  1. You guys have never taken part in an 'epic' battle in EvE online? Oh you can click on a turret, and perhaps take the mrs for a meal out, pop in to the local supermarket on the way back, drop in to starbucks for a coffee... Perhaps get home, mow both front and back lawns, wash the car, do some housework, and finally crack open a beer or 5, watch the trilogy of Lord of the Rings, slope back to your PC, and the turret is only 50% recharged after the first shot. It's like the whole game is being directed by John Woo. They call it time dilation, I call it a croque of shit. I think it's a hurdle all MMO's suffer from, and the more complex, detailed the game is, the more it shows. Atlas has so much customization when it comes to boats, everything has to be rendered. I'm glad they're not going the 'croque of shit' route. lol
  2. I know in PvE, SotD do not attack anchored boats. We had a schooner vanish, with the same message in log: removed from company. Why, we do not know. I don't have time to play during the week, but I do log in on a Wed to restock the food on the boats. Fingers crossed that so far the bigger boats have stayed put.
  3. Well we had the same, gentlemans agreement with islanders that we'd respect each others space... then a company, ignoring all chat, came in, planted foundations everywhere, locked everyone in for months... then all of a sudden, the timers reached zero, so we went on a bulldoze. Demolished every foundation near us. Now each company has once again their own space, and we believe (we have no proof), that the company in question got a temporary ban, but sinister enough for their 10 day timers to lapse, giving folks a chance to make good the damage. Now I'm not saying it was the dev / GM team... it could be pure coincidence. But coincidence or not, we took it, and now things are (should I say) calm. Hang in there, watch the timers on the spam... you never know, you may experience some coincidence of your own Feel for you @WILLIAM It's sad gameplay. Hope that it gets sorted for you. Hang in there.
  4. I think red means that your taming is in a state of decay, and feeding it will continue the taming process. Red in my experience is just an advisory that you're taking too long between feeds. Are you using one of these old hat 'traps' ? Don't, just go free, and use a bear to attack / damage the Elephant, use a bola from on top of the bear, and you'll end up with a free 360 degree circle around it to feed from, you'll be able to find that sweet spot, and, the elephant wont be frantically attacking the walls of the trap, which will make feeding it even easier.. Your success rate will be far far higher. PS & Edit, if you don't have a bear, then stand on a high rock, and bow it instead.
  5. @Voodoo I second the OP! Remember this? You rescued Grizzly for me (wedged / glitched in the side of a mountain behind someones ramp)... Still haven't forgotten. You sir, are valued hero.
  6. You make it sound so simple!
  7. There you go, knew I wasn't going mad... Just now, Schooner, strong wind, no storm 22.05 kts. (25% full) ...means at ~50% weight (assuming 90% of speed), this baby bird does +20.25 kts. It's not called the "HMS Gilmour" for nothing !
  8. Argh dont! Some people literally died preparing for these 40 man raids. We all remember Snowly https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-368088/Gaming-world-mourns-girl-virtual-funeral.html This is what happens when game devs make games 'challenging' to the point of ridiculous. Snowly died prepping for the BWL raid, and devs had created such a monster 'dungeon' that saw players farming material for potions etc days became a necessity. I burned out at the end of the Wrath of the Lich King, never looked back, I now couldn't bring myself to do any of it again. Everything for me now has to be solo, or accomplish-able solo. Doesn't make me a snowflake, it makes me sensible. Defending Atlas, everything can be done without doing crazy prep. Loads of excellent players have open invites for Kraken, for the Ice caves, powerstones etc. No one has to look further than a small reply on forum to join in, and tag along, without the compliance and stringent set of Ts&Cs that come in with being someone elses slave. Atlas is ok.. it's got the middle ground.
