Did some calculations based on these assumptions: Fresh made galleon with a carry weight of 30,000 Common speed sails, weight sails, and cargo crates Weight sails give 60% of the speed that weight sails give weight sails and cargo crate penalties are not additive. Given those assumptions and taking the average speed percentage of weights between 9k and 27k carried weight, the best configuration is 6 speed sails with 1-3 cargo crates. the percentage calculations I am using is = (1-(#WeightSails)*6.7%)* (1-(#CargoCrates)*6.7%)*(1-CurrentWgt/MaxWgt)^0.5 Brigantine Schooner (assuming 1 large speed sail)

I don't know if something like this could be done, but maybe they should change how render distance for ships works, so that bigger ships can be seen for a much longer distance than the smaller ones. Making the sloop something that you are unable to see unless you are very close to them could make them useful in some situations, at least for pvp.

The mermaids only spawn in the ocean in the golden age ruins. Both the friendly and aggressive mermaids sing you off your ship. If you’re watching for it, you can see the mermaids area of effect for their singing. It’s a yellow circle with yellow musical notes rising from it in the waters surface. When you enter the circle, you get a debuff with no timer and will start bouncing towards the side of your ship. You can control yourself somewhat to stay on the ship with your directional keys. Even after leaving the AoE, you’ll still have the debuff for a short period. I’ll have to try the laying prone tip the next time I encounter one. If you have crew manning the sails and all players are off the ship, the crew will furl your sails. If you’re on your own, I hope you’ve got a bed on board and are not sailing directly at a very close island (I’ve not seen them spawn close to land though.) The aggressive mermaids are dark colours and will grab you and start dragging you underwater. This starts a mini game for you to punch the mermaid to break free. Don’t worry though. Chances are a shark will eat you both first. The friendly mermaids have brighter colours, and once you get close enough you’ll get the achievement and a small amount of a resource in your inventory. I don’t really see a huge gain from having the achievement. 35% extra stamina gain is nice, but not game changing. So don’t worry too much about not having the achievement. You’ll get it eventually.

Never even tried it, its a waste of time. People are right you should not need any bait and it should catch fish automatic, silly item. If i want quick fish though i just use the sub, kills fish and shark no problem although i know not everyone has it.

@Jatheish First of all, the act of actually sailing is great. Sea of Thieves had amazing sailing mechanics, and I feel you nailed most of them. The problem they had was not enough sea, islands everywhere. The vastness of Atlas is a defining characteristic, compromised only by the god awful fast travel system currently in place (beds). As far as fixing that to make it better, please consider the following; 1. Waves don't seem to have much/any affect on the boat when its in motion. This could be made more dramatic, at least for smaller boats, or frankly left alone for the time being. This is super minor. 2. Increase sight range. What is your biggest sailing issue, its SoTD popping up, its structures popping up, its circling around enemies that you know are somewhere right there and not being able to see them until almost cannon range. This is a terrible problem to have. The sea is flat, we should be able to see a ship coming a long way off. We should be able to see some sign that there is a gigantic wall in front of us before we are into it. This is a big deal for anyone who has lost a vessel to something that just magically popped up out of nowhere. 3. Increase backup speed. Parking sucks, and can take several minutes. The best fix is to simply increase reverse speed 3-5x its current value. QoL. 4. The ability to plot a course. I try my best to not advocate adding assets that don't already exist. Perhaps though we could steal a map table from Sea of Thieves, or just use your in game Atlas (num8). Put NPCs on the sails and helm, and put a point on the map that the NPCs will sail to. I would even concede to SoTD being non aggro while auto sail is engaged. I feel this would be far more preferable than increasing the use of fast travel. Now, the better solutions to making sailing better will be found outside of actually sailing. 1. This is your biggest one. Ships, we have 4, and only 3 are even viable options. We have umpteen+ different choices of tames, that are a requirement or you end up like @vaylain thinking it takes more than an hour to make a schooner. However only (3) viable ship choices. On top of that, there is no benefit to the smaller ships outside of taking less resources to make. We need more ships, we need more ship balance. In the theme of that, there would be nothing wrong with making different classes of ships withing their size modules. 2. Durability of ships. Another major problem you have with unhappy sailors is how utterly flimsy the boats are. While anchored, the boat itself should be 100% disabled from taking damage or doing damage (perhaps with the exception of war declarations). Some people have lobbied for ships in a bottle, an over the top solution. What do I really really want when I login? My boat, right where I left it. Why am I dissuaded from sailing to everywhere during the week? Because I have to find a safe harbor to park in or my boat WILL be destroyed, because it CAN be destroyed. This greatly discourages people form making long trips, or taking the boat out for much of anything at all unless they have to. This takes nothing away from the game, and adds soo much to it. On top of all that, when I do enter a melee on the seas, why should a common boat be planked in 1 volley? The damage differential is lopsided atm. An important thing to consider when using numbers and % scaling in games, keep them small. Or else you end up with exploits and horrid balance issues (guillotine anyone?). 3. The economy, err, the lack therefor of. So long as there exist no form of usable auction house, there will not be an economy. People say just going to islands gets boring. Indeed, we need a reason for traffic aside from our immediate needs. I should be able to make good boats, and put them up for sail. Along with everything else I can craft. The free ports should be more than Slaves-R-Us. They should be a booming economic hub. Damn.. I went longer than I intended. -CS

Yes but.... but... ummm..... oh I know! Small ships use less wind? I mean you can really save a bundle on your wind bills right?

