  1. There is no dangerous territory in an EA game. This just makes server maintenance and performance easy.

In two years, Grapeshot will have fixed and implemented many things, and then will rehype the launch. People will flock. Again.

    It's going to be fine.

  2. I appreciate that you enjoyed those aspects, but others, like myself disagree, and so do the devs.

The proposed changes by the devs need to be the way forward to promote mass people playing online. Especially spawning where ever you want.

It's important to not crowd the Freeport like on first launch day. So we need to be able to just start out on any sector right from the beginning.

The point is our community manager has labeled someone literally "shit", because of a difference of opinion, and inability to professionally response to angry players. It's pretty immature.

This basically means anyone Jat disagrees's with is being labeled "shit" and dismissed. Which is probably why the game is in such a shit state.

I see you are very biased.

Your arguments are fallacious from corrupted ethos, and logos.

    1) You are trying to leverage your experience as equal with all experience, thereby attempting to justify the claim that Jat's behavior is reasonably unprofessional; however, I can find at least one instance where your claim doesn't hold true: Jat intends to respond to a critic using one of the critic's own method of criticism; the profile picture. This gives credence to the possibility that it is not the case that Jat is behaving unprofessionally.

    2) If premise 1) is untrue, it remains impossible to prove that it is the case that there exists a single instance of Jat calling one player, "shit," implies for all cases of players Jat has also called, "shit."

The logic "if p then q, we have q, so then p," is incorrect, and the argument holds untrue.

  4. It's not "gimme gimme" it's "this isn't my job, don't make me work so hard to have fun. If you do insist I work so hard for some fun, I will just give my money to someone else who provides fun more easily. If you want my money, you will sell me what I want from you."

It's all about the money. I have it, they want it. My rules.

    You know what's weird?

There were a lot of messages in forum, ppl were saying: "you go clear the area and there wont be that much of SotD's around".

Yesterday I was on my hunting raid, I devastated for like 15-20 SotD's near northern border of my island. And guess what? Today I sail there and immediately saw 7 more SotD's doing their purposeless circles. So I guess an idea of "clearing the area" don't work, right? Or I did something wrong? Or it's a 24/7 job? Or maybe they spawn in one day per week (the night from Tuesday to Wednesday for example?)

And one more thing. The first I started hunt them, it was fun. I started to gather blueprints. I got all green and then blue ones... so now, I just don't understand why I wanna fight low lvl SotD? They will give me some BP's I'll throw away right at the moment I've got them. Tiny amount of gold (I have like 5k in my ship and 10k on the ground). Some ammunition to a guns no one can even build in my company... So right now It's just totally waste of time and cannonballs... (and time it took me to create those cannonballs).

And yet - most of them are those low lvl around. For me it's like I kill 20-30 green ones, 5-6 yellow and 1 red... So there is just 3-4 high lvl blueprints per 30 SotD's and not necessary those BPs will be useful (Like I've got yesterday purple Swivel with 117% of damage (from red SotD 28 lvl). Yet I already have blue Swivel with 137% damage... and I've got like 3-4 purple Puckles - the gun no one can even build...)

    Yup.

When ship level cap was raised, I made it my mission to clear my home sector of SODs. 37 SODs sunk and I called it quits. Circled the map a half hour later and the map was full again. Dozens of SODs. I couldn't quell the infestation.

That is a solution, but not a good one. it requires that you are lucky enough to stumble upon a blueprint. I don't see other people trying to come up with solutions to problems just complaints and excuses.

Blueprints are easy. I've got Brigs and schooners that are legendary and mythic quality on all parts, including stairs and ceiling tiles from flotsam farming.

You're right, it's not currently like that.  It shouldn't be as open as it currently is.  Especially with respec potions being a thing.

You shouldn't be able to do everything in the game unless you're on an unofficial server.  Shouldn't even need to point out the unofficial server part, but you apparently aren't aware of how flexible and customizeable unofficial servers can be.

No there isn't.  It's not even a grind as a solo player.  You can build a galleon in less than half a day.  Solo.

And a private server can also make the skill trees more restrictive, less restrictive, more skill points, blah blah blah.  So the changes being asked for here are, guess what, not relevant to private/unofficial servers.

It's important to remember that games set aside realism for fun and convenience. This needs to remain a game. Not a career.

I think you completely misread what I wrote. PVE does matter, it is all I will play in this game. I do dabble a bit in PvP, but just to remember why I don't play it 🙂

I completely agree with you, fast travel and beds should not be removed. There is a vocal minority of PvP players on officials that want it yanked. PvP players on unofficial servers don't care, they have admins and real rules to keep things in line. I'm saying that at this point, I would think about 90% of the players do not play on official servers, and they don't want to see beds and fast travel removed.

The reason this topic gets a bit hot, is that we know that this company has a poor history of separating the PvP game from the PvE game. They tend to change a feature to be exactly the same for both versions of the game. This is probably just easier for them to implement, but causes endless grief for the players and the community.

