    Have you thought of putting a map with pvp and pve areas together like a lot of the private servers have made so that small tribes can enjoy the ship pvp without having their base trashed by the large tribes and have a safe area to relax when they want to just build.

    I've pointed to No Man's Sky in the past as the ultimate example in the gaming world of "The opera ain't over til the fat lady sings", but until this past weekend, I'd never actually played it. My boss (who incidently is one of those mythical grown adults who plays both console and PC games and makes distinguishing between the two as somehow separate and distinct groups somewhat silly) has been campaigning for me to try it for at least half a year, and has kept me abreast of Beyond, it's free update released last Wednesday. It is currently on sale at half price for another couple of days and so after giving it til friday for my boss to verify the new update was as promised, I finally took the plunge over the weekend. I didn't write this to hype a different game on Atlas's boards, but in the sincere belief that all concerned can take something instructive away from No Man's Sky. If you've been living under a rock for the past 3 years, then NMS's launch might be the only one to rate as a bigger charlie foxtrot than Atlas's. When you have legal and regulatory agencies of multiple governments publicly declaring their intent to investigate your game based on allegations of outright fraud, it's safe to say something has gone horribly wrong. Yet Hello games, in the face of massive bad publicity and widespread public rebuke, declared their intention to simply put their head down and go about making NMS into the best possible game they could. If ever a developer had every reason to just walk away, this was it, but they didn't. Fast forward 3 years. The game I played over the weekend was engaging, it felt fully developed and fun. If I had been unaware of NMS's disastrous launch I would never have known from playing it. I believe NMS is an instructive example for 2 parties in 2 ways. The first will not be what you expect. For Jeremy and Snail Games, and all other decision makers in the gaming industry, look closely at No Man's Sky and think hard about whether you really want to release your game long before it's anywhere close to a finished product and charge people money for it, whether you call it Early Access or not. Because the damage to your game's reputation if you do so and it goes poorly cannot be undone. No Man's Sky took 3 years to dig itself out of that hole, and what it has arguably lost in the process is the chance to ever be a big hit. It's clawed itself into being a solid game because Hello games put blood sweat and tears into making it that way without ever asking for a penny more from the people who bought their product. But if they had waited until now to release, who knows what it might have been. Certainly more than the 10k average activity steam charts even over the past weekend with a major new content release AND the game at half price. "Long is the road and hard is the way that out of hell leads up to heaven." Indeed. It would seem wiser never to put yourself in hell in the first place, wouldn't it? Secondly, for everyone who bought Atlas and now despairs of the game's prospects as hopeless and beyond repair: go and have a look. I'm not saying what will be, merely what is possible. If GrapeCard™ were merely shysters looking to make a fast buck, I sincerely believe that they would never have chosen an MMO to do it with, and more importantly, they would probably already have walked away. Atlas is making almost no revenue at this point. Do you see many new players trying the game out? The fact they continue to press forward should be evidence of a significant commitment to produce a viable game. It is entirely possible that the game could still fail, that it's myraid issues may never be satisfactorily resolved enough to attract a meaningful and viable playerbase, but that is only a possibility, not a certainty. I want to also say a word about the continuing criticism of Atlas's concept as not just pirate themed, but pirate/fantasy. If you don't like the concept, by all means say so, that's useful and legitimate feedback. But at the same time, try to give them credit for trying something new and different. The gaming industry has too little innovation and experimentation at the top these days, as the bigger companies just regurgitate mostly bad sequels to already proven franchises. If Jeremy et al had truly wanted to just create Ark II, they could have done it without taking the chances they have with Atlas. Beyond this, for those that just want to stand on the sidelines, throw stones and jeer instead of offering useful and constructive feedback, I offer the words of Teddy Roosevelt: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

    ... we have a new lead designer. Was waiting for this decision since their first livestream and horrible balancing changes. Now lets hope that the new guy understands, there are a lot more casual players out there than hardcore players. And that there are better ways to motivate veterans to play the game than making them more or less unbeatable for newbies due to incredible high stats and gear. I would for sure return to the game if it would be possible to keep up with progress of hardcore gamers with a more senseful ammount of playing time. Just one example: the current war-time equals a full workday. Ppl who had already a rl working day, who have friends and family barely can affort another working day just for pixels. There must be better and mor fun ways for holding and capturing islands. Nevertheless, good luck to the new guy.

