Title says it all. I may take a break from this next EA edition as it's really hard to justify coming back for a 3rd grind fest for a few new islands and a biome. Maybe we put some effort into making the game feel more alive? One of the most frustrating things is finding a really cool looking NPC structure but it's just a piece of scenery with no ability to interact. You can't go inside at all or do anything with them. What the hell is the point then? Some of these places are put in spots that would be absolutely great to build at too and in this last go around we built a town around an existing small NPC town but even after building it that NPC parts just felt out of place. It would be nice if taverns felt like actual taverns. When you go inside you're greeted with some nice pirate shanty and a beautiful waitress and barkeep who sells grog. Or when you happen upon a farm house there are little NPC kids outside and a farmer and a wife who you can buy vegetables from. Would this be so difficult? I realize that does require quite a bit of work but are there any plans on the horizon to do this?

How can they pay us back for being loyal to Oct.8th, when they still working on the code for paying us back from last Wipe. Never trust a company or support a company that cant follow through with what they promised! I

This is AWESOME news! Honestly the best option for the game in current state. For those of you who are complaining about the wipe, turn that frown upside down, buttercups!

Okay Realist I will chime in with my two cents.... Your Discovery point focus is misguided. If this is indeed your goal then you will be a nomad and as a nomad Taming will be completely useless to you! Taming is a very OP skill that's almost a must for anyone who is going to build a base, but with discovery being your primary focus then you won't be building a base. Since you simply going to be sailing in between every island in the game and jumping off the ship to make landfall and then get right back on said ship then you are going to be passing thru hot and cold zones constantly. So I recommend that you invest heavily into fortitude as it will make dealing with the various temperatures easier plus it will help with your constant food issues! Before you start this epic exploration journey your first goal is to build yourself a Schooner not a sloop. The extra Speed the Schooner has will make your goal more viable even if it means you will have to work a bit harder in the beginning to build it and to get the skills to build it.... Otherwise not much else to tell you, just keep your eyes peeled as running aground or colliding with a whale will be your worst enemies (Running aground is far more common in cold areas where the Ice is not marked well if at all on the map! ) Also you may also want to invest in getting yourself some good fur armor in the beginning to help you navigate the arctic. This isn't that hard to do once you figure out the best way to get sap's (Honey, Tree Bark, Sugarcane plants) Sugarcane plants being the easiest depending on the starting zone you pick....

You don't have to rush for DP. It takes time to reach lvl 51, what gives you more time to pretend for the worthy shit. If you're not interested in the ownership of an island, then this could be your roadmap: - Tame a Bear - Build a Schooner. Fast as hell and supports a diving attatchment (gold income) - later build some ballistas on the schooner. That allows you to kill whales and Hydras (25 DP for the first whale and another 30 DP for each powerstone) This is the fastest way to incrase the DP and let you push your level up to 65...75. Lvl 60 is a good state, where you can almost build and wear/use everything in the ground state. But you don't level so fast, if you don't do treasuremaps all the time. Because around lvl 30 it starts to take way longer to lvl up. I played three weeks again on the official servers and was lvl 43 or so with doing a lot of maps, who are the best way to gain xp. Better than killing alphas. To hunt for the DP is never the first thing on the list. This is something you can do beside. And don't waste too much points in fortitude. 20 points is enough for the beginning.

a few humble opinions. if just going for discovery points at first. 1. u want a schooner. its big enough to hold a couple cows and all the basic crafting stations. also, it only requires a small shipyard (brigs require large shipyard). you can drop a small shipyard, build a schooner and be sailing in just a few hours hand harvesting only. 2. put all points into fortitude. the rest wont matter for just getting discovery points. 3. get grappling hooks and learn to pick up flotsam as you go between islands. these drop plenty of food for you and a friend. no need for farming or cooking. flotsam also drop enough gold to sustain a couple npc crew if you dont want to manually use sails. 4. medicine is a pain in the butt and medkits have a spoil timer. you will learn quickly that death is faster and more efficient than trying to heal. 5. for discovery purposes tames are completely worthless. if you want to put a few points to get chickens and cows for fun that is cool but, the rest of the tree is completely worthless for sailing and discovery points. (stupid godang clowny balloon animals). 6. get a sextant asap. it is game changing. 7. have fun and pace yourself. there are LOTS of islands and some have multiple discovery points. for a new player grinding discovery points a few hours each day i would estimate 2-4 weeks to get them all. again. these are my opinions for the purpose of grinding discovery points only. cheers

