On the western side of the western island in the freeport A10 is a rock just off the shore.
This rock is completely covered by about 50 elephants... and if you draw them off then 50 more spawn to fill the area.
Beyond that I believe the amount of resources you get from killing one is greatly increased. I didn't manage to do that, but I killed a fish when I was next to the island, looking at the insanity of Elephants, and when i harvested the fish with my axe I got over 200 skins and over 100 fish meat.
The rock is also in a convenient place that a ship could bombard it with canons...
It all seems to add up to a little bit of misbehaving.
