What good is a diving suit on PvE server?

Tried out the diving suit on a wreck.
Problem is, on a PvE server, you cannot loot or salvage any of the wreck.
It seems the only benefit is to salvage materials from one of your OWN wrecks.
It would seem more logical for it to have ownership expiration timer, or something.
