the feedback i deliver was to be ignored, ignored as it has been the voice of the community trough this whole mess.

still there are some game mechanics that show promise, the naval combat itself is not bad, the way damage is displayed looks nice and fun, the accuracy with wich you can fire the cannons is great, the ability to customize the ship adds a lot to the gameplay experience, but if they are unable to even grasp what they are doing properly and what they are doing wrong, it wont matter how many people they hire.

the XBOX players complaining got exactly what they deserved, the state of the game was very well known by the time it was released to XBOX, if they didnt even bother checking review before buying they digged their own grave.

have a great time yourself with your family and beloved ones 🙂

So I've been a 5k + hour player in most of all the ARK genre games and honestly without a doubt this is the most deaf and mute studio I've ever seen.  I typically stay off forums as these days most posts are just troll but since there's time due to network outages with no explanation I figured fuck it why not make a post.

I love their games but their community involvement is absolute shit.  All the way back to the Early Ark days when we as testers in Beta were on a single Skype call, they've had problems being in touch with their community.

So FFS can you please take one minute to update your community when shit hits the fan on your networks / games.  How long does it take for an "EMPLOYEE" to type we are investigating the issue and then to get back to the community when there is updates.  We rarely have a clue what is going on with the game and most information is well after the fact.  I can't imagine how much more profitable your games would be if you took a minute to just engage the community that obviously loves your games but hate the way you treat them.  Wake up Wildcard / Grapeshot / Snail / whatever the hell you are calling yourselves this week.  Your community is trying to speak to you!

So feel free to vent your frustration here as well or throw your praises because it's highly doubtful the Dev's are listening so don't expect any type of response either way, but if it makes you feel better to rant or rave about the game, might as well do it because right now NA network is down...

my honest suggestion is to simply look for something else to play, almost everything has been said already in several posts in the last 4 months, this was a improvised cash grab from the beginning, we were not buying a game we were crowd founding, there was not a game to be bought, there was a half assed idea for a game (kinda like anthem but worse), they only have 1 year before release and the very core features of the game are disliked by most of the community, the current state of the game is the same as when you have a school project to do but you slack until the night before to do it, you will give it to the teacher tomorrow but you can only pray for a miracle.

if you like survivals try 7 days to die

if you like colony micro/macro managing try oxygen not included

if you like MMOs try black desert online (wich btw just got its ocean expansion part 1 released a month ago)

the only thing left is to wish to you luck and to the game a miracle.

LOL. That animation of a ship sinking cracks me up (as long as it isn't my ship sinking) 🙂

We have all been there, done that. Why the heck a shipyard can be placed in shallow water is beyond me as being a game mechanic that is allowed.

I now place and then quickly swim the length of the shipyard and pick it back up if I at all see any chance of it not being placed deep enough.

Would be nice if it would just not place or if there were some kind of indicators as to what depth is needed. As it is, you just have to make a guess and hope you are right.

the real question is why are we allowed to place a shipyard in a area where the ship cannot be released??? i cant blame any of the new players who went trough this honestly, if the shipyard blueprint goes from red to blue it should mean that is a perfectly valid position to place that shipyard and have no further issues

You guys can’t think far into the future can you?

The devs said this game will be in early access for at least 2 years. They dropped the roadmap in August and stated that they wouldn’t start it until after the Xbox launch in October.

That roadmap will see them through the remainder of early access. I just thought the community would be smart enough to work that out.

future? what future? ROFL they already burned half the time they themselfs set to release the game, they will release the game after the 2 years period but only in name because the game will still be in alpha quality. you say the community is not smart, but, what community? the remnants would be a more appropiate name, that said once the game hit rock bottom (hopefully soon) the only direction left will be up, but do they rly have what it takes? the new guy seems to have a much more clear vision of what the game should be but i can envision "difficulties", as of now the game development is more a tv drama than a game development so we will see (i will most likely never play it again but i wanna see how the drama ends xD)

population is dying cause your offline raiding lawless bobs, nobody is crazy enough to keep farming stuff to have a cannon bear destroy there stuff and have everything thrown on the ground. the new bobs should get raid timers like everyone else, and the timers should be based off how many people are in there tribe. 1-3 people 3 hour window, 3-6 5 hour window ect ect.

and who decides those rules? yes the developers, in the end it all boils down to not knowing what they are doing.

