Alright lets be real here. Your name is either ironic or on the nose... Muppetish. That being said, I will be the first one to stomp a mud-hole in another players ass for being needlessly toxic at the devs (ask Percival about that one.) as I very much so understand how hard it can be to develop, being a video game artist myself. I could even accept the silence if I didn't see the team active on Twitter, and Discord with Ark. I've often said how privileged we are to have access to the devs at our current level. But, that privilege has a drawback: we can see when devs are ignoring us. I'm in no hurry to be abusive at the devs. But, I have reached the end of my "just be positive" will. The development drought isn't the problem: It's the silence. The "Seattle Freeze" but for an game's entire playerbase. As a player, I am insulted. I feel betrayed, cheated, neglected. It wouldn't bother me if I didn't see that my Discord/Twitter messages to the devs were being read. It wouldn't bother me if they weren't so active with Genesis, but completely ignore Atlas. Clearly its not handed down from Snail; because Asian/Russian Atlas playerbase is bigger than other groups. Obviously, its not due to a lack of passion or ability. Look at Genesis posts. It can't be due to player treatment. Devblogs don't have comment sections. The devs call Atlas an MMORPG but treat it like a sandbox shooter. So, whats the problem? Why the silence? It's really not fair. Worse, its an insult to the collective intelligence of thousands of people; and it does a disservice to the devs own image. As a dev, its angering. Why squander this product? It's a guaranteed success all it needs is some bug fixes and it can sustain itself on occasional DLC or endgame content patches. It's nearly a complete game: WHY WASTE THIS? The game shot into the 10ks for over three weeks. Dev response? SILENCE. Holy shit, talk about a missed opportunity: If I were Snail, aggressively take over and reduce Jat and Dollie's roles in this game, if at all keeping them on the team for missing an easy retention opportunity. How can you take a GUARANTEED SUCCESS like Atlas and ruin it by ignoring the players and other bonehead decisions? Why would you, after a year and several months not add any sort of logging or item restoration? The game already assigns IDs, which are linked to all the details about a tame or building/ship. Would it REALLY be that much effort to store this information to say... a TEXT FILE so that all a GM/Mod has to do is RUN A COMMAND to restore said item from the list? Let me answer that for you: No, its not that much work. Because the work is literally already done. it would be about five lines of code to write this information (THATS ALREADY THERE AND PASSABLE to a fucking .ini or .bat No one can be this negligent on accident. I just want to know, is this game going to get developed more? Should I start working on a "community patch" to make up for the shit the devs fail to do? If thats the case please just let us know. I love this game, plenty of us would be more than happy to develop our own patches. Just fucking say anything already.

Sean Murray, his crew who made No Man Sky are a good example. They took every verbal beating from their playerbase, pro critics, news organizations, everyone. Because they made outlandish promises, said everything was going to be there on launch day, and we got an Early Access title for full price with a whole lot of nothing, and they suffered. They suffered so hard, having literally no playerbase, but they said they were going to commit to making the game what they promised everyone it was supposed to be. And they did, they admitted they wanted to quit and move on to other things, but they stood by their conviction and turned that dumpster fire into an amazing game, and it took time. But they kept at it. And it has a massive amount of content now they havent charged anyone extra for. They worked it out, they found a way, and they accomplished it. They kept their communication with their customers and players and media outlets going so everyone knew what they were doing. And literally everyone had respect for that, they repaired their broken reputation by taking their blows for their mistakes, and making good on what they said, and it's truly respectable of them to do that. On the opposite side, we have Grapeshot, a "studio" made to turn an ARK DLC into a standalone, that flopped hard because it was a complete mess. And their response to the game flopping on PC? Silence... And then... Well lets put it on Xbox. And more silence. Silence silence silence, and then we come to find out theyre not even working on the game, they all went back to Wildcard to start work on a new DLC. When the entire employee base of a Studio fucks off without a word to their community, to work on another project. That's a serious lowball move, a big fuck you to the people who supported your idea by funding your Early Access.