Ahoy Pathfinders! This Captain’s Log will cover ... nevermind -- we’re too excited, there's much on the horizon to share, so point yer prows hither and let’s get to it. The much-awaited Xbox Launch is imminent. As in, really imminent. Here’s what you need to know: ATLAS will launch into Xbox One’s Game Preview next month. ATLAS will be available for digital download on the 8th of October 2019 It will launch Day One with crossplay support allowing Steam and Xbox to play together in the same gigantic world. Complete re-bindable keyboard and mouse support for Xbox players ensures full game parity and an even playing field for all players Optional single-player and private session modes, which also makes use of the new procedural “Wild Pirate Camp” system There will be simultaneous updates and content pushes for both Xbox and PC ensuring the delivery of the same experience for Pathfinders on both platforms We’re working on getting Unofficial servers setup for Xbox Day One with Nitrado, where cross-platform can be enabled or disabled (in any direction so PC or Xbox player servers only) official network wipe After evaluating our options with the introduction of cross-platform multiplayer and a modified world map, we have decided that the best option to ensure the smoothest possible game experience is that our Official Networks undergo a data wipe on the 28th of September at 12am EST. Following the wipe, we will be permanently relaunching the NA PvP Network in order to iterate on our changes in a live-environment, following that will be the full permanent relaunch of all other networks on the 8th of October with full crossplay support (NA PvP will not wipe again on the 8th). With the upcoming major version launch this Saturday, here’s what players can expect: New world map with improved biome layout (and a new biome type) Over 70 new core island templates, and many polish improvements to existing islands Over 20 new cosmetics, and sail cosmetics Improved client and server performance Full Gamepad support "Wild Pirate Camps" option for singleplayer and non-dedicated sessions (enabled by default): take over each island across the ATLAS by attacking and claiming procedural enemy pirate camps, guarded by cannons, pirates wielding all sorts of weapons, and even powerful pirate ships! New Multi-shot Hydra Pistol Cats (with hats!) We have some more notes to come, which we’ll be sharing in full on Friday. We have opted for a rolling start in order to facilitate the best experience possible for all players on PC and Xbox. Beginning with this sole network allows us to monitor performance, make any technical adjustments necessary and resolve issues prior to the full Crossplay rollout on the 8th of October. Our decision to wipe the Networks was not made lightly and involved much deliberation and factoring in of technical aspects and the impact on our current PC players. We have made big changes to the game under the hood, revamped the world map with the addition of over 70 new, unique island templates, as well as some considerable optimization changes and limits put in place which required a full data wipe. After these sets of changes, we do not plan to wipe the network again, even with the introduction of additional platforms and new areas & islands further down our development timeline. We value and appreciate the time spent on the game and the only reason we carry out these wipes is after exhausting all possible alternatives and when they become a necessity. We truly appreciate all the support and feedback you’ve given us over the last few months and we’re excited to welcome new (as well as old) players onto the ATLAS! Structure, Tame, and Ship Limit Changes With the launch of the new network, we will be revising the following limits: ship, structure, and tame limits in order to provide players with the optimal experience. The new values are as follows: Maximum amount of structures in a 10k unit radius: 7875 Maximum amount of tames per company per gridregion: 300 (NOTE: Crew on stations no longer count towards the tame limit) Maximum amount of anchored ships per company per gridregion: 40 Maximum amount of unanchored ships per company per gridregion: 20 On The Horizon If you’re new to the ATLAS, you can cast yer one good eye over our Roadmap here: It’s important to note that this roadmap is not fully inclusive: we have a lot of other plans, content, and surprises in store for you all. We’ll be sharing more details with you as we go along. ServerGridEditor and Legacy Saves We’ve just uploaded the latest changes to our GitHub, this includes the latest json, new islands, and our updated WGE, so server owners can dive in and start making the necessary changes for the upcoming launch. It’s important to note that any savefile which used our older islands previously may have unpredictable issues after this update has been released, due to the level/technical changes that were made. We’d recommend wiping your saved data if you either used our jsons, or used our islands. For those playing on Blackwood specific saves, your data should be intact as well as those of you with completely custom islands. OK, so I have talked with many players, and those who don't want to play, speak about two things keeping them from coming back. #1. 9 hour raid windows, EVERY FREAKIN DAY. That's more than a work shift, where they have to be on, every single day, to protect their work. #2. Imbalance in Company sizes, and some groups still acting as Megas, with their alliances. I know that isn't as much an issue right now, but there is likely to still be imbalances. And WOULD be a problem if many people came back to play. If they don't come back, then what's the point? So if you are a small company, you are just meat to the slaughter, if a large group come after you. What would fix this? Well, I have been playing some Conan. While I like the idea of Atlas more, Conan had some things I really liked. One that would work really well for Atlas, and would likely become the most popular game mode, is PvE-C. The C stands Conflict. Like PvE, the structures can't be damaged. However, just like PvP, you and your tames CAN be killed...during the conflict time. Much like Atlas, there is a window where conflict is allowed, but this game mode only allows it for things other than structures. I think that is what many people wanted. They want to fight with their ships. They don't want to fight against people, over their bases. That (current PvP rules) requires you to be on every night, during the raid times. PvE-C, you would not need to be on every night. Another thing they do, which is also cool, is the Purge. This would give you a reason to still throw up some defenses for your base.

