I understand that doldrums are a thing in real life, but in a video game, all this game mechanic does is say, "Don't play right now". Countless times my friend and I have been out treasure hunting and the wind dies down to almost nothing. At that point, there's no point in wasting time sailing. If that's what you wanted to be doing, you log off. The wind should always be at full strength. The changing direction is enough of a mechanic to add some planning requirements to sailing.

Totally agree! It drips way to low to a point of “no point in playing” the minimum needs bumping up a bit.

There are far greater sins, like using a non Duke's brand mayonnaise on your tomato sandwich, or dumping sugar into unsweetened tea and trying to tell a southerner it's sweet tea (blasphemy!).

i agree about 90% i think wind speed can adjust , it just goes down to much to causing a not fun game experience

"AoD are now immune to anything except gun (non-puckle), melee damage and tame damage." My technique for fighting the Army of the Dead for treasure hunting was building walls and grenades after they spawn. Guns don't do enough damage to be able to effectively take out a squad of Warriors of the Damned (although they will handle the other mobs, like archers--if you don't miss!) and trying to solo three or more level 25+ Warriors with melee weapons leads to pain and misery. I have been playing Atlas without taming, instead depending on the gear and my skills and tenacity. The harvest bonus and good (journeyman+) tools mostly makes up for the advantage that tames give for harvesting. Only bears out perform me on fiber-over-time; the rest of the animals move so slowly I can about match for bulk collection them if my weight and stamina are high and boosted with gear. And considering that I no longer have to hunt high level animals, spend time taming, worry about the animals being killed, and save the weight of carrying animals around on my ships, I feel that this is about an even trade in game play. Plus I have about 24 skill points I don't have to lock up in the Taming tree, thus I can be more versatile in the other skills needed for the game. But you just can't solo a journeyman map without animals following the immunity to grenades and explosive kegs that was instituted in the changes this week. What exactly was the purpose of this change to AOD? What were the devs trying to fix that was exploitative? And now that there is a Single Player mode in the works, is locking out this style of play really a smart direction to go? I feel it is not.

Well ark you tamed dinosaurs for the most part. With atlas you tame animals. I am pretty sure they are mad about a sea horse because it is that is kind of a girly tame. But yes, I do believe they need to bring in more fantasy type tames. a cerberus for example would be pretty bad ass. maybe even centaurs Yeah I am not too happy about the sea horse either lol All I know is the better not try to hang their hat on the claim system

If the wind direction is acting weird or is always blowing against you try this... cheat setignorewind 1 (ignores wind direction and you still go forward) cheat setignorewind 0 (sets wind direction affecting ship again) Note I haven't tried these myself but may well do now I know about it.

If they'd had it from the outset I would think many pissed-off players would have been content with single-player while Grapeshot tinkered/messed with the game. With no fallback position when bad game systems were adjusted and arguably worse ones brought in, the choice was play and get REALLY pissed off with the game or just quit entirely. Well, the low player-base speaks for itself one way or the other. I hope people do return, see that single-player is pretty good and return to public servers, be it Official or Unofficial.

Except the fact that its annoying to get them to some locations a decent one Level 115 or above does more than well. We had One Equipped with Common Armor And sword And he does Hit for 167 And has over 500HP. And you can Level them on melee And Give them better than Common Gear

Still think single player is the most important thing to come to atlas since they added water

You can never get explores on your current home server. If that server is a freeport then you wont get them. Change homes to another and then you can sail and get them.

As I recall, just before release they showed pics of towns full of people (some NPCs but probably supposed to show a lot of players, too?) in the early days where players could gather, trade, plan wars and forge alliances and thus create a player-driven economy... then they made ship decay so incredibly fast in the Freeport hubs that no-one dared to linger there more than a few hours. How can you possibly trade enough stuff to form a thriving player-driven economy with the Player Shop system when no-one dares to hang around to browse and trade?? Atlas needs a Merchantile System - not a global Auction House - where players could take on NPC/Player contracts to transport cargo to other islands to earn gold or to exchange for other Resources. Yes, it's similar to Eve Online, but that's what they were supposedly aiming for even though they made no real attempt to implement this whatsoever. This would at least make piracy a viable activity and at the same time it would give small companies a chance to earn enough gold to claim and keep a bit of land for themselves. Give players a REASON to congregate, socialize and trade and they will do so. Otherwise they just squat on their bit of turf eyeing up everyone else suspiciously and jealously guarding their solitude until they eventually realise that's all they will ever be doing in Atlas.

The question is too simplistic to answer correctly. Would I like a solution to lower the long-distance travel times: yes. -|> introduce a long-distance travel mode (with a limitation on course adjustment speed + with a slow procedure to rig the sails differently, that does not allow a quick change to a more versatile combat mode) Would I like to keep the current speed for encounters and manoeuvers: yes. So in your poll I answered 'no' as a PVE player. And I would have answered 'no' as a PvP player as well if you would have set up the poll to allow for player reality (where players are not exclusively PvP or PvE).

