They clearly stated that they don't give a shit about your character and that they will not recover it. They will try to fix the bug (hopefully, at some point, for future players), but they won't spend time recovering you character. You are just a number in a lot of players, no matter if you wasted hours on it and they destroyed it with an update, they don't care. You have to farm it from scratch. Or quit the game and never look back.

After v16.14 update I was bugged "endlessly falling" on a raft. Died after a while. Tried to 'respawn at home server' 2 or 3 times, restarted client, now I'm stuck at the 'Create new pathfinder' page when I try to login. My Crewmates still see my character in the company. I'd don't think telling people to create a new character and start over after they've spent 100+ hours in game and the dev f-up an update can be considered okay...
