People assume that every landscape change demands a complete wipe.  It doesn't.  They could change every island in the game and still preserve the character data.  They could set aside one unchanging zone for "refugees" and allow everyone to load up a galleon with whatever they want to save and park there while the change happens. Something similar was done before when new islands were added.  The message went out to clear out of those areas ahead of time and people did.  If they are only changing 10 islands in the game, they could give those island owners plenty of notice, allow them to get all their important stuff out of the way, and reset the claim for them after the change.  They still have to rebuild, but it's much less painful to do that if the char data, the claim, and some possessions are retained.   It's even less painful if there are good neighbors pitching in with mats to help.    (And that's the sort of thing that builds community in games)  NPC islands are a landscape change and don't demand a full server wipe in their own right.  Any of the above can be done to bring in NPC islands.

People also assume that crossplay would demand a wipe.  That's pretty silly.  The advent of crossplay is nothing more than an influx of new players.  An influx of new players doesn't demand a wipe.  Presumably that's going to happen over the entire lifespan of the game.  Is it going to get wiped every time there's a Steam sale?

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any single change significant enough to require an entire server wipe of the landscape, the character data, and all the possessions, except server mergers.

They are headed for another wipe and that is a good thing. When the officials wipe most private follow. Ark was just the opposite and took greif for being buggy when infact it ran and runs real smooth. This is VIRTUAL reality guys stop being so attached to what you have when playing a game in development. You were told if you bothered to read that loosing things would be part of development. Can only hope that GS unlike WC does what is best for the game and forgets what those that are unqualified to make the decisions want. You buy into the game not the company and therefore you are afforded no control at all how things are done.

Ah so now I am getting what is really going on.....yeah there is a wipe incoming. Just except it and know you have NOTHING to do with the decision. Again you bought the game not control in development or the company. So those that are toxic at heart need just move on. Most of you hate the game yet have so many hours......curious how that is.

They did not expect to upset to active parents. Husband had to get to court but I promise he is not done with this either. We take parenting serious and try to teach our kids. Eventually this moderator and his buddies will learn this. Feel free to stick around and add to this conversation. This is how you effect change. Considering Dick also happens to be a NAME banning for use of the word alone should not be allowed. Dick Van Dyke show was very popular back when kids still had respect for adults.

There are many parents that shower kids with anything they want rather than using NO. That is a shame but I can not effect what other parents do. Many of my friends share my opinion. Just because we allow our kids to play video games does not mean they should be subject to such immature behavior. If we all stick our head in the sand and do nothing then what do we leave the kids? At what point do you take your head out of the sand? Will it be too late by then? I have always had more of an old school way of thinking. I grew up with values and taught to respect all adults equally. If i was out playing and the neighbor told me to stop doing something I did not use foul language and tell him off. I did as he asked because he is an adult and usually they know better. Today we teach kids run and tell if they get picked on. Show no respect to anyone. Do as you want because in the end what can your parents do to you? Well my kids know that if they do wrong I will handle it. No one will get to interfer in that. So therefore my kids RESPECT me. Sure they get out of line but I am there to snap them back really hard. This is why you do not see my son posting much. Last time I snapped him back he felt that for some time. See his Xbox One with all 100 games were given to a local shelter. He was made to sit there and teach the kids how to hook it up and play the games. Then we left.

First off if parents do not give the kids the money for such foolish things then it all goes away. Though you see it as gambling I see it also as teaching the kid the value of a buck. They can spend all their money on that loot box for one game or save and get a whole new game. As a parent you pick your battles and win some without the kids knowing you won. My parents would be  rolling in their graves if they were reading some of the crap people thinks is appropriate and respectful behavior in public. Was a time you did not even use that language in the presences of a lady. Though at one time more parents would be involved in something like this. Though it has only been here for what hour or two?

Well aware of where I am starting things and how many will see this. Most important people to see this I am sure will see it. Then they will see the tags they got on discord alerting them to the behavior in question. At that time those people will likely deal with the situation. It is called respecting the company to make them aware of things before you go big. Keeping it in house means they can deal with the situation and acknowledge the issue and take steps to prevent it or minimize it. Sure you are not going to clean up the language 100% but people need to learn how not to behave and keep in mind others use public forums as well. Also they have the rules in place to prohibit the behavior. They need to know that things are not being done to keep people in compliance with those rules.