The point of this post is good. I see some replys asking why he wants to make the game even easier? It's not that he wants it easier, he's trying to create maximum pvp engagement to make it MORE FUN. Which will bring more players to the game making it even MORE FUN. Which creates a positive feedback loop, which in itself creates the success of the game. Progress is EVERYTHING in this game, so losing that progress to start over just because someone found your stuff while your offline. Creates no sort of creative difficulty of any kind, it causes you to repeat things you already have, like building another galleon, that's not difficult it's just time consuming. Also I've done a test, of the games defences, there all terrible. So if your logging off at all during the 9hrs your risking all your progress that's on that land. There just needs to be something, to save the progress of small company players. The whole settler idea is good, but big companies dont struggle with upkeep, so there's not much incentive to protect their stuff as the island owning company. I think ships not being able to be sunk, and even a small personal Freeport bank npc would go a long way in helping the little companies make this game fun again. There WERE a lot of players in this game wanting to do small companies, alot of them have quit, and the only reason I've been able to keep my progress since the wipe is Freeport tames, and a brig at 200% resist takes 16hours to sink in Freeport. Since my progress is relatively safe, it makes game progression fun. If I was progressing on a claim, it wouldn't be, because I know everytime I log off in battle time, I should expect it all to be wiped when i come back. So whenever something is working towards this saving progress of players that want to play with themselves and some friends, and not have the entire game done for them by a big company. Why I think they should model it around small company, no land claiming, and just living on lawless and freeports, then up to bigger companies keep land, and can have settlers. Do a small Freeport bank, and make ships unsinkable ,but raidable while offline, and smaller companies have a way to play the game. Atm if your not in a Freeport, as a small company, your stuff simply isn't remotely safe, doesnt matter if your defence cost 10000 gold a day, it wont stop players

I'm posting this suggestion that a critical change that could help the progress of smaller companies, and help make the game more fun in general. Currently no one knows if the Freeport settings on live are on purpose or an accident. Tames, last 8 days in the Freeport, only requiring that you render them in, and feed them to keep them pretty safe, other than players trying to gather wild Freeport animals to kill them. Mine have been safe at least. You can keep anything on their inventory safely essentially saving your progress in the game. Ships in the Freeport, at first seems unmanageable to keep them floating until you increase resistance levels, my brig at 220% resist has been fine, and would take about 16hours to sink. So currently if you dont want a claim you can manage keeping everything besides a farm in the freeports. Saving my progress this way, knowing other players cant ruin it has been FUN. Knowing that if I steal something cool, or do something difficult in the game, I can save it. I cant be online for 9 hours everyday to keep a claim. This is the only way I can play atm as a small company, there are still huge advantages to having a claim like infinite non decaying ship storage, so that you can have more than one or two ships. So what I'm proposing is that you make the Freeport more of a sanctuary for small companies. Introduce a Freeport bank npc that can hold like 25 slots, no weight limit, for small companies. Do not link the bank npc together, we dont want people teleporting resources across the atlas. All this would be is a small cache of items that is personal to each pathfinder, and has nothing to do with the company. Not enough to save everything but enough to pick what's important to you to save. You have already introduced a nice trading, and shop system, which has little merit to small companies that have no where safe to keep their items, except for Freeport tames right now. I do like the settler system, however big companies aren't struggling with upkeep, so while they probably wont mind having settlers, the settlers arent of much value, so there's not much incentive to protect their stuff on your island, also bigger companies will just push that you merge with them rather than be your own company, while they cant MAKE you do this, they CAN however, evict you and wipe all your progress. However this small personal Freeport bank could fix alot for solo/small company players allowing them to do buisiness with big companies without fear that the big company will decide to wipe all their progress. I LOVE YOUR GAME, and I hope you can consider a Freeport bank a possibility for its future. That way each fight/ battle doesnt have to end in someone wanting to quit, or realizing big companies are the only way to play it at all.

14k damage torpedo's is more then insane, you removed the explosive barrels from cannons because it was to OP. But then add these that do 3x more damage and have long range. Only big companies will have access to it since its locked. can blow up harbors and anchored boats no problem. If this isn't nerfed in 1~2 weeks, I'll quit this game. The game has alot of potential, but you guys seem to just want it to fail lolz...........

