Appreciate the positivity! I love the ships in general and (yes, even though it needs to be hit with our upcoming balance changes) I think ship PvP combat can be really enjoyable. I even like listening to the ship-related sound effects and visualising the talented Watson Wu and his team clambering about on a 1812 replica ship to record them: I really enjoy the creative builds you guys create. I've seen Tahitian marina, castles, taverns, hanging gardens, skull forts, Red Wedding halls...along with intricate sail and ship designs. The Aurora Borealis is really ambient. Waveworks gives a cool effect to the ocean, I know the guys spent a lot of time on that. Our level designers excelled themselves, I'm blown away by some of the points of interest, statues, and ruins are just amazing. The great hall in the Polar Dungeon is a place I hung out in whilst doing QA on that patch. There are also uwotm8 moments with the level designers. Case in point : Iso's Blackwoods map is just beautiful in general. She has a real eye for aesthetics. Hmmm oh and I like the derpy expressions on Crew's faces at times. I love working with my talented and technically ambitious team and acting as the human shield for them at times haha. I also appreciate the passionate Community. Most of the harshest critique comes from a place of being invested in the progress of the game and I filter it through that understanding. Acting as an advocate and voice for the Community in meetings whilst also supporting the team internally brings a sense of accomplishment.

I enjoy playing atlas, I start writing about why and then hours later I have to delete the whole thing because I'm not sure I can make a post within reasonable time that details why. There really is so many things that are enjoyable about the game. Things like the ocean, weather effects, sounds, cuteness of baby bears, do indeed show talent and passion from the team. These things that we can see the passion in, they nearly spoil us, and can nearly make it so that nothing else is ever good enough. I'm not really sure why it is that it appears that you should feel guilty for playing the game, the criticisms are mostly pvp balance, lack of content and player count. I think it's just the vibe. If there is still people enjoying the game for the same reasons that they started to enjoy it for, then surely there has always been a good game there to play, and it's just some people don't happen to play/somehow give you that vibe. I also enjoy reading posts about atlas. I started playing in December, and have only taken a break for a few weeks before the wipe. I kept playing PVP for a few weeks after the wipe, and then due to time concerns (and balancing) I started playing solo PVE so that I could do the content and roleplay while making my own missions. I am about 75% of the way through the missions that I had set for myself, have nearly all the quests done, so also getting there with the content. I enjoyed getting the 4 powerstones I have so far, building all the ships, taming all the animals. most of the time that was spent sailing around for 1000s of hours on missions. Things that I enjoy about atlas: - sailing* - the atmosphere and game world - anything to do with ships, mostly the building and combat, but i do like diving for treasure and stuff that makes me feel like its a real ship - pirate rp'ing (I need to go replay Secret of Monkey Island very soon. Hehe) - trading and breeding animals - building bases and pirate hideaways - trading, hoarding and grinding rare mats - treasure!! - making missions for myself and exploring, while pondering about the possible game story, balance and content that could be added, as I do all of the above *there does become a point where it gets tedious, but this game nearly is actually able to be a microsoft flight simulator, and sailing can be fun just for the simulation factor. I would really like to see the sailing logistics stay how they are but also become not tedious. Just need more things to do while sailing maybe. At the moment, I just do maintenance, as I can't commit to breeding more animals, and I've got quite a bit of maintenance to do. I still enjoy the maintenance, however, running around farming meat and sailing around for gold while meeting people is fun. The game just needs to be worked on further is all, that's why I enjoy atlas really.

Tbh atlas is more or less in a standby Modus atm. Many People Dont even Care Wether there will be a wipe or Not.They just waiting for the answer And then Act accordingly. If there will be a wipe they wait for it to happen And if Not they continue playing. Idm Either way,i just wanna See interesting threads again And Not 500 discussions of wipe And why And why Not

I enjoy having enough freedom in building and ship designs to make things that are truly unique and efficient. I enjoy how much wilderness there is to be found. Exploring the bigger islands really makes me feel like a Conquistador. I enjoy how adorable you made the baby pets look. Your team could have just made small bears using the same model and called it a day, but you went the extra mile. I enjoy the ambient sounds of the boat and jungles.

Thanks @Dollie for sharing that video of how the sounds for ships were recorded from an actual sailing ship especially for the game. That's really cool.

I love how dynamic, and how complex, the ingame items and pvp gets. The ship combat is awesome. I love out thinking your enemy, and just thinking up meta pvp ship designs. Theres a sort of "science" that develops from it.

Btw I forgot to thank Whitehawk for starting this thread. I'm in favor of anything that is positive, even a few days after I've leveled some of my strongest criticisms at the game. It's easy to fall into a negative mindset especially with a game doing poorly, but for the most part we wouldn't be here if we didn't care about the game, and we only care because at some point, it let us have fun. I have enjoyed many fun hours with friends playing Atlas so far, probably I liked going on expeditions to the north to gather metal etc the most, or going out hunting SOTD's.

Less tedious absolutely, but if the larger pieces retain the same functionality (snap points), then the benefit to performance will be pretty small. For a 4x4, the underlying geometry can be simpler, but vertices are pretty cheap. To retain the snap points, there would still need to be the same number of bones with rotations and positional offsets. For texture, you could either tile the 1x1 texture 16 times across the object, create a monster texture 16x as large, or reduce the level of detail on the texture, which will look pretty bad next to a full-res tile. One of those is best for instancing, one is best for streaming, and one is better for memory, but they all hit specific hardware harder (RAM, CPU, GPU, or network bandwidth) The only thing that would significantly improve performance would be reducing resolution on the textures, or reducing the number of snap points on larger objects.