  9. Yeah it's a self-perpetuating circle of cheese. When I first clicked on spawn, it was super early after the wipe. Had an entire coastline to myself. Build a house, shipyard.. all was good. A few days later, a sloop arrived, parked on our shipyard, a naked dude jumped off, didn't say a word and built a taming pen RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR HOUSE DOOR! I asked him to remove it... ignored me. I kicked myself for not putting down foundations. He built a temp tannery, and just buggered off and left it. It's still there now. Both eye sores. We have build up around them, but to have this crap permanently in our courtyard is just plain annoying. To prevent more of this tosh, I personally planted a couple of foundations around main base access points protect ourselves, then someone else on the island spread out like some kind of virus, locals complaining of being 'encircled and cut off' by foundations, then progressively along the empty beach where we were... I immediately retaliated, and got in there first, and lo-and-behold in came the spam right up to where I had foundationed myself. Had I not done that, they would have ringed around us, and prevented us from any possible expansion... Likely in a bid to grief us off out space....... So from a clear empty beach, and someone mindlessly building infront of our doors, to someone else spamming, forcing us to protect ourselves with our own spam, that entire beach is inaccessible, as is 80% of the island. Self-perpetuating circle of cheese.
  10. Eve online has to be a contender for the greatest loss experienced in a game to date, it's too much of a life-hog for people with a family and long hours etc. We lost a POS with about a year worth of play, moved and abandoned to casual play in high sec (which is such a taboo in EvE)... Some people have no sympathy at all, others acknowledge that the loss doesn't serve the crime. Others are neutral. The same was with Elite Dangerous, where people in a few million cr ships are able to project losses of tens of millions to victims of attacks (this saw a mass exodus to PvE), and it's been a bone of contention ever since. Genuinely I think it will never have a solution. As PvP needs players to work, chasing players away with wonky mechanics favoring gang bangs (excuse the expression), does wipe out the chance for the old fashioned Joe Bloggs that plays 3 times a week for a few hours. I guess you can never please everyone, and the hardcore want things harder, and the super casual players just want mechanics that throw them a life vest.
  11. That would be funny, ignore fountain of youth and end up like Barbossa! I do wonder about undead crew though, i think even they were slightly more expensive, yet didn't need to eat, may be tempting. Tarot is interesting, though. Interested to see what becomes of that idea.
  12. lol, sometimes I think being able to fart into a sail may overcome some of the dead wind situations sometimes. Fart projecting has to become a skill at some point.
  13. Remember that animals are bigger, stronger and have natural abilities which give a variety of animals the equivalent status as tools in a toolbox. If a rhino is better at beating up rocks, then it's going to be better than a dude with a pick, or if a giraffe is naturally a thatch snatcher, then it'll be better than a dude with a pick. If you have a group of undead skeletons with maces, a thick skinned 800 lb honking bear with shredding claws, is going to be better than a dude with a club. I just think of tames as tools from a toolbox. Players have the ability to do everything, but master nothing. Imagine how ridiculous the game would be to have players stronger than a bear and faster than a horse and strip thatch like a giraffe and fell trees like an elephant and put out more melee damage than a lion and crunch stone better than a rhino...... Could let players fly like a bird and have more life than the Kraken I guess :D THAT SAID If mankind were again top of the food chain by use of tools, then i could get that a dude could be tougher than a 900lb bear if he wore Kevlar armour... or he could fell trees better than an elephant, if wielding a chainsaw, or, put out more damage than a lion if wielded a 50cal bolt action sniper rifle.... or do more AOE damage than a pack of bears if armed with frag grenades. Depends how far we want to 'evolve' our atlas toons. There's something appealing about NOT being top of everything, yet, using any and all resources to fulfill tasks as optimal as one sees fit. I guess not a lot compares to a full broadside from a galleon Admittedly never tried that on a beach treasure map!
  14. Ahhh don't , i can imagine it would make my eyes and brain bleed! 40 Chinese!? You have more patience than me I can imagine now: So, guys what's the plan? 𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫 huh? 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫 What? you want me to attack the head? 𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫 𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫 noob 𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫! aaaarghhhhhhh You have my respect Elena, sorry it was under these conditions Wish you fair seas, happy sailing AND kick that Kraken / snowman ass for me. Grapeshot: two take homes: 1) Language specific sub forum pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! 2) Fix the 𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫𛚫𛚫 𛚫𛚫 or, replace with coffee cups! As for everyone else reading this: There IS NO TLDR, just an apology and respect
  15. Amongst the 14 pages of Chinese spam, any post that made absolutely no sense got the same kind of reply. Think i wasn't the only getting utterly frustrated at pages and pages and pages of nonsensical 'stuff'. As it happens, your post was also lost in all that bombardment. I'd show you the posts if they still existed, think they were blanket deleted, but if it just had any indication that you were looking for a Russian Kraken run, not trying to sell some fake Norwich university degree certificate (which the majority of other posts were doing), then ofc I'd have respected the post. I'm trying here! bear with me, and for the lords sake hope this translates.. Похоже, что я изначально разочаровал других атласов, когда писал ответы на идиотский китайский спам. Не было обид. Я достаточно мужик, чтобы признать, что должен быть более осторожным, и убедиться, что у меня есть кофе перед посещением форумов. Pre coffee / post coffee.
