Because if you play you'll get to feel like a pirate god too, crushing your foes beneath your heel in your galleon!

For pirates to exist there also needs to be navy or law enforcement, merchants and traders, and probably slaves (historically speaking).

The hardcore ark fan base will never leave though.

I would change this to the hardcore "official PvP" Ark fan base.

I love Ark. Not for the terrible official servers and joke of a support system. But for the awesome modding community. Ark can be whatever you want.

This is exactly the opposite of what Atlas needs to be a successful MMO.

Oh I am very anti mega as well. The reason why I know my theory is right is because this is there MO for how they fix stuff.

i didn’t bring up the advantage for Megas because on any change no matter how small the advantage will always go to the Megas, that is why I don’t even bring that up anymore. Being an ark veteran I am already familiar with that.

If the devs wanted this to be mega factions. Then why didn't they just add factions as part of the gameplay. A tri-faction system has been popular in PVP Mmos, like Eve online. The Devs could have done something unique here, but no they didn't. Just pirate flavored Ark, heavy on the grind and hold the fun.

  4. The Devs should have taken a page from the Eve online book and made players and ships non persistent. Have ship insurance as a gold sink. Encourage an economy with MMO trade systems. Discourage huge laggy bases and zoos of tames with Limits. And tames should have something like a PixBlock/pokeball/cryoball.

That was never how it was advertised I just remember huge mmo 40,000 plaayers

Both the map (all the server grids) and the player limit per map is well publicized.

You can download the map tool from github with the official map. Look on battlemetrics site for the individual grid limits.

    I never did figure out how 15x15 map grids x 150 players/ grid = 33750 .... rounds UP to 40k.

OPs theory is way too optimistic.

I think it's for the streamers. Easier to pop structures are more cinematic for streamers, half these weird changes directly benefit pvp streamers and their entourage while putting their victims at a disadvantage.

Streamers are the cheapest way of advertising your game to a large audience and grapeshot seems to take advantage of this.  Remember how in the early weeks their twitter would never even address people's concerns or issues? All they ever did was plug pvp streams/videos.

    /cynicism

Why buy the game, when you can save your money and just watch streamers play?

Atlas Game The New MMO over 40,000 players Able To Play Together On One Server ( As long as you Don't build or tame pets)

You forgot 1 server is really 225 servers. Each with a max number of players per grid.

Well, if they add it, or it becomes intuitive to set up ourselves, then it's something I'd definately give a go

I think this could breathe new life into the game. And get returning players. Especially with the modding community cranking out new mods. The Devs could add a best SINGLE player mod category to their first mod contest.

Maybe before launch they do wipe, but for EA time wipe is a catastrophe. Most of my guildmates are still playing because they have base, ships and tames. A lot of work was done and no one wants to start over again.

If the devs truly do a land claim revamp, without a wipe there will not be a good way to know if the new system truly works.

Constant wipes will decrease player base to 500 testers. And maybe they will be happy with server performance :classic_biggrin:

Not wiping the servers will lead to a slowly degrading players base with NO influx of new and returning players.

Plus EA wipes help reinforce the idea of a wipe for launch. Who would want to buy a $60 game with no fresh servers.

One of the reasons im not enthused by single player and unofficial servers is that by design, those modes can't capture the feel of the full game... a 2x2 square private cluster can't replicate the official servers scope... it's too expensive.

There is already a 3rd party program that switches servers for a full map experience on a normal PC. Sadly, Atlas servers will not function over LAN and my mobile isp dosen't work for port forwarding a internet server.

the Problem is, that there is no Option for a "come back for an updaten", because there will be no land to settle

    Agreed.

This I why I keep saying add SP mode and true LAN server support, like Ark.  This would help the population stability. People who aren't up for all the exploits on official could still play the game in single player mode.

Also, major updates need to come with WIPES. This is the only way to bring new and returning players in. Also, supports adding SP mode, give new and returning players a testing environment to test out character and ship builds and hone their skills.

I admit that I don't blame them.  They know the game is full of people who don't understand what real PvP is.  People are gladly taking buying the snake oil, and fooling themselves into believing it's a real cure...because they want to believe.

It's really that this is more a sandbox than an organized mmorpg like WOW or some of the cool faction based PvP games like DAoC.

I played WWIIOL, which was open world, and long term.  Some campaigns lasted months.  I believe one lasted over 6 months.  The sides could be imbalanced, but there were mechanisms to balance the imbalance.  Spawn delays, for instance.  The problem here is that there is nothing at all to give help to a defender, who is almost certainly going to be outgunned, since the attacker chooses the time and place of the attack, and they almost always do so when everything is to their advantage.  This means that your only real defense is to go unnoticed.  If somebody targets you, there is nothing you can do about it, and that makes the game boring.

Based on the dev interviews I have read, they are planning on just leaving the gameplay and content in the hands of the players. Which I think is a really bad idea. Game mechanics are needed.

The problem with these games, ARK and Atlas, are that fools convince themselves that clubbing baby seals was somehow an achievement to be proud of.  If I raid an offline base, I have a gross feeling about it.  No challenge.  Nothing accomplished to be proud of.

I stick with PvE in these type games cause PvP is usually too ridiculous. They aren't well balanced for long term gameplay. That's why battleroyal types games are so popular, it's not long term.

Not really, but you are free to continue with your delusion.

Imagine your favorite FIFA team shows up to the stadium, and you and your friends show up, and the score is already 50-0 against your team.  You are like, WTF?  The announcer says, "Well, the other team showed up at 4:00 am and started playing.  Too bad for you."

How long do you think a sport would last with that kind of thing taking place?  Not long, Sport.

PvP should be hardcore. Only 1 life to live. Like reality. Yolo.

EA as if that means it gets a pass on crappy ideas, lack of quality content, ignoring bugs, poor design and unbalanced game play.

I think this is only true for the White knights. Most people are critical of EA. At least constructive criticism.

I'm not sure the devs know what they want it to be

Agreed. Of course that wanted all types to buy the game.

games in general, live and die on the 'casual majority

Also agreed. I am still holding out hope for either single player mode or true LAN server support. Most games in this genre (the REAL genre) have a Single player mode.

Atlas has a long way to go before being a true MMO.
