  1. Only things to worry about in lawless are trolls and the 4-day decay rate. I'm good with it. Some of us don't want to be someone else's subjects/tenants. Far as the trade centers go, Taxes are the very reason I'm going to encourage them built in lawless. This way, anyone coming to trade/sell won't have to worry that their transactions as far as gold/resources are taxed. Wouldn't that be messed up? You're trying to buy, for example, 100 rubies for 1k gold (just an example.) and when you two exchange goods/gold, the landlord's tax rate eats a chunk of the gold and maybe the rubies too. Nope. NOT cool. I'll set mine up in Lawless. EDIT-- Just want to add that making a trade center on a lawless won't cost the merchant/trader anything but some resources to make their stand and signs with goods/prices/contact info, and maybe the storage box or two they might need. No gold or gems to set it up But again, this is for PvE, not PvP, and in Pve, we aren't getting any player shops at all. So this is my idea for PvE to have them.
  2. We settled in lawless again. If we can't find an island that has all the same resources this lawless one does (and I can guarantee you there isn't), there is no point in claiming it. I prefer lawless. I'm not paying someone else's tax rate. I can socialize just fine without living under someone's rule, and can help/work with others to create a settlement/colony even in lawless if the right people are there. Besides, in PvE, since we don't get player shops in freeports like PvP does, I'm organizing a way to build/maintain trade centers around the Atlas so people will have a place to set up shop. In lawless. This way, any trade done won't be subject to any taxing at all.
  3. (Hey now.... I love my dinos! Lol) He is right. We could all have a LOT of fun on the creative train. Just gotta have enough ppl willing to do it.
  4. Pve servers aren't getting those. Only pvp.
  5. Its not about 'making a stand', its about giving ourselves what we want, since the Devs aren't really listening to us so much. like @Winter Thorne suggested with the mail system, and my suggestions of trade centers and such, its about giving ourselves these things. Not only because it would make some things a whole lot easier and help with socialization, but also because it gives us all something more to do in the game.
  6. This would SO help the trade centers I'm trying to put together across the Atlas.....
  7. Hahaha.... I was just getting ready to post the link to this thread to you in the other thread! LOVE your mail idea. It would be a fantastic addition.. Make sure each piece of mail is addressed correctly: company name/individual's name if applicable/region/island.
  8. I have an idea, and in order for it to work there would need to be more than just ME doing it: -- Trade Centers-- Pheonix Rising (and several other companies) is going to build in Lawless again and the island we're building on is RIPE with resources, but also very large. The center of this island has a great spot for a 'trade center' where companies could build a 1x2 stall, post a few wall signs of what they have for trade/sale, discord/in-game contact info for others who are looking to buy/trade. The reason for doing this in a Lawless area is to prevent some loophole in the taxing system on claimed islands from taxing any trade or sale, and for easier access for everyone. Might even be able to designate trade ship docks around the island so people coming in to trade have a place to anchor that won't impede companies who base there. We would also (collectively as traders) put up a 'billboard' to point people to where these trade centers are, not only on the island but across the Atlas (Trading center is in X1, y2, on these islands in the middle, for example) The use of the person to person trade system the devs are installing would help keep such trading/sales legit. -- Player-made treasure boxes -- Players/companies who end up with duplicate blueprints, or a few extra gems, or some other goods or resource that isn't really sellable or tradable, could opt to leave it in an unlocked small box in a slightly hidden spot on any island for someone else to potentially find. Why? Because it would just add an extra layer of fun to a person's discovery/exploration, and you'd be able to get rid of things you don't want/need that aren't exactly sellable either. But I would say, limit what you leave in one to one or two items. Like one blueprint and one stack of a resource, or two blueprints, or two tools.. etc. The idea is for fun and usefulness, not crazy lol -- Player-coordinated events -- If you get too bored, you could always come up with some kind of an event that other companies could participate in, but if your company coordinates it, then your company has to shell out the prize for it. Thats the only thing. Doesn't matter if its a prize in gold, rare resource or rare critter. You can even post the event here on the forums and put up makeshift billboards advertising it. The point of this is, if we want PvE our way, then we have to MAKE it be what we want. Its the only choice we have really. Any ideas you have to add, by all means, post it!
