I enjoy Atlas as well as Ark I started playing them both for the same reason each of them are a very niche game. I stopped playing Ark because with each update and each expansion the game started leaning to this space age content that ruined many aspects of the game. Lets face it nobody really wants to see a player zip passed you on a jet-pack shooting a laser weapon while you are deeply immersed in a prehistoric moment on a game. I always figured cartridge weapons in Ark was riding on the line of acceptance however it was easy enough to accept with thoughts of Jurassic park in the back of your mind.
With Atlas I approached it with some apprehension same creators same mistakes? For a while no it had seemed that Atlas was going to hold true to the pirate theme (Well besides the ships of the damned which should be the same type of ships we use only modified in ways to make them unique given what they are.) But as with many other gamer's I am able to accept certain things as being inevitable. With the announcement of the submarine I am starting to think to myself here we go again. Now with the new photos of the tames. The creature with the shell sporting a mowhawk idk the other looks like someone was carrying vials of dna containing Elephant, Camel and Impala specimens tripped on a misplaced extension cord and mixed all three specimens together before creating the test tube abomination that we see in the screenshots.
Many people in these forums say oh its early access be prepared for the game to change drastically and I agree with that loosely. If your calling card to the game is the logo you have created or the depiction in your cover art then you would be safe to assume that this is a pirate themed game. Ships with sails flintlock pistols blazing away sword fighting buccaneers sailing the seven seas looting and plundering the entire way should be the norm. Mythical creatures oh heck yeah Cyclops, Hydra, Mermaid's luring you to certain death with a sirens song now you have got my attention. Fighting ships that look like bad renderings from an early Rob Zombie production not so much. Fire elemental's and rock elemental's why are they even in this game seems to be a very lazy approach to a lack of villains in the cast so hey lets just copy and paste this guy from our other game and just to make it interesting lets take away any toolkit he could have to destroy these things and see what happens. The soldiers of the damned are all but laughable if your so stupid as to attack them without a tame you may kill one and damage a few more for them to only disappear below ground and regenerate for the next round providing that they don't bug and you don't get the treasure anyway.
PVP claim system rework that's nice how about addressing the core issues for PVE? Starting with the PVE claim system you cant take those back without conflict and conflict isnt allowed on PVE so what is the plan with that. If you don't have some sort of system in place for claiming then building in PVE will remain a joke. Removing alliances from PVE is not going to resolve any real issues only creates more for those that are uncertain about joining a company for fear that they will be kicked out and lose what they have done. (I have seen this happen in the chat many times.) So for PVE what are the options join a company and hope they are decent people which that is a rarity in this day and age or, stay in your own company and hope you can pick up randoms that will not create issues themselves. The only answer to those problems was sharing alliances with other companies. You get to keep your company and keep the things you have spent so long earning in the game while sharing the group experience and in many cases the only way to truly progress in the game is with a large group completing powerstone's defeating the kraken etc.
One thing to help with the company issues is to make things like ships tames and buildings owned by the player instead of the company. That will eliminate those little issues like players joining companies and losing the ships and tames they worked so hard to obtain.
Griefing is another serious unaddressed issue companies parking ships to block your ships in building structures just outside of your base area effectively blocking you from being able to build or utilize your own ships. Giving the Chinese players their own server would go a great distance towards resolving most of those issues. And before someone says utilize a reporting system how are you going to report someone named square square square square square from the square square square company.
But we have decided to add submarines to the game they will be unarmed vessels used in the exploration of shipwrecks.... Well maybe we will ad a harpoon or two. Hmmmmm can one imagine the possible ways this thing will be exploited already. Why the need for a submarine may I ask add the shipwrecks and buff the diving suit making it a viable option for sea exploration.
I can't help but feel there is one person on the dev team that wants to add laser beams and rockets to every project that person encounters. I have a cure for that hand that person a pc buy them a copy of No Man's Sky tell them to make that game better. Problem solved we could get back to what the player base actually wants which is simple. Ships that work properly crew that work properly tames that work properly and an environment that works properly.
You shouldn't have to go searching for tames when you log on because they teleported while you was offline. Your crew should not hop off the weapons unless you tell them to (Including those moments when your tames and or crew go floating off into god only knows where in the heavens while still in the mounted station position.) and there should be a way to easily assign crew to a station so you can hit a button wherever they are on the ship they can return to that station. When something is clearly out of range your crew shouldn't fire at it. Larders ammunition boxes and resource boxes should attach to the ship in the same way you shouldn't need multiples of each to cover your ship. Ballista spears need more speed and range you can fire a ballista alongside of a Galleon with six upgraded speed sails at 25% weight and they will go the same speed and they barely travel the length of a Galleon.
Ship parameters are way out of proportion one click into accommodations, survivability or crew should reward the same results no matter what ship one click = one crewman, 10% more survivability or one hour longer added to pay period weight added should depend on what ship it is. Starting weight on all ships needs to be buffed in general If you upgrade the planks on any of your ships you cant haul enough weight to keep them repaired due to natural decay and cyclone encounters which I have had an entire Galleon with journeyman planks front to back destroyed by two back to back cyclone storms in the same grid. (For those wanting to say carry resources in your box the entirety of my resources was 20000 wood 35000 thatch 35000 fiber 5000 metal 1000 hide and 1500 gold.) I had two players on my Galleon repairing during the first storm the second storm hit less than a minute later and destroyed all we had repaired. Ship plank hp compared to resources required to repair are in desperate need of reworking you pay the punishment in upgrading planks when you craft them you shouldn't need to be punished so harshly every time you take a little damage.
Bottom line fixing what is there is what is needed not adding more crap that don't work.

