Ark is currently listed at #10 Steam's top games by player count.
    Atlas is #17.

I'm not sure where you learned business or economics but those do not look like failures. As a matter of fact, based on the success of Ark, I'd fully expect them to use the same exact playbook they did with Ark. In this case, the method obviously isn't broke so they have no reason to fix it.  Despite all the bitching that's been done about Atlas, all the threats to quit and all the prophecies of doom, the fact is, people are still playing it. A lot of people.

As disheartening as this sounds, until those numbers start to tank, expect them to proceed exactly as they have planned.  Apparently they're going to have to screw up even worse than FOY.

  2. Anyone figured out how to paint on just a canvas? Tried, doesn't seem to work and the Ark canvas is different.  Painted it a solid color and tried to save it, said it couldn't save a blank canvas. Tried to load one of the compass snapshots to it, the canvas wouldn't list the file to load.

If I was working on a game and there was a bug like this it would be top priority. Its an issue that allows PVP on a PVE server. That is the definition of game breaking and should be an all hands on deck high priority issue that gets solved immediately. Its obvious that has not been the case here (plenty of other fixes for smaller issues and content have been added since this was first reported) and the devs should be held to account for that. End of debate.

I didn't disagree with that but you're looking at a dev TEAM, not one individual who knows the entire code base.  Changes to one function could have drastic effects across a lot of other parts of the code and it's not as simple as one guy in one department working on one set of code saying... hummm... I just fix that now.

I actually have a BS in Software Engineering and work as a programmer for a living.

Then I shouldn't have to give you a childish lecture on just how difficult it is to make stable, idiot proof code should I?  Nor should I have to sit here and have your educated ass lecture me about being a fanboy because we both know what we're talking about.

Perhaps you should stop sucking up to the devs and pretending everything they do is perfect.

You need to get your head out of your ass and read the forums. I am NOT one to suck up to the devs. Read my posts and you'll find out I'm just as pissed off and just as vocal and just as critical about what's screwed up as everyone else. The difference between me and you is, I write code and I understand just how difficult it is to prevent unintended ways that the code is used. The code for this game is MILLIONS of lines... do you understand that? MILLIONS of lines and much of that is written by another company who makes the gaming engine. Do you understand that?  That changing that entire gaming engine isn't as easy as you would like to imagine.  If you think it's so damned easy, why don't you go out and download Unreal Engine and write your own game... it's free.

I'm going to say this again and maybe it'll sink into your thick skull. They have attempted one fix already and will most likely attempt more. Just be glad I'm not one of the dev's otherwise I would have already thrown my hands up in the air at your brand of ignorance, looked at the other devs and said, "Well, we made bank.  What's our next project?"

Make sure you cant hold onto a grapple hook when overcumbered. And another one they abuse would be gone. But hey... We get new "features" like the foy shoved down our throat that no one asked for. Priorities.

Again, that may not be so easy to fix.  What if they're just 1 under being encumbered?  Do you still allow that grappling hook to work? How about climbing picks?  What about zipline anchors?  At what point do you say those things won't work?  50%?  Well, ok, so it takes twice as many of them.

    14 minutes ago, Grongash said:

Well.. make it so you can handcuff/cage non company players that logout on your ship and bam.. new feature and profession.

Ok, so in this scenario they all build cages and put them on your ship.  They then toss chickens in that cage and lock it so you don't have access to it and you... are over crew and can't do jack about it.

I haven't tested this theory but from the way this game works, yea, I should be able to sink ships with chickens.

What is so damn hard about just not letting anchored ships sink with overweight and instead pin them down? No way to exploit it and faster than the current crappy "fix" that only brought problems. Makes you wonder if any of them even play this game.

Well, I see several problems here.

First, there's the over-crew issue whereby they could essentially sink you just by tossing a gob of passive/nofollow chickens on your ship (wait, did I just give them ideas?)
    Second, there's the overweight issue.

Now, if they simply prevented ships at anchor from being made overweight then of course they wouldn't sink.  But what about when you lift anchor?  What was to prevent them from all jumping aboard your ship and sinking it that way?  If they had prevented ships from moving when overweight, what's to prevent them from all boarding your ship and preventing it from moving as a griefing tactic or, as I suggested, just tossing a bunch of chickens on your ship that you can't get rid of and just walking away, causing you to be over crew the minute you lift anchor

What they have to come up with is a method that prevents unintended weight, not added by the company or the owner AND unintended crew being added without allowing a griefing method.  That may not be as easy as it sounds as it creates even more issues. One thing I've done in the past to allow for easier trades is to unlock some boxes on my ship so the trader can easily transfer items without having to toss them on the ground.  How to you allow that to happen without allowing the potential for griefing?

