This is a serious issue. While I can understand the concept that Freeports should not be a place to make your big ships safe, it's the new players who haven't managed to get out of a Freeport yet who suffer. The game is virtually impossible to play anything close to casually. I started in the northern Freeport of a cluster and sailed to the southern Freeport because the realistic prospects for making a base are to the south. It took me several hours of gathering pretty much everything from scratch to purchase a raft, outfit and provision it. Before I can log in tomorrow, it will all have decayed, except for the stuff like wood, fibre and thatch that easy enough to replace. Tomorrow, as I will be back at work, I won't have enough time to start all over again, purchase a new raft, re-outfit it, re-provision it. I am a couple of hops closer to an island where I can make a base, but I won't be able to go any further until the weekend. Certainly, in the early game, there is no point logging on for an hour; you need several hours to make any progress that isn't reversed overnight.
