At risk of getting perilously close to "speed up sailing", I think a nice replacement suggestion for the currently broken mechanic on Speed Sails would be something to mitigate the slowdown associated with low winds. Something where a perfect +200% speed sail would have no slowdown in terrible winds, and a +150% would only see half the current slowdown. I wish I could take credit for the suggestion, but somebody else thought of it before me. I think the real boredom kicks in when some people have to sail really far (7+ zones), but there are only a couple good reasons to do that: Whaling (if your base is equatorial), High Level Maps, and resources. I think Whaling is fine as it is, both a benefit and risk associated with polar life. I also think that resource distribution is fine as is, scarcity is the bread and butter of other trading games like EVE online, so really maps is the one place that could get some love. Two ideas to improve maps: Make them chain - Instead of always having every masterwork send you 8 zones of pure boredom away, have it send you up to 2 zones for a lesser treasure with an additional reward of the next map up the difficulty chain to the grand prize. Map quality could simply be an indicator of how many links there are built into the map chain, and boosted maps always add one more link to the chain, and always end on a Golden Age Ruin. Make maps last A LOT longer on activated merchant shops so that enterprising map hunters could make a reasonable living just hunting maps, shipping them afar, and selling them closer to the region they could be used. This idea would probably be mutually exclusive with the above idea about map chains, since it would eliminate far maps.

I'd like to see bonuses to being actively at he helm and leaning the boat while follwing the drafts. Tradewinds. Please god... Tradewinds. More weather conditions, less fog, less cyclones when they appear. Some sort of bouns-speed/sail angle minigame. Ship upgrades such as beaching keels, raming bows, armor plating. OARS FOR THE LOVE OF OATS, OARS. Unoccupied crew also move freely around the ship, doing tasks like fishing, and repairing the ship. Just to make the ship seem less dead. Option to select a destination and have a crew member at the helm sail there instead, allowing me to freely move about the ship doing repairs and fishing. Crows nest slot for an NPC holding a spyglass. Reduces fog and marks targets.

I have come back after the wipe, i and my team members were dismayed to find that we couldn't damage or kill the army of the damned. after some searching we found AoD are now immune to anything except gun (non-puckle), melee damage and tame damage. why do this? this has turned a fun battle where we would scout the terrain, use tactics and alternate weapons/firepower/traps into a simple battle of might. if you dont have an army of bears or super duper gear you are doomed to a cycle of death-reaquip-death. its very nearly a deal breaker for us, it takes fun out of the game puckle guns are pretty much useless now, and the only time we can use the fun stuff is for boss battles? without the means of practice? i can see now why people do naked death runs to the fountain of youth. could someone please tell us the devs reasoning for doing this? if someone in power reads this please consider changing it back for the pve servers

So I'm reading a thread on Atlas Reddit filled with all the cryin' souls that just watched the live stream. Blah, Blah, Yada, Yada, you know, same ol stuff different week. Regardless, I come across the following post .... "The stream was basic at best, and the reason again as i stated above is because Dollie and Jat came on to discord voice and gave us the details that should have been in stream not discord voice. Instead of answering questions about cosmetics they should have answered questions like Dollie and Jat did that the majority cared about." Easily raised my eyebrow and thought to myself "What the F#%k". Again .... per usual .... per GS historical norm .... there are information channels that seem to get treated substantially differently than others. If you are not in the right one, you are SOL. So I'm kinda pissy and my son comes in and says "What's up?" I explain to him the separation of information and he just nods and doesn't really say much (Usual response is "I can't believe your still playing that game."). However, on his way out he does say "Forums are for old people, dad." What? What does that even mean? Apparently the general consensus "IS" discord and twitter for gaming info .... at least in his world. So I thought about this as I really don't care for either to be honest, it does make sense. I see the live stream dev panel and I would call all of them young(er). An argument could be made about all info channels should receive the same information, but, I'm trying to stay away from that for the moment. I'm sure that is where this will devolve though. Secondarily, I do not know for certain if Jat and Dollie in discord voice even happened. Seeing as I am an old(er) person (50), my question is .... if you are reading this, are you an old person? Is this forum just filled with edgy curmudgeons shaking their walking sticks at the monitors?

Small Quality of Life suggestion. Make bookshelves like the Mess Table. They extend or stop the spoiltime of Maps. Cheers.

