OK, so I have talked with many players, and those who don't want to play, speak about two things keeping them from coming back. #1. 9 hour raid windows, EVERY FREAKIN DAY. That's more than a work shift, where they have to be on, every single day, to protect their work. #2. Imbalance in Company sizes, and some groups still acting as Megas, with their alliances. I know that isn't as much an issue right now, but there is likely to still be imbalances. And WOULD be a problem if many people came back to play. If they don't come back, then what's the point? So if you are a small company, you are just meat to the slaughter, if a large group come after you. What would fix this? Well, I have been playing some Conan. While I like the idea of Atlas more, Conan had some things I really liked. One that would work really well for Atlas, and would likely become the most popular game mode, is PvE-C. The C stands Conflict. Like PvE, the structures can't be damaged. However, just like PvP, you and your tames CAN be killed...during the conflict time. Much like Atlas, there is a window where conflict is allowed, but this game mode only allows it for things other than structures. I think that is what many people wanted. They want to fight with their ships. They don't want to fight against people, over their bases. That (current PvP rules) requires you to be on every night, during the raid times. PvE-C, you would not need to be on every night. Another thing they do, which is also cool, is the Purge. This would give you a reason to still throw up some defenses for your base.

4 others, and you kinda need tames in this game. If you get a good tame in the beginning, even a pig, you can do most treasures already. Leveling up quick and getting a base/ship setup fast. We haven’t actually made a base yet, we’re just roaming around on our galleons. But just for the record, I hate the fact that you need tames. The devs didn’t want tames to play a big role in this game and now they’re the thing you can’t live without. Why not use crew to harvest items for you instead of tames. Guess the dev team has 0 creativity. I think it all stayed at ark’s wildcard if you see all the shit they’ve been doing lately.

So for months Mr know it all who has not played the game but gives advice to those that do, does not really know squat after all.

Title says it all. I may take a break from this next EA edition as it's really hard to justify coming back for a 3rd grind fest for a few new islands and a biome. Maybe we put some effort into making the game feel more alive? One of the most frustrating things is finding a really cool looking NPC structure but it's just a piece of scenery with no ability to interact. You can't go inside at all or do anything with them. What the hell is the point then? Some of these places are put in spots that would be absolutely great to build at too and in this last go around we built a town around an existing small NPC town but even after building it that NPC parts just felt out of place. It would be nice if taverns felt like actual taverns. When you go inside you're greeted with some nice pirate shanty and a beautiful waitress and barkeep who sells grog. Or when you happen upon a farm house there are little NPC kids outside and a farmer and a wife who you can buy vegetables from. Would this be so difficult? I realize that does require quite a bit of work but are there any plans on the horizon to do this?

To Grapeshot: I think you've done this all wrong. While I understand that you want to make 'corrections to issues' before putting up the other grids, did you ever consider that it was not only unfair to pve players to make us wait, but that by not releasing xbox/crossplay at the same time you are potentially just going to have a whole other set of issues to 'patch' after you put the other three grids back up? You're really not saving yourself time, nor saving any hassles for your player-base, whats left of it. I'm a PvE player. Not PvP. I 'get' you LOVE your pvp style, but lets not forget that a good chunk of your players are PvE, and you're just basically crapping on us by catering to PvP only like this. I'm off work today and tomorrow, and instead of being able to get (re) started (x2), I just get to sit here and read forums. I may not be off work again for a good long time, so the chances of me being able to rebuild on the 8th, 9th, 10th.... etc, is sketchy at best. If you want to TRULY make Atlas great, it all starts with how you treat your 'customers'. You canNOT -only- cater to PvP, and blow the PvE people off like this. You could have put up a PvE grid as well. And as far as the Xbox/crossplay goes, what sense does it make to NOT troubleshoot issues with this alongside any for pc, at the same time? None. And now, any console players going to NA PvP will have to contend with PC PvPers who have had a full WEEK to get a head start over them. So not only have you catered to PvP and left PvE to eat dust for an extra week and a half, but you've also just dissed your potential console players, too. Do your customers right: Release Xbox/crossplay NOW, so the PC people don't get any more of a head start than they already have, and for the love of the gods... put up a PvE grid for the rest of us! And just to let anyone reading this know: I'm a PC player. And I'm looking forward to crossplay. More people = more fun! EDIT: I would just like to add that PvP and PvE are very different play-styles. What amendments you make for one might not work for the other. It would make more sense to see this and correct it on two grids now, rather than scramble to fix it on 4, later.

