  5. Title. The current claim system in ATLAS is broken and detrimental to the overall game experience. It goes against everything the game wants to be and if not changed, will likely lead to a dwindling player base. All you have to do is constantly run around an enemy island naked and press F1 to drop claim flags. As long as you have a bed stashed away somewhere on the island or on a ship nearby, you can do this indefinitely. Some claims will get contested, others won't, but you will be able to maintain constant harassment on them until the either log out and you take the claims in their off hours, or they will get burnt out chasing you around and just give up. You can't even see which of your claims are being contested, at the very least it should turn yellow on your map. The bigger the zerg you have helps with this because you have the numbers to keep up the naked F1 claim spam attack. It's pointless to even engage in proper PvP as there is no current value to it. Just grab some friends, get a bed hidden and throw yourself at the enemy spamming F1 around until you eventually get a claim down. There are some ways to solve this problem though, for example: 1) The flag could be changed from an ability to a physical object (Think tool cupboards from Rust). This way it's not possible to infinitely drop them on the enemy as you will have to craft them and keep them in supply. It could also weight a lot so as to discourage carrying multiple. This would also allow players to build around their claim flags and people would actually have to raid the base to take out the claim. This would be ideal. Or 2) To contest or take over another person's claim, you don't drop your own flag, you toggle on their flag and the capture/contest radius is a much smaller ring. This way it's much easier to see where the people are and PvP is almost guaranteed (No more naked hide and seek). This wouldn't be my preferred change but it would be a step in the right direction. I am sure there are other ways to change the claim system for the better and I hope people will comment in this thread with their ideas. The current system just doesn't work, it creates a meta that goes against everything ATLAS wants to be. It encourages cowardice, toxic behavior, griefing, zerging and PvP avoidance We plant claims to seize land. We attack claims to capture land. This is a hostile action. It's conflict. It's war. It's supposed to be anyway... But why should I bother loading up Galleons when a few rafts and some naked friends are just as effective...

If you are in Australia and NZ and are looking for a decent PvP server, have a look at https://www.gamingalliance.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=113&t=179&p=359#p359 for server info and map of Gaming Alliance's 3x3 Atlas cluster. I played officials and it was a nightmare with pings of 1400+. I tried a lot of australian unofficials and they were laggy, rates were unbalanced or they were full of trolls and griefers. I went to Gaming Alliance as played their servers for two years in Ark and knew they were the best unofficial. I got pings of 49-50 (I am in South East Qld, Australia). The game was suddenly playable. The admin for Gaming Alliance is very experienced in running Ark servers and has tweaked the Atlas settings, it has increased rates but in a balanced manner that makes the game challenging yet keeps it fun. The spawn region is PvE and has higher rates than the other regions but also has rules preventing bases or galleons being built - it is a spawn island only so people can start up and leave to the PvP regions to establish a base. It is a great community, lots of fun and everyone works together as well as some well mannered and hilarious PvP action. Small tribes only, max 5, and has it's own discord. Check it out you won't be disappointed.
  7. Hello readers, I want to suggest adding dedicated raid times to official PvP servers. At the moment lots of people constantly get raided during the night which makes it imposible to progres in the game. Also it is not fun for both the raider and the defender. I would love if you guys put up timeframes where raiding is allowed. And the rest of the time buildings cant be damaged. for example from 5-12 PM raiding is allowed. But before and after that buildings that are claimed are protected. Lots of other survival games have this and with the gigantic size of atlas it doesnt sound like a bad idea to me.

