  1. Its funny that people always defend the game by saying 'it's a pirate game,' when what they're defending is anarchy. Pirates did not live in an anarchic society. They lived in a society very tightly bound by rules, in the cracks opened by the vast open distances that once used to exist between countries and colonies. They were not big swaggering dicks, they were rats scuttling around in the walls. Not really coming down on one side or another, but if they were truly capturing the spirit of piracy they would be attempting to set up some sort of counter force, a governmental faction which was vastly overpowered compared to the pirates, which the pirates had to avoid if they wanted to continue to play. That would be difficult to code though, so instead its just ARK on the water, where only no-lifers are allowed to enjoy official servers despite the whole machine requiring casuals to play to be easy targets to satisfy the no-lifer core's desperate need to feel powerful.
  2. 2-3? There are usually at least 4 in sight when you are out on the ocean. They are unavoidable. Certainly if you are trying to GO anywhere. It would still be dumb even if it was physically possible to outrun them when you are going straight with the wind, but that's impossible as well. They're like wolves, if every wolf were an alpha wolf and wolves spawned much closer together. The loot certainly isn't worth it either, unless you're just taking advantage of their shit programming and harvesting them with an axe from the waterline. The devs gave a limited number of people a huge advantage with the bad launch, then they decided to cement that by releasing the ships of the damned (not sure if they existed before, but we took a pretty long trip on rafts and never saw one) and killing anyone who dared leave an island cluster without a lot of cannons and ammo. The only reasoning I can see behind this is that they want it to look more exciting for all the youtubers and streamers who somehow seemed to near universally avoid the problems that kept ppl from logging in for days and then the stuff that came after as well? Even those ppl are mostly shit-talking the game though, so I'm not sure what they hope to accomplish. SotD need to be reduced massively, and need to actually exist in the world instead of just spawning around players, and the servers need a reset bad. Not that I care, I think I'm done. I guess they've already got my money so they don't care, but they certainly won't get any more when the inevitable continuing revenue model comes out. What you wanna bet they're just going to sell gold and make it 100% p2w on top of everything else? That's the thing, there probably aren't that many spawned at any one time lol. They pretty clearly spawn ON player ships, because you can also see them despawning as they get out of range, just popping into and out of existence in a cloud around you. If they actually spawned at the density with which they surround player vessels away from land there would be no doubt millions of them and the server would crash.
  3. Not really a bug, just bad game design, but why do sloops exist? Are they just for going between the islands in a square, where now at least w/ the ships of the damned not coming as close to shore you MIGHT survive? Because they can't go between squares. Ships of the damned spawn constantly RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU, pretty much already shooting, and they're faster than the sloop (and presumably the other boats since they're larger and heavier and should be slower). Sloops don't even have weapons that can hurt them. I could throw a stone further than their cannons can shoot, so those are useless. So why do they exist? Why lie to the players and act like it's possible to get off of their awful troll infested buggy spawn islands with these useless ships? It was bad enough losing three schooners (one completely finished) to buggy docks that either just explode on their own or cause the ship to fly up into the air when you release it and THEN explode (and no it wasn't shallow water). It was bad enough losing another complete ready-to-sail schooner and a half-finished one to a bug that let whoever wanted to demolish the docks, to trolls who obviously knew that bug and were purposefully exploiting it just to screw with people (they didn't even take any loot, they sent someone ahead to demolish the docks then shot everyone on shore with cannons then sailed off as most of the loot respawned because they had shot most of the raft beds). I just said, "Oh, its early access, I already expect devs to release trashy games in early access, whatever." This, though is purposeful design, having ships much more powerful than the starter ship spawning constantly within very short ranges of you as you travel the ocean. Even with a cannon-armed schooner, maybe you could kill one, maybe you couldn't. But you couldn't KEEP killing them without carrying an absurd amt of ammo, because they don't drop much ammo. So... yeah. Not a bug, but there isn't a "Shitty Game Design" forum. As near as I can tell this is a game meant to be played from fortresses on the land, unless you're one of the people lucky enough to have been able to join the server in the first couple of days, to have not had all your resources disappear from your island so that boat construction moved to a crawl, to have not had ships explode in dock or destroyed by trolls or any number of other things that set back many people. The people who avoided all of that are probably sitting pretty with galleons, blasting through the damned with ease and not caring that the loot isn't worth the expense in cannons. For anyone else I guess just stay on land or use a raft which they seem to rarely shoot at.
  4. Anyone else getting this? First one was our fault (well, and the shitty physics). Ship builder accidentally detached it (fully completed, but he was transferring stuff from the nearby chests) from dock, then had to do some repair, then the ship I guess thought it was touching the dock so it shot a bit up in the air and just imploded when it landed. The two after that, where we built docks and then the ship randomly exploded, were not our fault. That just happened, for no apparent reason. Have to destroy each dock of course, because despite the remains of the ship being noclip and non-harvestable they still impede the creation of a new ship. This is a very demoralizing game. The basic concept is okay, but the game itself seems determined to shit in the player's mouth.
  5. I think only the top ten or something like that show up on those right?
  6. Lol you ought to try living in L7. Always the first down, last up.
  7. Same. I finally get in game, it runs okay for like an hour or so, then this. Appears that it's a purely client side instance, the ping is 0 even though it says there are like 174 players online. Turtles flying through the air everywhere, can't switch weapons or interact with anything, etc. Thats when it doesn't fail to fetch server data.
  8. What good does it do if they were listening then lied about fixing it? Might as well not have listened.
  9. NOPE! Devs keep 'fixing' the game, without doing the one simple thing that would let most ppl get back in. At least the freeports are apparently working now judging by how full they are.
  10. Same. The devs seem to think they're fixing stuff but they're just making it worse. Just let us delete our characters, or wipe the servers. The streamers already hate you, you can't piss them off any more, so what's to lose?
  11. Yeah but according to jatheish's twitter they're just 'not quite where they want to be' yet lol. Because he found one guy in chat who it works for now. Dude KNOWS it's still not working for most people, that's some hardcore pr there.
  12. Same, I get both error messages now. Wish they would quit lying and saying they've fixed stuff. JUST LET US DELETE OUR F*CKING CHARACTERS!
  13. Hahaha dude, don't trust the devs' promises until you've verified them yourself. They didn't fix shit. They crashed the game, then when it came up they hadn't fixed connection issue.
  14. Its launching now. Still doesn't fix the connection issues. Supposedly they fixed the sleepers so that should fix rubberbanding?
  15. Its working now. The update didn't fix shit. I get two errors now when it fails to connect instead of one. These devs love them some false promises
