Was able to get it moving by sailing another ship out and ramming it.
-
Jumped off my ship to recruit some SOTD crew and when I got back on the sails will go up but can't turn the ship or move. I have tried logging off and back on, dying, and fast traveling and so far nothing has worked and my ship is stuck in the middle of O8 PVE-NA cheat TP O8 -18330 -308337 498

If your flag has been removed you should have your company points back and be able to place it on a new claim.

There is one on O8 on Clareway Skerry I believe on the NE side. I visited last weekend but no one was around at the time, looks like it is still a work in progress they did have quite a few animals for sale didn't see much in the way of items or resources though.

There are several claimable islands that have been pillar or foundation spammed that I have stumbled across and the thought has crossed my mind; Why keep paying the upkeep on an island when you can just spam the entire thing and then even if someone claimed the island they couldn't build anything on it. There definitely needs to be a way to clear inactive structures from claimable islands but the raze option was ridiculous and at a minimum needed to have the ability to whitelist companies, be limited to inactive companies, or limit it to only the previous owners structures. There also needs to be a way to combat pillar and foundation spamming, I know when we administered Ark servers it was almost a full time job removing old foundations and structures and the occasional foundation/pillar spam that players left behind so I'm not sure what the fix is other than some sort of ticket system where you can submit a grievance that can be handled by an admin/moderator but even that can be exploited and is a giant PIA to deal with.

I agree crafting and wearing should be two different skills/unlocks there really should be a dedicated crafting skill tree that allows or the making of items but the ability to use those items should be a given and like I said previously higher quality items should be level gated at a minimum. I agree on not making them end game quest unlockable but I do like the questing aspect and it gives more incentive to get out and do something rather than just grinding treasure maps until level gate is achieved.

I like that a lvl 10 player can’t join a large company and walk around in a mythical plate armor set and ride a tiger into battle, but I hate that I have to spend a significant amount of skill points just to wear or use them. Maybe a better system would be to unlock them similar to the TEK gear in Ark by achieving a certain level or as a reward for completing a quest and if the latter was implemented make it a combination of both to keep it from being exploited.

What purpose would this serve? Other than allow you to fast travel all over the map with your gear on.
-
This would be much better if you could at least whitelist companies instead of wiping everything.

Giraffe is best for thatch. The Bear will collect thatch but only from specific plants like cattails along the shore or red bushes on some islands.

Ship of the damned camping on the edge of grids ?

Generally the only way they hit one plank is if you are sailing in the opposite direction at a slow enough rate that as you pass by each cannon on the Gally fires and hits the same spot I’ve had it happen a couple of times to my brig on the lower lvl ships I can take a couple volleys but I’m sure the higher lvls could take a plank in a single pass on my brig but a gally might be able to take a couple since they have double the hp. Otherwise they shotgun the hits and they tend to target your middle/rear sails so you really have to pay attention to sail health. -

I do the same on my Gally never have come close to being worried even when crossing into a ruins server and being greeted by the sound of cannon fire from two red Gallys before my screen even loaded in by the time it did they were behind me and out of range. I can see it being an issue if you are heavily loaded and the wind is low where you may not be able to out run them or may take enough sail damage before you can get out of range then can’t out run them which just happened to me while fighting a group that had a lvl 35 gally got all of them downed but the gally with my war brig when I lost a plank and tried to put some distance between us so I could repair and discovered that the gally was as fast or faster than I was so it continued to pound me while I repaired. Ended up losing two more planks and had to pucker up and engage it before I ran out of repair mats. It had destroyed 75% of my structures on my deck already. Floor under my helm was down to 1k. SOTD present a risk but for me it adds to the fun and challenge of playing this game. Sailing is boring enough if you remove all the risk it would be even worse. I think most of issue people are having is not keeping your cool when you start getting hit and losing focus on maximizing your speed to out run them and not carrying extra planks or repair mats for when things go wrong. As far as the fleets of SOTD they really didn’t change anything for me out running them is just as easy as when it was one. Engaging requires a little more finesse to kite them or you can choose the brute force method sit in the middle till they are all “deader” but in the end it’s much more fun to engage a group than it was to sail across the ocean while you match speeds and pound on one with a single cannon sloop. -
SoD fleets are a bad idea that needs to go away

I have had zero issues with SOTD, if I don’t want or have time to engage I turn with the wind and outpace them in a few minutes. If I have good wind I’ll attempt to avoid a broadside collision but other than that I sail right through the middle. The galley has almost no chance to avoid them. I Once broadsided a red galley and as it slid past my ship it fired and all of the cannons hit the same two planks resulting in one being destroyed and the other leaking. I always carry spare planks and a hammer so I had the damage repaired before I was even out of aggro range and continued on my way. Had this been a smaller ship it would have been a little hairy but they are far more maneuverable so I would have been able to avoid or at least reduced the number of hits I took. The fleets at least make it a challenge with the singles I was taking out Red ships with a sloop and s single cannon on the rear. Once I had it Aggro’d and following I adjusted my speed and distance then watched YouTube or surfed the web for 5 minutes waiting for it to die. With the large cannon limitations and the fleets I have to adjust my strategy at each encounter and the difficulty has gone up significantly although you can still kite them to divide and destroy rather than take on 3-5 at once. -
We also discovered that taming with a partner and switching off every two bola cycles allows us to feed without the tame attacking us. Your partner needs to stay clear when it’s your turn to feed and vice versa.