  10. First, let's understand that the Devs have a vision of this game involving heavy trade and mercantilism. That sounds awesome for a game involving ships, and pirates. However, this can NEVER exist in a game that promotes mindless PvP and destruction. If you want the first part, you have to put throttles on the second. So how to do that? I believe that several things can be done. First, we do want PvP. We do want raiding, and we do want to sink ships. But how can we do this in a manner that doesn't inhibit fun gameplay? The basis would be a Reputation System that mimicked a justice system. This does not have to be hard or complicated. It simply has to recognize that all PvP and all Destruction are not equal. First, you have a system of lawful and unlawful points awarded, and and then have a few different player standings related to that system. At a minimum, they would be: Lawful Outlaw Most Wanted Outlaw (option) Dread Pirate With Lawful, you are unrestricted, you go anywhere and enter any port, freely. With Outlaw, you are free game for other players to shoot at, and you can't enter lawful ports. AI would shoot at you and your ship if you enter. With Most Wanted Outlaw, Lawful players are given a buff when combating you on land and at sea, and an AI Royal Navy hunts you. But people also want to sink ships, a lot. So, you put in smugglers, and pirates in all ship classes, with their difficulty ranging by the class of ship they are in, and the rewards for sinking them equal to their class. Sloops easiest, and Galleons hardest. Sinking them also gives you lawful points. Lawful points don't build up, they just remove Outlaw points. Conducting trade with lawful sailors and merchants in other companies, gives lawful points. Raiding adds Outlaw points, but so long as the destruction is not mindless, this won't add a huge amount of points. This is determined by what you destroy. Doors, hatches, and containers won't add a lot of points. Damaging ship hulls, masts, sails, etc...adds a lot of points. Sinking them adds a whole lot of points. Same goes for bases. Containers would also have an option to just destroy the lock. This allows for less Outlaw points as you do not destroy the container. This allows you to take what you want, and the owner comes back to find what you did not take, still in the container. This will allow for more mercantilism and trade because you don't lose everything and start from scratch. You have something to trade to get gold to purchase important things you lost. Presently, the container gets destroyed, the raider may not even take anything, but everything in the container is lost. The above will actually, also encourage real Pirate game play. You have somebody outgunned, and no way to run...you offer them the out of letting you board, and take what you want, then leave without a lot of destruction. Time will also be a modifier on your Outlaw score. Time lowers your outlaw score by a set rate, if no outlaw activities have been committed within a set number of hours. This would need to be subject to testing, balancing and tweaking to get it right. Companies and individuals could accept player placed missions for escort duty. A player merchant asks for an escort for their merchant ships, and other players accept the mission. Only upon acceptance do you learn where the origination and destination are. The original request only tells you within a 3x3 grid where both are. Once you accept, you are duty bound to do the job. This will affect your Outlaw score. If your company or allied company attacks this merchant, you get HUGE Outlaw points awarded. If a rival company sinks it, you get some, but not a lot. Getting the merchant to safety removes a good number of points. This also, would need tweaking to achieve the desired effect. Doing trade/business with lawful players and companies will add a small amount of lawful points. Declaring war on another company, would reduce the penalty for attacking ships and bases that are not ORP protected. You still want to encourage PvP, not PvE disguised as PvP. Also, a modifier based on your company's Outlaw status, and that of the Company you attack, could come into play. For instance, if you have no outlaw status, or a very low outlaw status, but you declare war on a company with a much higher outlaw status, you won't suffer gaining outlaw points as much. Individuals and Companies that reach Most Wanted Outlaw status, cause others to receive an offensive and defensive buff when battling them. Your status would not be a secret to you or others, and so the leaders would need to manage the activities of themselves and their members, and remove members who don't follow orders regarding this. Removing a rogue would not immediately remove their affect on your company's outlaw status. Time would remove it as per normal function. This prevents exploiting this system by kicking out those with high outlaw status, and bringing them back in when it is low, as a means of managing the company outlaw status. In short, once balanced and tweaked, this would not punish raiding, and PvP, that is not mindless destruction, and create an environment for a thriving economy. This system, along with some form of ORP, would prevent one person sinking a Brigantine, or Galleon, from shore or a raft, with some fire arrows. That is not the kind of game play most people are looking for. You cannot have mindless destruction and PvP in a game where you want to promote trade and mercantilism. However, a good system would also not eliminate PvP. It would instead promote it in a manner that made the game more enjoyable. Gamers, and especially Meta Gamers, will do what the game allows and rewards. They will not do, or do less, what the game punishes.
  11. Hello everyone, Here at RP Finest, we have got some existing ARK servers but we have now expanded into Atlas and wish to conquer the pirate seas...HAR HAR HAR! Our current server is a 2x2 server and is welcome to everyone, we have the server passworded due to the fact we like people to come through the Discord, you know socialize a bit before going on..fear not wonderful human beings, we are here to make your pirate adventure fun and entertaining. The plan is to expand on those four servers and to have eight or twelve (depending on how they perform etc.) All settings are on default and this is an RP server in case you didn't notice from the title.   12. Had a fight with a sloop this weekend. Our brig was able to gain on him. While a few of his tactics were top notch for out monevering our brig, his main tactic was to ride the zonewall, and zone right as we lined up on either gun side. Then due to the way the zoning works, I would spawn in and the sloop would be behind us. He was already turning around and able to zone right back. While yes this is absolutely a viable tactic, I feel it is absolutely cheese and shouldn't be a thing. I suggest a cooldown for zoning. If you've taken damage after x number of seconds from a player, you should not be allowed to enter a zone you just left after y number of seconds. I think this cooldown should be removed if you sank the ship you've taken damage from as well. To end my narrative, the sloop did end up out maneuvering us in a non-cheese way. They dropped a player off, he climbed the side and shot the driver. This confusion gave the sloop enough time redirect and lose us. Well done sloop. Well done.

