Yes, all islands lawless please, no decay, no claim flags and no raid time windows amd war token crap = everyone happy

Meh, im curious to see how the war token crap works. I like it already a lot because it completely shafts the chinese raid times on NA PvP lol at least now if your gonna get raided, you'll be online for it, so the super cool bases you build can actually be defended and you have a chance of getting a ship out for ship pvp in defense of your place.

surely we won't even get a clarification if there might or might not be future wipes...i am bummed right now 😞

Oh i can say about its a 100% that there will be future wipes. The only time I think the game will stop wiping is when the game is finally released. That means the developers are happy with how the world currently is and it doesn't need anymore changes lol

I for one am grateful for the wipe!

Sure, it sucks!! But it’s needed.

The underlying game mechanics meant there was no other way to alter them without a wipe.

The current mechanics simply couldn’t accommodate both PVP and PVE communities. Do something for one, you hurt the other.

    Now they can separate them.

The game was already dying with no way to sort it. The wipe is their last ditch attempt to save it. It may work, it may not! But persevering with the previous system and its limitations was a guaranteed death sentence.

    Best way to put it

Although it's hard to give up my invested base, ships and tames after grinding hard as a solo on PVE, it was expected.

But tbh I somehow didn't expect them to also wipe character progress (leveling, powerstones beating the kraken etc), especially on PVE.

That's a bit too much for me and I'll probably give this game a rest for now.  Maybe try it again in the future to see how it developed. It was fun while it lasted!

I'm actually curious about how the PvE content will change. I don't think it'll change much this patch, but in the future, the path to getting to each powerstone could change drastically and in a unique way for each powerstone. So everything regarding power stones I believe will change in the future of the game as currently its kind of bland atm.

Founder's Packs and Kickstarters are both clearly labeled as such, and tell you that you are going to be part of an Alpha Test, or a Beta Test, and include the wipe schedule and all of the information is clearly laid out ahead of time.

Also, generally the Founder's pack for a game to get into the Alpha is way more expensive than the game's final price, not the other way around.

I've never purchased access to a game and then suddenly found out that they're actually in Alpha.  They have always said "You are buying access to an Alpha."

    EA is not automatically Alpha

EA is not automatically alpha, but EA is definitely not a released game obviously. People are treating Atlas as a released game and not as a game that is still in its development cycle, which it still is.

When I'm using Alpha and Beta to describe atlas, I use that because thats what I know. This is the disclaimer you get when buying EA games.

Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops.

Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

Again, Ark did not experience this on PvE servers at least. Not all games have wipes and Atlas is not an MMORPG which is the reference you're using. This is an online survival using a shared server space. Think of it like Ark which you were able to move between servers using the spires. Ark is the reference here, not an MMORPG.

I am comparing it to MMORPGs because people keep saying that MMOs don't wipe. In all honesty, I completely agree with you. I compare atlas to every other clone of the survival genre. But I don't play on PvE servers. If I had to guess the reason that PvE servers are wiping too is that something in the code of the current system would force the wipe anyways. I mean these are pretty big changes to how building will work on PvE since there are no claims in PvE when the changes are made. So the way that your buildings interact with surrounding buildings will probably change.

CBA to read the rest of the moaning I know is gonna come from the mega tribes over this but just wanna say I loved the ideas coming out of the live stream and am looking forward to getting on the beta server to help test things out.

GG Grapeshot - thx for listening.

From the peeps that I've talked to out of the major alliances, they are pretty excited about the wipe lol.

Maybe you're young. I was beta testing games 20 years ago. People have new ways of defining everything these days.

Didn't even need to be 20 years ago, I think most people were able to beta test at least one WoW expansion if they wanted to before Steam Early Access was even a thing. People played the shit outta the WoW Beta and knew very well that all the progress was gonna be gone upon launch day.

Atlas isn't a finished game, so that mean it can be considered in Beta or Alpha stages of development. Since it is very playable, I'd put it in early beta stages. Wipes are going to happen. I am shocked that people didn't think a wipe would be coming, like wtf dreamland are you guys on lol

If you honestly think they'll see any large numbers from this point on, I have some beachfront property in Nebraska to sell you. No one will want to play knowing what they worked on will be erased. It's already garnering no real numbers if you look at new purchases from Steam. Any gains will be small as they push to get a console release out at the same time they're at 30% of growth in same period as Ark. They know this.

People who played the beta for any MMORPG (WoW for example, because thats the only example that works) know that everything you work for in the beta testing knows it going to get wiped, but they still play anyways. What is the different here? Atlas isn't a finished game, its pretty much a beta test. How are you not expecting your shit to get wiped multiple times. BTW it will be wiped multiple times. So go ahead and get a document written up so you can copy and paste how bullshit the devs are.