Hello, I am fairly new to Atlas, my buddies and I started this high-seas adventure about a month ago. In that time we were having a blast and were under the impression that this game is having a bright future despite its current population crisis. When I have heard the news about the new lead designer I was all hyped up. I was waiting for the upcoming dev stream like crazy - after all, you have marketed this stream as if it was the Second Coming of Jesus. I was feeling the incoming "wind of change" to the point I have decided to participate in the forum thread collecting questions from the player base, in that thread it was the first time I realized how many issues this game has and I saw some real, constructive and important questions being asked there - for sure they will make it to Wednesday's Stream, after all the new lead designer would be reason enough to touch on the current state of the game. "THE Stream" finally happened and my naive hope for this project going "full speed ahead" died along with it. Seriously, last time I have seen such a question-dodging non-answer vague dev stream was in the early Elder Scrolls Online days and that nearly killed the game (but Zenimax Online Studios has a massive financial backing and tons of developers on payroll so they eventually recovered, I sincerely doubt you guys have such resources). You know that situation when you are working at a corporate office, and they force you to do some bullshit presentation meeting or you will be excluded from "Granola Fridays" for a month? So you come up with some bullshit pie-chart about "Vertical integration of best collaborative practices" or some other non-topic nobody cares about? This is what this dev stream was. I work at a software company and I know it is sometimes very hard to come up with a meaningful developer stream, but doing a pre-recorded dev stream with a new lead designer that announced big changes and then filling it with pie charts, "maybes" and "we are thinking about it" was honestly disrespectful towards your backers. Forum topic (you have marketed heavily) was filled with some genuine questions yet you have ignored the issues completely. From what I have gathered from the game chat, discords etc. people do not bother to log-in to the game as they have no idea if the servers will be wiped or not. I'm a new player, I have just started and I have no business to hope for a wipe as I have not experienced the game fully yet, but the "wipe or no wipe" question seems to be tearing whatever is left of your community apart. You announce "big changes" (altho we still have no idea what those changes will be as you have talked about them so vaguely Todd Howard would be proud) but refuse to specify what those changes will be and you have left all the possible, heavily requested, content information in a realm of speculation. You also announce Xbox cross-play yet you do not touch on the wipe issue The stream had over one thousand viewers, the chat was nothing else but a wall of people asking about any information regarding the wipe, yet you have ignored it completely with this pre-recorded nonsense and chose to answer questions about cat whiskers and color palettes - if I was a veteran player I would feel insulted. Do you guys have such high hopes for your Xbox launch you believe you can ignore the current players? Cause it sure looks like that and let me tell you - with that attitude whatever player base you will accumulate through the console launch won't last for long. After watching this stream I am on a crossroads, I am not sure if I want to continue playing a project with no vision and with such poor communication, at this point I think even Fallout 76 does a better job at managing their community and I never thought it was possible to be worse. It seems that your Galleon is sinking and all you have is medium planks.

This is something they need to fix for their stated goal of making this a pirate game. Pirating means melee/ranged attacks on pirates guarding the treasure. Archer attacks on your skeleton archer opponents, followed by the hand to hand battle is very much part of pirate fantasy. If tames are the only way or best way to do something, then this is not a pirate game, this should not be ARK2.0

Can't do ANYTHING in life on your own? Like what? I can do anything I want to, alone. Solo play cannot be penalized, it is a perfectly acceptable way to play, even in a MMO. Good thread, @Boomernoncannon. Definitely no warp speed sailing, I've made my opinions clear on this before. Currents, trade winds? I can't see an issue with that. As was said earlier, the expanse of the game is a core parr of it, don't take that away. I'm one of those that is fine with the sailing. There is no need to sail more than 4 or 5 zones except by choice. For whales or for maps. All resources can be found within 4 or 5 zones, except for some, Ironwood for example. I feel this is and was designed to be a more hardcore game. Not a game of instant gratification.

I'm just saying as in life you cant do ANYTHING on your own. You have to work with others. so having some mindless NPC take over vital roles in sailing. doesn't seem intuitive to me. And as you said there are a ton of roles when it comes to sailing but most of them are indeed boring. But a good game designer would know how to make games more engaging and fun.

the animals you tame with love, affection and sometimes with a little hard. Tame them in the way this game does what it does is that the animal obey you for fear and when an animal is afraid it can kill and betray you. in other words it makes no sense the way to tame in the game is difficult and every time I have to do it I prefer not to play the game to have to go through the process of garbage tame system