Look, they've already attempted one fix. It's not a complete fix but it has prevented one type of griefing and forced them to switch to others.

I've always said that writing code is easy.  Making it idiot proof is the hard part.  They're learning from their mistakes as we progress and are attempting to fix them.

For now, all we can do is keep making them aware of these methods and hope they fix them quickly as they come up.

  8. Yesterday I went to another island to farm fiber because what's on my island is crap.  I took a bear.  With the 2x bonus, I had 100,000 fiber in about 30 minutes and that's with the owner charging 30% tax.  On the island where I live, that would have taken me all day.

Was I happy to pay that tax?  You bet I was.

Why ppl keep posting about, ping, often updates, broken mecs, etc?

Why? Because it's rather obvious that the dev's don't even play their own game and if we kept our mouths shut about things that are screwed up, they'd never know.

This seems like a no brainer for a MMO built around sailing ships.

We need the ability to just unclaim a ship and it become owned by whoever claims it next, including all parts on board.

Shipyards building to order should be a thing.

You'd think that ANY mmo released today would have some sort of system to allow you to safely trade with other players to prevent scamming before it even goes live right? Welcome to Atlas.

Just copy paste your twitter announcement to the forums instead of expecting people to go to twitter.

They don't even have to do that if I'm not mistaken.  Twitter has an OAuth system which would allow them to create one post here and have it simultaneously posted to Twitter.  But, that would require some coding on their part and we're all aware of that story.

Two words: Buffalo excrement.  MMO DOES NOT preclude solo play.  Perhaps some of us like to learn the game before screwing up in a group.  Heck, I've already  posted today that I love running Highest Difficulty content with a properly built and equipped solo character that takes a group of 6 characters at the same level to complete at medium difficulty.

It makes me feel... Superior. 😄

I'm trying to set restrictions by company groups for certain ships. I can successfully restrict the wheel, though the sails which are set at 10, are still usable by members with a rank of 1. They can also still lower the anchor. Am I doing this correctly or is it just bugged?

Nope, that's exactly what I encountered. Which means, you better have your ships pointed toward land otherwise a pissed off corp member could raise the sails and take off. They couldn't steer but they may not care.

Did you try to join the groups enclosing islands or are you really going to try and play solo in an MMO, then complain about how solo players are not catered to in a massively multiplayer game?

Because no MMO should EVER... EVER... promote solo play.  It's just unfathomable why anyone would want to play with others yet have control over their in-game destiny.

The age mechanic is a wonderful thing, Once all of it's effects are ingame it will be really cool. People don't realize not all the features are in the game yet, you are buying into Alpha. Later on, the legacy mechanic will come in and the aging system will all make sense to people and will come with benefits.

I'm gonna steal some quotes here.

Until that time the beatings will continue until morale improves.
I feel like the whole purpose of this game is to see who's the last person to rage quit.

Twice now Chinese population has caused massive rollbacks resulting in 8+ hours of roll backs.....

Your community wants them gone.... do your job.

Just came back from trading.  One of the places I've gone to in the past was a nicely run 'inn' with open crafting tables and gobs of fiber to farm.  Today, all the doors were locked shut and a large portion of the resources were already gone.  There was also a notice on the gent's claim flag not to anchor ships anywhere on the island otherwise you'd risk them being sunk by asians. After talking to this normally friendly and hospitable gent he informed me that he had to lock down and close his facilities after these, as he denoted Chinese, moved into the island and proceeded to drag SotD to the shore in order to destroy player ships and structures.  He said his tax building had been destroyed twice by this tactic.  Keep in mind, this is a pve server. I did stop to farm some fiber and on one of the claims he previously owned was a new building with those infamous square blocks for the claimant's name.

Thus far, I've had no interaction with any Asians on the server.  I have watched their streams on occasion but other than that I personally have nothing against them.  However, when their perceived actions results in someone I trade with turning from hospitality to hostility as a means of survival then I'm inclined to take sides.

Whatever nationality they are, if they are exploiting the game's systems in order to grief, harass, provoke or otherwise make the game unplayable and unenjoyable for others then boot their asses out.

Furthermore, it should not take the public broadcasting of Atlas by a streamer in order for you dev's to take action. You have your bug reports, you have the complaints on these forums, you have the complaints on Twitter, Discord and Reddit. Do your investigating in a timely manner, fix the exploits they use and then kick their asses back across the Pacific.  That or give them their own server and leave the exploits in place so they can beat each other over the head since it is apparent they refuse to act like civilized humans.

Lmfao are you serious? Did you not see the Q&A?

2 hours of addressing ALL possible bugs and upcoming changes to the game. I mean what more do you guys want? Do you want them to play the game for you too?

No, it was 15 minutes of addressing user concerns and an hour and a half of telling us about all crap they're going to add before they even think about what the players want.
