  1. BTW, if anyone want to post about it across multiple websites, don't forget this one.
  2. Says the player who thinks static structures increase server ping... Making the change to stone is lazy design. They should have added another tier of defense. Now we are going to see 15x wood and thatch honeycomb buffers around stone. Also this fucks PvE players, not that I am one, but sap islands can just be walled off and no way to take down those walls on PvE if the players who own it are active. I mean you could take a bear to freeports, but then you have to establish a production line using ramshackle sloops and it becomes tedious
  3. Quick @Jatheish, there's still time to acknowledge that mistakes were made and make changes. It could be worse.
  4. I try and simplify several processes and someone takes it too literally. "uncle! uncle!"
  5. See this for your 1st line to 2nd line: For your last two lines, 1. you don't know anything about me or how I have played or where I have explored. I live in a zone with probably 100k foundations (10k I put down over 4 days, I kept notes), 300ish stone gates, and 250ish ships; our company alone has 200 tames. At 06:00 MST with 13 players online I have 60-80 Ping. Most not doing much besides farming or placing static objects. At 18:00 MST with 75-130 players online I have 220-260 Ping. Most ordering tames, fighting with creatures, moving ships. I'm not saying your computer is shit, I'm saying server optimization and settings are shit. It's illogical and unfathomably unlikely that static assets are causing high ping.
  6. The real problem that might be affecting some of you (regarding the slideshow effect) is that the devs haven't capped the FPS. For this game it's like telling your GPU to go ham and don't stop till you drop. Which is really concerning for your GPU's health.
  7. The "slide show" effect isn't the server. It's your computer not being able to keep up (FPS). Lag means there is a slow down of data being transferred from one machine to another. Lag is a term of transit not a term of rendering. Lag = Latency. Latency = time of data to transmit from one place to another.
  8. Large bases aren't the reason for the lag, it's not 100% certainty, but it's highly unlikely. Just as I can't say with 100% certainty people aren't abducted by aliens. Basically, when there are pieces being rendered, your computer cares, to a server, that doesn't matter really. The server just tells your PC what is there. The server doesn't care what is there static wise (any not moving building piece). The server does care about moving parts. For instance, ships, tames, & NPCs; especially the scripts that control the latter 2. The server calculating what needs to happen is most likely the problem (what the animals need to do, what the NPCs need to do, what path your ship is going etc). The only possible problem is that there is a database overload, but that wouldn't cause high ping times or rubberbanding directly. It would however put stress on the servers CPU and create CPU cycle issues. Which would cause the server to slow down, which would affect your ping. Ping is an unimportant packet as far as servers are concerned. The only the reason the server would would be taking longer to respond is because it's saying "I'm busy gimme a second to get you a packet" due to CPU cycles and communicating with the database which to the server is more important than your request for the packet. So stop blaming it on peoples hard work and time spent gathering and building. You're spreading the plague of misinformation regarding how databases, servers, and clients legitimately work.
  9. @thor_ragnarock yup just saw that, was still typing post.
  10. The devs should: Revert material Changes to stone structures. Make a new group of structures like Metal Structures or Improved Stone walls. Disable ship collision. Revert " NPCs mounted on Puckles are now invincible". Perform a discovery point wipe for everyone, because those who actually spent weeks on island discoveries to combat the "retroactive" part of "Discovery Zones now count as 3 Discovery Points instead of 1. Players no longer need to discover all zones to reach max level. Not a retroactive change." Fire the person who approved the idea " NPCs mounted on Puckles are now invincible".
  11. I don't think it was a mistake, I think it was a rushed patch, since they didn't even have time to edit the tooltips fully. If we took a handful of people who don't even know what atlas is and asked them if these patch notes are a good idea, they would laugh.
  12. I'm going to log off and hope that a lot of this is reverted by tomorrow, and we can chalk it up to a bad dream. I don't play on PvE, even I know they are getting fracked here.
  13. I'm going to keep pressing F5 on the patch notes just in case they end up posting "JK "
