  1. There is a lot more to diplomacy then simple words. I've given some examples in previous posts and in fact in a game like this you can win many battles through diplomacy alone if you are good at social engineering.
  2. Well said Bandit. It seems a lot of folks on here are under the illusion that adding these PVE protections will somehow give them a fighting chance against the mega tribes. I pity them because they are in for a rough surprise. They will be little more then sitting ducks unable to go on the offensive due to a combination of expensive war tokens and inability to have the element of surprise coupled with superior enemy numbers. This means they will lose every time, they don't stand a chance. Instead they will be holed up in their base waiting to die and when it comes it sure will be fast.
  3. Lol really one of these classic flyer mod people. I never expected to see your kind on here. When a Pteradon one hits a boss creature most folks agreed that was extremely OP but hey I guess some people just can't let go off their OP items. Easy mode for life.
  4. Look as soon as the Colonies server starts there will be complaints about "teaming" and "megas" and "griefers" + all the other buzzwords. The whole offline thing anyway was exaggerated nonsense whipped up by people that were looking for something to blame for why they lost. I had base in a Lawless sever for about 5 weeks, it never got hit once. If you know where and how to build you'll never get offlined. Colonies might have made offline raiding technically impossible but it will just be swapped with online zerging ie hundreds of players attacking you in the raid window which will end with the same result - a lot of tears. Mega tribes will rightly rule the roost once more even with tribe player limits. ARK tried limit tribe numbers and it failed and I suspect the same will apply here. Unless you have active admins enforcing it players will just go around it.
  5. So in the old system you were in a small tribe that allegedly did well but then somehow you ended up hating the old system? I am kind of doubting that your tribe did well but anyway ok even so, what makes you think that you will do better against mega tribes in Colonies? Offline protection? Nope that will just delay the inevitable. War token cost? That is mere pocket change to a mega. Raid window? Nope megas will have players on around the clock even if you set the window to 4am they will still be there to wipe your base clean. If I was in a small tribe I can tell you now I would not want to play Colonies. By playing Colonies in a small tribe you are basically throwing away any advantages you might have being in a small tribe and at the same time inheriting all the disadvantages that come with being in a small tribe. You can no longer launch surprise attacks or take advantage of weak enemy bases/vulnerable targets. You are instead now forced into a direct head to head confrontation with the mega tribe. That is 50 players + all their secondary tribes + their allies vs your little rabble. Good luck with that.
  6. Look its real simple. If you have a mega tribe and you want to play Colonies you just use the following formula: Mega Tribe Players ÷ Player Cap = Number of tribes needed to play. People are naive to think that tribe caps of 50 are going to stop mega tribes dominating Colonies. Instead of one large tribe with the same name it will instead be a bunch of smaller tribes all working together like old times.
  7. You do realize a significant proportion of Atlas' player base comes from ARK. These folks don't have time for quaint little rules they want the freedom to plunder and slaughter just like did in ARK. These are players that are often incorrectly labelled as "griefers/trolls/toxic/offliners/zergs/no lifers/evil" labels we wear with a badge of pride. This new Empire server will be very successful since it will be attracting a large component of the player base who have the grit to keep going even after being wiped. These players won't be giving up after one battle, they have that drive to succeed that comes with being a competitive PVP player. I actually fear for the stability of the Colonies server because even with all those inbuilt anti PVP protections you are still going to get some of the more casual ARK players heading on there who still have quite a bloodlust and that 9 hours will be all they need to unleash their inner demons. You watch there will be a trail of tears as the new PVE players get nearly instantly wiped and immediately depart their server for home. It's one thing to move from PVE to PVP Lite its another thing though to adopt a PVP mentality and many a PVE player will struggle immensely. I have never personally ever seen a real successful transition from a PVE player to a PVP player. Most give up after a week, those that don't tend to be mediocre players at base even years later. I'm expecting a large drop in players on Colonies after the first week or so.
  8. No you asked for a mode that is purposely designed from the ground up to inhibit and stop PVP by adding various mechanisms which make it much harder to fight. PVP is only allowed for just 9 hours per day on the server which means that the other two thirds of the server time is PVE. Then on top of this you have to purchase an expensive war token and on top of that you can't use it more then once on the same island and finally you have to be online at the time the defender sets. So while theoretically there might be 9 hours of battle per day in reality its more likely to be maybe one battle per week or even one per fortnight depending on where you live. Its little more then a glorified PVE server which is after all what you are really after anyhow. Give it a week or two and I am sure you will be back on the forum complaining about Colonies being too hard or that people are using team work against me and that should be banned.
  9. Your post is like saying solve cancer it kills people. There is no substance to your generic arguments.
  10. Empires is a no brainer especially if you are in some small company. Its basically a choice between freedom and shackles. Would you want to play a mode where your freedom of action is artificially limited, where your skills are deliberately handicapped, where no matter how much time and effort you put into the game it stalls your ability to be dominant? Of course not, that is why you play Empires. Let the best man and the best team conquer the rest.
  11. I agree PVE servers should be liquidated and merged into the new Colonies servers (which are basically 90% PVE anyways). This way Colonies will be able to have a player base that almost equals the popularity of the Empire servers. This will also prove a great learning experience for PVE players as they will be able to learn proper building techniques and occasionally engage in a bit of casual PVP where they can learn how to shoot and use cannons.
