  1. I don't know what kind of ARK server you played on but it was definitely not an Official PVP server. With the megas I was in if someone attacked one of our beta tribes we would immediately go to their base and level it. The whole thing gone foundations and all. After that they would be KOS anytime we saw them. That's how you ensure smaller tribes know their place and won't even attempt to do anything stupid.
  2. The point of PVP in games like Atlas, ARK, Rust and Conan is to eliminate hostile tribes and ensure your own rises to dominance. That's the basic game plan and then from there you have to branch out and plan how you will accomplish this. Online, offline it doesn't matter so long as your winning and your enemy is losing. I don't know of any single true PVP player that would not raid an easy base just because the owner went offline when you showed up. Other players will give you no quarter and neither should you expect any. You are playing in a mode that is essentially total war. All efforts should thus be focused towards the war effort. Hunt down your enemies, butcher them, slaughter their cattle and reduce their bases to dust. That is the template successful players always follow.
  3. And that is why you will never be a top PVP player. You are letting quaint morals and ethics disadvantage yourself. All in or nothing that is the way to play.
  4. Tribe caps and alliance caps won't impede a determined mega tribe. Both can be easily got around with ease. To expect that the admins will somehow make a rule against offline raiding and then effectively enforce it is very naive. That requires a lot of time and effort and ARK showed unless you admins actively watching it won't do much to help anyhow. The fact of the matter is by choosing to play Colonies you are choosing to become a victim of a mega tribe. They will rule the server and there is nothing you can do about it and the same is true for Empires they will rule those as well. The difference though is that in one of those modes the little guy can fight back while in the other mode the little guy cannot. I know which one I would play if I was in a small tribe...
  5. The lag factor is dependent on how long it takes to load in the entities. A 10x10 wall that contains a 100 pieces will naturally load slower then if that was just one piece. It is also dependent on what your in game bandwidth setting is set to. The higher it is the more data the server will send to you at once which means you will load bases faster.
  6. Careful there your not matching Captain Jack's narrative of the poor little guy being picked on. We don't need more truth on this forum.
  7. No one plays these games for the story. I played ARK for 3 years and I still have no idea the story is about. All I know is you are there to wipe out the other tribes and become the dominant one. Atlas is the same, the vague story exists only to provide some excuse for all the mythical stuff.
  8. There is an old saying that comes to mind - "be careful what you wish for" On another note I find it hilarious that you already come up with your new excuse for why you will lose even before this new mode is launched. Given up on the old tired "offline raiding" excuse have we?
  9. Yep its a downward spiral as they try and please the lowest common denominator. Its also a symptom of the modern Western world. Feelings and identity politics now trump merit and hard work. There is this sense of entitlement that carries over into games like this where even the worst players believe they have a right to stand on the same pedestal as the very best because otherwise its "unfair". Anyone that has played ARK will know that if you let PVE players dictate the mechanics of your game you will end up with a product that is both shallow and boring. For example PVE players in ARK for years campaigned to overturn the patch that nerfed the hilariously OP flyers. Before the patch flyers were the go to dinosaurs for just about everything having every advantage and no disadvantage. Fast, strong, easy/cheap to tame, good at scouting, good at raiding bases, pretty tanky, good stamina, good damage, can pickup other dinos, can pick players off dinos and can carry large amounts of weight. As a result you rarely ever saw players use anything but the obviously OP flyers even though the game offered a choice of over 100 dinosaurs. A comparison with Atlas would be everyone using Schooners because they have the most cannons, are the fastest, are tanky, can carry the most weight so on. PVER's were really ticked off that patch made them have to land every few minutes for stamina making them vulnerable while on the ground. They just wanted to quickly fly around the map in a few minutes and not risk dieing. To this day there is still several hundred players that use the Classic Flyers Mod on nearly dead private servers. I guess for some folks they get into easy gear and are unable to downshift.
  10. Pirates used false flags in real life to gain the upper hand. It makes sense that players also have this option. I quite like the ability to adjust one's name, it opens up a wide array of tactical options to deal with your enemies. In any case putting a time limit on name changing won't solve this. There are methods around that.
