Holding Territory needs to be a Mini-Game

Recommended Posts

There needs to be more steps in the territory claiming system to reduce the speed at which companies can claim land and how they are maintained.

1) Each territory flag has a chest at the base of the flag with basic resources (Wood, Thatch, Fiber, Hide) the resources slowly get consumed, When the chest is empty the flag starts to decay, when its fully decayed its destroyed. To initiate a claim other players need to destroy the chest or wait for the decay timer. Owners of the territory need to repair the chest at the flag to stop the timer. Any player can destroy the chest but only the company can open it, so the flag needs to defended.

New members are automatically a Recruit or Crew and need to be promoted by the Owner to Officer or above.

2) Company Skill Tree - (Effected by Owner and Officers only)

Owner Skill column

  • Tier 0 -  3 flags (total regardless of the number of members)
  • Tier 1 - 4 flags / Officers can place flags now limited to 1 flag per officer (For a total of 4 placed flags still)
  • Tier 2 - 8 Flags / Branch tier with Extend flag radius (+2 tiers) / Branch Tier increase officer flag placement by 1 / Unlocks Officers Skill tree
  • Tier 3  - Large strongbox crate at Flag, Now requires refined alloy, 12 Flags

Officer Skill column (Skilled by the Officers)

  • Tier 0 - Place 1 flag on behalf of the company
  • Tier 1 - Place 2 flags on behalf of the company  +1 flag increase to company total flag placement
  • Tier 2 - Place 3 flags on behalf of the company +1 flag increase to company total flag placement
  • Tier 3 - Reduce the rate of consumption from Chest when the player in the claimed radius of flag + connected neighboring flags  (By 15%)  +1 flag increase to company total flag placement

Notes -
When Owner Tier 2 is reached interact with Flags to upgrade them

When Owner Tier 3 is reached interact with Flags to upgrade them

So to read this correctly-

The owner with Tier 0 he/her can only place 3 flags for the company. For Tier 1 Officers/Owner can now place upto 4 flags. For Tier 2 You can now have a total of 8 Flags, the skill tree branches to include a Radius branch (+2 tiers, radial over the flag to select upgrades) and unlocks the Officer Skill tree for officers of the company (Total of 8 flags, Officers can place 2 of those flags).

Tier 3 you can radial over each flag to upgrade to a  Large Strong Box but doing so now requires refined alloy to maintain. The Owner + Officers can place upto 12 Flag + Officer Skill tier per Officer.

On the Officer Skill tree, Tier 0 means they can place 1 flag so long as company isn't at max flag capacity and the Owner has Tier 2 skill unlocked. Tier 2 an officer can place 2 flags (so long as company isn't at max flag capacity and the Owner has Tier 2 skill unlocked) + additional 1 flag to increase total  ect ect ect..

So a company with an Owner at Tier 2 + 4 Officers at Tier 2 the company can place a total of  16 flags

A company with an Owner at Tier 3 + 4 Officers at Tier 2 the company can place a total of 20 flags

To makes this more of a grind you can also include a limit on the number of officers and add another branch for the owner to skill up to increase the officer amount. and to make it more complex for the larger companies each Drydock ship must have an officer assigned to the ship prior to releasing the ship. You could also added other ranks to the company where an Admiral rank player can be assigned to multiple ships and the Admiral skill tree can increase their ship command capacity. This will reduce the speed at which all Companies can expand on the open seas.

If the Owner or Officers re-skill at anytime the company does not lose the current territory, however the company can not expand unless the owner and the officers have the correct skills again.

I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts and ideas. Feel free to post them, negative thoughts on this post is also welcome it will help with fine tuning the territory claim system.