We couldnt finish the game back then at the release, cause we struggled to find a piece of land to settle, so I sugges that we are missing on A LOT OF CONTENT even from basic game. Since then few big patches came out and they even added something new to the game. Is there some sort of recap of what returning players for season 3 can expect in the game? Cool new dungeons? Cool old dungeons? New buildings? Ships? Maybe there is a video about it? I couldnt find it What do I show my friends to tell that we are going to do this and its going to be fun? I couldnt pursue them that cat taming is #1 thing Please keep the "Expect tons of lags" or "Expect dead gaem" or whatever other flame for the game to yourself. I know about it. Tell me about content Im missing on, what is there left or new to do.

The lag, and optimisation, is nearly getting there, it's not laggy at all compared to how it was. 20+ ships can fight each other and not lag too bad, is what I hear. That could change with the new version though. I think boomer missed crossbows, and some other things. Otherwise, that's not a bad list. I don't know if it's a struggle to find stuff to do, if you are still at the stage of trying to settle and make a base on a island or reach end game. Reaching end game is fun, I guess, It's just a bit too shallow of an experience (fix/keep working on your game, devs!) but I think someone would still be able to make a nice video about it to show your friends. Oh, there is a new building called the silo which can be used on a claimed island, and will pay and feed NPCs on that island. And cargo racks? They are OK.
  17. 1 point
Well if that the case? Guess I will build 7875 large stone wall base then

Here’s the thing, the game actually hasn’t had much new content since launch. There’s an ice dungeon. That’s pretty much it for new dungeons. There’s a new underwater trench. There will be new island templates. That’s it for new explorable areas. They added a submarine that you have to defeat the Kraken to unlock. That’s it for new ships. They will be adding a new hydra six shot pistol. That’s it for new gear. The following creatures have been added: Cats Giant turtles Giant Squids Seahorses Some weird thing with a funny nose that holds water, Olfend I think it’s called. Yup, that’s pretty much it. 9 months in and that’s pretty much all that’s new since you left. If you come back your chances of finding a place will improve. Just can’t honestly tell you there will be much new to do once you’ve done that.

Tame times are good, I tame stuff just for fun quite often. The only animal that can be annoying to tame is the giraffe. They are ornery. That's why it's just so annoying that the breeding is EXACTLY the fucking same, except they added further annoyance with the temp/biome requirements. The temp/biome requirements are good in theory, but just not when used with the copy paste from ark. What about brontos? I remember taming a quetz for the 8 hours or whatever it was, in mid-air using a friend's quetz, and I fell asleep at the keyboard. I woke up the next day, my eyes start focusing on the scene displayed on my monitor, I think I can see my character (somehow alive) standing next to a dead quetz on the ground, then the vague memory of seeing the taming was 99% done, and relaxing because I thought yay I made it, shuffled around in my brain.

I think the intentions, and this is an opinion. They may just be doing it this way, to iron out any issues that they may have with the upcoming server/update. This makes complete sense to me. They need to test and set up things on a mega sized server and make sure its running properly. I think being behind a little is better than having the launch like we did on the pc. Also, This will de-load the soon to be flooding freeports. There isn't really a great option of doing this wipe if you asked me this is the best way to do it.
  25. 1 point
I think you misinterpret the situation... It doesnt matter wether PC has a headstart or not, you are paying money for an EARLY ACCESS PORT TO CONSOLE. If you spent the time to come here and complain you could have spent some time to educate yourself on these DEVELOPERS and their history of poor decision making, lack of follow through and said to yourself; "Gosh this is probably a bad idea, like that hooker back in cancun, acne and the smell aside financially it was a pretty good deal until it wasnt, because I didnt see the warning signs, and now I have a really bad itch..." That's where you're at right now sweetheart. How dare you have the audacity to come here, he who has not been scorned multiple times by these Devs and even pretend to have a problem!