Sometimes you do not need a hammer when a pen will do twice as much.

Do not know how to respond to such ignorance. There is no abuse of public opinion. Thing is in time more parents will pick up on what is going on. This is not the only game communtiy that markets to kids but then ignores the very rules they set because it is easiest to do. This thread gives the inhouse parents an awareness of things. It will serve to let the PR people for this company know what is coming. If this thread fails to resolve some basic issues then I will move on to where more mature adults/parents will see things. Twitter seems to be popular for this company. It is one thing to allow toxic behavior on their servers as that is harder to monitor. When you have a concerned active parent pleading for some moderation and nothing becomes of it, then something needs to be fixed.

This will not the first developer to have to deal with this. If parents started to crack down and not allow their kids to buy these games, companies like this will no longer exist. That is a clear fact.

I do not know what studies you speak of that show people that do not know how to speak in public correctly are smarter than others? Does the forum have issues with bahavior like the discord? Below is on statement of many of not only disregard for rules but attacking a parent that cares enough to say something. Meanwhile this Bunny moderator(who before I realized there was a color code did not seem to be a moderator) sits there and disregards use of language such as words like FUCK. Guess it is okay to use the word here if Discord allows for it?

This thread is not about the moderator. This thread is about the behavior of people and how our children should not have to be exposed to over use of such language. Then to have my parental skills attacked because this kid does not agree. My husband passed this off to me as he headed out the door to work. He has 9am court and lawyers can not be late.

Before moderators take action on this yes it is my kids account. I am not going through the headache of creating one. Devloper/Community Manager needs to be aware of some things though. I do not think they want this on Facebook and Twitter where more concerned parents may see it and wonder. Seems this game already is unpopular.

You need to find and follow a good guide. I have looked over the SP files and they are very much the same as the dedicated server files. Thing is Atlas is not an easy to modify game. Guides from more experienced people will help you more than a forum post. For the dedicated server version there are Server Managers you can use. Not sure why you would want a 2x2 for SP when you can have a huge world to play in. Bigger would give more content. Could also try Blackwood for an easier fix.

Yeah you two need to get off your thrones down below and come up to reality. Thinking that you are owed anything from a game developer of any level AAA or Indie is outright arrogant. Their job is simple to build the game not to hold your hand daily and keep you informed. There is more than enough information put out there when they have it to put out there. When they WANT you to know something you will know it. Until then sit in your chair and rotate if you have no interest in playing the content you already have. Where do you think you have any expectation to know everything that is going on? Because you bought their game? That gives you 0 power/rights/entitlement or anything else. Gives you not even a guarentee of a game that will be completed!!!!

All you have to do with those BAK files is change their name and the BAK to the some things that the original file has. Then that will be the file that the save info is retrieved from. Just that easy. I always pull that file out of there and use copy past then deleted the not wanted file and insert mine.

Very well said could not have worded it better myself but like all games MOST PVPers are just bullies and greifers that look for exploits such as stacking cannons on the front of the ship completely outside the intention of the game. Funny the same people will whine about immersion. That part of the community will likely not change. Atleast the game is changing though to be more for the PVE and solo/small group gameplay. Unlike what your big gangs will tell you that the game is not meant to be that. As per this teams rep they are adding in things that were never planned. Yes SP never planned or it would not have been marketed as a MMO

So this whole thread is one big joke. Grapeshot has done something they DO NOT have to. They took the time to create SINGLEPLAYER and even Non-Dedicated servers just like Ark has. So how is that rolling over the little guy that bought into a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE game? Please any of you that feel wronged by GS answer that? Sure I play the SP version of the game now. Mostly because all the servers out there are based around toxic PVP or carebear no challenge PVE. Finally I can enjoy the actual game with no one ruining it. No more dictors runnings servers feeling better than the rest. So it seems that GS has given the solo/small companies a HUGE gift. Still people seem to think they have ENTITLEMENT to something more. Still people are here crying that it is not enough. If you do not like or can not enjoy a MMO then why in the world did you buy one? As for this topic it is a shame that games like this need these sort of timers. Worst yet is no one knows when the thing expires. Not sure why it can not be a set rate and stay there. I know people get busy but seems to me that 14 days is more than enough time. If you can not find 5 minutes to log in for a moment then you clearly do not care. I am guilty of keeping my stuff on offical before the first wipe. Was not sure I could find a good private server. I was right but going back to official was not the answer either. With no direct supervision on official servers people do as they please. Really not interested in dealing with that. Plus first time around took me at least 10 hrs of game time to find a small sliver of land someone else had left behind.

