I am not understanding something here. How are they getting close to the flag? Are you not putting walls around it?

I was asleep in my house. All doors closed and pin coded and the flag is directly next to the house.

Somehow they managed to kill me and claim all our plots over night. We lost thousands upon thousands of materials, armor/weapons for 4 people, a reasonably big house. Well basically everything we gathered and build the past weeks.

EDIT: on the EU PvE server

  2. You're not the only one. We had our bases stolen over night and I don't intend to become a no-lifer due to a flawed game mechanic. Mind  this was on the PvE server.

What did we do? Since it is so easy to lose everything you have build up, we could have decided to stay up one night and do the same, instead we decided to put Atlas on || (pause) until these game breaking mechanics are filtered out. Though I believe that will also turn into a definite break with the game, since this game is catered for large groups and with the mechanic out that broke our game, it will be near impossible to get something in the future. So yeah game over. Was fun 2 weeks for €20.

  3. I have high hopes for this game and took a lot of its flaws with a grain of salt and literally as "early access" material. But the overnight claiming, while you are asleep in your territory (as you're supposed to apparently) and you losing literally everything. Is a stretch too far.

Ofc it happened to me and a buddy. We lost basically all the stuff we made since the game start just because we went to sleep. If this is a mechanic that is supposed to work like this and tailor to the real hardcore people, then fine, let it be that way. But the times that I would even consider staying up at night for a video game are far behind me and something I am not willing to do.

Sure I am pissed and on the other hand I also understand that this could possibly be still a flaw, but yeah if this is intended and supposed to stay this way, then this is probably not the game for me.

I hope the devs come up with a new claiming system as this is absolutely not defendable in any way unless you have no-life.

Nope. Even if by some unlikely chance hundreds of people sailed out in the same direction all at once, when the next grid hits player cap the walls turn red and don't let you cross into that grid. You've never seen the red server walls?

Can you already hear the disgruntled voices about others getting a headstart? 😉

In that case you could implement a mechanic to let players leave freeports in all 8 directions to neighbouring grids instead of just 4. Also, you could still have a maximum number of players in a freeport, but then at least it could be 600-800 instead of 150 yea?

Having more areas to spread out to would solve that problem partially but then you have to change to grid design and world map to hexagon based.

It's perfect for pvp servers if it's ONLY the freeports. All that lawless territory will be open for claiming. As for PvE, just put up a whole new server cluster or let private servers handle the load.

Agreed, the freeports only. But wouldn't you run into the problem branching out if for example 10K people go for say A6 and then leave the area?

I get it, but then permanently or not. The only thing this can cause is more complaints.. ‘i cant play this weekend and my enemy now has a bonus to wipe me out’ that kind of stuff.

We're on the same wavelength but approached from a different angle 😉

  7. Though it is a nice idea for people to catch up on their own goals, I do see the pitfalls of adding these kinds of bonusses (despite the fact that it has to be tested in early access).

MMO's have always suffered between content and grinding.

In a general sense, when people eat through content to fast, they will get bored and leave. When they have to grind too much they get frustrated and leave. Depending on how far everyone is and how much they can actually achieve with this bonus in these 2 days, I have to agree with the OP.

Despite this being early access, the majority doesn't treat it this way. For them it is the full game gone live on early for their convenience and the purpose of early access is easily forgotten. So losing a lot of people now due to boredom (partially though these events), could have a side effect.

But that is just my 2c 😉

  8. I started in E4 which is a freeport, sailed around a bit on my raft and then moved into D4 after that and put down a small house and started building up from there. In the meantime I have a claim on A4, but still have the majority of my stuff on D4 (lawless) which is relatively "safe" in terms of animals (apart from the OP Wolves). What I am trying to say is that the more you venture far far away and do it solo, the greater the challenge which your gear and level isn't up to yet.

  9. I am sorry to say this but this game to a certain level is very well solo-eable. You just have to anticipate on the dangers you encounter out there. No I don't have endless time to play this game either but I managed to build a small house on a lawless island with workbenches and all and I make pre-cautions when I am for example going to sail the seas. Like not take my full armor and guns with me. Or store them in a storage box when I am going to undertake something that might get me killed on the open sea.

And I haven't played ARK, only a few hours of Dark & Light and Life is Feudal, in the survival spectrum.