I'll be quitting before or on wipe day.. so stupid to invest so much time and lose everything, you don't reset MMOs...

MMOs get reset all the time in the alpha and beta stages of the game. Early Access games = Alpha/Beta stages of game. If they weren't they'd be released games. This isn't a released game.

BS! You don't sell Alpha games. And real EA games are complete and ready for retail release. Real EA is the first mass server tests only weeks prior to full retail release.

    All that grinding for nothing!

What do you think Founders packs are and kickstarters are? You are buying to play an alpha test game. Early Access is just a streamlined formula. If this was 2003, I would and you said you don't sell Alpha games, I would completely agree. But selling "alpha games" has been a thing for what, 7-8 years now?

It just goes by different names. Pay $30 on kickstarter to get a digital copy and beta test access.

Pay $30 for an Founders Pack and get access to alpha AND beta included with a digital copy upon the games release.

and any EA Game that has released.

  10. The current system of raiding is bad. Just a cycle of offline raiding until someone is offline long enough to knock out all the bases. I'm down to give the new system a try at least. At the very least you can actually plan a defense instead of logging in and realize your main has been wiped and have to swap around to your auxiliary bases to drive off the enemy. I have never been raided online and I have a pretty cool base setup, but I never get to defend it with my friends because I always get offlined >_>

At the very least, the changes are worth trying IMO. LiF has the same system and let me tell you, that didn't slow the PvP down at ALL lol

Also, wipe has to happen. The wipe was coming anyways, sooner or later. Better to do it now, since it directly affects the way we place and manage claims. I can't imagine the chaos that would of ensued if they had done the changes without wiping. Holy fuck that absolute madness that would of been caused.

  11. I think the big reason for the war system changes stem from NA PvP official. Currently the games meta of PVP for that server is just a cycle of offline raiding. The chinese raid you when your offline, you log on when they about to break into one of your last bases and you drive them off, then you spend like 2 or 3 hours reclaiming/rebuilding and then you go offline raid them. Cycle repeats endlessly until someone just gets offline raided completely lol. I'm sure that EU PvP official is getting the shaft with this change because the timezone difference isn't as bad. NA PvP was terrible though.

  12. Why do people not understand Early Access and treat EA games like they are released games. You are buying a game that is in pretty much the in its late Alpha stage, early beta stage of a game. In every MMO, the game wipes several times for testing new things and changes. Like did you gets not believe that there would be a single wipe during Atlas' EA status? Are you fuckin kiddin me? I've been talking about the wipe to my guys before the game even released.

  13. I haven't really seen a lot of topics about the claim changes, but with that being said, the WIPE has to happen. These changes are fucking huge. And wiping the maps is for the best so that the Dev team can monitor everything and balance.

I'm looking forward to it honestly. For the first cycle of wipe, I'm surprised it lasted this long with the major issues the first two months had.

  14. If I recall, the last live stream provided "answers" and then they didn't go through with them anyways, right? So who knows what to believe from their streams. At least the previews will look cool, hey look more figure heads and armor cosmetics!

Server wipe is not not a punishment, though.  Providing a level playing field is not a punishment.  There's a huge change to claim system coming.  In order to provide the most fair playing field on PvE servers, a wipe is necessary.

Again, though, I don't think a PvP server wipe is necessary, even though it wouldn't really hurt.  I'm actually more inclined to be against a wipe for PvP servers just to enjoy the fighting for dominance that PvP servers naturally have.

Wiping PvP server also provides a level playing field for new players. A lot of the people I talk to aren't able to experience the game on official the way they want to. The last few people I've talked to is that they have to join an existing group to get land. If they do join an existing group they aren't learning how to play and are just bodies to fill a spot in a raid, defense, or whatnot. And sure for experienced players, that would be fun, but for new players its pretty much forcing them off the server since they don't really have a choice.

The pros out weigh the cons imo for wiping. If it does wipe for the first major update (keep in mind, its going to wipe eventually), developers are more easily able to monitor the changes to the game and balance those changes without causing huge uproar from the community (there will still be a roar, but shouldn't be too bad). They will also be able to fix any bugs that show up early with the new system in place, some bugs that could possibly be game breaking. Existing players, now that they have played the game, have the opportunity to do things different in some regards, but to balance the super scaling of a bigger group, the upkeep should keep them in check for the start. A wipe also invites old and new players to play on official again, thus creating a much larger pop for official. Only real con to wiping, imo, is that I'd lose my character.

