  1. That makes it worst. The only people with access to them are larger companies. One broadside of torpedoes sinks your ship. It wipes out all the planks on one side, and your decks. It is beyond stupid. To make it even worst, the torpedo boat is really light, since it isn't carrying a tonne of cannonballs and repairs for prolonged battle. So torpedo boats are going to be faster, they can sail up on you, fire one salvo of torpedoes and sink you.
  2. The structure limit system for ships needs to take into account port, starboard, bow, stern as different sections of the ship. The structure limit needs to take into account the difference in weight between different sections of the ship. If the ship weight is too unbalanced the ship gets a debuff that severely restricts its seaworthiness. Any argument about restricting variety in designs available is countered by the fact that the only difference in the handful of current designs everyone uses is what direction the cannons face. Players will always move towards the most effective designs. To encourage variance in ships we need far more ship types, each with different limitations that encourages them to be used for specific roles.
  3. Since they launched their Twitter has been where they have communicated server status, expected downtime, updates during unexpected downtime and so on. The forums are for pre-planned blog style announcements, not day to day operation stuff. The problem with communication in this case is on your end, not theirs. The information is posted, is not behind a paywall or even a free account wall. All you have to do is click on the twitter logo at the top of this page.
  4. Firearms are not suppose to be a DPS weapon you use face to face with an enemy in prolonged battle while furiously reloading. Carbines are for longer range shooting. The DPS difference is undefined, since you are not hitting with the bow at the range you want to be using a carbine. A shot to the head kills a wolf. It is a good weapon to clear the shoreline before landing, well out of range of any trouble. Flintocks are for closer range, but you swap them out after you use the pre-loaded shot. They are for spike damage on the desired target before engaging with a bow or melee. The great benefit of firearms comes when you have multiple players and are coordinating your shots to spike specific targets.
  5. I built a Sloop after the previous one was sunk in a failed experiment. Was sailing it a couple zones away for some resources, was nearly there got sunk by a damn whale. Spawn back home, mostly had materials ready to go, just collect a bit more fibre and another Sloop on the way......and sunk by a whale. I haven't tried a third time yet.
  6. The gold consumption isn't really a problem, you can get more than enough to pay for a few crew with some low grade treasure. The problem is they find ways to get themselves killed. I logged in one day to see that a Sloop had been sunk and the crew killed by a wolf.
  7. The issue is that gates are better than walls in every way. They take up far less resources for the area they cover, they have more HP than walls and they don't get in your way like walls, you just open them. Walls should be the better defensive option in terms of resources and how much of a pounding they can take. Gates should be more expensive than the equivalent area in walls and slightly more vulnerable, they should only be the best at being a gate, not being a gate and a wall. People will use them as walls as long as they are the best walls. Change that and people will stop using them as walls.
