I can interact with with the ship yard, ship, and my inventory, but cannot interact with anything outside of the shipyard. This included attacking animals, closing items (doors), opening inventories of other items (Smith, Large Storage, Fireplace, Etc.) and every log out regardless of location returns the character to this location.