You have entered my brain, taken my thoughts and put them into words so much better then I could. I sure hope they will listen.

  2. My biggest fear, after seeing the new creatures, is that the same thing that happened to Ark is happening to Atlas.

The devs kept adding creatures to Ark that no one really asked for.  We ended up with way too many creatures and not enough bug fixes.  There are still bugs in Ark that have not been fixed for years.  They are now creating a new Ark play style that removes some of the creatures in Ark to make it more like it was in the beginning.

I love  the idea of new creatures but please do not add a lot of new content until you, at least, have figured out how we are supposed to play the game.  There is a ton of content in Atlas right now that does not work correctly. Please fix that before adding new things!

  3. I am so interested in this poll. I wonder what the devs think?

I have always wondered exactly what the numbers would reflect of PVP vs PVE in Ark. With as many private servers there are out there, I have always thought that many more players play pve than pvp.  The pvp people always assure me that is not the case but if you search for servers, it would reflect that pve is more popular.

Do devs embrace pvp more because it brings more money?  I have been curious about this for a very long time.

I know this poll is not a clear showing of how many people play each type but it sure is interesting.

  4. One thing I am very confused about. We had a person who only put points in Intelligence so that she could craft a mastercraft large speed sail from a blueprint. We gathered everything we needed but then found out that she also had to learn large sails to craft them.  We all thought anyone could craft anything from a blueprint.  Are we confused at how it works? You have to learn how to craft an item before you can use the blueprint?  Only people who have learned a certain skill can use the blueprints for that skill? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.

But this does reaffirm my point.  The game is much more frustrating than fun.

We can only hope that the devs are truly listening to us and hopefully changing the game so that we can have more fun with this game.  The frustration is real.

  5. Most of us in our company are level 60 to 65.  We are focusing on being able to build battle ships and getting ready to do the power stone islands but we are having trouble.  I know we will be able to do it, in the long run but I really do think we should be able to do it and have fun at the same time.  The frustration of it all is what makes the game not as fun as it could be.

  6. I love hearing stories where if someone needs something, you just ask in chat and that something appears but that does not help for the skills that someone cannot give you.  Right now I am not able to put any points in the music or dancing skills because I don't have the points to spare. I don't think that is fair to take away those fun attributes so that I can be the only one in my company that needs to be able to craft certain things. We all need to skill up our health and food attributes. We need to be able to defend ourselves. There are just too many things that we have to put points in and it limits us for any of the fun things.

Well, I guess if we decide to have a celebration party after destroying the Ghost Ship, we can all take a few moments, respec so that we all have dancing and music skills and party on! Hahaha!

It will be interesting to see the changes that are going to be made, that is for sure. I hope we will hear about the changes before they implement them but I guess we will just have to see them for ourselves when they drop the ptr.

  7. I am not saying to delete the respec button.  I am saying that things need to be so that we don't feel the need to respec every single time you need to do something different in the game.  I know the devs want us to have certain people be best at certain jobs but that is not fun for most.

All of us in our company want to be able to be amazing Captains of our Ships.  We also want to be able to tame and breed the high end creatures and be able to grow the better foods and be able to dance and play music.

I know it sounds like a great game that you have to rely on your fellow company members to help out with all the things but that does not mean it is the most fun game that I can play. In fact, it is becoming a game that is more frustrating than fun.

  8. So the way the game is set up, we just respec to get our character to do what we want at the time, and then respec again.  I really do not like this type of game play. How can we become vested in our character if it is just a temporary type thing we can change on a whim.  In our company, we are constantly respecing.  We have six fairly active members but there is always someone who can't do something because they have to put more points in this in order to do that.  I think I know what the developers are trying to do but it is simply not working.  Well, it may be working but it sure isn't fun.  It almost feels like we are cheating in order to play the game but I don't think it can be called cheating if it is how the devs want us to play.