  9. Ok.... I guess PvE WILL have alliances! Somehow I missed that memo...
  10. This is true. We were in A11.. and it looks like, on the ptr, its still a lawless region. I think we are going to rebuild on the same island there (hope its still lawless on PvE too) and call it good. Maybe we can get some neighbors who are also friends, although with no ability to alliance, thats going to screw shit up. As I was just saying in another thread, we all can make the choice to make PvE what we want, ya know: Create our own player shops, make our own trading system, people who have resources or blueprints or goods they don't need could always put them in an unlocked storage box tucked away on their island somewhere so that someone else exploring might find it (just as some whimsical "oh.. look at this" kind of thing), and I'm sure there are many more ways to make PvE what WE want. I guess we'll see. So if anyone wants to be friendly neighbors in A11 on PvE after official release of 1.5, let me know Might even be interesting in merging companies at some point down the road, just to have more of us working to make good shit happen. We're Pheonix Rising in game. (at least we are unless my tribesman comes up with something else stellar for a name lol) And PR could always be bigger. Not to divide and conquer, but create.
  11. I appreciate that they've added new quests and such, and while I'm not happy about how you get the sub, At least its not super easy to get either. As far as their new revamp on what PvE will be, I'm on the ptr and I can already tell there will NOT be enough land to claim. I feel like they are forcing people to have to build on an island owned by someone else, not understanding that a lot of us will NOT do that. We don't want to Lord over anyone, nor do we want to be Lorded over, either. We just want to do our own thing, and trust me: We will all find a way to do just that. I, personally, won't be forced into anything. Or I simply won't play this game. The trade thing: How disappointing. They've killed trade on PvE. But I guarentee you if we all work together, we can find a way to circumvent this, and do it our way. We just gotta make a stand. It won't be exactly how we want it, but it doesn't have to be what they have planned either. Land: I'll build in a lawless region or live off of my ship LONG before I live under someone else's rule. Period. Exploration: Wouldn't it be fun if some companies took blueprints and such they don't need, and just left it in a little unlocked storage box hidden on islands for others to find? At least then when exploring an island for discoveries, it would add an extra element. Point is, We CAN turn PvE into something WE want, but we would all have to work together to do it. We'd have to literally and figuratively 'make a stand', and show the Devs what we want. And even if they don't notice, at least we're finding a way to do it on OUR terms. ya know? They want 'neighborhoods'.... well then... lol
  12. I have to +1 on the part where there is already so many islands claimed. But I think limiting claim flags to so many per company based on number of members would have been much better. I know you Devs think differently, but there are a LOT of us out there who have NO desire to live under someone else's rule, and we won't. We'll build in Lawless again first. We can get along fine with our neighbors without making us subjects under a ruler. As it stands now, When this goes official (not just PTR), there will once again be no land left to claim that will be worth having. There are too many islands out there that have wood and stone, but no fiber. Fiber and wood, but not stone. Lots of rock, fiber, trees, but strangely no berries. Undesirable islands that have little to no resources.... and I'm not claiming one of them just to have a place of my own. Its pointless. I'm telling you, you can't force people to live under someone else. We will find a way to NOT do it. Or we won't play your game. Not trying to be a bitch here. Just trying to get you to HEAR what we're saying. There is NOT enough land to go around, and that fact will NOT force a lot of us to be ok with living on someone else's land where they can destroy everything we have just because they don't like us, or don't like our build, or some other nonsense. And that kind of thing WILL happen, I guarentee it. And before anyone recites that a land owner had only a 12 hour window to destroy your stuff, let me remind you they can STILL box you in, gate your ships, and pillar/foundation your spot to force you out, leaving you to have to abondon everything you just worked for because you no longer have any access to it. Ijs......
  13. we're in A11, where we lived before the wipe, and we know for a fact it rained a lot there, but now, no rain at all. and our water barrels aren't filling, either. But... in same region, we've also had the day/night cycle jump from sunrise to after sunset/dark, too. Very weird. And being near a fire isn't always helping stave off the cold, where it did before.