    No matter what you guys are planning for the future of the game, something that can be done and should have been done a long time ago, the basic structures need to be worked on. Everyone loves to build, even in a pirate game but the structures are very lacking in being finished. We don't have glass windows or any window coverings at all so that would be a start. The way the edges look when you put the walls together are just terrible? Who in the world thought it was a good idea to make the edge of a wall look like a jigsaw puzzle? A game company should not be solely relying on modders to make their game great! The game should start out great and then modders add to it. When the basic game falls short it can only cause people to give negative reviews on the simplest game mechanics. The next thing that is very doable and would make a huge amount of people happy is the paint and dye. Why even have so many beautiful paint colors if they don't work? Get back to the basics first. Fix things that we have been begging for since day one and at least those things won't be letting us down every time we get into game. So my question to the new lead designer is: 1. Will structures be worked on and improved? 2. Will the paint and dye system be fixed so that the colors actually show up correctly on the ships and buildings?

    First off I would like to say, nice to meet you. It is always good to have a fresh set of eyes on something. I am sure you have already noticed that atlas has gone in the wrong direction and I am sure you know what the problems with them are. Well as you said as well. Let’s jump into this. first and foremost, the console release is coming up and we all know this is a heated issue. Well in all reality the release isn’t the heated part. The crossplay is. We need to have an answer on this since there will need to be a wipe if Xbox crossplays with steam. secondly, I liked reading your introduction and just by your words I could hear the winds of change starting to blow. I want to be the first to tell you that the “ultimate pirate” experience you have a dream and goal for does not include the land claim system. It is finally time to once and for all be rid of that bad system. That was definitely not a “pirate” idea. third is the wiping. Not you guys wiping because there is nothing wrong with that. But players be able to wipe months of work within a couple of hours has become a very big reason why people leave. We saw it in ark as well. A good way to make the “ultimate pirate” experience would be to get rid of companies entirely and make factions. I still think 2 factions would be the best route to go but I would be fine with a couple more. if we could get rid of all the upkeep that is time consuming(island claims), loss of months of work(time consuming), and companies(bringing solos and big groups together with factions) you might have the best game ever made. unfortunately, with out these changes it is still possible to have the worst game ever made. The ball is in your court now man. I will trust you and I will have hope for you. will this game stay at 2k players or will it go back up to 58k. You came just in time because the difference between 58k and 2k is a VERY HUGE difference. there has been only bad decisions being made. Let’s change all of that with some new good decisions, because failure is all that has been present since December.

    What do you all perceive to be the ideal atlas experience? The game seems to lack a clear direction. What do you all intend to do if anything to shift game play to be more boat focused? They only way to accomplish anything in PvP currently is destroying people's islands. Housing any kind of boat safely, even given peace timers, requires mega bases that the majority of player groups can not dedicate the time to build and maintain. What are solutions to this problem you all have considered, and what is the ideal scenario you all would like to see? How specifically do you all intend to rework the blueprint system to not put players without a mythic galleon at a MASSIVE disadvantage? At current, a common boat can't even hold enough cannonballs to sink a mythic boat, and it takes a group of 5 or more to have a chance at sinking a mythic boat. At the moment you can keep a galleon with half its planks missing afloat with only 4 people bucketing, What steps are you all taking to address this (maybe remove bucketing in to camp fires...)? Server performance has managed to seemingly decline even given the low player population, assumably due to mega bases. Is optimizing the game's current system to run better the best way forward, or are you all looking in to more wholistic changes? There is currently no reason for players to repeat any of the world bosses other than to help others. Is this the intended game play experience? How do you all think on boarding of new players should be handled? At the moment new players either join an existing company to teach them how to play, or they sit around on a beach and never experience most of the game's content. should it be the job of existing companies to onboard new players, or should their be more resources given to new players to teach them how to play?

    really? Did you ever play pvp in this game? Its all about pike, mace, Blackjacks. Carbine and pistol is completely useless against high hp players and during lag.

