the large build bug in my experience is caused by

a support structure goes out 3 floors in any direction. As we all do we add another support and keep going. What can happen is the fourth floor placed gets confused about which side is supporting it. It seems that the “support check” is only done when something is destroyed or overridden(replace thatch with wood).

to combat this leave 1 foundation/floor wide gaps every so often in your build, then when all is done connect them.

That's kind of what I was thinking was happening was that the ceiling tiles that make up the 'floor' weren't registering the supports or connections on other sides.  I guess what I can do is one by one, demolish and replace every ceiling tile in the floor that isn't needed for pillar support and see if the new ones start registering and updating the support points so that everything lists as 'connected'.

  2. I believe map quality is boosted by the game difficulty.  I noticed when I played with Single Player settings the one time that map qualities spiked, along with SotD levels and other things.  So perhaps Maps only have the same levels as Wild Animals and will only appear as 1 -> 30 with increasing rareness the higher the quality.  I myself haven't seen one over quality 22.1 thus far this session.

  3. Honestly, I started playing the game on day one.  Recently I started watching a YouTube series by a fellow named Grillmastah who also started publishing videos on initial release, and the nostalgia is absolutely mind boggling.  I'm amazed at how much new content, changes, bug fixes, and optimizations have happened in the last year!  I tend to forget that the game isn't even 1 year old yet.

Compared to where ARK was after the first year, ATLAS's update speeds and content additions/fixes have been lightning quick in comparison.  I can afford them a little patience if they are neck deep in as big of a gameplay change as they were hinting at with the roadmap.

  4. I know some people in PvE build some really elaborate and huge structures.  Has anyone noticed if they changed the physics on ceiling structures for some reason?

Used to be that like ARK if you had placed a line of foundations down and then on one end used a ramp or walls to build upwards you could extend your ceiling tiles straight out over the row of foundations as far as you wanted with no issues.  This was a hold-over from ARK to accommodate some of the ridiculous base sizes and open rooms, in that the ceiling tile only checked for a connected foundation directly beneath it.

Recently on two different construction projects I've started having errors when placing ceiling tiles with it reporting that there is no foundation support nearby, even though in both cases there is a full set of foundations or pillared ceiling tiles DIRECTLY below the unit I'm trying to place.  Did they change the physics where now you can only extend a ceiling tile 7-8 tiles away from a wall support before you need to supply another wall support?  Or are my tiles just not registering that they are snapped together and even though I have a square 20x20 foundation it actually registers as 5 or 6 varying foundation shapes simply placed next to each other and not connected?

  5. I think also that the PowerStone island you did it on is one of the medium difficulty ones.  C6 and M12 are far easier with the caves being fairly close to the shore, so you have less of a chance of "followers" and an easier time naked luring anything by the cave away.  I did it the first time on D12 before the first wipe and when the Fountain moved around ... that was probably the worst time I ever had trying to make that run with Cyclops and Rock Elementals directly in front of the cave entrance.

  6. You are not required to place down a Claim Flag in order to build a base, that was the old claim system.  Just find any island with a piece of shore that you like and start building.

Simply be aware that the Company that HAS claimed the island has free rights to demo anything you place down for 24 hours.  95% of the time there is no issues and the system is more used by island owning companies to help 'clean up' the island of left-over taming traps and DP Bed spawns.  But if you want to be cautious simply try talking to the island owners OR start building out of something simple like thatch and keep your extra resources on your boats or in the inventory of your tames for the first 1-2 days.

These questions may be esoteric, but why would you bed-spam a Discovery Point and rob your own company of the fun of exploration? Why purchase a game that you are literally not going to play, but run thru like a boat drill?

Different playstyles is all.  I agree with you and also enjoy randomly sailing around picking up and doing treasure maps as I wander from zone to zone, but some people don't want to explore and just want to min/max their characters in the fastest time possible.

