Unofficial servers and mods are what will move this game in the right direction.  The Dev's latest bumbleheaded decision shows they don't seem to understand the problems with the game. Between 1/4 and 1/3 of arrows, sometimes up to 1/2 of arrows do not register as hits, yet they think limiting a bow to 40 shots is a step in the right direction.  It's like they never play the game.  The bow is already nerfed.  It didn't need another nerf.

The reduced ship cost is a step in the right direction.  Everything else they did is not a step in the right direction.

I agree, but remember nothing is permanent at this point.

There will be a lot more altering and balancing in the coming two years.

I agree that I have hope, but one can only hold out hope so long.  A little too late is a saying for a reason, and I feel like their lack of planning for the balance of this game is going to kill it before they can get running.  Unfortuantely after all the massive issues it would take a major about face to save the current players that no ammount of hope on our part can even start to help the problem.  Once the zerg companys unleash they will wipe everyone clean and the majority didnt buy the game to be a worker bee in a mega company or to live on a raft for weeks in lawless or starter zones.  Poor mechanics and poorly implemented design choices that you can't save unless you make a 180 before the next game comes out and everyone forgets atlas was ever a waste of $25.

I'm pretty sure they they will get ahead of the problems at some point.

Ark for example had worse problems and they did figure them out for the most part.

If you're really not enjoying the game in the current state i would just lay it aside for now and keep an eye on some streamers or patch notes.

That's how i usually deal with it,  i did test several games in beta/alpha/early access.

If they don't they will have to somehow get their players back instead of just retain them from here out.

Yeah, it did surprise me that they didn't have those mechanics since the beginning.

But it is still very early access, so i think they will implement those.

  4. The game supposed to be designed for large groups..

So it isnt really intended for a solo player or a small group..

But still, i agree with you.

Eve has a bit of the same concept like atlas, but they have game mechanics that support smaller groups and solo players.

And atlas doesn't have that yet sadly.

Offline raid protection is the best idea. I mean, I wouldn't hear 5 people hacking at my door with picks and just sleep thru it? Nobody wants to constantly gather materials to build ship after ship.

Offline raid protection makes no sense in this game. When a big group is playing the server is most likely full so you cant attack on day times.

With offline raid protection, you cant attack at night either.

    So what ends up happening?

You cant attack at daytime because big company's and alliances have most of their grids almost full off players.

And you can't attack at night because there is offline protection.

doesn't make sense at this stage of the game.. we have far bigger things to worry about.

  6. I would suggest to join a company, it gives you a safe haven most of the time..

Don't get to attached your items in-game.. that's not how atlas works really, especially not on the pvp server.

You will build up levels and skills points that are very important. And experience in doing things like sailing a ship can be very important later on.

The initiated collection isn't that bad to be honest if you know how to do it.

I can get from scratch to metal tools pretty quickly..  a raft is also very fast to make.

Finding a nice group/company was the hardest for me.

I own and have owned plenty of EA games and understand it's a work in progress. Still doesn't explain the host of bad decisions since it's early access launch, and EA status shouldn't buy game studios blanket clearance for shit choices. Sorry to hurt your fanboy feelings, but I tend to call a spade a spade. Regardless your comment did very little to touch on the subject of my post, but hey, thanks for trying.

If you really played more ea games than would have posted this.

This clearly states you have no idea what you're talking about.

''   I can live with bugs, server down time, delays,  ''  Seriously? and you can't wait for development, balancing and changing of mechanics?

If you think those things have to be good right from the start then you're delusional.

Those are  100% early access events.

I would suggest refunding the game, clear your tears, and play a game that is EA in your eyes.

I'd be fine with schooners being craft able at a public doc n a freeport. This is supposed to be more MMO ish, and giving players access to more in certain scenarios can help longevity.

It might also be worth adding more benefit to the freeports. Those few "personal claim flags" could be made available on the free port islands. Maybe like 10-20 on each one, where a shop can be opened to sell items through a personal vendor, or maybe a company vendor so anyone in the company could sell items through the vendor. This would also add a need/want to go back to Freeport and that penalty you need to punish murderers.

A new player should sail in a raft, to grasp how he needs to sail.

Anything above a raft is just easy mode..

Maybe they can add something in the future when there are far more ships.

But now? far to early in my opinion.

I know there is a thread with people advertising their servers! but its not great! does anyone know where some servers might be listed (other than ingame atlas)

looking for a 2x3 or a 4x4 map with a nice chunk of players on it!

Its just sooooooo brutal playing solo in this pvp pirate game! Ive played a good 20-30 hours solo been to a dozen+ islands all which are 100% claimed with large teams.

I don't think there is a website that lists them currently.

But I'm sure that will come in the future, its too early now.

  10. Anyone with common sense did know this is an ambitious game and that there would be a lot of bugs in the beginning.

Plus it is indeed early access, i have a lot of experience in early access games and the first weeks after release are always very bumpy, especially when a game is very ambitious.

I think a lot of people made the wrong decision to buy this game without any early access knowledge or experience.

Given the limited gameplay I'm allowed to have, I can tell you that my raft has decayed fully 6 times in the past few days. That's the knowledge I've learned from playing myself and watching it happen. As I'll shout what I've seen with my own eyes from my own gameplay each time. 🙂

All within 6 hours. In either a port or on the coast of a island maybe 300 feet from shore with anchor down. And points into sturdiness.

They may have changed it now but for the first 3 days that's how it was for me, So either I have / had a bug or glitch. Or that's how it is.

Yeah i know, there is something funky going on.. i hope they  look into it soon

Spent 5 hours on the game because:

    1: Delays

    2: Couldn't Join

3: The game kept making me restart for FATAL ERROR?

Now steam tells me that they wont refund because theres no evidence or some sht? Australian Consumer Laws entitle me to a refund of this game, I literally got 20fps on the lowest possible settings.

    1. Read the store page and find out what early access is.

    2. Consider if you want to go to all the bugs and trouble an early access game brings.

    3. Buy it if you accept those things or don't buy it if you don't wanna bother with it.

Nothing more else to say to be honest, and if you don't understand that then i don't know what to say man.

Lots of people have been reporting ships deteriorating rapidly, and since last patch there are also reports of ships that were fine immediately before the patch sank when they logged back in.

I can personally confirm that every single ship that was in the L5 Freeport on Kraken's Maw that was there when the server went down this morning is now sunk.  Probably upwards of a hundred rafts including mine disappeared and over a dozen larger ships are wreckage sitting on the bottom right now.

Somebody posted a video earlier of an anchored schooner deteriorating faster than they could repair and sinking in the space of ten minutes.  Also see my above post.  There's definitely a major issue here.

I'm aware of that, our company lost a schooner as well.

and after all we found out that we almost never inspected the ship and had damaged planks somewhere.

And yes i saw that stream live, i saw it happening.. we still don't have any proof what exactly happened there.. but i suspect a bug.

And keep in mind that it is early acces and they are working their booty off to fix major issues, especially server issues atm.

It will be fixed I'm sure of that.
