  1. They set up an entire server for you, no need to worry about the ORP system you won't have to play there.
  2. Cannon placement idea. only allow cannons to be placed at gunports, and add a craft-able gunport. At 1x1x1 it limits placing cannons next to one another. want to restrict it more widen it to 1.5 wide, or make top obstructed so you can't stack them. multiple ways to restrict numbers means better fine tuning.
  3. Just been on and tested it a bit more. It seems that if you try to open your map and it doesn't work, and you see your arms drop to your sides, thats when the can't steer or operate sails bug starts. opening the map has become iffy, sometime takes a few seconds, sometimes buggs out your character to operate the ship. I recreated this 3 times once i knew what to look for, doesn't happen every time but from what I saw it was the map that triggered it. Also saw the non-rendered SotD OP mentioned, one I saw only had the cannons rendered, another had a static render but an invisible real one shooting me.
  4. had that stearing issue last night. Also sometimes could not exit the wheel. At one point could raise / lower the sails but not stear. once was locked on the wheel and could do nothing, not nice when you notice because you need to move out of the way of SotD. I tried lots of buttons to get off the wheel, I was actualy dancing while locked at the wheel, even waited for stam to run out to see if it would kick me off the wheel. happened at least 5-6 time on a 3 region trip. A quick relog solved it each time, but constant testing of ship controls made for a frought trip.
  5. More likely be the other way around, big companies shoehorning their way into smaller tribes as thats where the more active sea battle action is likely to be found.
  6. I am interested in it. I want to see what this one island claim system will be like. But unlike you I don't call myself "we" I know others share my opinion, I know others share your opinion, if they want to speak up they will do so. Look, I know you will sound less important if you say I rather than we, but if you want intelegent discusion trying to speak for others won't get you very far.
  7. Taxes and landlords are basicaly the same issue. some people don't want to help with island upkeep in the new system if they are too small or by some other means unable to aquire land. They expect others to pay the upkeep and freeload off their backs. You may come across a landowner like the blackbeard you described, and I suspect we all will. and they will have to play this MMO on their own as many will not treat or trade with people like that.
  8. Guy I was quoting was talking about the real blackbeard, but looks like someones playing him somewhat as described
  9. I know, was just stating the reason for getting rid of alliances was to remove that particular mechanic. didn't want to go into the whole mega's gonna be mega by any means.
  10. But you don't want it to be like black sails or blackbeards island. This black sails trade city, did it have docking fees? (help with upkeep). Could you get market value for your plunder? (Tax) Could you rock up to blackbeards island and build a base? (delete your base, cause he's an ass) Thieves and pirates get very little return on their trades, and then they usualy needed to get to a legitimate port to buy the most important commodity, food, and that agian would be taxed. But this is a game, and you can make everything you need rather than have to go and purchase or steal everything. So the tax is on resources gathered, want food, kill a cow not pay for it, want planks for your ship, chop trees down not buy from a trader. any tax is a game mechanic to somewhat replicate you buying food or planks.
  11. That's probably because they don't want everyone to have land. All pirate tales tell of island governors, good and bad. - is it bad to try and replicate this? All communities need a leader, is every member of your company a leader? if not you are already in your eye's a slave or a slaver.
  12. They're stopping Alliances in PVE so large companies can't use it as a mechanic to get around company size limits. They realy need a grouping up method in PVE so people can help each other out, trade or mission together. A temporary system would suffice, something like a button to group those players within a small area for a few hours. And a trade channel on chat that is the whole map wide.
  13. Everyone seems to complain about being taxed. Then they state that the largest part of gathering is transporting the materials. So being taxed ain't much of a burden. And people don't gather for 1/2 hour and go, "i wish i'd got more", they gather the amount they need, irrespective of the time it takes. After the wipe you can build anywhere, so pick a spot and build, the only thing that'll stop you is if you or the landlord is a 'dick' and with most landlords wanting your taxes to help pay the upkeep it'll either happen rarely or every single time, depending on who's the 'dick'.
  14. anyone who as ever logged in! pretty obvious. would be for people who've not yet played the game.
  15. Both the Op and George talk about medium sized bases on the shore, and from the language of their posts seem considerate so would not block either access or spawns. Any one that want's to be landlords and would not allow either of these people to build on their island, please comment with why. As someone that is looking to own land myself, I would love either of you to build on any island I had and help contribute to the upkeep of the island. if I had a notification that George had been building, I would come see just because his other builds were so good. ( Landlord advantage if they have good PVE builders - notifications of improvements. Just thought of that)
  16. Well that's a shame that all the people here are either greafers, or buthurt about paying tax. I would have thought the PVE community was a little more grown up than that. Well I'll keep plugging along at trying to be community minded, despite this gaming community.
  17. You could do something like, I don't know, talk to the landowner for all your outposts, they might welcome the tax revenue.
  18. Upkeep simulator, if you try to keep an island for yourself, I hope that is what it will be. P.S. They said from the start they wanted landlords and tenants. So stop crying over not getting land, and become part of a community. Either be a landlord / admin with all the hassle / benefits that comes with it, or a tenant and pay some tax for someone else to administer the island.
  19. That would depend on my ability to acquire and retain tenants. That would be my ideal.
  20. I'll be hoping to become a landlord. But I want the upkeep to be huge: I want it too take up most of my time gathering to pay it. (Solo) I want to have to apologize to my first tenant that the tax has to be high until others come along. I want the relief of being able to lower taxes as conditions improve and a community begins to solidify on the island. That kind of challenge will offset the chore of being the islands admin.
  21. Being an islands admin won't be to everyone's taste. That's why I like the idea of the new system, and will happily try both landlord and tenant if I get the chance.
  22. Yup, all these people trying to derail the devs vision is sad, they aught to be helping them attain it.
  23. The vision as you state it has not really been in question, where as the "vision" of the details are. Some want no landlords. Some want no tenants. Some want all to be pirates. The devs vision seems to be a balance of all of the above. Is it a vision or a detail? And does it really matter? What would help is a clearer direction statement from the devs so we could make suggestions in that direction, rather than guess or suggest things they just won't consider.
  24. They do have a goal for claims, and they have talked about it from the beginning. They want landowners and tenants. It's the balance of giving each pro's and con's, they've not got right yet. I'm at least going to give the new system a shot, Wether I get to own an island or not. If you want land become a governor, if not a tenant. If that imagining of a south seas island is in your mind overlords and slaves is that the fault of the devs or your own perception. Or if you don't like that sort of order you could you know, play a pirate, I know it's an outlandish idea, but roving the seas from lawless to civilised islands could be the life for you. The above sounds like a good game, I think i'll go play it.
  25. For starters, they are moving from everyone could get a bit of land to only some are going to get land of their own. Also overlords as you call them, i'll just call them admins. I'm going to find me a nice spot on someone else's island, I won't have to worry about pillar spam, i'll just report it. In fact any issue i'll just leave for someone else to sort out. Easy living. The admins get a few extra mats for all this trouble, sounds reasonable to me. And if the admin turns out to be a dick, I'll up and find elsewhere else, and post the grid and island on the inevitable "Badmin" post here on the forums.