Another problem is the vitamin/food thing.  Everyone in our company doesn't care anything about all the food stuff because they have all figured out that it is just easier to die and not mess with it.  What kind of game play is that?  I use my precious skill points to fill up the food and vitamin category but I still find it easier to just die than mess with trying to keep my vitamins up without over eating. Every time I go out and die on purpose, I lose what little bit of role play or immersion into the game that I have.

I think I read that the vitamins are going to be changing a bit with the new mega update so hopefully they will work better but why do devs want to create games that cause so much frustration? After playing Ark for years and now Atlas, I really do think that some devs just really like having a god like control, all the while, laughing through out their day, knowing how miserable they make people feel.  Is that really a thing?

  9. I don't think lawless is the answer.  We just need a nice little area to claim that no one else can build on and no one can build anywhere that they are not able to place a claim flag.

Each person is allowed one claim flag.  You can cap a Company at 15 to 20 flags.  No one can build ANYWHERE else.

This is what I wish they could implement in Ark. Gosh, it sure would solve all that pillaring that is going on over there.

  10. You are also speaking for me and my whole crew, UncleMike.  I didn't think to write on discord but I did write here on this forum.  I am wondering if they read this forum since they have so much to read on discord.  Maybe they don't have time to read everything that was written here.

I really did think they would listen to what we were saying. When you have a majority of people who are stating a like or dislike of something, you would think they would take notice.

Of what I saw here, the majority of the people do not like what they are planning for pve.  The pve building system is broken in Ark and they are going to be doing pretty much the same with the Atlas building system. When you keep doing the same thing over and over and keep getting the same bad result, doesn't that signify insanity?

I guess we will wait and see but I am having a hard time figuring out how any of this is going to work out for the best.

  11. I paint my ships with the watercourse green and brick. It looks pretty nice. I also like cerulian and gold trim.   I just wish we could use more of the paints since we have so many.
Those buildings are so pretty, George. It inspires me to keep trying to find good combos.
I really like the red roofs you showed.  Very nice. Thanks so much for sharing!

  12. After all the important stuff if figured out, I really hope they will fix the paints so we can paint our houses so they look nice.  I tried every color we have on our wooden walls and it looks like someone tried to draw all over them with chalk. None of them look nice at all. In ark, we could really change up the way our buildings looked so they all didn't look identical. We could make our bases our own.

I know this is not the most important thing to worry about but I do hope they will think about this while they are thinking about the game.

  13. PVE discussion

So if we put down one little claim flag, we own the entire island?  That makes no sense at all!

PVE people want a small piece of land to call their own. They just want to build in peace. PVE is player vs environment.  Let us battle against hurricanes and dangerous creatures but don't keep trying to pit us against each other and don't create a game that allows people to be the worst bullies they can be.

We need one claim flag per person. As you add another person to your company, add another claim flag. Put a limit cap for each company to 15 to 20 flags.  You could make several settlements with 20 flags.

Each claim flag should have a nice size radius.  The only people who can build in that radius are Company Members.  No one can build anywhere outside their flag radius.  People are going to be very selective how they use their flags so there will not be pillar/foundation spam everywhere.

I would give anything if they would implement this in Ark.  It might finally stop the pillaring bullies there.

  14. I would like for us to be able to have claim flags in PVE.  One flag per person would be great.  If you have a large company, you would have a lot of flags, a small company or single player doesn't need a ton of space. Placing a flag assures that you have some space to build without worrying about people building too close and people would not spam tons of pillars because you would only be allowed to build where you place your flag.

The base of the flag could be the auto-repair structure and you would have to keep it full of resources for anything built in the flag radius so that your structures would not decay.

They have still not fixed the pillar spam problems in Ark. Maybe they should think about implementing something like this in Ark. It would sure be better than what they have now.

  15. I really like the idea of the claim flags. I look forward to hearing how the repair structures are going to work.

What if we could have one claim flag per person with a nice size radius.  (the current radius seems plenty big)  The flag could be the resource structure and we would have to keep resources in the flag base to upkeep all structures within the radius?  That would give us a nice area to build where no one else could build.  If you have a huge Company, you would have a lot more flags to work with. If you have a few, you don't need as much space.

The pillar problems have never been solved in Ark. Maybe they should implement this idea in Ark.

  16. I just built a new Brigantine and took my NPC, Two Legged Alex from my Schooner to the Brig.  He was repairing the schooner perfectly but now my brig is not being repaired. I have everything set up just like on the schooner with resources in the resource box, he has a hammer and he is sweeping but every plank and gunport still need to be repaired.

I moved Alex to be nearer the resource box, since this ship is larger but he still is not repairing after several hours. I wonder what the difference is.