The problem is that if they put Early access on the page where you buy it once (or wherever), that’s all they have to do to avoid the legal liability you’re talking about. They aren’t required to inform you every time they talk about it. As far as why companies are doing this, it’s simple, they’ve found a way to turn what used to be a cost center into a profit center. To them it looks like a no brainier, but there is no free lunch. By charging people for a substandard product, Early Access or no, you negativity impact your game’s reputation in the marketplace, which has harder to quantify but definite consequences.

I think they should get rid of companies altogether and just have factions, put them apart on the map. I don't like the claim system, it is focused towards large companies, not everyone wants to be in large companies, some just like to play with 1 or 2 friends. If there was factions in the game other fellow teammates in the faction could fight the otherside, there would be no need to join companies to attack another. I've never tried to own an island but I know it costs alot of gold, they have made it for large companies to take over and exclude the smaller ones. They should have just gave everyone 1 or 2 claim flags instead of having to have alot of gold to take a whole island. This is the only reason I live on lawless, at least you know you are safe there but we shouldn't have to be on lawless if they got the claim system right. I'm not sure the system will change though, they had to wipe last time, can they change it without another wipe? Who knows but unlikely to happen anytime soon.

its not reasonable not acceptable to ship a unfinished, badly developer, buggy, lacking of content game selling it as if there was nothing wrong with it, just as is not reasonable to and is actually punishable by law to sell something on the internet advertising it as X and then deliverying Y because you never had X to begin with but you need to eat, selling something by providing missleading information is called fraud. as you can see there is never a mention of the game being in early access, they mention a road map but never the development stage of the game, we cannot even call this an alpha, 7 days to die is in Alpha stage and it has 500% more technical polish than atlas, satisfactory is in beta and it has 1000% more technical polish, the only reason videogame companies are pulling this type of cash grabs with no legal repercution is because is more expensive to file a lawsuit than to lose 20 bucks.

is funny how people come to a survival game but want a safe enviroment, this game was actually dangerous when launched, i cant remember how many times i died, but it was challenging and fun, then they made the wild creatures dumb and infected them with alzheimer (they would faint attack you then run away then forget that they even saw you ROFL) and if that was not enough alpha's count was diminished too now Atlas is a boring game with boring land gameplay and boring sea gameplay, like a minecraft without digging, a building/sailing simulator.

My suggestion is for a company To-Do list where members of the company could add items. This would help as members could see things in real time rather than in a separate program like discord. For example, if a company is building a ship, the ship maker could put the amounts of materials needed in a to-do list and check them off as the members collect the resources. It could also contain more long term goals for the company such as obtaining gold for the upkeep. I think it would be beneficial as sometimes it's hard to know what is needed for the company to advance or sustain itself.

I miss predators at all Most Islands have close to non anymore, yet we had One Island we Used to tame Tigers Which always had 20+ in a taming trap. If there Wasnt And Good Levels we threw a Grenade in it. But if there was 1 high Level in it try shoot the others while they running around to keep only the One tiger alive XD

I dunno.... The brig and the galleon feel pretty big. Especially the galleon. I think removing the speed handicaps kills some of the strategy. Should I build a lumbering, slow ship that can haul a city's worth of mats, or a faster attack ship that maneuvers great? Having a ship that can do it all, IMO, is a cop-out and dumbs down the game. If you're worried about losing your slow ship to a whale or SotD or pvp, then protect it with some faster armed ships.
  16. 1 point
Need more weight on ships. They should feel bigger. Cargo racks shouldn't reduce speed, and instead cost lots of mats perhaps.

I understand the devs though process on this. The idea is to have the players build towns, run taverns and hold festivals. The idea is for the players to interact and make the world alive instead of NPCs. The problem of course is that the game mechanics don’t actually allow players to do this!