Two men have an argument at a bar that turns into a shootout. One gets shot and dies. his funeral takes place 3 days later. 4 days after the funeral, cops finally show up at the bar. "hey you! put your guns down! that's it, you're both going to jail, this is not the place to be doing this. we need to separate you two!"

As a player who has played both PVP (except this last season) and PVE every season thus far i think it's time PVE got some end game development love and while i know we are on the roadmap i don't think many of us will remain throughout EA in PVE without some change to that roadmap especially when a lot of the current roadmap and patches have heavy amounts of development time devoted to PVP server centric changes. PVE server endgame is honestly boring at this point, we have all done the Kraken and Snowman many times over to help get every new player the achievements, breeding is on Auto pilot especially with how well connected our community is now with trading stocks, we all have way too much materials to craft all the crap we have collected getting to lvl cap that I am at and a lot of other people are at or very close to. What now?... We want PVP on the PVE server in a limited form. Why not just go play on PVP you say? Well we all know each other on the PVE server, we chat all the time on Discords and have a real community going on and we want more ways to interact with other companies but not force them into PVP as a lot of these players just won't go play on the PVP servers, they just won't for a multitude of valid reasons. What i propose (and i welcome other people with ideas to comment below also) is we turn a few of the central lawless grids in full PVP zones with full land and see combat with full building allowed on land. The sea combat would be welcomed by all PVE groups alone we all want something to build up disposable ships for and just go blow them and each other all up. I would also like to see land combat rewarded with a reason to be there with either some specific tames only spawning here and resources like gold, mythos and multiples of material types to be gathered here. Encourage us to go there and we will go there, we will build defensive and offensive bases and we will fight our friends over them. I welcome feedback and debate but please no just go to PVP servers for PVP because honestly a lot of our friends just won't and that argument is mute, we just want more end game content within the community we have built.

I see a lot of negative comments from the community on here and I can't help thinking that a lot of you seem to be forgetting a few important details. The game is incomplete, we all know that, there is fair warning before purchase and every time we load up on the main menu. The other thing that seems to be forgotten is that devs who waste time responding to every little coment, from players who have forgotten that they knowingly choose to play pre-release, aren't working on the game. Personally I enjoy the game and am looking forward to seeing what Grapeshot have planned for full release. Be patient and if your not happy with the state of the game then just take a break until it's closer to actual launch.

Well I think the burning question we all need answered now is.......Who's your favourite muppet? Mine's Animal btw.

I have to agree, I'd like to see the features from the road map being added. I play Early Access games because they tend to get new features more often. I'm just as disappointed as everyone in the slow progress. Not sure I agree that No Man's Sky is all that great of an example. Atlas could still go the same way it did. NMS was released in 2016, it took them like 3 years to make it into a decent game and the one release I played (I think it was called beyond update), was a huge mess. They added 3D and broke all of the land vehicles so you couldn't see worth shit from them. Didn't fix that for months. NMS does seem to listen though. Although their community doesn't seem near as hostile as this one. Not sure I'd respond to much here if I was in the dev team.

when was the last time you played the game? How can you know the specifics if you don't play the game? Do you not notice all the posts around here hinting that you are being a child and maybe you should just hush? edit: ahaha figurative speech. Good one

I see now that a large number of players have been through a lot with Atlas, particularly those on PC who joined at the start, and their disappointment is valid. My own feelings remain the same, I knew the risks when I chose to pay for game preview, I don't feel mislead, cheated or lied to. There have been times that I've paid a lot more for games that proved far less enjoyable, and definitely didn't live up to the pre-release hype. Hopefully Atlas will eventually reach its full potential but if it doesn't then I'll continue to enjoy it as it is.

As A pc game I would say I got my money's worth from atlas, especially the hours i've played for the price I paid. But the xbox version is a different matter. It could and should have been better than it is and they charged a lot more for it too, (prob microsoft doing some of that though).