Ahh! I thought they had already been added. Explains why we can’t find them. I’ve already been practicing my nay saying and crazy mumbling too.

Dude cats are awesome. Very glad they are going to be added. totally going to be the old cat lady in atlas

Thank you very much for adding single player , devs ! The patch flows in 6 hours ago here in europe and our community is just testing it. It's really great to have this amazing huge map finally, well done!Discovery system works, not like on our private servers after wipe. The gameplay is smooth and the performance is stabil and so far no game crashes. Not all settings work in the game: Day tme speed /cycle and bears can't farm fibers. Please keep up your precious work for this first class survival game and please listen to the multiplayers community critics. The map and landscape desingn is brilliant and beautiful, but maybe more realism instead of fantasy and more sea/ships/pirates simulation. Maybe royal naval forces of the 17th.century on land and sea-huge spanish galleons with tons of gold to raid.

First of all it is not a raid timer - they added a peace timer... Second in hindsight that was the best of the worst decisions to make by them for a completely different problem. And it does not matter how long the peace timer is, it stays a bad solution. What they should have done - which we are all crying about - is the way land PVP works and hip PVP works. With the main concern that land PVP is broken in favor of the attacker. Before it was not possible to defend a base. Now at least you cannot defend a base for how long as there is no peace time. See the problem? Still not possible to defend a base. Still too easy with practically zero cost (tame a bear, make some cannon balls) for the attacker. Yeah I get it... Because it the marketing idea to sell the game with the use of streamers you want to make attack look cool - ' see how easy we streamers that are not so good at PVP lay waste to this giant base, they have no chance against us!' so buy and have the same fun. and when you bought the game you find out the other side. And because you have big problems getting to protect and expand you stuff, becoming a waste of time doing so, because you easily loose it anyway, people stop playing. Well at least they generated money for the developers, right! Right? So what do we got? - Game that is developed around PVP to the point that PVE servers do not work for the players iA option to get rid of foundation spam, etc... - Land PVP that is opposite of what it should be: cost for attacker > cost for defender - your stuff is save the moment it is not worth it to attack you... currently all your stuff is worthless, as it cost nothing to PVP it. - ShipPVP almost not existent in a ship PVP based game = high sea piracy game (yeah yeah 'pirate fantasy game' what ever you want to make believe...) because the low hanging fruit for PVP in this game is Land PVP. Why waste a ship in PVP that cost more time/resources to make than getting a bear with cannon, especially if your ship gets sunk while anchored and you not there anyway...? - Even if there were Ship PVP mainly going on it is without skill. I wonder why real world ships did not make the front/one-side/back-loading gun boats and so heavily relied on broadsides...?!?! Yeah, yeah, pirate fantasy game... and our customer generating streamers don't want to need player skills when they can get easy meta which only needs resources... totally understandable, but not so interesting for people that want to have a game with sailing gun boats... like most other people the got the game. 'But if we cannot build our ships how we like we loose the creativity...!' - said the player that builds his PVP ships like everyone else and can continue to lag in tactical creativity... - Up until a few weeks ago, we also had the problem, that everyone was feeling entitled to owning his own claim/island. Although this is not really needed and for most small groups not even practical valid to do... Now we have the situation that the server population is so low, that literally everyone can get an island, only to find out that they really are too small to afford it - who would have known...? 'Lower the cost or get rid of claiming, if I cannot have, no one should!' - As the population goes lower and lower because of this we are coming to the point of another wipe. For one to combine atleast the PVP and the PVE servers (doubling their pop). Also for the possibility that people will come back for the option of a fresh start. If the server pop falls beneath a critical value everyone will leave and the game dies. That value is when the last remaining players cannot find someone to raid anymore as everyone else already left and their stuff is already raided. If the defender does not rebuild to get raided again, there is no raiding, so no game play... - And don't forget you get nothing but OP tames in every mega patch, that no one wants or asked for... I for one would wipe the servers, make only one PVP server (which a physically all in one place = Germany anyway) and get rid of the PVE servers that do not work anyway, because of this being a game designed around PVP mechanics (as stupid bad as they are...) Fix land PVP so that NPC defenses work and therefore make cost of attacking higher for the attacker, even if the streamers and the Zerg would complain about their lack of skill... Fix ship PVP in that it becomes realistic to attract the pirate game players... again don't mind the screams of the skill-less... Make it so that PVE players are almost always protected in a claim, while the claim itself is PVP all the time and if it is unclaimed it gets lawless and even PVE can be raided. That would also get rid of the giant - but useless defense structures being build all over the place taking more and more space that the owner actually does not need or want to build up, but has to... because he has to protect his ships, his to protect his tames... has to cover every spot on the map which could be used against him... and has to kick out everyone from the claim that is in the way...