This is how I see it. PvP players have an entirely different mindset and play-style from PvE players. You could almost say they're psychologically completely different types of human beings. and I 100% agree with @UnknownSystemError when the PvP player says, "Don't like eating shit, just eat the half that isn't covered." Because that statement, in other words, has been said to me by many PvP players, especially recently, since the PvP server is the only one open. PvE player: "Bro, could you not? I'm obviously not fighting back. Just trying to have a good time." PvP player: "bRo, cOUld YoU nOT? Don't like it? Get off the server." You cannot mix the two. It does not, and will not ever work. If it's attempted, players left and right will be breaking verbal abuse rules and reporting other players and nothing will ever get done because you cannot change the internet. Most PvE players are friendly, sharing and helpful. Most PvP players have their guard up 95% of the time because they don't know who is friend or who is foe. On another note, I have played 10+ rented ark servers and 5 or more rented Atlas servers... the PvP is always the same. Trash talk and completely wiping the other tribe/company until they stop trying and stop playing, thus ruining the game for the other side and the community loses yet another player, or more. PvP players have their side of the bed, and PvE players have their side. Leave it alone.

PVE players often want nothing to do with PVP players. They see it as a toxic, immature hateful environement to be in. So you say OK just stay on your side of the map. Then the PVE players says OK only if it exactly as your side of the map. Then the PVP players no that is not acceptable higher risk higher reward - so we want better mats on our side. That means the PVE player now has to deal with PVP by either sneaking into PVP to get the better mats, or paying PVP to get the better mats, or staying on his side with inferior mats. So now you are back to PVE player wanted nothing to do with PVP, but to make a hybrid server work, PVE has to have something to do with PVP. So now it appeals to the few PVE players that want the option to get into a scrap, but they are otherwise safe. Then you have PVP players complaining about others hiding out in the PVE zone (exactly like they complain about freeports now) and they leave for a free for all game And that is where you realize you need the PVE server, then PVP server and the PVPVE server.
  21. 1 point
The only way one whole world could work would be an opt in or out of pvp mode like some games have friendly fire on or off. The problem is that pve players don't want to pvp and you can bet that there would be certain rewards you can only gain through pvp, which means that the pve player is gonna have to venture into hostile territory to get the reward. Some people may think that's fair but a lotta people won't. Also the game started with seperate worlds for pve and pvp so to force them together now after you bought the game just for the pve would be unfair. A merge would be the pve players loss no one elses.
  22. 1 point
Notice that your consequences only go one way ... PvE player travels into PvP land he gets fucked, PvP player travels into PvE land it's business as usual. So you are punishing PvE players for the PvP players enjoyment. Want to make it even? PvP player sails into PvE land then all his cannons/tames/and abilities become unusable against other players and all his door locks are removed for the exact same time as a PvE players base would be become vulnerable if they were to traverse the other way. There a consequence for sailing where you aren't wanted...

It's a ridiculous idea, and it's clear that you've approached this with a pvp mindset lacking the ability to put yourself in anyone else's shoes. As pve players, we have a whole server for claims, exploring, and adventuring. You think it's a good idea that we share that server with all the pvp players so they can all rush over there, grab claims, and hold pissing contests about who ran away from whom in general chat. And you know they'll all want a pve claim. They get the whole world and the choice of pvp or pve. Pve players are not as a group eagerly wanting a choice to pvp. So from our perspective, we don't get to share the whole server without giving up being a pve player. We dont' want claims on the other side. So they get both worlds and we get half. UnknownSystemError was spot on with his analogy. If you are really trying to sell this idea as "a player gets tired of either pvp or pve and wants to go play the other mode", then what you need to be asking for is character transfers, which are already coded into the game. There's no reason to force pve players to put up with having all the pvp players use their server as well as their own, if that's the point of your long, complicated, strange idea with more rules than Calvinball. In the interests of making it crystal clear - The main benefit of playing on a pve server is that there are no pvp players and no pvp happening. Your idea doesn't even recognize that. You should consider that in future suggestions for improving pvp.
  25. 1 point
A pvevp server is a type of pvp server. If it all stays over in pvp land nobody cares. If you put pvp on a server it's no longer a pve server. If they take away the pve servers, the pve people will quit and no pve players will buy the game.
  26. 1 point
No they don't. No it doesn't. It gives pvp players the new option to go to the pve servers, along with lots of new options for where, when and how, they want to pvp. There are no new options for pve players, except forcing them to have pvp happening on the pve servers, along with the inane toxic environment that brings with it, which is not exactly something all the pve players are crying out for. Here's a suggestion - if pvp players want pve areas on their servers, let them start bugging grapeshot for that flavor of pvp. Quit trying to pull unwilling pve players into the scheme. We're fairly free of grief and troll abuse now as it is. We don't want yours, and we don't want to be your fodder either. Leave us out of it.

