  1. Are there fish in colder areas? If so you have your answer in hand. Fish can grant sap. Period.
  2. There is no solo play option at present. Given that Atlas is billed as am MMO/survival hybrid, and MMO’s by their nature need large groups of players playing together in the same game world to function properly, offering solo play option would work against stated design goals. Having said that, the developers have not to my knowledge commented one way or the other which means they haven’t ruled it out. Realistically I wouldn’t hold your breathe.
  3. Good fedback. Agree on all points. Nutrition definately needs a tweak because managing vitamins shouldn't be an overwhelming focus of your gameplay. It's both unrealistic and bad mechanics. Predators are definately overspawning especially in relation to what lower levels can hope to contend with when forced to seek out what they need to keep those vitamin bars up. Right now this is a pick your poison situation. I've found that taking the 3 skills that reduce vitamin drop rate help a great deal, but players shouldn't be essentially forced into this just to make this mechanic manageable instead of an overriding concern. I have not yet found a spot to claim so can't comment on that aspect. Only hit an island or two since the freeport.
  4. There is freshwater at each freeport, apool up a staircase from the dock area. I filled 4 waterskins. You place the filled waterskins in the water barrell and then right click and select fill barrell. It transfers the water in the skin to the barrell. As long as the barrell's lid is closed, it does not lose water. While your solution seems like a useful workaround for the moment, I wouldn't want to have to adopt that approach long term. I think the mechanic definately needs a tweak.
  5. So I did what I was supposed to. Built a raft. Stocked it up. Left the freeport. I had campfire, smithy, bed and water barrel all on board. Water barrel filled. All four types of foods stocked up, with extra supplies for repairing the raft if needed. I leave the freeport I spawned in at and let the wind carry me to the nearest island. Which turns out to be another freeport. No problem, restock supplies a little, geared up, head out again. Let the wind take me to the next nearest island beyond this one, which turns out to be, another freeport. ... Okay, getting a little old but whatever. At this point I begin to notice a problem. Vitamin levels are dropping. I have food, but since I'm not actively doing stuff, just sailing, food doesn't drop very fast. Vitamin levels continue to drop as I sail to the next island heading off in another direction, which turns out to be, you guessed it, freeport island number four. Now here's a side note, if you're gonna tell me that I need to leave the region and explore in order to get beyond level 8, maybe don't have the prevailing winds wind up blowing me in a horseshoe next time. So anyway, the point I reached was that my belly is full, food is capped out, but I'm hitting multiple vitamin deficiences because I'm neither active nor cold so food doesn't drop fast. I'm all for the vitamin bar mechanic, but it definately needs a tweak, because running into a vitamin deficiency every few minutes as you cram food down your gullet is both horribly unrealistic AND horrible gamplay mechanic. So yeah, that needs a tweak. Oh I almost forgot to mention, all of this happened even after I took a skill that's supposed to lower the speed of vitamin meter drop. WTH?
  6. I was actually talking about the first island I came to after leaving the freeport, which btw I got there about 2 mins before servers went down for the new build, whew. Probably I just didn't bring the raft in close enough to get the anchor option I'm guessing.
  7. Don't seem to be able to drop anchor with a raft, saw the option but couldn't take it, or do you have to be close in? Parked raft a little ways out.
  8. Yeah now that I think about it, not starting decay until leaving starter region could allow people to grief by jamming freeports, so that's not great either. Slowing decay when offline might work, but still would play to griefers spamming rafts and then leaving. The more I think about it, the more it's a bit of a rock and a hard place issue from a developers perspective. Maybe it just means players should have a heads up not to purchase a raft and then leave it expecting to come back to it days later, because you know this is going to happen, especially with casuals.
  9. Good to know. My friends are all waiting on thumbs up or thumbs down from a certain guinea pig before they hop in.
  10. So I made a raft and loaded it up with a campfire, cooking pot, smithy and a couple storage boxes. I'm all set to sail away, just need to stock up. I logged out for the night and when I logged back in about 8 hours later, I noticed that my raft had lost about half it's durability. Given that I would have lost all the resources invested in those stations and anything in storage, that's a rather steep decay price right out of the gate, as someone not able to come back for 24 hours after buying their first raft would have discovered it gone. I know that raft durability can be leveled up as the raft levels, but I think this should be looked at for a tweak. Seems a tad high. Perhaps durability decline doesn't start until legitimately leaving freeport region, since there is a mechanic that already forces leaving after level 8 is hit.
  11. Guessing one of those things that hasn't been put in yet in terms of functionality.
  12. Update: Oregano is same vitamin as Parsley, can be substituted.
  13. Go into a heavy foliage area, lie prone with no tools in your hand, left click, you will get a minigame come up each time you left click. You need to win the minigame 3 consecutive times, then be patient and a water spring will pop up in that spot that you can drink from.
  14. The early game tips in this thread says find an area with a lot of foliage, trees etc, and I can confirm I have twice found water in areas like this.
  15. Yes. I'm in a freeport with insane rubberbanding making moving a few feet a frustrating adventure. Anyone with a brain is trying to get a raft built and equipped and leave.
  16. Don't spawn into a cold region. Not all regions are equal.
  17. Do you know if Oregano can be subbed for the parsley? Ie same vitamin? I'm guessing what you were saying is you have to get all four vitamins up to heal, right?
  18. So I'm down to 24 health because of thirst and starvation. I've found blackberries and figured out how to get water, but my health isn't going back up and neither is stamina. This leaves me kinda screwed. What do I need to do? Anyone know?
  19. Devs don't read forums. They especially don't read forums during a launch when they typically go without sleep and basic hygiene to be at battlestations day and night for the first few days. On top of that, your premise is flawed because who will see your threads is the moderators, who will merge them and then warn you about spamming.
  20. This. This. This. This. This. This. Did I mention This?
  21. yup they are now 15 minutes over their own ingame posted announced time for servers to go live. Seriously, they make great games, but they really are the gang that can't shoot straight on stuff like this. Why put up a precise announcement of time unless you know you can actually make it? Oh GrapeCard™ you bunch of scallywags.