I've played atlas now for a year and you know what? I love it, however...

What really suprises me and annoys me about Atlas is that at its core, it's amazing, it's an amazing concept and is excuted in a way that allows memorable and fun player moments, which nearly every single game released to date misses, but what really purplexes me is how programmers can constantly mess up and write bugs for something extremely trival, I'm curious to question if Grapeshot QA actually exists. As somebody who has released multiple AAA titles, it confuses beyond the point of belief, it can't be, yet seems so plausible.

For example, trying to tame an Elephant. What really seems weird in this gif is that the client seems to think that feeding the Elephant is completely possible (it's highlighted and an option), yet when I press E nothing happens, I move a little closer and the Elephant hits me, so what is really happening here? My general thought is the client and the server are NOT aligned but I get hit at the correct points, so to my disbelief it is literally down to extremely poor client or server programming, how does a game that makes $100m allow this to happen? literally any kid on a computer science course could write this better and shows either a huge discompassionate attitude toward the games or just the inability to do it correctly, which is truely sad.

you can actually feed him from another side so my belief is that is something "hit box" related, the hit boxes in this game are terrible.

i agree that the "concept" of the game had a lot of potential specially considering there is a very small ammount of naval survival games out there, but the saying goes like this: "not even gunpowder burns in the hand of fools"

We are the QA.. lmao...  youd think after a year of playing and getting shit on by these devs you would know how this shit works by now.  They say theyre working on bug fixes and optimization right now in the road map... but honestly reading the patch notes.. i dont see shit. i dont even think theyre working on this game right now... i think they push out a turd on this game once in a while and then go right back to working on ark. theyve made more dlc packs for ark in the past year than theyve ever worked on this game.

population keeps dying out and nothing changes.

probably Atlas mobile comming soon 😂

How can you play for a year and not know this is the worst way to tame an elephant? Get a fucking bear and bola the elephant while sitting on it. You dont need pens, it makes them buggy. Also ure feeding it from the WRONG side.  I've never had any issues with taming an elephant and i tamed dozens since last christmas. Not even gonna talk about devs, this gif was frustrating enough, seeing how bad u are after a year of playing.

you completely missed the point. oh and an animal is fed from the mouth unless is atlas ofc in wich case you have to feer from behind the ear, so yeah its the wrong side, this game asks you to feed a elephant from the wrong side.

Not much chance of community engagement here, they prefer the social media platforms where any comments they make are buried under the dung-heap of comments 5 minutes afterwards.

It's been almost a month since anyone at grapeshot posted here on their "first point of contact" official forums.

ohhh they read it, believe me. but for once they are being "smart" they know they fucked up, they know the ship is sinking and rand out of excuses. but thats ok, i rather they say nothing and focus on refloating this than keep making up lies and excuses.

Your posts are childish.  If you read my history of posts, you will see that I have many criticisms of the game, but you pick out silly stuff to whine about.  Once again, a Giant Crab is a Giant Crab.  These two look nothing alike, other than the fact that they are giant crabs.  The Bear looks much more like the ARK bear, than this crab looking like the Karkinos.  Yes, I played ARK.  4,325 hours played, both PvE and PvP.  I am very familiar with ARK.  While some things are similar, like the Smithy, tools, etc...they all have different skins, and slightly different functions.  There are also enough differences that had this literally been a different company making it, and simply having bought the engine from Wildcard, nobody would be calling it a DLC.  There are huge differences.

do you realise every time you run out of arguments you go back to the crab thing? you have tried to used it as an argument like 3 times already when i have already said the crab is nothing but a small example, a piece of the big picture, and you even admitted it that situation "While some things are similar, like the Smithy, tools, etc...they all have different skins, and slightly different functions" once again, if it was all just about textures being recycled it would still be lame but could have a pass, but as i stated before is not only that, is every single game feature, all taken from ARK and changed just a tiny lil bit, wich is not only mediocre but also dishonest if you also consider how they advertised the game.