  11. Hardcore PVP players do not give a damn whether your base is occupied or empty, whether your ship has masts or not. Its dead either way. You seem to think we pull out some kind or moral compass when we rock up to a base that dictates whether we should attack them or be nice based upon whether they are around or not. I sure as hell do not and I am sure others are the same.
  12. Well playing on a sever where two thirds of the day is PVE is not exactly a PVP server now is it champ. Btw hows the Aesthetic Bases Volume II video coming along? Will the bases have turrets this time around?
  13. Skull and Bones is a pointless casual game. You login do some "battles" for 20 min then log out. There is no long term significance to whether you won or lost. That is the beauty of games like ARK and Atlas when you raid someone's base, kill everything and rip up the foundations you are doing real damage. You know they will be hurting. Its quite satisfying.
  14. Good time to practice the methods of war. If you truly want to join a PVP server in the future you will need to know at least the basics.
  15. Well you are very much in a small minority there. The game was marketed and sold as a open world PVP game, that is the reason why it sold so well. The PVE mode of the game is basically a stripped down version of the full game.
  16. You should do some research. Pick any game that is similar to this be it Rust, ARK or Conan. Then go and join a private server with offline protection and raid timers (if you can find one that isn't dead). Give it a shot for a few weeks. Then after that if you are still a passionate supporter for this kind of system sure by all means join the Colonies server.
  17. So you will be successfully defending with your 14 man PVE bob tribe against a mega tribe of 100+ players some of whom may also be PVE / Farmer types but who will be led by the core PVP players in that tribe and who will have access to far superior equipment and greater supplies then you will ever dream of having. Now that would make a great novel, a truly fantastic story.
  18. Just pointing out the obvious. In any case its only this new mode that will fail hard. The original mode that the game was designed around will remain as popular as ever.
  19. Well see you have to look at those on the forum that pushed hard for this. Some were kind enough to link videos which outed them as obvious PVE players, while others are still in self denial but the key component linking the folks that have been demanding this is that they are basically PVE players that attempted to play with the big boys on the PVP server. They then got instantly annihilated and so what do you when you can't win by authentic means? You try and get things changed so you can lose less. The end result is this new PVP Lite mode which they are all celebrating and ironically mistakenly think will stop PVP tribes stomping them into the ground. Naivetiy as its best.
  20. I think you are missing the point here champ, yes megas can't hurt you until the raid window opens but as soon as that window pops so does your base. It's really as simple as that. On the flip side there is little you can do to strike back. if you want to attack their base first you need to buy the expensive token, then you need to wait till their prime time to attack when there is hundreds of them online at their base ready and waiting. You and your 5 buddies don't stand a chance. So I guess if you like building a base and role playing as the defender for infinity then sure Colonies is perfect for you.
  21. It depends really. If you are in a mega tribe you don't need to rely on it as much as you do if you are in a smaller tribe for obvious reasons.
  22. Typing random insults into global chat is not at all diplomacy. That is just stupidity and if you are playing on a PVP server you are in addition giving away valuable intel to the enemy. What I was talking about before is inter-tribe relations. Even a small tribe can be surprisingly effective if they can master diplomacy. To give some brief examples in the past I have managed to turn an enemy Chinese tribe into my benefactor. I have succeeded in luring my allies into a war while avoiding getting directly involved myself. I've even once bluffed my way out of a cage by pretending to be part of a large tribe on another server. You just have to think outside the box, understand a little bit about different cultures and engage in a bit of social engineering. If they speak another language use Google translate. Not if he doesn't have a base anymore
  23. No it was nerfed because it very obviously broken. When you have over 100 different dinosaurs in the game and yet players choose to use less then 10 as a dev you know you have a serious balance problem at hand. Lets face it before the nerf no one hardly used land dinos for moving around the map and even after the nerf it only slightly improved. A similar situation has appeared in Atlas with regards to rafts and sloop vs schooners, brigs and galleons. There is no point to using them currently.
  24. You forgot do add PVE = LAG mode. With no natural checks and balances to curb players expansionism hyperinflation, base building and taming rapidly grows out of control resulting in no free land and worse servers that run like crap due to the sheer amount of unnecessary garbage players spam all over the place. Why do you think there are so many complaints in the PVE forum about "lag" and yet next to none in the PVP forum