I second this. There are some great points that have been made here. I like the idea of new beginnings and starting new but will miss all that I have accomplished since the last wipe. When is ea going to end or does it go on forever? Just joking Why cant we keep our levels, skills and discovery points going into the new map? How is it fair and balanced for console players that pc players get a 10 day head start ? How about another wipe on pvp after 10 days. Why do the pve players have to wait till the 8th to play? More bugs to work out idk. Same playbook as last wipe . Sure they have addressed some fixes but what about ALL the other bugs that all of us have lived with? I always believed it should be before new stuff fix the old stuff. Why cant we have WPE on the official servers. It made sense without a wipe but now ?? It would add so much to the game play. No choice except to wait and see. I

@Realist, when you say you want ALL discovery points, you really have no idea the scope of what you're saying. I wish you luck. If you do it before the cows come home, I'll be impressed. Hell I'll even make it interesting. If you can get ALL of the discovery points in under 1000 hours of playing time, I'll personally watch @PeglegTheAngry eat a handful of live bees. He's already angry. How much difference can it really make? He'll be fine. Probably.

As someone who has been here since day one, I have to say that while I give less than a wet noodle about Xbox players having this mythical level playing field they think they are entitled to, if they are going to do a wipe at all, they might as well have given you that. Wiping and giving PC players a head start seems like someone sat down in a conference room and said "Okay, we have two options here, either one will piss off some group. But let's not limit ourselves people. Come on, think outside the box! There's gotta be a way we can piss BOTH groups off at the same time." Welcome to the club, here's your gripe with GrapeCard™ scorecard. Please note the numbers go pretty high. Actually, give me that one back, mine is full and scribbled in the margins. We'll get you new ones Soon™ Have a hat while you wait.

I'm sad that I have to agree with that comment. I've been thinking about it, and I think there's probably a pretty good probablility that they intended to wipe all along and were just stringing everyone along with the "if techincal reasons" bit. Here's why I think that. If you look at how this game is set up, there are 4 official "servers", each comprised of 225 actual servers. That's 900 servers. Last week they said they were so busy getting ready for xbox and working on the PTR that they weren't going to turn on magic mythos. That seemed pretty weird to me, so I've been thinking about that. How busy do you have to be to not be able to run a script to flip 2x on some of the multipliers on the servers? This leads me to wonder if they are even using scripts to manage 900 servers. If not, it explains an awful lot, including why they can't preserve player data and inventory at least, or mitigate a landscape wipe in any other way - because someone would have to log onto 900 servers to do that. So sure, I could be wrong on that because I haven't got root privileges on those boxes, but it's something that makes you go hmmm.... If that's not the case then one of two things happened - they either decided to wipe to boost the marketing effort for xbox, or they really did decide to just rearrange all the islands for no great player benefit and wipe everyone out really for nothing at all. None of those is good.

It sucks because this wipe isnt adding anything of value to the game aside from a the new map. Which isnt going to make the game feel any better I quit this game a couple weeks after the first wipe and came back to see what was up a few days ago and it's literally indistinguishable from the game I left. Zero progress and the road map promises nothing more then the same. On top of that grapeshot gave small companies a huge middle finger by blatantly refusing to improve the experience for small companies and solo players and instead doing the exact opposite shoving them off towards private server. I'd bet 90% of the X-Box crowd leaves after 2 weeks. I mean it happened on PC what makes anyone think the same game is going to do better on x-box were players disadvantaged and generally more casual? Its not salt it's the truth. There is absolutely no reason to believe this game will recover as it continues in this direction.

You sound like someone who should wait until the game is actually launched....in other words, after development is over. They are still developing features, tweaking, and optimizing...wipes will happen. If you don't like that....wait for launch.

Hey guys i thought I'd give you some info on the ptr. They have moved powerstone islands and freeports, there is about 500 more discoveries. Pirate encampments are in the game but are suprisingly pirateless. You crash 4 out of 5 grid swaps which almost cost me a galleon. They have added tutorials with video and audio to them. Change of fonts for more legible reading. The whole graphical design of the game seems to have improved with added textures and better looking seas. Cats are at freeports and take milk or fish to tame, they can hunt rodents bugs (gives keratinoid) and fish. I haven't been able to get to a trench yet so im unsure about sea horses. All in all the look of the game is alot better and i enjoy the new look. I would have loved to see pirates at the encampments to test that all out. Cats are a good addition if your looking for keratins easily (haven't got the to be able to get fish yet) i cannot say if this is going to bring people back to the game or not but it does look better in alot of ways.