I'm not claiming to be an expert on anything and have already accepted that my original post was not the best approach. What I should have said from the start is I understand why there is so much negativity but feel the way it is expressed is less than civil. Yes there is an element of money grabbing, game development is a business and profit is the whole point. Broken promises? What game hasn't had them during development? Keeping quiet won't fix anything but how often does insulting the workers encourage them to work harder? Anyone who has ever had to deal with flak from customers/clients for the failings of management should know that rude and offensive behaviour is not the way to get results.

Yeah its the internet and people behave like children because they are protected behind an avatar. If a lot of the people here on the forums acted the same way in real life and in particular professional life they would not be very successful. I've complained about it as well. Its a lost cause.

I have played and watched the forums since launch. I love the game and play almost everyday with my Mrs. I have not been bored and love just putzing around the PVE map. I have had my 25 bucks repaid in gameplay. My negativity stems from the fact that they promised more. More fixes, more stuff, more attention. Then they disappeared for a bit before Xbox, had a flurry of activity to sell Xbox Atlas and then disappeared again. It screams of money grab. Don’t promise something and then not deliver it. I hate that. Blatantly lying by making a huge deal of what to expect to sell a game makes no one happy ever. Even the people that enjoy playing it.
  15. 1 point
Stop speaking sense but yes you are right people use forums to vent their frustration, not gonna lie I do also. After playing since day 1 and see no real change, then pause Atlas to focus on another game is a reason to drive anyone crazy. I also know they couldn't care less whether we angry or not but you just never know it might strike a chord in them, if they had any sense that is.
  16. 1 point
Maybe they will use the money from Ark: Genesis to do some more work on Atlas. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I'm hopeful. I'll probably maintain that optimism about two months, and then move on to some other game
  17. 1 point
Ya, the way forums work is when someone is upset with the game (like they just had something really annoying happen in the game, or they rage quit over a serious bug), they come here immediately before they have a chance to cool down and post something that they will later regret when they are more level headed. Or they stop playing the game and come here and repeatedly post the worst stuff they can think of. Kind of a way to vent their frustrations Of course there are also those that have played many hours in the game and invested a lot of time in it and are very frustrated that it is not progressing like most Early Access games, with new features every month or two. So of course there is a lot of negativity, that really is to be expected. I was one of those people early on that always said good things about the game. Now I think I say about 50/50 positive and negative stuff about it. The developers are not evil or shady, they are just employees of a company and do what they are paid to do. Paying them costs money, so the company needs to create something that will bring in the money. That seems to be ARK Genesis at the moment. That is basically what you said. I think most people realize this, no matter what they might say here. I think they will work on this game again, otherwise I probably wouldn't have been playing it for the last couple of months. I played it for a few months when it was first released, took a long break and came back recently. The difference in attitudes in general since over a year ago is obvious. I think it is best not to focus on what other people are saying right now in my opinion. Mostly I just state my opinion once or twice in a thread and not engage those that have a much more negative view of the game. Most of them have their reasons for being so negative, and their experience of the game is much different than mine. The game is a sandbox after all and there are literally hundreds of different ways you can play it.

That's fair, I probably should have started this differently I'm not usually active on any form of social media. The negative response is understandable it's more the way that some members choose to express their feelings that I was hoping to address. Fingers crossed both the teams at Wildcard and Grapeshot will realise that they're on a dangerous path
  19. 1 point
That is true, but I'm not stopping, in hopes that the sheer quantity of negativity might have an impact. They might also want to point out that it effects their other products, for me at least, having been an avid Ark player before Atlas, I'm not going to touch anything new they produce (Genesis) until I can trust them as a company.
  20. 1 point
Sometimes they do and my experience so far is that those higher up rarely listen to the people doing the actual work. I'm not trying to suggest that the community shouldn't be unhappy or that we should stop highlighting the issues, just that maybe we could choose our words in a way that is constructive and not let our emotions get in the way, but I'm not here to tell anyone what to do.
  21. 1 point
Sorry, I obviously misunderstood. It was never my intention to lecture or offend anyone, I just think people need to remember that the devs are also humans with feelings and most of them probably answer to someone higher up the chain. They go to work and most likely don't get much say in what they work on.