The part I don't understand is why do the bed spam?  I mean I get that DP raises maximum level, but you get WAY more DP from collecting the power stones and hunting each of the whale types in a much shorter time-frame.  Island DP is necessary for the quest completion but seems like the slowest and least efficient way to raise your maximum level.  Before the last wipe I had maximum level of 96 mostly from powerstones and whales, then even with my maximum raised that much I was barely slugging through the XP at level 74 and MAYBE seeing a level ding 1-2 while spamming common treasure maps for a full afternoon.

  8. Accordian.  Place Accordian and Note Sheet in the NPC's inventory, right click the accordian and tell it to 'use' or press 'E' while mouse-over it.  Then simply look at the NPC and tell it to 'E' - Play Song

NOTE:  Be certain that the note sheet is for 'Accordian' music and don't waste 10min like me trying to get them to play a War Drums song with an accordian.

  9. I don't ever remember being able to sink foundations in ATLAS.  Best I've been able to do is use a slightly lower spot to start in and use thatch foundations to kind of "walk" it over to the area that I want to build in.  Not to much though, because if you sink the foundation too much it'll clip and start reporting that it's "obstructed" which I REALLY wish they would toggle off or reduce the clipping limit.  It takes a lot of fussing, placing, picking up, remaking ... but eventually you can get it.

  10. It should also be pointed out that the crew ONLY repairs the planks on the ship.  It will not repair your decks, ceiling tiles, sails, and other structures on the ship.

The best way though to increase the speed at what a ship is repaired is to put a few points into "Accomadations" (bed icon) I believe it was.  Every point spent into that will reduce the amount that you have to pay the crew and speed up the repairs when anchored.  Generally with something like a Galleon 5-8 points into it makes a significant impact.

  11. I think someone posted it in discord the other day, it's like the first 20% does nothing but then for every 10% after that it adds +1 maximum level to your ships.  So 115% does nothing 120% is +1, 130% is +2, so on and so forth to a maximum of 220% for +10 levels.

Other things that blueprints are good for is that Armor will have increased Hypo and Hyperthermia values, increases to your weight, health, stamina and other stats.  Weapons and Tools have increased damage and Durability, and Ship/Base components will have increased durability/health.

  12. I've been both a settler and an island owner, and I can say that the system is powerful enough and shouldn't be any more powerful.  I have had bad landlords that popped my bookcases and resource boxes to steal all my shit in the opening days after the last wipe, so I do know that trolling potential is totally there even on a PvE server.

HOWEVER, as a land-owner I do know the frustration that comes with people spamming DP beds in the most stupidest locations.  People won't take the time to place them on the top of a mountain someplace out of the way, they would rather hide them under a rock on the beach blocking potential new settlers.  What land-owners need is just a better way of FINDING those things.  Perhaps something like the Flag Aura when you hold 'H' but in a different color/diameter?  Then a land-owner can once a day glider around his island and see if there is any new aura's that stand out from the previous day.

  13. Okay, I don't get the point of this post at all.  I'll admit that I am not a PvP player at all and have no interest in playing PvP, mostly because I find it heart-breaking to log in and see that my entire base was wiped out while I was offline or having to deal with aim-bots and meshers that have no interest in playing fair.

But this entire post isn't about someone cheating or fighting unfairly, it's about someone using a proper, viable, and even Lore friendly mechanic in a way to defend their stuff from you and you are calling Bull-shit?  Honestly, if anything you should HAVE to fight through the decks littered with armed crew-members and swivel gun placements to "take" a ship!  Not just blow the deck up and cause everything to demo that's attached to it.  A proper ship design should have the beds on the bottom deck and a labyrinth of defenses to get to them, because you are trying to take their stuff and they are trying to fight you off!  It should be MORE difficult to board and take a ship then it is to just cannon it and sink it, but the rewards are that you get a free ship if you manage it.

  14. If the Long and Lat are different, that means that you are not in the same place in the server.  If you are at the Freeports, be aware that each freeport sector/server is made up of 4 identical islands.  You all may be in the same place, but on different islands in the sector.