  12. The problem is you cloaked PVE players will never be happy. Every time they lose a battle/get wiped they go on the forum and demand new rules that they think will help them in game but in reality it won't, it will just keep their mediocrity stable. If the devs were to bow down to every demand from this group then PVP servers would end up having a permissions system where you have to ask the guy you are attacking if they agree to it
  13. How many people have even seen this Reddit poll? I doubt even 5% of the game's playerbase have even seen it let alone voted on it. The data subset is too small to draw any valid conclusions. No I am a player that is prepared to take the strategic initiative in order to get ahead. Call it whatever you want but it works well. If you play PVP and you allow yourself to be burdened by ethnics and morals then you are doing it wrong and will be at a distinct disadvantage versus more astute players. Well enjoy the lesser experience, I am sure you will still have fun some kind of fun. Personally though I think its great the devs are not trying to force anyone to play a mode they dislike mode by giving us two types of servers.
  14. Do you seriously think a top 10 companies is going to wait to offline some small company for shits and giggles? If we are going to do that we are going to want some entertainment out of it which means its better for us if you are online and secondly offline or online to us it doesn't matter you are dead regardless. We sure aren't going to run up to your thatch hut and say nope can't attack now there is a naked inside with his stone tool retreat!
  15. You are the one in need if a reality check there champ. For starters this game is very much an open world game sandbox, that is how it was advertised and that is exactly how it plays. Also the devs have already stated there is going to be a hardcore mode without any rules, and hand holding ie true PVP mode. They will also be offering a care bear mode which I am sure you will eagerly take up. Oh and about those mega tribes yep they will definitely exist even in the PVP Lite server. They will just split up into multiple companies to over come the player limit. Enjoy
  16. I think an easy temporary fix for this would be to add sub categories to ships. As I said in another thread each ship type could have a default type and then specialized variants for instance you could have: Stock Schooner: Has current attributes Speed Schooner: 20% more speed. 30% less ship plank health Weight Schooner: 20% more weight. 20% less speed Ranged Schooner: 20% more cannon range. 20% less damage. Tank Schooner: 20% more plank hp. 20% less speed. Gun Schooner: 20% more damage. 10% less range. 20% less plank hp So on.... This way the devs wouldn't need to add a whole new model and yet still massively increase variety. They could distinguish between various models by way of an icon next to the ship name.
  17. You watch give it a week and all those ones that said PVP was too hardcore and so went and played on Colonies will be back on the forum saying Colonies is too hardcore and demanding there be even less PVP. The problem they will have though is they can't blame Offline Raiding anymore as that excuse isn't applicable.
  18. Yep and you can hide between your raid window in your safe space on the PVP Lite server.
  19. Wrong. They will still do that it just won't be an official alliance. If I had a mega tribe of say 1000 players, all I would need to do circumvent that restriction is split it into 4 tribes. There is nothing in the rules to stop tribes doing that and if they do create a rule as ARK proved its very hard to enforce if not actively monitored. Colonies in time will come to be dominated by large groups officially independent of one another but in reality a large blob all working together.
  20. The problem for the colonies servers will be the player base in particular the huge gulf between different player types. There are two types of player that will play on there. The first is the PVE player that is basically bored of PVE and wants to experience risk free PVP. (This category also includes PVE players that are in self denial). The second is the proper PVP player that hasn't got the time to commit to the hardcore server. Now it is pretty obvious what the result will be when these two groups clash. Even having a raid window, timers and all that protectionist crap still isn't going to be enough save the PVE player because fundamentally they lack the right mentality for PVP. From the their badly designed bases, to what skills they prioritize in to their lack of understanding of game mechanics, the PVE player simply does not stand a chance. The end result will be a large volume of players transferring back to PVE servers carrying with them a few black eyes and a lot of tears.
  21. Mr Hardcore is back. You are definitely anything but a hardcore PVP player. In post after post you have been demanding less PVP, more hand holding, more safe spaces, more protection. Why don't you link us to that video again of all those "hardcore" bases you made on PVE servers in ARK, you know the ones with the cute towers and pretty glasswork with next to zero defenses I just can't take you seriously after you posted that video. I don't even know why you aren't playing on some private password protected role player server. That is clearly where you belong. The good news for is you are getting your PVP Lite server and we are getting our hardcore server as the devs themselves described it as.
  22. These PVE infiltrators are an odd bunch. They join our PVP servers, then try and build their usual badly designed pretty looking PVE bases and as a result get rapidly deleted. Then they pop up on the forum and start demanding there be less "PVP" and that there be rules and regulations and that people should be nice to one another. Even now with the devs creating two servers including a PVP Lite mode for them, these folks are still demanding that everyone should be playing their way or else. They seem to be forgetting that they are in the minority. The vast majority of players prefer total war and with it the freedom to attack anyone anywhere anytime.
  23. I think you got the wrong forum there GUMBYC this is the PVP forum. Us PVP players like killing other players, slaughtering their tames, stealing their land and raiding their bases.
  24. None of your definition fits what the OP was complaining about. Building on an enemy island either in preparation for a raid or to cripple their economy is a tactical play designed to help your team win.
  25. No the more freedom a game has the better it is just like in real life. Free peoples can do a lot of great things and some bad things but that can't be helped. Trying to imprison them with silly rules just doesn't work. In the natural order of things those who are deserving of the top place will obtain it and those who aren't well they will disappear. I'm glad the devs have realised this and created two system one is basically capitalism and one is basically communism. I know which one always win at the end.