On 12/4/2019 at 12:37 PM, Captain Jack Shadow said:

Frankly, I don't give a crap if it was supposed to be a DLC, or a brand new game.

who said you should give a crap? who said you should not enjoy it? what does that have to do with the topic at hand?

On 12/4/2019 at 12:37 PM, Captain Jack Shadow said:

There are bigger problems, some that traveled here from ARK, like the building mechanics on official.

because they copy pasted the code, wich is one of the things i have been saying all this time. and ofc there are bigger problems but whats the point in me saying what others have already said? that would be redundant.

On 12/4/2019 at 12:37 PM, Captain Jack Shadow said:

No matter how many times you post, the fact that the Crab looks much different than the karkinos, isn't going to change.  This crab actually looks much better, and is much more colorful than the Karkinos, which looked dull, and ugly.  You have to wait for Holiday events to get a colorful Karkinos.  Here, you get them all day long, every day, every week, every month, all year long.

once again, the crab is only one of many arrows pointing in the direction of a lazy design and as i said if asset recycing was the only problem i wouldnt mind so much, but the whole game follows that same lazy design philosophy, i suggest you to stop looking at the arrow and start looking at the direction it points at.

  12. 14 hours ago, Jack Shandy said:

If you'd just started this post with "Atlas is too much like Ark for my taste", you could have avoided 4 pages of asset re-use arguments which you've now said you don't have a problem with.

I agree, Atlas is very much like Ark. I also bought this game on the assumption of Ark with pirates, so was not was not dissapointed when I got Ark with pirates.

well i mentioned in one of the answers that if atlas had been advertised as an ARK DLC i would have had no problem at all, wich implied that my problem with the asset recycling is mainly centered on how the game was missleadingly advertised. that being said i consider asset recycling to be an underisable practice, it might not kill a game but it certainly hits a heavy punch on it.

TERA did the same thing over and over and it has gone from like 12 servers to currently 2-3, with the difference that TERA actually had a very strog point: carefully designed and challenging dungeons, now they are preparing the release of Ascent: Infinite Real and surprise surprise they recycled several items/objects textures from TERA, is that what we want our games to be in the future? a cheap recycle of old games? certainly i dont, hence why i am critic about asset recycing and why i wont be touching A:IR not even with a 2 meters long stick.

  13. On 12/1/2019 at 9:23 AM, Captain Jack Shadow said:

That's just it...it's not a copy and paste.  What don't you understand about that?  It's like somebody making a game with the Unreal Engine, and putting a Ford Mustang in it.  Then making a new game where they take that Mustang and convert it into a Chevy Camaro.  Yes, both are cars.  Yes, both are sports cars.  Yes, both are American made cars.  Yet, they aren't the same.   There are a lot of differences between the two.  If you played both games, you would know that.

You said you play 7d2d.  You do know that it's made with the very dated Half Life 2 Engine, right?  Know how I know?  I recognize many of the assets, especially sounds, which are virtually unchanged from Half Life 2.  That doesn't seem to bother you very much.

the engine's associated assets might give a game a general feel of reminiscence as you mentioned but i can guarantee you that if enough creativity is put into something it can be completely different.

about half life 2, no, it doesnt bother me if the have similar assets because they are totaly different, if you get to play ARK you will quickly notice the problem i am referring about is way wider then just asset recycling, is a giantic copy paste that also includes collision mechanics, movement mechanics, sounds, taming mechanics, even the how you drink water in early game is exactly the same, hell they even have the exact same bugs. i am pretty sure that if you got the left overs of another person's food as your food in a restaurant you would complain, yet here people even defend it like beggars who simply cannot afford themselfs something better.

you are free to like and enjoy the game if you do so and i will never critizice you for that, but you gotta understand that the gaming industry is a sinking ship in wich companies feel entitled to do just about anything to grab some easy money, if we allow that to continue the only thing awaiting ahead of us is a heavy drop in games's quality and an exponential increase in its price.

