How to disable sleeping while offline?

I'm running a private dedicated server, and it's driving us insane that player characters "go to sleep" while they log off. It is causing some issues with placing flags. Also, there are many copies of our own characters (There are only a handful of us right now). 
WHen player logs off, I want them to be gone. Is there a way to do that?