What is it about PvPer's always wanting to pick on PvEer's? You are ALL like why can't we add a safe zone that isn't really safe to try and trick PvE players to come play with us, because they don't ever put up defenses and it'll be easy for me to troll them? Here is a thought ... reverse your entire fucking mindset. One map, no zones what so ever. Everyone is PvE ... meaning all bases, ships, tames, people ... EVERYTHING is PvE and un-touchable. You want to PvP? Fine, you can toggle an option ... after a 24 hour delay your entire tribe goes active as PvP with everything being vulnerable for one week. The only people you can touch is other people that have flagged PvP, but ALL PvE people can interact with all your crafting stations, chests, boxes, and anything else without repercussions or being flagged themselves for that entire week. Doesn't that sound like more fun? I can stay PvE flagged and raid every PvP base I want without having to worry about your cannons, tribe-mates, or tames ....

Dont read too much into it. For one their own posts show that the numbers were off due to a bug in counting for most of the weekend. The other was the "new car smell" effect. People logged onto pvp to see if there were any changes to the islands they want to go for and to see the new stuff. We had 20 people from our company on this weekend. Played a day, got offline raided, half have noped out till the 8th, the other half are playing on unofficial to fart around till the 8th. Will they get a bump? Sure. But just as quickly those that have came back will leave for the same reasons they left before as the core problems with the game have not changed.

@Jatheish Any chance of a full set of patch notes including what grids were updated with new islands? I've taken a quick look through the servergrids.json from the github and don't see a lot of changes. Mind you it was a casual glance. But looking at L10 for example it still has the 2 same islands within view distance of each other. I get that its a ton of work to create unique islands for every grid, but do copied islands need to be in the same grid?

The structure limit is concerning the amount of load in of structures information to the client from the point of the client. With it they try to limit server load. Every time someone gets close to a bunch of structures the server has to upload that information to the client. This results in 'lag' for everyone, while waiting for this to happen. Best - stupid - thing is in PVP you die and respawn to the beds close to where you died, and have to load in all structures again, and everyone gets a moment of silence while that happens... They played around with the load in in the last few days resulting in bases not all loading in. They lower it now (again without the needed balancing changes to PVP, which current meta NEEDS lots of structures) because the server obviously cannot handle the load even with the few people online, much less with 10k more XBobs... As far as is known the 10k units is not the same as a foundation length. It was 100 foundation in ARK and up until now structure limit range was a felt 100 foundation also - same game engine. 100 Foundation is not yet outside rendering range at high, but the action is normally in 100 foundation range... So a 100 units is foundation length still. They just flat halved the structure limit in the same range. That is a problem for defense building, where structure limit can be seen as minimum for defense. There are ways around it. The structure limit just checks amount of current structure while you want to place a new structure. Ships count towards it - pull them away for placing structure. Also start from the center out. Build to structure limit if needed and then add to the outside as you leave the center and it gets out of count range. Would be so much easier if PVP was balanced and does not need k of structures just to be still not save... Would be also so much easier to just make useful bigger versions of the structures we have - like a 2x2 Wall would reduce walls needed by ~ 75%... That would help the PVE base builder alot also... But no, we get a large wall that is worth 2% of the same surface area as wall structures... but saves 119 walls... But as they did not do in in ARK (where at least the defenses worked) they will not do it here... to much work to add different size structures for years... lag out!

