  1. @Dollie This vod is sickening, if these people don't get banned that's even more sickening.
  2. Steam charts are a better indicator https://steamcharts.com/app/834910#1m
  3. @Uueerdo Tbh my explanation didn't make much sense to even me when I read it this morning lol, luckily 2 other more sober posters stepped in to clear up the confusion, I refer to their better explanations of my point. Basically I'm saying it's bad game design where everyone in the system loses.
  4. Your analogy is bad, in real life we earn money so we don't have to do anything (we don't want to) - we buy games to do something, for entertainment. Game theory is not rocket science, it's not real life either.
  5. If it's makes you feel any better, and I do understand your frustration with this issue, then to be fair, those without land have lost out due to this system, but those who do have land and banks full of resources have lost more, they have nothing much left to do. Gaming is about goals and achievements, your own or the process of what you can achieve with your friends. You don't buy a game and ask your little brother to play it for you and then look at the storage box with gold and resources he collected having fun with his friends and think awesome I had a really good time in the game today. The system killed the game for them more than for the landless.
  6. The tax system in Atlas is PVE is short sighted game design. It creates additional conflict for little benefit game wise. PVE players don't want conflict or they would be playing PVP. And for those who say anti tax people are only against it because they aren't the ones receiving the tax. That's ignorant and wrong. Most PVE gamers wouldn't want a passive income at all, let alone from other players. They want to actually play a game with rewards and achievements based on their own abilities - not someone else's. I can't help but think tax in PVE is just lazy game design - it works well in PVP and has a purpose but never should have carried over into the PVE game.
  7. Doesn't have to be one grid, some guy wrote a program to only open the grid you are on, and then open the next when you sail into it. Maybe these devs can't code it, but others can.
  8. This is an extremely shortsighted mechanic. Want a claim? Just place a ramshackle sloop with one npc on it with enough resources within the flag's radius and no-one else can claim while your npc is there. Want 1000 claims? Just add more placeholder sloops and fast travel around them once a day to check what is available to you. Its content I guess, it will keep some people in the game I guess. I'm not playing anymore, I'm not comfortable with the tax system in PVE. I've no idea if this is happening or not, but if I was my 15 yr old self that's what immediately sprung to mind that I would have been doing when I read that mechanic.
  9. Oh, I didn't realize they had said that. Pretty disappointed they see rent and tax as a core mechanic in PVE tbh, it goes against what I am comfortable with in a PVE game an it is by far the largest proportion of the map. Hard to ignore. Maybe I just need to concede defeat and find something else to play then. Hmm.
  10. You know there's a cooldown on beds? Just checking lol.
  11. You think all the people complaining or leaving the game just haven't tried hard enough or are too picky? There's a big problem with people claiming too much land to charge rent or tax (which is completely out of place in PVE anyway). If you haven't seen the huge swathes of empty land some people 'own' then I guess you're lucky to be on a good area of the map. Restricting number of claims is better than the current system but it can easily be cheesed. Better to remove claiming and tax altogether in PVE. Just let people build where they want if there's space. Freeports are protected resources and are intended to be visited often for trade anyway.
  12. Nice idea but I think people need land to have a base, keep animals, build ships and grow crops more than another market area. What you are creating is already provided by Freeports. With the new shops coming soon in a patch I think people will always prefer tax-free Freeports for trade and resource gathering.... and their own land to build on.
  13. Why? All servers are connected, and the guy said they have no land.. they can go anywhere.
  14. So there's just 2 companies on your island? Shame about all the other players who never get a foothold then, eh. And before you say people can rent - people don't like paying other players in game in PVE, especially when the owner can take the land back at any moment. I'm all for cleaning up abandoned structures but did you have to claim it all for yourself? And tbh I simply don't believe people were happy to come to your island to farm at 30% in a clean island, they would go to Lawless or freeports with no tax, everything is available there. Freeports are clean land, we don't need players excluding others from playing the game by designating their area another clean area. You are simply trying to put a positive spin on what you know is a far worse system than Ark for the majority of players.