I'd like to see more variance in the open water environment that's not just islands. For example, in the tropics - more small sandy islands/atols to explore. In the south - things like icebergs. I'd like to see ruined forts to explore - or those populated with pirate npcs that require clearing.. Dynamic shipwrecks that haven't yet submerged and have keeled over - possibly in the process of sinking. More by way of NPC ships that are non combatative including an improved merchant ship, or possibly a merchant ship that's being guarded by several friendly npc ships where you can get good loot but have to deal with the escorts. I'd like to see way more variety of sealife - including more very large creature types. Things like seals, schooling dolphins, giant turtles, giant squids/octopus (but not neccessarily aggressive), different varieties of whale, different varieties of seabirds like albatross which can be hunted for buffs/risk of curses. NPC submarines which may either attack or flee underwater in which case you can chase them in your own submarine. Stranded sailors in life rafts being rescuable and returned to a freeport/base for reward. Pirate ships - or perhaps pirate ships fighting other npc ships where you can become involved on either side. More by way of air options for transport such as zepplins, or small scouting zepplins usable from the ship. Perhaps docking stations on ship masts to interact with player zepps. I'd like to see much more wave variety - from giant waves and storms that dont automatically mean cyclones (which i find very annoying ingame). Random whirlpool encounters, giant megalodon encounters etc. Patches of 'magic water (i know i know) that when sailed through drastically improve speed - maybe mermaid spew has speed boosting properties. Water in tropical areas that's crystal clear blue and beautiful and full of tropical fish and coral reefs, where exploring in better scuba gear is a thing. Literally anything that adds life, personality and interest to the water - it doesnt always neccessarily have to be a game mechanic. Having diversity and interesting water biomes by itself makes the game much more enjoyable to be in.

A submarine which you Need to explore the Deep Sea trenches, which looking stunning. Many Performance patches which atleast improved my fps Quite alot. Change to claim System Which i like, because a Company now claims a whole Island but you can still Build where you Want. Taxes Dont reduce what you Harvest anymore but rather add it to the Bank as a Bonus kinda. We have harpoon guns And crossbows. Sotds are now Schoners brigs And galleons.

Yes I'm old too, 52. But most of all I've been managing my own business for over 24 years now and I'm flabbergasted that this kind of thread needs to exist. Why the hell we - as your customers need to teach and explain to you how to do your job and how not to piss off your customers? We need to tell you that we like to know that you read our posts on your official forums and hear out our problems? Really? We need to tell you that you should react somehow - even only by emoticon or post that says "I've noted this"? Really? We need to tell you that when your March update turns into May update or beyond that you need to inform your customers about that swiftly and not just hide and be silent and hope that no one notices? Really? You've done piss poor job communicating with your customers, in fact if I would have as incompetent personnel as you appear to be I would fire their ass so hard and fast that they would not find it even with a telescope.

they said in the roadmap they will start fixing shit when xbox releases, so they might be more lucky than us, it seems than in the current videogame industry buying EA games is now synonym of cash grab scam, so i am never ever gonna buy an EA again, i hope they are proud of it.

in my opinion the stream had its ups and downs, it was clearly an upgrade from the improvised and lack of thematic past streams, we went from a normal room with jack drinking wisky on the background to a pirate room set up in accordance to the thematic. that being said the fact that they prerecorded the whole thing was a mistake, as well as the fact that as you mentioned they havent fixed any of the current atlas problems in a very long time and just as you i feel insulted by the fact that they stoped working on pc to focus on xbox. however at least now they have been honest and i am pretty sure that honesty comes by the hand of the new lead designer, however honesty hurts sometimes and they are 100% responsible for that so i am kinda happy that now i can let go instead of being there sitting eternally waiting for an answer that would have never come otherwise
  20. 1 point
its in the very exact same state as when you left, they have spent the last 6 months coding the xbox release of atlas, so aside of new content they wanted to be ready for the xbox launch the rest of the problems are all there, like ALL of them.

I learned many years ago to eat in a busy restaurant not an empty one. If certain areas of your game are getting more play or attention then they are the areas you should be expanding on, not the areas that are less used. People aren't mice to be led this way then that way at your bidding, and even though I enjoy your game as many others do If I felt that I was being forced down a path I didn't like then i'd stop playing. I play pve only on atlas and if you enforced pvp on me i'd quit. And i'm sure i'm not the only one. As they say there are many more fish in the sea. I understand you as the devs have suffered an undeserved barrage of toxicity which has been unfair. But if my perceptions are right about certain areas of the game you are thinking of changing, then i'd say you should seriously consider again. I genuinely hope your game succeeds on any and every platform and wish you great future success. But please don't forget the people who first backed Atlas and still do, regardless of any negativity surrounding it.