  14. Yes, this is rather annoying. Although, to be fair, You gotta be careful with this. The foundations and could be made to curb respawn of flora and fauna in a 1x1 radius around, but with our luck some troll will use that to their advantage and we'll wake up one day to a mountain of foundations instead of metal and crystal and such.... Personally, Id take my chances. it really does bugger up a good build when you have trees and brush respawning in the middle of it.
  15. Things we have noticed so far in A11: No rain? We lived on A11 before, same island, and it rained. a lot. Now there is no rain at all. I've heard several others in game say the same thing. Silent tool-swinging: There is no sound at all when swinging your harvesting tool, and only a 50/50 chance there are sounds when actually harvesting anything. We've seen the day/night cycle jump from sunrise, to just past sunset, the time of day go from 6am to 10:30 + pm. Its crazy. So the day/night cycles have a flu bug. Some few things in the smithy are listed under the wrong folder. the SotD are spawning in like rabbits breeding.... There are so many in some regions that you almost can't dodge them. Soooo many shipwrecks... Can you turn down their spawn rate some? They're cool... no mistake... but too many. The 'packs' are forming alliances, which are becoming major gangs, and throwing gang signs just before they sink you with their super-cannons bought with drug- gold from some third-world arms dealer out of the southern trench. And I'd swear I heard gansta rap.... js Ok. Thats all I have for now. If we find anything more I'll post it.
  16. Ok everyone at my job just called the psych ward on me cause I just burst out laughing like a nutcase
  17. That not a recipe for havoc. That's the recipe for food poisoning
  18. Oh. Shit. I hope I have the room on my hd. Damn I have GOT to get a new hard drive
  19. They just posted on twitter that they haven't even 'began to cook a release candidate' yet, so it would be 'several more hours' for the launch. Idk guys... I'm so discouraged. I don't even know why I want to try it to be honest. Whats the point? By now I'm playing other games, and as much as I liked Atlas, so much time has passed I'm almost just over it. They should never have went so long between their 'we're wiping you' and the actual release of anything. I don't think these devs realize what they've done. And their ideas for the pve claim system suck. No one wants to live under someone else's thumb, let alone pay their 'taxes'. We get enough of that shit in real life in the form of tax season, rent/mortgages and all of the taxes paid on everything we buy. Who wants that crap in a game, too?
  20. Exactly. Granted, the owning company only has the first 12 hours someone builds on their island to demolish, but then after that, make no mistake, if they miss the demo window they can simply box you in, gate your ships in, all that. Having to live under someone else's thumb is NOT 'freedom'. Its king/serf, and I'm no serf. That is NOT why I bought this game. I bought this game to be queen of my own castle, not pay (literally) for someone else's.
  21. Not that I'm some expert, because I'm not.. at ALL...I have been in the dev kit for Ark, and I've an ark map about half way done, so I at least have a good idea that what I'm about to say is accurate. A game designers job is to make an environment that the players will want to continue playing. Not what THEY would play according to whats easy for them or what they think... because most of them I'm sure don't even play their own game. Not as just a regular player like we do. Even if they tried, they have a very biased opinion because they coded it. No, the REAL opinions they should be going on are ours. The actual player of their game. Its easy to sit back and say "well we just don't know what they're going through..." and "they could have huge plans we'll all just love in the end.."... I used to defend them too. I used to be one of the first ones to give them the benefit of the doubt. After all of this though, not the wipe but the way the HAVEN'T listened to us about the claiming system, I just can't make excuses for them any longer. There comes a point in time when you have to step back and take a larger look at things, and I did. And what I see is a dev team that only hears 'we want a change to [insert thing to be changed here]' and thats all. They didn't hear us say HOW. Or they didn't care. To me, it looks as if they enjoy creating conflict even on a PvE server. They need someone to oversee their PvE side, who has PLAYED PvE, and who KNOWS how PvE should be. Not someone who only really likes PvP, because then all they do for anything outside of PvP will still be flavored with conflict, or the potential for it. They are knowingly creating passive-aggressive PvP in a PvE environment by leaving ways open for asshats to come in and be... well.... asshats.
  22. Yeah but those of us unlucky enough to be forced to build on an island already claimed will have to pay 'taxes' to the 'owning company'. And I'm sorry, thats just wrong
  23. No, a wipe occurs when they wipe a server with all of your stuff on it. They gave everyone a chance to move off of the server and save their tames/stuff before they did it. Not the same.