  15. Yeah I know, it's not ideal, it has it's problems but in the majority of Ark official servers it works and the search for land is an easier process for new and relocating players. It's like the long boring process of taming in Ark has been transferred to Atlas as a land claiming process. Whereas taming a high level is a choice in Ark, obtaining your own land is a necessity and all other parts of the game are on hold until you are settled. It's a tedious chore at the beginning of the game with no guarantee of success when the player should be getting hooked and invested in the game. It also has clear lines, you can build or you can't, none of these I can't build on my own land problems.
  16. Tbh I don't know why they just don't revert to the Ark system and forget claiming, rents and tax for PVE only. Wouldn't be a horrendous change for most as their own buildings would become completely their own, overlapping claims or not. Plus would curb the land hoarders. Yes they could foundation spam, but like Ark, most people won't apart from a small area just around their own base. Running around, finding a claim, waiting for hours to contest it must be tedious as hell. Running around with a foundation in your hotbar while exploring and then checking if enough space for the building you want is more gamer friendly. And hearing of people losing their buildings today is pretty sad. Give people 21 days for stone, 8 days for wood and 3 for thatch. Simple system, had it's problems but it worked a lot better than this one.
  17. What a thread! After reading all this all I can say is... Rent and taxes have no place in PVE unless it's paid to the game as a resource / gold sink. Make all PVE zones lawless or restrict land claims to reasonable levels so people can only claim to play on that land, not claim to gain something from other players or restrict other player's options. Do it soon.
  18. Particularly looking forward to the daily and skill quests and improvements in that area... exciting stuff, love the direction you're taking the game in that regard. Bit irritated that u choose to 'honor' PVE companies with the largest claims though, I just know this will encourage those who wish to impress their peers to claim as much as possible on the map to get their company on the list. Seems very out of place in PVE and asking for more antisocial behavior.
  19. Maybe in the future we will get greenhouses, there is crystal in the game already.
  20. Yeah that's definitely a problem on some islands, not all though. I don't know that claimed land would be any different where this guy is concerned, someone who foundation spams large areas is not the kind of person to want anyone on his claimed land either. If the devs had chosen to go with all claimed land we could be in a very tense situation now where people simply had nowhere to go. Everyone wants space but only relatively few are getting it. Claimed land seems good in theory, but in practice it's created lots of dead, underpopulated servers where very few people rent, and few others want to rent. We just need more space, a lot more space, but I don't think we'll be getting that soon, I hope we will though as if I was the type or group wanting my own claim I'd prob already have left the game as it seems an impossibility at this point which is only going to get worse..
  21. I'd like to add my voice to those that enjoy the lawless areas far more than claimed and if anything would want it to be expanded rather than scrapped. Claimed land areas are practically barren of people and interaction. Lawless on the other hand are vibrant areas in my experience. We have many great people on my grid, chat can be very lively and there is land opening up all the time for newbies to find a place to call home. Please devs, don't even consider messing with or removing lawless, ppl asking for it just want to take a large area for themselves and exclude others - if they want to engage in the politics of claimed areas then there is plenty available to them and they should use politics to gain a foothold there, not expect new areas to open up so they can get in before anyone else. We, the PVE lawless, are happy to live close to others, with no rules, rent or taxation - just enjoying the game.
  22. You can run the whole thing on a relatively decent PC, this guy has devised a program to only open grids (or those around it) when the player is present. Very simple to set up. So there are already ppl playing offline with friends on LAN or alone. It's only a matter of time before the devs get this set up so you can simply access it from the start menu. Ark didn't have the local buttons at the beginning either.
  23. So it's not following the order on the wiki anymore? Sigh.
  24. I spent about 3 hrs at D12 trying to run the gauntlet with 100's of others. It's impossible. Gave up, awful night tbh. If I were you I'd head to the next one, D12 will be over soon.