Aye, that's the M.O. for a lot of devs. Blizzard never implemented any PvP server specific changes or PvE server specific ones, and it made players on both sides suffer. Looks like we're gonna go through that here.

Wow. I said to hold the torch not grab the torch and burn the game down guys.

well the vacations was awesome but I am back now so I will he starting a series of threads to get things going again.

8 out of 10 people gone is inexcusable. I did some reading on here before I posted this. I also looked at the patch notes and I am very pleased that they made tames very valuable. I know some of the people here don’t want this to be ark and one person even made a thread called this isn’t ark. He was very mistaken.

time for a wake up call. This is ark. Saying atlas was an ark dlc wasn’t an insult even though people used it as that. What is means is that it was an ark dlc that got turned into a full game. Either way this is ark.

So for the people that don’t like tames? Oh well. There is going to be an even greater emphasis coming. Funny thing is I saw someone say the minority likes tames. That is a very stupid statement. Especially since once the tame patch came out we saw the first actual small spike in player numbers.

the best thing about atlas is the tames.

anyways, I will be discussing the stupid claim system, player base, the February update and a few other things is some threads. Time to kick it into gear.

Ark already exists. Atlas should not be Ark, even if it resembles it now, work needs to be put in to differentiate it.

We don't need animal tames to have fun doing what animal tames do. Using human NPCs for the same thing would be fine, minus a few cases where riding animals is good, like horses. But pirates don't have bronto-sized giraffes, or rhinos on their ships. It was always almost exclusively humans, and maybe a parrot or dog.

I'm part of top 10 company, but big companies got way to much unused land.

Win and deserve it is not an argument this thread is about..

If they add costs on flags which realy matters they should wipe, so every company can simply plan what flags they need and which they don't.

If you just release those flags you don't want to pay for, this will not bring players back to settle in this land.

Changing the claimsystem is just a good opportunity for a fresh start

I would lose too much if my character we're wiped. I have few land claims, and what materials I have gathered would be an awful chore to replace; then the discovery points and xp grind to level up? No thank you.

  10. I use my ships for transportation of anything more than myself, and I use beds to quickly warp to an outpost, so that I can use the gear I have there for harvesting and then get to work.

I sail the hauling ship later, but I definitely need both fast travel and sailing.

    2 hours ago, wildbill said:

If you have read the last ten threads all about removing fast travel, you would know it is all about defending bases and claims. Those PvP players that want it removed are sick of companies that have bases all over the place and also claims. Every time their claim or base is attacked, they fast travel in by bed (or so I've read in all these threads).

It is a total ruse that people say this is not star trek and we should not have teleporting. It is mostly the broken claim system that is pushing this change. Fix the claim system, leave beds alone.

And the next person to post this, please put in the title, FOR PVP ONLY (like the last thread created did).

If this is removed from PvE, it will honestly only affect a small portion of the player base, those on the official PvE servers. I would guess almost all unofficial servers would soon have a mod to add it back in. Really, at least 90% of the people playing Atlas do not want beds and fast travel removed.

Wrong. Where is your evidence regarding how many people are playing PvP vs PvE.

You can't say PvE doesn't matter either. It does. To a lot of people.

I hate to say this but any major change will probably require a full server wipe. We have no reason to be upset about this either as we all signed up/bought the game knowing this was in Alpha. It happened in ARK multiple times so I would expect it here.

    A fresh start would be...refreshing?

I could not handle the loss of all the rare materials I've acquired, and the loss of my ships that are all legendary or better on all ship parts.

I worked hard to gather it all, hunt the SODs, and build and paint the ships and sails.

I'm not some unambitious commoner who is complacent at plain common ships.

Also, all my discovery points, the xp grind to level up...

Having to do that all over again? No thanks.

I also only have 5 land claims down. Two in one area as a main base and three at outposts for rare materials gathering. I'm not greedy, and I wouldn't be hurt by a claim change unless it took away what little I have.

Best way is build a semi armoured brig with 12 cannons on each side and fight high level sotd. Because high level crew costs less gold to recruit and the ship drops more gold as well as good bps. We maxed out our new built brig in 3 hours by destroying approx 30 sotd and only lost 2 planks because armor takes all the damage.

Don't even do this, just put large cannons on the back and sail at the same speed in front of the SOD, kiting it the entire time while it's own shots fall short of your ship. Easy peasy. Never even take damage.

I've sunk dozens and dozens of level 54, 56, and 60 SODs this way. Never seen a 58 yet. Maybe they don't exist.

Same strat is used for whales, only trickier.

  13. For residue, you're gonna need a ship with a diving attachment, oil for the suit, and someone on board to yell for you to surface when an SOD shows up; you don't want your ship to sink or your attachment to pop while you're walking on the bottom of the ocean.

Once you can dive, start diving at random deep locations with a bow and a lantern on your hip. You'll find jellies.

I haven't tried this next trick but it's worth experimenting with:

Ocean predators are supposedly programmed to spawn near shipwrecks; sink a ship in the ocean and farm the jellies. I recommend a ramshackle sloop.