  24. So long as they add new quests every few months, PvE will remain interesting. I do get what you're saying. Its going to be up to the devs to care about PvE though, and THAT is the entire problem; they don't seem to. I mean, if I were designing the PvE side of this game, this is what I'd do: - limit claim flags to 1 flag per 5 players in a company, with a hard cap at 25 flags. This would leave more than enough land for everyone. - Add new quests every few months, with one or two requiring more than one company to undertake, just to give companies a reason to seek out parties and work together. These would be events you have to seek out or search for, not something that spawns in randomly as an immediate threat. - reinstate alliances, but limit them to 3 per company, so mega tribes can't grow into 'governing asshats'. - Set up gathering areas with mini hunts and declare one or two islands as 'pirating zones', so some players could go be the pirates they want to be without including companies who don't wish to participate. - create different 'world' events or 'region' events that would require a co-op effort to neutralize or destroy, and they would spawn in randomly, giving an equal amount of loot to whomever participated in the event on a company-scale (vs individual). I'm sure I could come up with more ways.... this was just off the top of my head. What Grapeshot needs is to hire a new sub-team of people who do nothing but deal with and work for the PvE side of Atlas. I just wish they would actually do this. I know they are all PvP oriented, but by being so focused on one play-style, they are blowing off the other and shooting themselves in the foot in the process. I could also see making armies of the damned (2-10 npcs in a gang) roam resource-rich areas like wild animals do, as something you'd have to defeat to be able to reach the resources you want to mine. Not all resources. and not in every area. Just in a few of them. There ARE ways to make PvE a very cool play style. And this is all something that PvP could do as well, and since the threat of war/being wiped/being attacked is always present, would add to the whole 'experience' of Atlas. This is a nice thought. Honestly. If this were the case, a bit of an explanation from the Devs is needed at this point, because it would assuage a lot of people's apprehension with this new system they are putting in place. I mean, they aren't saying anything else. They aren't giving us even a HINT of what they plan for the future, nor anything to indicate they even actually CARE about PvE play-style. *edit* The way the Devs are behaving with this game, the lack of explanation of why they are choosing what they are, or their future plans, the lack of attention they give to PvE.... its making them look like very lazy coders. Its like they don't want to have to write the code necessary to make this game what it could actually be: a true MMO with enough of the RPG in it to keep even PvE people busy all the time and not just provide what becomes a monotonous environment over time.
  25. Here is my problem with what you said: Our experience in the game IS WHAT MATTERS. WE are the ones who play it, WE are the ones buying it, WE are the ones who make or break the game in the end and the developers hold the power to sway that either way. How is it a good idea to have one tribe own an entire island and leave others to be forced to pay taxes to them just to have a place to build? That might be ok in PvP, but in PvE? This is a sticking point for a LOT of people, who seem to have resigned themselves to being a tenant or stop playing Atlas alltogether. What you said may sound reasonable to your ears, and indeed to some others, but in reality, what the devs are doing with the claim system won't work. I truly hope that when they release the PTRs, we all get on there and show them just how bad of an idea their new claim system will be. Its the only way to show them, but I also fear, as much as some of us have seen the way they cater to PvP and care so little about PvE, it won't matter even if we prove it doesn't work. Even if they see the passive-aggressive way people can PvP in a PvE server using loopholes and such, I think they'll be ok with that. Ark PvE is proof of that. What it means, when it comes down to it, is Grapeshot and Wildcard don't actually have PvE servers at all. They have outright PvP, and then they have 'mild' PvP. True PvE wouldn't leave room for anyone to use any passive-aggressive means to run companies or people off of 'their' land, nor grief them by boxing their base in, gating their ships in, or pillar/foundation spamming their area so they can't expand. The 'upkeep' won't deter larger companies. They'll have the manpower to harvest the resources necessary to do it. To be clear, I'm not trying to be a doomsayer or negative. I'm a realist. While not everyone will act like this or be this way, there will be enough people who WILL to ruin people's 'experiences' in Atlas, and the devs just don't seem to care.