  15. I agree that the winds and current system are in need of a balancing patch.  I don't want to see an instant fast-travel system though, I feel like doing anything like that would be way to exploitable in PvP and such.  I would like to see some sort of system with trade winds and ocean currents creating some sort of "highway" between sectors and across portions of the map.  Maybe ones that just give me a 50% speed bonus with a mild bumper system so I can sort of assisted-sail a bit at 30 knots instead of 15-20.

I don't think they need to be super log and perfectly symmetrical either, perhaps each one is like 3-4 sectors and they travel in all kinds of random directions.  So much so that I'd have to kind of pick and choose which ones I want to take to get to a destination, even if it means I end up traveling past the sector I'm aiming for and have to sail back a bit.

  16. That's actually a really good idea.  I had seen a video of a person fencing a spawn point with sign-posts but that was back before you had to use tames.  Honeycombing the spawn with 1x1 rooms and splitting it into 2-4 manage-able groups is an awesome idea too.  Thanks for the tip, I may try that!

  17. Hey all,

It's been a few months since I've hung this game on the coat-rack and decided to give it some time to get improved a bit.  However a friend of mine recently picked the game up while it was 70% off and I've been kind of sucked back in and helping show him the ropes.  One of the first things I thought we'd do is gain some levels and gold by doing Treasure Maps and wouldn't you know it, we have a 19.9 quality map for the island right next door.  Let's just say that our attempt at doing it with two decent mid-level tame bears did not end successfully...

Now I know most people would say to get a couple of really nice breed bears or crabs to extract our revenge, but at this point in the game we don't have the gold to buy the quality tames needed for a map of this level.  Guns did absolutely crap against them (maybe 9dmg with a Blunderbuss at point blank), they've been buffed so you can't use grenades, puckles, or swivel guns against them.

So is my only option to do this map that I have to roll in with the quantity and overwhelm them with numbers?  Basically tame up an army of 10 bears/lions and just swarm them when they spawn?  Or is there another solution for doing high quality maps as a small early-stage company that I'm not familiar with?

  18. What hasn't been mentioned is that players can not see the auto-decay timer.  It's all internal to the servers.  Basically it's that if the ship has not been boarded or un-anchored by it's owners in I believe it's 2 or 3 weeks then it will auto-decay and disappear.

It would turn into per trolling and griefing very quickly. So the point of a PvE base turning into a state of war for X amount of time once they enter a PvP area is consequence. It is checks and balances. If someone leaves PvE to raid in PvP it opens their base and ships up to attack by anyone who flags PvP. That is the risk of changing servers.

Notice that your consequences only go one way ... PvE player travels into PvP land he gets fucked, PvP player travels into PvE land it's business as usual.  So you are punishing PvE players for the PvP players enjoyment.

Want to make it even?  PvP player sails into PvE land then all his cannons/tames/and abilities become unusable against other players and all his door locks are removed for the exact same time as a PvE players base would be become vulnerable if they were to traverse the other way.  There a consequence for sailing where you aren't wanted...

  20. What is it about PvPer's always wanting to pick on PvEer's?  You are ALL like why can't we add a safe zone that isn't really safe to try and trick PvE players to come play with us, because they don't ever put up defenses and it'll be easy for me to troll them?

Here is a thought ... reverse your entire fucking mindset.  One map, no zones what so ever.  Everyone is PvE ... meaning all bases, ships, tames, people ... EVERYTHING is PvE and un-touchable.  You want to PvP?  Fine, you can toggle an option ... after a 24 hour delay your entire tribe goes active as PvP with everything being vulnerable for one week.  The only people you can touch is other people that have flagged PvP, but ALL PvE people can interact with all your crafting stations, chests, boxes, and anything else without repercussions or being flagged themselves for that entire week.

Doesn't that sound like more fun?  I can stay PvE flagged and raid every PvP base I want without having to worry about your cannons, tribe-mates, or tames ....