I thought the mode was going to be only for the single grid ISO map, so amazed when they said it works on all maps. Since you do not have 15x15 servers running how did they solve the problem of treasure map bottles being empty when the target server is not up? This is an issue Atlas Server Controller had in implementing server swapping. You can traverse the map and only load those servers around you to make running servers on your gaming PC feasible if you have 64GB of mem. With 32GB you had to manually load your source and destination grid and home grid because loading all neighbors and home was too much. That could not be automated using steam location services outside the game as it required knowing the players direction, but this update could be tracking that. Problem is with only 3/225 maps up - treasure map hunting was boring local common quality. I think the mode will be successful - it allows people to experience the game without any server issues. Obviously being able to chose your own mods and settings and not have to live with others poor choices is great. The reality is MMOs are so full of people doing their own thing without regards to other people - they have no desire to either compete or cooperate - that they might as well be playing solo. Most people have no desire to play with people only willing to play with themselves.

I can't speak for Atlas's ingame cats, but Richard Parker and Miss Cadence having been making themselves a nuisance this morning with their unreasonable demands that I get up and feed them their canned food. Cats completely fail to respect the concept of the weekend, or sleeping in. They are all up in my grill, as the kids say these days.

With numbers already dropping I can see this killing off PvE altogether. It looks like people are wanting this single player mode and many will go from PvE to single player. Don't think it will have any difference for PvP that is the main part of the game but doesn't look good for PvE. I enjoy PvE only because of the interaction with others without fighting and helping, trading etc but when numbers drop further I probably won't see PvE enjoyable at all and may even try single player myself eventually if we can use mods. Never played Ark so don't know if PvE exists alongside single player? Be interesting to see how that panned out with the numbers or whether it is surviving. It may be that I just move onto another game altogether, all the people I used to play with left a long time ago. Maybe a year down the line it may be more different but I won't hold my breath. I will see how single player turns out and how other people find this mode in the game, I'm not sure it is going to be fun but will see. I think it will need a hell of alot more things added in single player to be enjoyable.

Exactly this is what several ppl have been telling him now since he started this topic. But he keeps claiming how it is for all us. No matter how many times you explain him how this is only good for the big agressive companies, that do not want to put in the effort (aka being lazy). I think he might only shut up if u tell your company members to come here and vote now and he actually see's the numbers. And @Willard don't even start with "do u even PvP". I do - and unlike your company mine still excists!

Ah yes... Typical move by Jat, Jeremy, Wildcard(Grapeshot) etc. It is a darn shame they nerfed something as benign as that, considering powerstone zones are hunted frequently for people doing the trench, taming on the island, doing powerstones or leveling up their boats. You might get really lucky and not get jumped and sunk. It's a pretty even risk/reward if you consider the time investment, nearly beaching themselves, and having to kite critters all day in the hopes a boat sailing by doesnt sink you They keep taking the sand out of the sandbox for no reason other than just because. Let's ignore the elephant in the room, people exploiting player levels to go beyond cap, duping, mega companies abusing the hell out of freeports to store assets, animals, etc. Rampant aimbotters, ships out there exploiting sails by have 6+ on a brig, etc. Instead gentleman, let's not focus on the real issues, but the superficial ones, like players utilizing perfectly respectable mechanics to level up a ship using creative methods that dont exploit or abuse any unintended mechanic, but instead using Anti-personnel and anti-animal weaponry exactly how they were intended to be used, to shoot those things. Lets focus on instead on banning people for being "toxic" with no real definition of what that is or means but handle it on an inconsistent case by case basis(this takes a lot of time, and is very inconsistent), instead of for duping, cheating, exploiting, and developing any way to detect, track or monitor actual illicit behavior, because they don't know how to do that either. Never mind how ship grappling brings giant ships traveling at high speeds to a sudden stop for *reasons*, never mind how in large fleet fights, you cannot effectively salvage any ship because for some reason a shipwreck spawns 2-3 sharks for no reason, and when you are having a concentrated fight and multiple ships sinking it's pretty easy to have 12+ sharks magically appear, Oh wait why doesnt you warship having a diving platform?(Uh because it's a warship, also I cannon bear'd that entire fleet in a walled off harbor, and didnt get any loot because there are a bazillion sharks in there now). How about Torpedos? Eh! EH? They're great eh! Great new content bound to boost our playerbase! You know HUGE COST and they uh.... travel slow and dont do any worth while damage for their cost/effectiveness. No one uses them. And there there is your amazing melee combat, First it was brass knuckles and your feat and you could knock hordes of people out in 1-2 power strikes, now it's the spear and a fully spec'd softspot and not only can you knock everyone and their mom off of anything theyre mounting, you can completely knocking them out in a solid 2 hits. Nerfing the ship guns/cannons vs. critters and nerfing respawning on newly placed beds are what the game needs... GG 2-3k and dropping peak players. "At least the game has 4k graphics" - Jeremy Stieglitz. #priorities, @Jatheish

Yes.. it’s intended. Its also absolutely ridiculous! Honestly cannot even guess the devs thinking behind this absurd change. Removes all creativity and strategy from maps and just turned it into “bring a bear”