If the server doesn't wipe, I feel like the Devs will have to be put on double time for the next few weeks, balancing the claim system and fixing any bugs that could affect the claims after the changes, all while having to deal with the community harassment from the blunder. I think the population will grow for sure, but the amount will be far less than if it had wiped. Probably the biggest pro for not wiping is keeping your character, which is what I care about. I've lost whole islands, very good bases and locations and probably a few hundred ships, but the only thing I really care about is my character lol. But losing it wouldn't make me stop playing, I'd still play because its fun.

  16. no, what drove the player base off was the hacking. a whole top 10 clan in NA pvp left because of that shit lol.

Lets put it this way Xenom, wipes are coming regardless. That is a fact lol the question is when. The only time official probably wont wipe will be when its actually released.

  17. 1 minute ago, Xenom said:

i don't get how ppl would want a wipe...the claim system has to work so companies can't just hold unneeded claims so it will regulate itself soon after the changes are made. a wipe would not help anything if it is not this way and if it is this way why punish those playing daily? 😛

The upkeep system is going to be a huge change and depending on how much information they release on it, I doubt any players will be ready for it. For anyone that has 50 claims (which is small IMO) the cost could be a huge amount and not be ready for it. On top of that, how is the upkeep system going to choose what claims are going to disappear, especially if you have multiple bases in different servers? For example, I have a main island claim (a small one, maybe 30 claims or so) I have a small farming outpost at an allies claim off server and I have a whaling outpost up north that has about 15 claims. If I can't keep the upkeep cost, how is the system going to determine which claims are taken down?

It is easier for there to be a server wipe so that players, as they expand, can monitor the cost to maintain the upkeep of what they currently have and plan for the future. What you are asking for is that is for the upkeep system to be dumped into the game and everyone being forced to stop playing the game to figure out what they wanna do with the new upkeep system. At the end of the day, official is going to be wiped eventually, the best time to do it is a major change to how the claims work.

  18. There SHOULD be a wipe, infact there has to be a wipe. Not because I want a wipe, but if you look at the facts, an upkeep system is coming to the game, that will probably change the game entirely. The best thing for developers to do to make sure that this change is added SMOOTHLY, is to wipe the servers, all players can get adjusted to the new upkeep and plan accordingly as they claim land and the developers can monitor the upkeep costs as companies grow their empire and make balance changes or overhauls efficiently.

It doesn't make sense for the upkeep system to be added to live before a server wipe. I don't think a single company will be significantly prepared for the upkeep change. Players will instantly complain about this and have a shit storm so large it will probably be on the same level as the one in December. Players won't have a chance to test the new system and instead will just constantly make forums posts for it to be removed. I'm sure there will still be those posts, but just not as many.

    • Thanks 1

  19. With the upcoming changes, especially to claims and the upkeep cost, there is no way in hell that the top companies are going to be prepared for that upkeep cost. The best thing for the developers to do, is wipe all official and start fresh so that the upkeep cost can be closely examined and balanced as needed as the new world of official starts growing. Its going to be a huge change for players, so have a map wipe is the easiest way to monitor the situation.

If the upkeep costs gets added to everything without a map wipe, these forums are going to get blasted and the devs are going to get pressured.

  20. For NA and EU PvP change the scoring requirements for the top companies to actual PvP scoring instead of it being based off land claims. The best companies should be based off their ability to PvP, not their ability to place a flag down and wait 10 minutes or 4 hours (depending on where its at). Give point values to things like large storage chests, beds and ships and for each one destroyed you get point accumulation. Sink a ship at sea, 50 points, destroy a bed 10 points, destroy a storage chest, 5 points. Sinking anchored ships are with 0 points (can put that on a time limit to where they have to be anchored for 30 minutes or so so they can't be exploited).

Since the upkeep cost is being added (I"m assuming in March, with the big update), then the unit you measure the best should also be changed. For NA & EU PvP, that unit is PvP. Make it work Devs! This allows more chances for any number of companies to be at the top, not just the companies that are alpha tribes. The better PvPer wins and they should be at the top.

  21. Just revert the changes to explosive barrels to where they are useless, unless they are placed on a suicide sloop. Was your intent for explosive barrels to be used for offline raiding, to promote offline raiding? As long as these explosive barrels can be used to destroy shit when people aren't around or offline, off-lining shit is gonna keep happening.

  22. I agree that large cannons should remain as I like the fact that they have higher range, it makes attacking islands a lot easier, when getting rid of those coastal defenses. And I agree, having it to where the cannons snap to the top deck instead of whatever you want placed should be the way to go. I'm hoping this keeps getting more and more attention. Idk if they'll be able to add this into the Feb update, but maybe the next one they might have a better solution for the issue.

They should just be able to make cannons snap to the railing of a panel like swivel guns do.

I do feel like the ship meta is going to change drastically eventually and hopefully the changes will be handled smoothly when they change.
