  1. Yes, pillar of light. Can have up to 10 equipped. You won't trigger the treasure defenders or be able to dig if you don't have it in an equipment slot - useful if you want to safely scout or prepare the area before triggering.
  2. From an accessibility standpoint, I agree with the OP, and would offer that money they plan to spend on adding Tarot would probably be better spent increasing accessibility options for people with disabilities like colorblindness and photosensitive seizure, with improvements like subtitles, auditory assist, magnifiers, and repetitive motion avoidance. Those players tend to become long-term faithful evangelists to others like themselves, and tend to be less susceptible to coercion from a demonizing sermon, lecture, or confession.
  3. I have never been stuck in one, but I do have a problem with the new zoning mechanic where it takes about 60 seconds for your wind indicator to show the actual direction the wind is going when you zone into a cyclone. Makes you seem like you are bugged out when it is actually because your sails aren't catching any wind in spite of what your indicator is showing.
  4. 50% of the potential audience is already pre-filtered out of games like this due to religious indoctrination about games, computers, popular media, science, and fiction. We are all just operating inside our our personal tolerance for things like superstition, religiosity, sex, and violence, whether that's driven by our moral compass or an external source who tells us what we need to think, it doesn't matter. I am pretty sensitive to the violence we need to inflict on animals to tame them, but it forces me to think in the first person about those things, and in this case, reinforces my convictions there. I for one am glad that most of us live in a society where very few things are pre-ordained as bad, evil, or unacceptable for discussion, and we have tools like games, books, and movies where we can experience the margins to form opinions of our own.
  5. Yes, please replace Tarot with VooDoo! I wanna Voodoo doll!
  6. Schooner with 3 rear ballistas and 200 bolts is more than sufficient for this task. I have done it with a sloop and 2 ballistas, but top speed makes that one dicier. Damage levelled galleons with one good blueprint ballista is also sufficient, and easy for the aggro polar whales. Not nearly as easy for the blues because they lose interest and dive pretty quickly.
  7. Found some on the little island in L14 the other day. Definitely still in game.
  8. Haven't seen this myself recently, but I also don't log out on ships. There have always been recurring problems with that, especially if somebody else moves it while you are offline.
  9. FWIW, the old workaround I mentioned above still works exactly as described after the wipe. The sad thing is that they did actually touch the bounding boxes on the Galleon recently which resulted in nullifying some of my old structural optimizations for reasons I cannot fathom, but while they were at it they didn't even bother to fix this longstanding bug. One step backward, one step back, it seems.
  10. To be clear, the only people who actually PAY anything in PVE are the island owners. The tenants get exactly as much from harvesting as the island owner does, and they don't have to pay an upkeep. Smart island owners make their island attractive to tenants because it reduces their taxes, and they get a bonus when you harvest. I have no idea which, if any of the tenants on our island are Xbox players, and frankly don't care. As long as they are respectful of others, that's all that matters. I am curious what is the critical thing you feel you are missing with PC peers? Voice comms? Controller handicap? Performance gap?
  11. If you are building your first galleon and you don't have a good mix of tames to make it easier, find a spot in the center of a nearby forest and build a smithy. Don't get tricked into thinking you have to cart everything back to your base to build it. You can do all the planks, decks, and ceilings right there on the spot, and then carry them to the boat when you are done. I get perverse pleasure out of carrying everything to build my ships in one trip.
  12. Your definition of overcrowded must be very different than mine. There are many whole islands without a single claim or structure on them yet.
  13. +1 Been seeing this since January. Happens about 50% of the time (to me), sometimes in chains. Haven't noticed a difference in frequency between land beds and shipboard beds. Sometimes a green map, other times a total failure as if I had died. Worst I have seen is 5 consecutive failures.
  14. They broke everything against AoTD back in May. Must use melee or bear.
  15. This was a problem that I encountered between March and May on PC, but went away eventually. The new wipe has resumed the problem, and everyone in my company appears to see the same thing, namely: Our custom keyboard remapping is reset at every login. For most of us this it is specific to unmapping the center mouse button (because most of us use that for voice comms).
  16. That has been there forever. My Titan X chokes on it every time. I think the problem is with too many transparent textures suddenly drawing on top of each other, so the number of render passes goes up exponentially until the leaves fade.
  17. An icebox can definitely be placed on a boat. Parking in the Arctic overnight will usually rack you up a couple stacks. Tundra probably 1 stack per night. This is before they raised the ice threshold temperature, so your results may vary. Be careful of the weight though. the ice weighs 1kg apiece, so leave it for a week and you will rack up literally tons of ice. Not recommended for a sloop.
  18. And ice is dramatically better for preserving. If you are in a cold climate, build an icebox.
  19. It is hard to understand what the OP and sons actually experienced in the game. Sounds like they went straight for a Galleon on PvP, and skipped everything else like diving, exploring, maphunting, taming, squad tactics against SoTD, whaling etc. I can see why a father would try to get to a single ship so that the various skill levels of his boys could be mitigated, and he wouldn't need to spend alot of time corraling the cats, but a shame that he chose PvP to try it. Other players will exploit every possible weakness, and a family unfortunately has a bunch of weaknesses to be exploited, not the least of which is a vulnerability to non-consensual combat (offlining). I wish GS did a better job of explaining what to expect in PVE and PVP for prospective players. The OP isn't the first and certainly won't be the last to have completely wrong expectations, and get too invested with leveled characters and half-built galleons before realizing what they signed up for.
  20. My relatively recent experience with maces wasn't very good. The AoD seemed to be immune to the smash feat (whereas they aren't immune to the sword crit or area swing). I think that was introduced in the nerfhammer madness back in May. The speed of the mace is so slow that without a good area damage option, I couldn't kill more than a couple before getting surrounded.
  21. I approve of this message, although the recommendation to max out maneuvering sails on a Gally, should be balanced with the quality of large maneuvering sail blueprints available. Anything less than 10% acceleration is going to be painfully slower than a galleon with a full rack of common Speed Sails. I have access to fairly good maneuverings - 27% acceleration, but until I find ones that can be crafted to over 30%, I am still running 5x Speed and 1x Maneuvering. Burrowing through a fleet of SoTD at 21 knots is significantly less hazardous than doing the same at 16 knots (or 12 knots fully laden). Their guns quite literally cannot track fast enough to even get a solution to fire, and if they can shoot, I frequently have broadsides land in my wake a full ship length behind my ship.
  22. Not always. I have been able to chain spawn them with some maps, and they last for days. They just keep multiplying if you go back. The only difference seems to be that their healthbars go gray like a normal npc when they would normally despawn.
  23. I don't disagree that they could use some kind of pre-visualization with the painter, but for the time being, I just carry a brush and a spraypainter, brush first to get the numbers right, then lock in the spraypaint numbers and go.