  16. You're a genius. Catapult and glider... Interesting combo! I also forgot that one can do this !!!
  17. private server right? Damn, I'd swim from one corner of the atlas to the other for a 72 wild bear lol
  18. Then you have greatly over reacted, and we have an interpretation issue. Trying to google translate something from phone browser is the dog. Your English is perfect, all you had to add was (Russian request for Kraken), done, done and done. No more needed. Lets everyone know, and everyone understands. Time to move on
  19. I most definitely do not mind other languages, but on a forum dominated by English, it would be pleasant to open up the invite to other people, and have a little one liner to politely say that it's a kraken run for [langage] players. Having a wall of symbols, can come across as a bit condescending, knowing that no one can read it other than a very 'exclusive circle'. I'm sure lots of people around the atlas world would love to join any Kraken runs going, and yes I dare say I'd help anyone wanting to do it as well. No offense meant btw, I love my Russian and Belarusian colleagues, they're awesome. Sorry for sounding abrasive.
  20. Always thought that speed sail should only be like 10% quicker than the others. Handling sail 90% speed of speed sail, with advantage of catching winds at mad angles Weight sail 90% speed of speed sail, with advantage of increasing weight capacity of the hull That way it's not going to be meta meta meta. It would allow variety.
  21. That's a good point though.. No one will demolish their masterwork speed sails. Which leaves the cargo container as the only option.. and since it kills your speed if it's full or not, then the only time to use it would be when you need it, and build it on demand when complicated math decides you're at the break-even point. I'm one to just play the game, not sit with a scientific calculator working out, speed / weight / container optimization ratios when I think I can get 0.0001% more speed with a cargo rack. Maybe I'm just grumpy after all
  22. I'm not even prepared to sacrifice speed in PvE ! I'd rather carry less, than sacrifice 40% speed. When 7 SoTD spawn in front of me (regularly), I'd rather be at 19kts, than 12, speed is safety!
  23. Still cant justify either. They permanently slow you down, regardless if they're full or not. Weight sails slow you down permanently, regardless if you have the weight or not. Cargo racks slow you down permanently regardless if they're full or not. The only true way to optimize is to carry a weight sail in your cargo, until you need it, or, carry mats for a cargo rack in your cargo until you need it and build it. To have a boat with permanent weight sail, or, cargo rack is just speed suicide. (yep it's all about speed). I would have designed it so that a cargo rack simply reduces the weight of items in it by x%. Done. With the penalty of not being able to access until you anchor. Uncomplicated, and useful. Ship speed etc would just be calculated on the net weight of the boat, with the goods in the cargo rack benefiting from a weight reduction, if feeling sadistic, would have made it like the resource box with a huge max limit, but given it 2 slots to encourage careful choice of materials in there. The way the cargo rack is now, is that you're paying a penalty in lieu of it being used, regardless if you use it or not. Unfortunate.
  24. Then you and I get different numbers.. I had half weight in gems, I know this as we attempted to build a sub and needed three types of gem. On way back, bounced off ~19 most of the way until we hit a deadzone, with barely a whisper of wind, and went down to 12kts All I'm trying to figure out, is, what would make a bigger difference to boat effectiveness (speed) a weight sail or cargo rack. I'm thinking the diminishing returns & penalties of cargo racks would ultimately hit speed more than a weight sail... I fear that it's better to still not carry stuff, and let speed by the ally, rather than play all merchant ship and load up with either and be strangled of 40% speed.
  25. I have a screenshot of doing ~20.5 kts in a storm. 19 is fairly regular.