This is comedy gold.  You cry about being insulted and humiliated in one post, and then admonishing somebody complaining about you doing it to them.   LOL

Humilliation is directly associated with ego, and my ego unlike other's is not fragile enough as to be hit in a forum. but i guess is quite convenient to decontextualyze something and twist its meaning to use it as a counterargument, to be honest i dont give 2 flying fucks about being insulted, yet using insults as an argument is not something i let slide simply because an insult is not an argument, is the expression of a repressed feeling of impotence (usually caused by lack or aguments/inteligence), therefore it lacks any usefull meaning or content. so if you were trying to provoke me with your false and twisted out of context accusation, well, at least try harder mate.

btw: i would suggest you to not confuse sarcasm with insults, those words are located in different places of the dictionary for a reason.

You used the crab as your example.  It was a horrible example.  The odd thing is that you ignored that the bear is practically identical to the bear in ARK, as is the monkey.  So what?  How different can the bear, or monkey be?  A bear is a bear.  But you used the crab.  Do yourself a favor and look at two side by side pictures of the ARK crab, and the Atlas crab.  Are there some similarities?  Sure.  They are both giant crabs.  And yet, they look totally different.  The ARK crab has 4 claws, though only two work.  The shapes and colors of the head, body and legs are all different.  The Atlas crab has abilities that the ARK crab does not.  The ARK crab does not jump as high as the Atlas Crab, for instance.  You tame it differently.  I mean, how different does it have to be?  It's still a giant crab, so it has to look like a giant crab.  Do yourself a favor and look at the two pictures side by side, before you keep embarrassing yourself.

i never intended a deep on analisis of the game assets, as i stated i was watching those youtubers not lookig for a point of comparison rather because they have lots of vids of 7 days to die wich i play a lot, the crab thing was a coincidental find.

i have played a lot of games, many of them has the same animals, but they have never been so similar to eachother as to say: "hey, that X animal is identical to the X animal on Y game", so what if one of them jump higher? it still is an asset copy paste.

i dont feel embarrassed at all, if anything... worried, worried that this is the generation that is running the world right now, customers who are satisfied with just about any bone they get thrown and companies that have fallen into mediocrity for the sake of increasing the profit margin, while the second is "expected" (not acceptable) the first is rather worrisome.

There are also much better games for PvP.  The movements of people are weird and glitchy.  It would be challenging to hit them with an assault rifle, let alone a single shot pistol, carbine, or boy and arrow.

This game is horrible for PvP because the mechanics make it such that many battles are decided by those mechanics, not player skill.

    i agree

Well the big difference between politics and video games is quite distinct, no one forces you to buy their video games. But you have barely any choice over your country's leadership, so yeh as far as i'm concerned the two are very different beasts. no one put a gun to your head and made you buy atlas I assume? and you're obviously not happy, I'm not sure if it's atlas or your life in general but you certainly need to get over it.

when did i ever said i was forced? and if you think about it dont politicians use missleading information to throw shit at their adversaries to gain votes? well videogame representatives advertise games in a missleading ways to increase the ammount of sold units, both use infrmation manipulation, thats why honesty is so important because we are normalising dishonesty to a point were people see it as a standar practice now, be it in politics or in videogames.

believe me i have gotten over it quite a while ago, i play 3 different games now all of them are a lot of fun, but moving on from corporates/politicians lying their way through everything is something very unwise in my opinion, you said it yourself we barely have any weight when it comes to changing something, but that doesnt mean you cannot at least try, what would be of life if we just accept everything as it is?