Some people love building boats, some building towns with shops, some like taming, some like sailing and fighting. Deciding HOW people are going to play will have the devs playing this game by themselves. If the purpose is to have people be at sea, then you devs have done everything in your power to keep us ported: 1) You have cloudy skies that threaten rain with cyclones that do more overall ship damage than a full-on fleet fight. So, you PORT to avoid all that damage until you figure out whether 7 cyclones are going to literally follow you around a grid until you port. OR you PORT and twiddle your thumbs for the duration of a storm. 2) Living at sea requires us to carry enough ammo, supplies for repairs, and enough food and gigantic tables that the only size that can handle all that is the SLOWEST ship in the fleet (the Brig) or force everyone to build server-clogging galleons. 3) In order to have an awesome ship, you have to PORT, have a base to store the ingredients until it is complete and to build. To avoid spending the rest of your life with an axe and pick, you have to make tames to make that go faster so you can build your awesome ship to live on. Now you have tames that must be stored and protected and fed, and presto, you are landlocked and PORTED. Fast travel to feed is the only thing that saves the day, but you are naked, so whatever. 4) You made everything so heavy that "sailing" is more like watching dolphins passing you and laughing. You solved this with an awesome cargo box that you cannot even access unless you are PORTED. 5) Only you can repair your ship at sea, so if you are not keen to spend all your time after fights or storms or rocks making repairs to hundreds of single pieces, you must PORT. 6) If you lose your ship and everything you so lovingly built, you must have a place to rebuild. That requires a base that stores all duplicates of your goodies, blueprints, farming for cooking, clothes, weapons, etc.... again, you must PORT. 7) Scavenging wrecks overload boats, gold to pay crew overload a boat, supplies overload boats. So unless you are willing to dump all this (WTF), you spend all your time calculating how to keep the weight under 50% of the capacity to keep a decent knot. 8} Going around massive builds, avoiding squabbling neighbors, avoiding aggressive builds to block content, all double or triple your time on land and not in a good way. 9) Placing Treasure Maps in ridiculous locations, like inaccessible mountain tops, under rocks, squeezed ledges, in bases make it under a 50% shot that you can ever get access to it. And forget getting the good ones alone without a tame to help or drag some NPCs behind you getting stuck in everything from a bush to a turtle. It increases ported time. BONUS: The re-vamped island ownership did not work out as you planned, I think. Instead of a big company claiming big islands, they claimed all the little ones and they left the big ones free for folks that cannot even claim them. How about the large companies only being allowed to claim the large islands and leave the little ones to the little tribes? Thank you for addressing some of these issues, but taking away things that people like doing instead of limiting the things like over-active cyclones or weight and speed issue is a mistake. Make all things possible and all will come and play THEIR game. Totally get this is a work in progress, Beta and there are growing pains, just please remember: LAST and I think most important: NO one wants to spend ANY time playing and building and farming to have a wipe looming over them like a Black Plague. Most I have talked to say they will wait until these devs get their ship together, then come and play.

Play Ark then. Bye! Making it more like ark wont help the game and especially not the naval experience. There is no need for a second ark. The actual one is nice. Maybe a atlaslike modmap would help you. If there is an ocean full of islands to explore, ships to enter and settlements to raid, then i dont need a tame at all. They to big for the small doors and decks on warships anyway. I love having horses to ride on land. Cows, pigs, chicken and co do a great job to populate my pirate hideout. Monkey, parrots and others look great on the captains shoulders. So I am ok with having them ingame, but pls easier to tame and breed. I dont wont to waste to much time on shore. But for the rest, in a pirate mmo, I dont give a fuck. Only wont to kill them for exp and loot. And for game mechanics, it is a real fun killer, If I cant dig for that treasure chest without riding a bear. It is the right decision to put the focus on more pirate, navalbased content.

They ignore the old at their peril. They are the curmudgeons that have the disposable income, time, and dedication to make a progression game work. The younglings get distracted by the latest shiny and move like locusts from game to game, stripping content fields bare before dying in a glut of speedrun torpor.

honestly, i pretty much give up on this game's dev team for the foreseeable future.. so many great suggestions and very well thought out questions were offered to them... plenty of time to make a decent presentation... and what did they do with the opportunity to redeem themselves after they finally made a good move and announced a new lead designer to the last 0.01% of their actual player base that remained loyal to the cause ... a fuckin garbage graphic with a couple bullet points... calling it a fuckin "road map"... and they didn't answer anything of substance except notify the community that the game is STILL substantially going NOWHERE and will be going nowhere, for a long time... that stream was a complete and utter pile of steaming bullshit.. i literally puked in my mouth watching it. the final nail in the coffin in my mind. i tried so hard to keep the faith/hope/denial going... im fuckin done. Good bye atlas, ill probably pick you up in a year or if xbox launch is crossplay... but as i see it right now, fuck that. Hello star citizen. no matter how long it takes, at least they're using their communities support, efforts and time correctly instead of spitting in our faces like grapeshot is doing.

