  3. i think this would be too easily abused, and even if it weren't you'd still need a mighty big GM corps. even if it successfully solved the problem, which i'm unsure about, this sounds just too damn expensive. divide the islands into lots, and restrict access to the shoreline. you'd need more rivers to support larger islands with shipyards. leave free space between the lots and place all resources and treasure maps in these free spaces and the shoreline. you could enforce always having a couple lots reserved for special quests and emergent events.
  4. @boomervoncannon It means pick your poison: On one hand, you have a server operator who can and probably will enforce the most ridiculous rule changes and modifications at their own discretion, and on the other hand you have a handful of people running an unofficial server.

Oh, and coming from the top of my head when i had like 20sec spare time to think about it: Regarding the large company on small island problem: Leak them dry. Every minute a company is being in possession of a too small island, they lose 100 gold from ALL containers in that region, they do not regenerate ANYTHING while in the sector, and their ships decay at the same rate as in freeports. Basically, make small islands behave like freeports for them, only worse.
  6. Agreed. Large companies should also be disincentivized from claiming smaller islands (and thus take them away from the smaller companies they were meant for). But i don't get the impression that "incentive" is a concept on which anyone at grapeshot had a strong grasp. (Prove me wrong. Just this one time. Please...?) If too large a company claims too small an island, they should be losing stuff left and right for it, until they unclaim it again. They need to suffocate from not having enough room.

  8. Perhaps there is a blueprint of a way. Ain't that reward enough? @Elrood You can't blame the players for this. It is entirely the oversight of obvious(!) results by the devs, nothing else. You give the ability to randomly sink boats to a million people, you can be sure as fuck that somebody is going to abuse it. And the only way to prevent this, and this is a widely accepted fact, is to not give that ability to anyone. Literally anyone who had ever successfully designed a game (in contrast to barely getting your progam to compile at least and then calling it a game) knows this.

  11. it would not be a problem if the game did not chose the dumb-as-shite approach of partitioning the world in grids and allowing sotd to camp right behind the border, where you can't see them so that the earliest that you could do anything to avoid them is when they're right on top of you. this falls very nicely in line with all the other design "oversights" that take place on a regular basis. travelling takes long enough, even without halting your ship to a crawl on each and every border. how about we get the ability to see them before crossing over? say it with me: inter server communication

  13. Have you seen this movie called "pirates of the caribbean"? That's what a fantasy pirate theme looks like. Hydras, dragons, kraken, sea monsters are all fine. How many people riding some bullshit nonrideable animal did you count?
  14. You know what is also a thing in the real world: Perma death! Any idea of why that is not included in this game? Or hardly any game ever? I'll just answer this right here for you, so you don't hurt yourself: Things like that are not included in any game because they are not fun! Fog at sea is also not fun, but some nutjob thought it'd be a brilliant idea to bring that shit here. Same with mandatory tames, offline raiding and inevitable death from heat/cold/vitamins. This is a game! It HAS to be fun to play. EVERYTHING(!!!!!!!!!!!) else has to succumb to this very fact. It CAN be realistic, if that realism does not hurt the fun and playability. Overall i'd give this game a game-design score of 2/10.

Ah. the great age of fantasy piracy. where a real pirate needs a bear before he needs a ship. and a giraffe. and an elephant. basically, ships are not important, but bears are. how about getting rid of this whole half assed "pirate" theme altogether and name the game after what it really is deep down inside: A petting zoo. Excuse me. A fantasy petting zoo. Now with 50% more disney castles. Free extra lag and emergent carebear drama!
  16. see, i always carry the map in the hotbar so it lives 10.000 times longer. and i don't clear trees or anything either. lv70 bear easily soloes lv120 AoD along with any lions snakes or what have you. and worthwhile treasure maps have become so extremely rare, i am sure they're worth much more than your 700 creature disney princess stables. also, just remove this stupid taming bullshit from the game entirely please. thank you.

  18. May all your treasure maps forever be blocked by some idiot's disney castle! There is a FINITE number of spawn locations in the world. How fucking dare you selfish, antisocial troll to block even one of them from other players. If everyone thought the way you do, eventually there wouldn't be ANY spawn locations left, and NOBODY would ever be able to do any treasure maps ever again.
  19. listen, i don't do it to grief others. it is not my intention to destroy your stupid disney castle or your favorite cuddle bear. these players are using their tames as a diversion and a meat shield to their own griefing. they put their tames in a place so that it blocks other players from getting to some game content and then they're crying when it gets killed. i am just trying to do some treasures so i can get to the next level, and believe me, level 83 can already take a while. even without some asshole planting walls all around. blocking off spawns is griefing. read up the fucking rules of engagement.

You seriously think it is okay to be the reason that nobody can complete the discovery point quest just because some selfish shit for brains decided to block off "his" island? *That* is griefing. *That* is antisocial behavior And that is what should get you banned. I would very much like to play pvp, but unfortunately there is no pvp in this game, only player versus offline, so every single day begins with: Own absolutely fucking nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Everything gone. Nothing in inventory, no structures left, no ship left, FUCKING NOTHING. Punch some trees... That is not a game, that's mental illness. When at some point it dawns on you that you might sit on top of an AoD spawn and you still don't move your buildings away from there, it is entirely on you. If you don't move your pen away so that people can get to the spawn, you apparently agree with having AoD inside your base. You refuse to go out of your way by even the tiniest bit and move your buildings. As a direct result of that, i refuse to change my behavior in any way as well. As long as you don't move, i won't move either. It sounds like you are way more unhappy with the situation than i am so i suggest YOU do something about it. And by the way. YOU come to PvE, where you full well know that nobody can tear off your fucking giant disney castle taming pen bullshit. YOU still build your fucking giant disney castle taming pen bullshit that nobody can remove. YOU eventually notice that you built your fucking giant disney castle taming pen bullshit over an AoD spawn, but you won't do anything about it. But *I* am the griefer?!? Sure as fuck, buddy. GTFO

  22. So after months of exploring i finally find a blue or better map. Then, after sailing for 4 hrs straight irl, i arrive at the treasure location only to find that some guy built his fucking disney castle on top of the spawn. But hey, i guess your problem is more important than mine. Build your stupid fucking pens somewhere else! You still haven't reached level 60 i guess. It is not the treasure seekers fault that some idiot did all of the below: * built his pen on top of an AoD spawn * set all their tames to passive * is nowhere to be seen to help remedy the situation * has no fucking clue how much XP you need for the higher levels, and how many treasure maps you have to do Stop blocking the whole island for everybody else. We have to do discoveries. We have to do treasure maps. Set your idiotic pens on top of pillars for fucks sake.
  23. Well that won't be a problem any more in the not too distant future. The pitiful handful of people still playing the game can't possibly build so many ships. Maybe even in the shitfest that is known as PvP, there could be at least a few boats surviving for more than a day just because nobody found them yet.

  25. So if somebody is both stupid and poor for 5000 hours, they surely must thoroughly enjoy it, right? Are we supposed to simply hand our money to the devs and then GTFO as soon as possible when we find out that what the dev's want this game to become apparently is the opposite of what we want? I'd rather be a major pain in the ass before being ripped off like that. I am not incapable of seeing past the (numerous) things in this game that i find incredibly annoying, i am just not willing to. AND WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I?