    Right now there is a lot of concern over Atlas and what it is and where it's going. Is there an updated vision for Atlas? Is it possible to get a road map from the developers? e.g https://fix.pubg.com/ What is good in PvP life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women. Done that and now we have nothing to do. We raise their fleets and destroy their base and then they quit? How is that going to make a sustainable player base? What are your plans for incentives and accountability? Many, many, many people have asked for combining PvE and PvP and given great suggestions, myself included. Are you even considering doing this? Why separate the player base? Why is decay of structures forced into the game? Can you not allow the player base to clean up things? This has created all kinds of nuisances including but not limited to people not reliably being able to take a break and helpful structures such as ramps to treasure maps auto destroying. If someone quits, let us be pirates and pillage their items. We should be able to destroy structures and get resources. We should be able to take over ships that are abandoned and either sink em or salvage them. Auto decay is awful.

    I love the game and play with a great group who have become friends....what makes MMO's work. When do you think you will put some effort into optimisation, I have a top end PC, top end Graphics card, the game struggles to run and crashes often, not just me the whole company. I do understand the need to flesh out the base game and expand the various mechanics, but it is a horrid game as far as performance and memory consumption. Your missing out on a lot of potential customers too I suspect.

    Some more questions about NPC crew on ships: Will we be able to place NPCs in the crows nest so players can go back to steer ships from the wheel? Will NPC be able to notify you about danger like SotD so you can go below the deck and actually do stuff while sailing? Will NPC captains be able to have different behavior like attack enemies, flee, avoid danger in sight? Some more questions in general: Will there be Day and Night as two different experiences? For example SotD spawn only during night time, undead roam some areas during night times, some predators hunt during the night and move around more but rest during the day and more features so night and day feel different. Will we see regular Ghost ships, NPC pirates, NPC traders and other stuff to liven up the world? (could be server based, the fewer players are on the server grid the more NPC ships can spawn to keep performance on a good level) And like others asked already, will we see a true mmo server -> structured map with newbie area, PVE area, regulated PVP area, no build adventure area, full PVP area? Increasing the difficulty and reward the farther you get away from the newbie area.

    What about something in the vein of daily quests from other MMOs. Go to the freeport, pick up a couple of quests (one to bring back a tamed tiger, one to bring certain resources, one to kill so many of this or that), bring them back for rewards of actual gear (NOT BPs) and some gold, etc. Also, are you considering changes to skill trees? Specifically, promoting trade by requiring the skills in order to *craft* the items, but not to use them. Would be fantastic to have trade/specialization in those skills be useful. As it is, to be able to use the item, I am already able to craft it. Not great. What is being done to remove the "land warfare" meta from the game and move it towards ship/open-sea conflicts? PVPVE all on one map?

    Are you planning to work on your deficit documentation for help modder? (because you make a whole map blackhood to help us, but there is no explanation at all for anything) Do you plan like the Ark to integrate one or two animals for each update? Will you add one new ship or sail (no cosmetic) this year? Have you worked for an improvement of the colony system? Can we have a whole plan for everything you will develop during this year? (like priority fix bug, adding an island, adding quests, console... etc.) For the next big update, did you plan a wipe? What do you think about the meta pvp on the ground and the ship we are actually playing? Did you plan something for bringing more player for counter your very bad evaluation on steam? Does ship will go faster or official will have a smaller map for the early access because of the low population? Is there any possibility that the EU and NA server merge?