Greetings I am currently playing ATLAS on the official EU PVE Server and would like to give some feedback and ideas based on the experiences I had so far: PVP on PVE I would like to see some way to toggle on PVP on PVE servers (for example to spar with some friends or to allow alliances voluntarily fight against each other). My idea here would be some sort of PVP flag, so that players (or ships) could toggle PVP on, allowing other players or ships to attack them if they have PVP toggled on as well. The change to “PVP on” could have some delay (like 5 minutes) so if a second player decides to engage the first player, the first player can see that PVP flag and ready himself for the fight. For ships, a separate toggle could be made or the PVP status could be set by the last player that has touched / is touching the helm. In order to prevent spamming, players that have “declared to be in PVP” should only be able to turn it back off again after some time or after engaging in a fight (like 10 minutes or so) and also not lose their status immediately after death, in order to allow the other players to actually fight and possibly even looting them. Obviously, if a player has PVP on and a player without PVP hits him accidentally, nothing should happen, so players don’t toggle on (for example when for farming) and can’t be baited into a fight by another player involuntarily. Alliance System It would be great if players could set ranks and permission for other alliance members, so that for example doors or containers could be accessed by freely. Right now, the only benefit is having other alliance members highlighted. Owned Markets or Warehouses I would like to see some sort of company-, alliance- or player-owned markets or warehouses where we can create orders (like “want to buy 10 X for Y” or “want to sell 30 N for M”) to allow some (unattended) trading with other players. I am not speaking of a global auction house, but more something along the line of a local shop or trading post. NPC Pirate Ships The amount and the strength of damned ships feel unbalanced and their appearance somewhat out of place during daylight. It would be great if the damned ships could be confined to night-time and regular NPC pirate-ships could take their place during the daylight instead, also allowing them to be balanced individually in strength and numbers. Underwater Weapons I would love to see some more underwater weapons, like a harpoon or allowing certain melee weapons, so I can defend myself better under water.   18. I was in a company of 150, and we could not stop the attack on our land. And here is how they did it. We controlled our full island and the opposing force controlled the one next to us. For over 24+ hours they had a group of 6 guys. 2 would build a raft and 4 would sail. They would ran around throwing flags till they got a location. Once they did they plopped down a stone structure. And every raft coming would have items like 2 ceilings and a couple walls after that point. They could get to our island in about 10 mins on the raft to stop the claim. They would run in and build on to their structure making it harder and harder to get inside. They were just building or replacing the parts were had just removed with cannons to make it impossible to get inside to kill the sleeping guy. We killed the vast majority of the raft runners, but if one wall goes up its about 20 more cannon shots atleast to get in. Needless to say our guys after 5000+ connon shots just gave up. The game was not even fun by this point. It was a stupid game mechanic that if the opposing force is willing to do can not be stopped. THE FIX: You can not build on contested land. If you control it or not you can not build. You can repair but not build. This will make attacks more fun in that you will see actual damage during the attacks and not instant wall replacements. And second, you must be on a contested spot for 5 mins to reset the time. Have one naked person just touch the edge of the spot and run off to reset is just not fun. It needs to be 5 plus mins. And last idea. If you have a spot being contested it needs to blink on the map. This is not apart of the above message but would be nice. Ally claims show up as blue on the map!   19. Thinking of making an AUS Oce server starting at 3x everything, it's going to be 20 people per server, 4x server cluster so 60 slots. With a max of 4 people per company, obviously depending on the amount of interest we gather things can change in terms of company allowance and server size etc. We are planning on doing a once a month 5x on the weekends from Friday to Monday.   20. Hi, offline raiding ships is way too easy at current state of the game. Any ship can be sunk within minutes by a sloop + cannon combo while offline. Any npc defense is easy to snipe from a distance. Bases are though but ships are weak and they need some extra protection. Suggestion: Harbors where ships wouldn't take any damage while anchored. Ship would take damage up to 1h after anchored and there would be 15-30 min preparation time before one can go sail again in which the ship would take damage. This is to prevent online fight exploiting. Harbors wouldn't take any damage while ships are anchored there. This would increase online sea fights and definitely bring a better gameplay experience.