I prefer to stay positive, and to be honest if you invest your life in a game then that might be why you struggle to stay positive. I've been gaming most of my life (started on NES) and I play games more often than I should, but I never let them get in the way of my real life and I never get upset about them. I hope that you all get the results that you are looking for, it's clear that we see things differently.

    Any response? @Jatheish @Dollie @Evza ??

And so we should be negative of the game, most of us here have been playing since day 1 and the lack of updates is appalling. It might be an early access game but in 1 year you would expect alot more content than what is in the game now. What has been added? A new gun, a crossbow, nothing exciting is it. The thing that angers me the most is Dollie and Jat constantly posting on Twitter "how is everyone enjoying Ark?" "What would you like to see us do next in Ark?" why on earth are they focused on Ark? No idea why they split the dev team if all they can think about is Ark. They are one of the worst devs around who talks a load of **** They can't even stick to a roadmap, supposed to be January when we say some sort of update. Where is this monthly stream they are harping on about all the time? Been to focused counting the money to siphon off to Ark, that will soon run out and they will be crawling back to the community with some sort of apology very soon, you watch "we are sorry for the lack of updates, we have been so busy with other things but we will be more focused on Atlas now" something along those lines, not good enough for me. The community is not daft, they know what they are doing and can't pull the wool over their eyes. Many have left already, they won't be coming back in any hurry.

So it looks like you're an xbox player. Let's see what your opinion is after you've been here over a year, (if you're still around), with few if any helpful or interesting updates, a couple major changes in the wrong direction along with complete wipes, and then the announcement that the next 3 months development will all be focused on bringing some other group of new players online and you'll get a wipe at the end of that. And after they do all that they announce they will be heads down on patches, but they disappear completely and you find out they're not Atlas patches. You may have a different perspective than a bright-eyed newbie at that point. And you should know that they claim to have Community managers and staff whose job is just to, you know, communicate with us. Nobody expects the coders or graphic artists popping in here.

The october 2019 captains log did state that the team would be stepping away from the forum for a while (in a roundabout way) and game development requires money. Ark is probably their best source of money at the moment so working on that makes sense. I can understand players being frustrated but all the negativity doesn't help. Atlas won't attract new players if the existing players keep complaining about it, we need to be patient and understand that it is a work in progress.

Ohhh I remember release day, our server Official 434 had 3 mutual alphas, we were in a big ass stalemate, where whichever one started aggression would incur the wrath of the other 2. Prob like 30 people active in each tribe, SE came out, and each one of us went to a different SE server in a bid to control one for ourselves. That didnt work out so well on 737, so one of the other tribes from 434 asked us for our help on 746, and we fought off a 90 man chinese tribe for like 10 hours for ownership of that server, by that time the 3rd tribe had joined us, and there, we were all one tribe. Home server we were all segregated still until word started trickling down that server transfers were going to be opened completely we merged on both servers. Cuz back in those days you couldnt take anything from The Island to SE, but everything on SE could be taken to The Island, so we used our SE server to raid everyone without consequence, it was beautiful showing up on a server with Wyvs, hordes of raiders, and just wrecking it, and they couldnt retaliate.

People would need to be able to actually play the game to notice the cracks
  29. 1 point
Tbh, Genesis looks ok, but after the hype dies down the cracks will be noticed. The reason ark is and will prob always be a success is the tames. People all over the world are obsessed with pets and tames, especially in games. If you don't believe me, go ask pikachu! Atlas needs to decide whether its an ark game with ships, or a pyrate game with some ark similarities. Cos the popularity of atlas isn't tames, it's the ships. So unless they are gonna keep adding to the ships and sailing in the game, they might as well go back to being an ark dlc, and just add a shed load of new tames.

The schooner and galleon with max speed sail configurations have the same base speed. The galleon wins out because of how weight affects speed. Its much easier to have a galleon under 1/2 weight than a schooner.