Big ones have more firepower Big ones have more hp Big ones can turn faster Big ones sail significantly faster Wouldn't it be logical (from both a realism and gameplay perspective) for small ships to be faster than big ones? It's annoying to see a Sloop with 9 knots getting overtaken by a Galleon with 22 knots.

This is an issue that has happened to a few different players on different servers, different times, different hosts and I have yet to find a fix. Here's what happens: -A player is disconnected for whatever reason or logs off and when tries to log back in, they cannot. They get hung up on Loading Primalgamedata or at the loading mod screen. -Other players can join just fine. The player cannot recreate a character or choose another server. We have even had their character killed by a predator so that maybe it would cause the bugged out character to be able to rejoin somehow. It does not work. Here's what the stuck players have tried: -They have ran a file integrity check. They have uninstalled the mods and let them reinstall one at a time. They have tried joining the game through other players and through the server ip steam window. They have tried joining other servers and then coming back to this one. What works to fix the issue? -I can wipe the server and then the character is freed up so it seems like a possible character file corruption. How can this be fixed? Has anyone else come across this and found a fix?

I found this. You can edit the REDIS DB and remove all traces of the player. This sucks in that they must start over, but it should allow players to play again. A kind admin can give up some XP to help get them back on their feet. https://www.survivalservers.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6894-how-to-connect-to-the-redis-database-for-you-servers/

Whiners will be gone in a month anyway, leaving the people to live with their snowflake crap they did to this game. Its too hard! Im too hungry! Content locked behind achievements! Whine whine whine.

I keep saying, they need to make a sloop doc on galleys for use as an upgraded dingy and to go around islands and shit.

If you start game then sloop i best cause that's the one u can buy at free port. Schooner is really fast and i still use it for traveling, i also use sloops as well for little traveling. For fight and cargo i use brigantine about galleon its good for some big company i'm personally don't like sail with Galleon. Here's video so tell more that small ships are useless or something

I had similar experience starting small, and was offered a position in zerg eventually, also automomous position as a ship captain, but my mates said they would stop or reduce playing if I merged, and they didn’t want anyone else to run them or use their stuff. Combine that with my inherent dislike for large groups of people and reluctance to do small talk and keep discord comms open to hear unimportant laughter, farts, belches, banter, fuck, off topic etc, we refused that offer and continued to play as small company owning a pvp island, with high ciiteria whom do we let in. Some people just want small tribes, and devs did promise something of a sort for us.

So since you find the sailing part of a fantasy pirate themed game boring, your suggestion is essentially to eliminate the sailing part of the pirate game so you can more quickly get back to the non sailing parts of the pirate game because you clearly should never have expected to spend a lot of time in your pirate game sailing.... Do you see how your expectations and desires do not sound reasonable to those who do not share your let us say interesting take on what a pirate themed game should be?

Yeah, I've stopped sailing and now pretty much gonna quit playing until something is done. There either needs to be a huge nerf to these or anti-torpedo measures like a skill that allows you to spot it to dodge it easily, drop countermeasures for it to hit and AI auto fire grape shot to stop them from harbor diving. I heard some walled in port had 40+ ships sunk by 1-2 boats with torps, that's the definition of overpowered, just remove them from the game until more thought is put into them.
  26. 1 point
Dont give them ideas or we might end up with random keystroke minigames to keep the sails up. Want to anker? Random minigame..

The point of the forum is for anyone to voice their opinion and suggestions about the game and its current direction in an effort to have those aspects corrected as they might find agreeable. The DEVs will weigh the benefits against the detriments and decide which suggestions make more sense to the viability and future of the game. I fully appreciate that you like the sailing aspect as it is currently but you need to understand that I do not. In the PVP mode I play on, sailing is rather tedious, time consuming, risky, and prone to griefing. This is exactly what I am doing. It is boring to me so I am doing something about it. It really isn't for either of us to decide in the end, we can only voice our opinions.
  28. 1 point
It's just your opinion.. that you find sailing boring. I find it relaxing. I enjoy, sailing exactly as it is.

Wait...a fishing net that requires the ship to sail a minimum speed...requires bait? Really? FACEPALM OK, this is just that game dev mentality that something must be required to make something work, to make something else work, so you can build X, to make y work, to you can get Z. Makes sense sometimes, but in this case, it makes no sense at all.
  31. 1 point
I think they realized that they had to do something with the weight and handling sails, as people simply weren't using them, especially in PvP. Every Brig I saw, had 3 speed sails. Every Schooner I saw, had 2 Speed sails, 1 large, and 1 small. I really wish they would sort the sails for the smaller ships. Give us different sails for them. Because they are smaller, you nee d a hook to want to use them. So why not combination sails? Combinations of Speed + Weight Speed + Handlin Weight + Handling You choose which combo you want, depending on how you intend to use the ship. As it stands, the smaller ships do not have their historical advantages of speed and maneuverability. So why not give them that, but also give them some other options, to make them more attractive?

