  1. They can never wipe it out completely in the same way that you can never reach the door if you travel 1/2 the distance to it each time.
  2. Per @Jat, if the chefs have got it right, the ptr could be up in 4 hours or so.
  3. I wish they'd put info in the forums as well. I don't expect I'll be on there much if it's pvp.
  4. Yes, but is that opinion too, or is there a quote from somewhere? The reason everyone is so confused is that there are 2 ptr plans - the one we're expecting today, and then a permanent one to be set up later, and they never specify which one they're talking about. I think half of what people are quoting might be about the later ptr.
  5. Yeeeeah, we're gonna have to move your ptr to the basement.
  6. I think I saw the PTR getting into a cab headed to Newark airport.
  7. Well, that's puzzling, because in a Captain's Log titled PUBLIC TESTING REALM AHOY Dollie said - PvE Mode: ATLAS: PvE This game mode will be spooling up with changes and the system will be based upon details discussed in the last Captain’s Log. We will monitor our PvE mode in the PTR and beyond and continue to iterate on it as we move forward. So I'd guess if the first part is true, that the second part is probably not true, but who knows, at this point? If there's only one mode on the ptr, it could be a pretty crowded server. Jat just tweeted that the earliest the ptr could possibly be up is 4 - 5 hours, so it'll be a while before we know.
  8. I look at it this way...we're getting wiped out too and WE just come back. I'm sure after the wipe all those sailors and animals will be back too. You'll just have to hope you meet up with them again if you liked them.
  9. The issue with the tames is that some people just don't want to do them for a number of reasons - don't feel it's part of a pirate environment, a holdover from ARK, etc., and they're unhappy with more taming content being added. The people who like taming say "Just don't do them if you don't like them." But it's not that simple. The game gets balanced assuming people are using them, like in the pvp example above. Even in pve it's an issue with trying to do treasure maps or fight hostile mobs or gather tons of mats fast, because the game assumes you're using tames to do those things. Tames are mandatory in the game now, so people who don't like taming are pushing back on the devs for that.
  10. They rolled that back yesterday. Alliances on pve are back!
  11. There will be somewhere around 950 islands. Well, at least that's what they indicated...with 40% more being added to what's there now. So if the ptr is 1/3 normal size that'll be around 320 or so. It'll be interesting to see how the points work and how many islands the megas can claim. Also will be interesting to see if player numbers go back up after the wipe.
  12. There is some change to that in the latest patch notes..seemed like they were putting in something to prevent people from getting caught up on other's boats accidentally? Don't have time to find the reference to be sure, but have a look in there.
  13. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day...
  14. At some point when the dust settles, I'd like to see half size wall and foundations too. Those would be a big help in building something other than big square boxes.
  15. Boomer, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea.
  16. Well, there's no telling what's actually coded for it..unexpected consequences and all that...but going strictly according to what they said..there's nothing a new landlord can do to it after the timer's up.
  17. Disagreeing with this new design is not "crying on the forums". We tried telling them this kind of stuff would happen as soon as they announced it, but they want to try it anyway, and when there's no surprise and all this passive-aggressive stuff does happen, we'll be back here saying I told you so. The developers call that "input". As far as ruining someone else's gameplay - hey, if I get a claim, it's going to be set up the way I want it set up. Plenty of people feel that way..they want to interview everyone who wants to build there..they don't want this, they don't want that.... If I log in some morning and find some guy with a freakish name has built junk all over my island, I'm destroying it. If he gets pissed off and pillars my ships, I'm gonna complain about that. (Not about HIM, about the idiotic design that encourages players to do that stuff) Both the destruction and the build-anywhere pillars are built into this design on purpose. This is how the devs want the game to be played. It's not griefing if people play the way they designed it to be. It's just rotten design, IMO.
  18. Unless I missed something, there's nothing in the patch notes that says anything anybody builds belongs to the settlement owner. It implies the opposite in fact. However, if you've got an active settlement owner, they can destroy anything you build within X hours (they say they might increase that from 12). So it's "yours" , but not really yours until the X hours are up. The patch notes DO say the destruction window is from the time something is built. It wouldn't be based on when someone claims the island because that makes the place a free-for-all starting the day after the claim.
  19. Are you guys hoping to own land or just build on land?
  20. One of the things I don't like about the changes has to do with something Daemon mentioned in his comment. For a solo player or small group of friends trying to own their own island will be next to impossible so we will be forced to live on someone else’s land and abide by the rules they have in place A lot of the small groups had really good ways of working together to do things. On my first base in lawless, we had some great people who would help each other out and get together to do some of the bigger things in the game, and then when I finally got a claim, we had the same thing going there. You meet some good people and start working together. To me, that's what games like this are all about. The new design is splitting us all up. If we do get land, we'll be split up onto our own islands now, without the option to do alliances to keep the group together, and probably in separate zones so we can't even chat anymore. If we had the option to take a bigger island and all share it, that might work, but we won't be able to do that. Everybody wants to own land, and if that's not possible, the second choice might be that one of our group would own the land and we'd all settle on it, but we can't do that either. If anyone has any clever ideas about how to work around this news system to accomplish that, I'd like to hear them. I wonder what happens if a company of 10 takes a medium sized island and then disbands....
  21. Listen, Martyn, I"m sorry you feel that there were high horses involved. My take on this whole thread is that a bunch of us were talking about these upcoming changes and then someone enters the conversation and starts saying things like "You're all just guessing what it will be like, and nobody knows what's going to happen...you are all just doom and gloom, you "haz" issues", etc. So that was kind of antagonistic, but we keep the discussion going, talking about some of the ways this might all shake out, and then suddenly we realize that you really didn't know what the changes were, and that's why you were saying those things. That was a fairly mind-boggling moment. And then following it up by asking for proof and links to stuff about the 12 hour window, the size of claims, landlord rules for destroying stuff, etc..so we started putting links in there because obviously you didn't know. So here we have some guy voicing strong opinions for days that we "haz issues" and are making things up, and quit being so doom and gloom, and he didn't even have the basic information about the changes. So what can you do, except to think "Ok, well that explains that", and provide the info. There's a lot of stuff I don't know about the game either, but if I had done that I probably would have ended with "Sorry, I obviously missed at least one Captain's Log somewhere" rather than accusing people of having their knickers in a twist and simultaneously being on a high horse (which sounds very uncomfortable). And now of course, the discussion won't continue in this thread because it's been labeled "toxic" , and the people trying to explain what's happening are all big meanies or something.