Though it may be a great idea there is one huge hurdle. Moving faster means crossing grids faster. Means rendering faster. Means weaker PCs will have issues playing the game. Smaller weaker servers will struggle to run Atlas. This could be something they do people, important to understand it likely will not come until near Beta if not in Beta. Even  when they get it in game there are going to be unhappy people that may not be able to use it for performance issues. That will be another reason to hop on the Atlas Hate Wagon....

GS do not get me wrong I have and will support you. Love how you have pulled this game together. Careful what you attempt and remember the mistakes of being nice to the Ark Community and what that got you. Betting all those negative reviews are Ark player bought the game to attack you. Even now you are an entirely different company but referred to as WC. People do not want to except reality beyond their own.

It would really help your community if your discord had easy to find updated info. I left because I could not find a link to direct connect to your freeport. Most all servers out there have that in their discord. Found that your rules are either outdate or you chose to use old land claim system but got no clarification.
Sorry if this is hard to take but a new player wants to join Discord but then quickly get in the game. I looked things over for quite some time and could not find a link to connect. Your answer was not all that helpful either. Went to that channel and maybe I could have started at the top and keep reading but yeah no will go elsewhere to a place that is better organized and more excited to see new faces.
Perhaps you find this all helpful or be like the last server owner and cry to Atlas mods. Do not care regardless as I give feedback where when and how I see the need. When the next time I do a server search after the next big patch perhaps your info will be easier to find.

Been playing on this server and hanging in their Discord for about a week now. Really enjoy the calm laid back atmosphere. If you want true PVE gameplay and laid back Discord group then come check Bounty Bastards out. So far they are one of the only servers I know of that are using the Sub mod so that everyone gets to use the new sub without having to do the very difficult kill the kraken. So if you are a solo guy like me this is the server for you if you would like to see what the new sub is like. They are also using the old flag system so it seems though flag only took the timer away the timer was never actually moving.

Small seems like a great person. No uptight rules here just PVE gameplay the way most of us want it. So if you are tired of things like struggling to know which grids are PVP danger zones or uptight admins/players that cry if a comment is in the wrong channel then join us. Small and her team of admin do their best to hear everyone and craft a server we can all enjoy.

I do not know if this was address and other servers did not have the issue. Treasure maps were blank.  I had 4 maps and all of them were blank and useless. With the need of gold to have a settlement made playing on the server too difficult. I have asked on Discord but not seen any mention of this being fixed.

Outside of this issue seemed like a great server but wanted the full experience so I left.

All I can say folks is you have CHOICES!!!! If you make a choice not to play what is there it is on you. Sure GS is not going to loose sleep if you never play again. No so much because they have your money but because they know they are never going to please so someone is going to be mad no matter what. Keep hearing crying about there being no NA PVE but also hear lots saying the EU PVE is running fine for NA people. So at the end of the day seems that some people can just go pay for their own server and do as they please. The end of the day if you do not pay the bills you do not get to say what happens. There are still 4 offical servers to choose from and the decision was made to merge the PVE likely from lack of need for 2 of them despite those crying about it. Think about this one cluster is 15x15 only 4 regions to a server. So you do the math on number of servers. Then do some research on cost. Not like they are saving $200 by not adding a 5th cluster we are talking 10's of thousands of $ to run just one cluster. Simple math combined with common sense. Why dump money is something under used.

Current system is meant to push people to Co op play the game. Not for one little group to struggle to own all the islands. Which I hear is what is going on. People crying they can not dominate and bully as much as before. Still have people exploiting the system which I say ban them. No matter what they do someone is going to abuse it. End of the day ban all abusers. If you can not behave then you can not play.

Is there a working Discord link? Also did this server wipe with the new update? Link posted at start does not seem to work.