45 was just an arbitrary number I picked, but what do we class as a good island? 1, something that doesn’t cost too much (sure, let’s say up to 46) to maintain. 2, somewhere I can grow the crops we want to cook with. 3, somewhere on the boundary between a few biomes to mix up the resources within a couple of grids 4, somewhere that doesn’t consist of mostly 500ft rock pillars with no level(ish) land 5, somewhere that numbskulls can’t pillar spam us into a slideshow! (Not lawless) I know we’re being picky here, but that’s what we’re hunting for and so far it’s been slim pickings, although we’ve stacked up the discovery points looking And i stand by my point, I don’t know if there will or there won’t be a wipe, and reading between the lines and arguing the points is futile, but would I be against it if it happened? Not at all. I have a list of about 15 islands we’ll be gunning for if there is and sure, I’d like the devs to know what we’re thinking. Hell, I’d even be in favor of them polling the community to see what we think.

Well, I disagree with some of eeeceee's response to you, and I'm no fan of the current claim system. The current claim system means that it's impossible for *everyone* to have a claim, and the devs intend that some of the players are going to be settlers on someone else's claim. A wipe wont' fix this, that's just musical chairs. Having said that, I think it's funny that only someone who hasn't played the game has liked your comment, and eeeceee has fallen into the trap of assuming that what you say is true, while my first reaction was "How can that be true with such a small server population?" So I went into the game and had a look at the Atlas. First, with a company of 4, I'm not sure why you set yourselves up with a restriction of of sub 45, because there are islands at 46 points, just one point above that. One point is a meaningless distinction. (You also have many more points to use, so even 46pts. is kind of a low bar). So, looking at the Atlas quickly, here are the claimable islands I found. (I tried to exclude freeports, lawless and other unclaimable areas without spending a ton of time on this, so you may find one or two errors) A - 1, 3, 13, 14, 15 B- 1,2,3,9,15 C - 1 D - 1, 15 E - 1,2,6, 14, 15 F - 1,5,6,11,15 G - 1,12,15 H - 1,5,9,15 I - 8,12,14,15 J - 4,5,6,11,12,13 K - 6,7,10,11 N-1 O-12 Some people complain about polar, so I highlighted all that aren't in polar zones. It looks like there are a decent amount to claim, and there's probably not a good reason to bump yourself up to the 53 pt level and add even more to the list. It would be funny if you claimed an island on this list after looking fruitlessly for so long, only to see the devs announce a wipe because someone else also wants to play musical chairs with them. As for Realist egging you on, you should know you have a better chance of claiming land now with a low server population than you would during a new start land rush. Until and unless they change the claim system again, this is what we get.

I’m playing on NA PvE and I’m expecting a wipe, and frankly, bring it on. I’m not taking any sides in this debate of if there will or if there won’t, but I’m for it, my little group and I (4 of us) have been sailing around and around looking for a half decent sub 45 island to claim for over a month. Sure some things are decaying, but I can still see clans owning several islands spread throughout the map. I think it would be more than unfair to introduce console players into a map with little but scraps, cast offs and the unwanted islands with little to offer being available. Of course they could always live in lawless until some numbskull comes along and surrounds their base with pillars and buoys until they get frustrated and leave... oh wait, that was us...

The only thing that's clear from that statement is that they are talking about technical issues driving the decision, not, as previously stated, wiping old players simply for the benefit of new players. As for the OP, and the forum posters that have contributed to his misconception, I'm sure if I had the time I could go back and pull many many quotes from a few people stating authoritatively that the servers would be wiped, as though they possesed inside knowledge of that. I'm suprised no one's broken an ankle with all that backpedaling going on.

i will only come back if they wipe when consoles release, and i know hundreds of others will come, and for the xbox players irs also a must to do a relaunch when it goes live.

Hey dude you know what, that has never in the history of failed games, saved any of those piles of garbage from death. Denying there are problems or sweeping them under the rug only ushers in death faster by not resolving the issues. If you are going to have an open forum, then you have to have the good and the bad, and if the signs point towards mostly bad, then it ought to be addressed by looking at the common complaints of the game and actually addressing them instead of focusing on things no one wants and never asked for, which is a tradition from ARK that has carried over to ATLAS.

Still playing, still enjoying it. The storms may seem a bit silly in their implimentation, but when sailing though one I always go into first person mode and battle the storm from behind the wheel. Not being able to sometimes turn the ship as the seas are pushing against you, spouts dropping from the skies to be avoided, the waves getting so high they block your view ahead, that is a lot of fun and if you do it well its a good boost to your progress with the strong winds.

Public Test Realm Update It's time for us to bring down the PTR in order to iterate on new builds internally. In a few hours the PTR will no longer be accesible to players. Thank you to all of you whom helped us run it through its paces, bug reported and gave feedback on new content and systems. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and will directly benefit the quality of the upcoming Mega Patch. Cheers! Grapeshot Games

Used to, now they dont though they will only shoot 30 foundations away with the cannon on high range, so placing them higher effectively reduces their range. I'm hoping after they do more optimisation they'll change it back to higher up gives more range again

This is something they need to fix for their stated goal of making this a pirate game. Pirating means melee/ranged attacks on pirates guarding the treasure. Archer attacks on your skeleton archer opponents, followed by the hand to hand battle is very much part of pirate fantasy. If tames are the only way or best way to do something, then this is not a pirate game, this should not be ARK2.0