With Atlas Server Controller (ChromeSDK) it's possible to utilize whole 15x15 official map for a solo player by simply starting a grid you are playing in + another one when you are about to travel to.(Just like what singleplayer should have been). The only problem with it is that treasure map of 3+ quality require us to move from grid to grid, up to five. And if you pick up a high quality map with only one grid active, it will dissapear. I assume it is possible to make server generate treasuremaps for offline grids cuz it has map info (servergrid.json?) and through some testing-Taking a map for a grid(D10) and moving to D11, turning off D10, turning on D10, moving back to D10, it worked just fine. It would be a very nice fix for all dynamic grid servers.

That makes it worst. The only people with access to them are larger companies. One broadside of torpedoes sinks your ship. It wipes out all the planks on one side, and your decks. It is beyond stupid. To make it even worst, the torpedo boat is really light, since it isn't carrying a tonne of cannonballs and repairs for prolonged battle. So torpedo boats are going to be faster, they can sail up on you, fire one salvo of torpedoes and sink you.

Peace time is too valuable, and is worth some small tax rate IMO as well. Sad truth is, not only small companies, but also zerg companies who should fight other zerg, actually raid lawless for blueprints and gold. It is only matter of time. Seems lawless is meant for harvesting and temporary building only.
  38. 1 point
I agree, there is no way to protect ships from bored trolls passing by. Stone gate is one broadside+game over, so ship hangars dont help. 9hour combat window is not giving any troll protection as well. Anchored ships = invulnerable would be the perfect solution. Wouldnot hurt open sea combat but prevent offline lolstomping

As per their description: Fishing Net: Can only be used when sitting. Equips on the back slot. Will begin automatically catch fish when boat has met minimum sailing minimum velocity It doesn't automatically do ANYTHING. Why would a net require bait? Has anyone ever used a fishing net before? I wouldn't even mind the bait as much if it actually "automatically" caught fish. It doesn't. I hate it. A better option may have to been to just make it another boat attachment. That way you'd need a platform for it and could actually have a specialized boat for fishing...

It is NOT about being able to join a company. I often time avoid grouping because time and time again I am stuck in a group with little immature individuals who all talk about insignificant, immature, and annoying topics. Members oftentimes do intentionally erratic and silly things to piss one another off, initiating inner-fights and then they take pointless revenge on the company, destroying, stealing, or sabotaging all of our stuff. Grouping up with others in many MMOs these days usually is a waste of time and an aggravating experience. In MMO's, I have learned to live by a certain rule that I generally do not trust most players. Many of us prefer the challenges to go it alone and oftentimes have a life outside of video games. We are called "casual" for a reason and when you grow up, you should quickly realize, if you are fortunate enough, to have a career, bills, children, and then a little time left to settle down each and every night to play a few hours of the game. Not everyone is neglecting their families, unemployed or unambitious, or 10 years-old and without any sense for responsibility. Explain to me how I get there as each and every ship I have ever made either got sunk or gets stolen?

You might feel that way but the events are not killing the game. There are many, many other factors that are responsible for the drastic decrease in playerbase. The events probably have little to no effect at all. i mean even after the wipe only 2700 people returned after it was already down to 3000. Now they are already losing part of the 2700. Events don’t cause that. Not in the slightest.

Wall in this game is nothing. A standard wall gets wiped by 54 balls from standard cannon. Even worse when zerg with mythical large attacks your wall: 25k hp gets attacked by 10k mythical large ship cannon per only one cannon. Far too easy to raid in this game.

Would it not be better to have a dynamic peace timer? The islands with small size and small player pool to have more peace. Perhaps like this: - smaller islands get less war time (2 hrs minimum) - from there, each company member adds certain additional minutes of war time per island - from there, each allied company member adds smaller fraction of minutes of war time per island That way, zergs with tons of members, allies and a big island would get a non stop war time, while smaller would be protected.

I think this is just wrong. Not about if OP is right or wrong, but my idea is that a products promotes whatever it is. Its only a song,Its only a book, its only this its only that not reality dont really matter here. If I make a game promoting slavery, thats what it will be promoting.but its only pixels! not real man! see where this sink into zero meaning? If I make a game promoting throwing stones on others is that ok? cause only pixels? Whatever the media be,it may promote anything, and as that its a power full tool. As for the psychological ramifications etc im not expert. But hiding behind the sentence:"Its just a game" Is really wrong and ignorant in my eyes. Whatever the media,it will have an effect in real life, and it may enable or it may not, negative behavior.