Structure, Tame, and Ship Limit Changes With the launch of the new network, we will be revising the following limits: ship, structure, and tame limits in order to provide players with the optimal experience. The new values are as follows: Maximum amount of structures in a 10k unit radius: 7875 Maximum amount of tames per gridregion: 300 (NOTE: Crew on stations no longer count towards the tame limit) Maximum amount of anchored ships per company per gridregion: 40 Maximum amount of unanchored ships per company per gridregion: 20 @zottel I don't see ANY reference to per company in either the structure or tames limits there, do you ? while they ARE explicitly mentioned for ships. That means they are NOT per company limits, it means they ARE global limits. If you dont know how the structure limits work please dont spread this nonsense, like no one can build in the Grid or on an island anymore because thats just not true. Prove it. What your saying is bullshit. If I drive my gally in front of your cathedral its gonna lose a bunch of pieces ? I never said someone could not build in the grid, show me where I said that. The changes, as stated, are saying EXACTLY what I'm saying and "testing" by Evza or Vodoo means exactly nothing OR the stated changes are not correct / complete. You VERY CAREFULLY sidestep and don't address the change in the building radius. They HALVED the "single" structure limit and increased the radius measurement used to determine whats included in a "single" structure by an order of magnitude. To all intents and purposes a company can have a single base on an island now, and that's best case scenario - as stated there can only be ONE base on an island. Stop being a fanboi and address the stated issues. Also lets have a clear statement on how large a foundation is, is that 1x1 units ? 10x10 units ? 5x5 units ?.
  37. 1 point
This is totally wrong. 1) They said a RADIUS of 10k units, the radius was LESS THAN 1k units before - I know this for a fact because I built a Tortuga breeding base beside our elephant breeding base and both of them were well over 10k structures EACH. The Tortuga base was perhaps 300 units away, and that's being generous. 2) All but the largest islands are LESS THAN 10k units in any direction and the largest ones will allow for perhaps 4 big base's if and ONLY if they are strategically placed. The new griefing meta will be just spam down useless structures in the middle of an island till you hit the limit. It won't even matter if you own the island or not because once the 8k structures are down the island is done and useless to everyone. 3) The ships have never counted to the limit....... /facepalm 4) Its ALWAYS been the tames that cause the real lag, and changing the tame limit per grid is just going to be griefing meta #2, breed a bunch of monkey's or chicken's and now not only is the island useless but the ENTIRE GRID is useless. The dev's clearly ran into the huge problem of the platform (XBOX) simply could not handle the load so their "solution" was to put in these limits - effectively killing the game. I can't believe no one else has figured this out, its plain as day. Say goodbye to your beautiful bases - they simply won't be possible anymore under any circumstances even if you get there first. So that's the builders out. Lets see whats left. 300 tame limit per grid..... well there goes the breeders, see griefing meta #2. So tell us, cause the DEVIL is ALWAYS in the details, what happens when a ship sails into a grid that's at tame limit ? do the tames on the ship just disappear ? what happens when a pregnant tame gives birth on a grid that's at the limit ? does it just not get born ? Then spin up a single PVP server, so all the PVE's that want to play will have to roll there and become farmers "content" for the PVP offline "raiders". 9 hours a day raid offline window...... nothing more needs be said. I, personally, don't think everyone at grapeshit is this stupid....... this goes to intent. 3k hours in the game and done all the content. Its sad really - they had a great idea because almost 60k people bought into it but hard decisions had to be made so they made the totally wrong ones. Was so looking forward to cats.

I think PVE-C sounds like it might be ideally suited for Atlas.
  39. 1 point
The real point is that structure limits shouldn't even be an issue, because the game shouldn't be focused on building monstrous bases. This game should be about getting to sea, and getting off your own island, as much as possible. I am sick of going to an island, just to find pillars and foundations spammed everywhere. This game could learn so much from Conan Exiles In that game, single structures don't last long. About a day. And the more structures you have, the less time between Purges. So, there is an incentive to not spam structures. But then...people still spam structures, so the fix is obvious. Make the structure count even more impactful on the Purge...even shorter time, and more destructive foes...foes that can't be tamed.