Having them at freeports is ok. But location of materials should alter the price, Iridium at 'I3 Freeport' should cost less than Iridium at 'A5 freeport'. If you've taken the time to transport a material to a location where it's hard to get you should get more for it.

I feel as though we have a lot of PvE posts so far. These are all geared towards PvP. Just for the record, I highly enjoy sailing as it is now. I don't think there is a lack of things to do while sailing. Between managing the sails and keeping course, I have to contend with SoTD, whales, pirates and I also have floatsom and shipwrecks to keep me hoping. Although the value/reward to most of these activities is where the rub is I feel. BIG CHANGES 1. DO NOT MAKE SAILING FASTER. To be more elaborate, do not take away the vastness of the map its possibly the most special thing Atlas has atm. Its already compromised by beds as they currently work. If anything, nerf beds to reduce the unlimited teleport and create more need for sailing. Sailing not only should be better, it should be more needed as well. 2. ADD MORE SHIPS. This is the big one. Specifically, more ships and diversity among them. Some ships should be faster for exploring or for crossing 3+ grids, but less sustainable for combat or material hauling. Some ships should be slower and geared for hauling or combat. Make some with oars that less wind reliant. Make more subs, or at least subs more available. Almost, like, all the thought and time that was put into those god damn tames, do the same for boats. Use history and get creative. At the end of the day, I shouldn't have more options for a wall than I do for a ship. 3. MAKE SHIPS SAFER ASSETS. Currently the greatest assets in the game, and hence what everything revolves around is what you have on land (bases, ports, ect). Ships are fickle things that can only be semi safe behind ports that have been heavily vested with defenses and NPC mounted turrets. A very big complaint, is not necessarily going sailing around, but rather having to sail BACK to base before you are done. I would like to see, especially for the solo and duo player, the boat be the preferred base. Id like to see the boats immune to taking or giving dmg when anchored. This would allow you to spend days or weeks sailing around, only needing to find an approachable beach to end your gaming session for the day. Ofc this means no stealing anchored boats as well. I'm also open to adding an upkeep cost to this, and/or reducing the company limit to prevent abuse. 4. INCREASE VISIBILITY. Another big complaint is SoTD, other boats, and structures built around islands not populating or being visible until the last moment. While on a flat sea, I should have a much greater range of sight to avoid colliding with things much sooner than I currently have the option to do. 5. MR. SULU. I personally disagree with this one, but it has enough merit and support on its own, and I am not so much a blind idealist as to not see the benefit to a navigating NPC helmsman. I don't like the idea of any NPCs taking the jobs that should be real people playing an MMORPG, but they are there and there to stay. I would prefer it to be a skill buried at the bottom of the captain tree. It would be nice to set a destination and an aggro level (behavior, like the NPCs and tames) and allow you to do other things while en route. 6 MAGIC. It is...(Damn you for making me say it out loud Boomer)..(/clenched teeth)..a fantasy game..not just a pirate game as so many of you have successfully argued. There should be a magic (tarot or otherwise) skill tree. This allows more dynamics with wind, fog, visibility range, ship capacity, ship durability, ship stealth (npc range), ship dmg, short range radar and on and on and on with what could be done with simple buffs/debuffs/AOEs and just justifying them with a high level magic user. I would balance this by limiting how many skill trees a person is able to master relative to how it is currently setup (jack of all, master of all). QOL Changes 7. Don't make me use the damn sextant, its annoying, not challenging or engaging. Just give me the buff on the captain tree. 8. Let me set an NPC to collect floatsom with a grappling hook when I get in range. At least if you don't buff what they give as rewards, because they blow as is. 9. Ship flag for decoration/affiliation, steal it straight from Sea of Thieves. In particular the PvP flag, which allows your location to show as a red dot on the map for all to see. Come and get some!

Sync zones so the winds is the same across all the zones, with the exception of storms. Sucks to plan a trip across 8 zones, wait for good wind to leave harbor, only to zone to the next grid and the wind is a different direction and low. Give players the ability (on a long cooldown) to change the direction of the wind. a few different ways to do it. 1) a skill to unlock, comes with some type of big penalty. 2) an idol you have to craft or make. takes alot of resources and a one time use. gives a 1 hour debuff that you can not use another one. 3) small alter on the ship and you have to make an offering to the gods. (resources, gold, animals, food, ect). if they accept you can do it, if they dont you get there wrath. could spawn SoTDs all around, spawn storm that's 2x or 3x as strong as normal, lightning bolt kills everyone on your ship, spawns monstrous whale that chase only you . teleports you and ship to a random grid in the game. lots of stuff you happen. you get the idea. How much of a game changer would it be to be able to change wind in pvp...
