I've been playing Atlas since release, and after the wipe my boss from work picked up the game and joined my company. We went out to go do some treasure maps, and when we got to the island both of our vitamins were low so I grabbed some poop from my shoulder monkey and told my boss to eat it and respawn before we got off the ship. So I not only got away with telling my boss to eat shit and die, but he actually went and did it. I'm living the American dream, and it's all because of Atlas. Thank you, Grapeshot.

Thanks for the valuable feedback folks. We definitely want to see more players making use of shops, so let's see if we can get them in a better place.

The new system is great. We are tenants on an island we could not afford and have been here since day 1. A group came along and claimed the island on day 3, wen't and met them, they were nice people, we told them we were at a particular beach, they were fine with that and the only rule they had was not to pillar / foundation spam. We have expanded our base and are farming for a new dock. They could demo our stuff, but they won't. We could pillar / foundation spam, but we won't We could build huge ugly gate walls blocking resources and routes around the island, but we won't because they are not dicks and nor are we. We are situated in a very nice spot, good resources, good tames. 4 different biomes within 2 grids of travel giving easy access to farm for good BP's. This is a pirate themed game, and this system fits well within that. Claimed Islands with governors and lawless islands. And for those who's ego's get in the way of ever having someone above them on the ladder "grow up".

Why go to lawless, way more space on claimed land. Try communicating with people in the game it is multiplayer, find that governor that want's people to increase his tax timer. They will build ramps and routes up to those hard to reach resources, won't cost you anything and they'll get some taxes to compensate. Who'd of thought an MMO where communication and cooperation is a requirement for getting better faster. (Do you recall the plans they had for lawless? that didn't make it into the game yet. It might still be coming).

And Please No Auction House's.... Fix and get Vendors right but the moment you put in an AH is the moment you take any chance this game ever had of being a decent game with Trading and Economy and toss it right out the window!!! It will instantly devolve into World of Warcraft type theme Park crap economy!!! Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies did Economy right with Vendors!!! Learn from them....

The funny thing about gold upkeep for claims is that the only reason it's needed is because everyone doesn't get a claim, so it's for balance. You get a claim, he doesn't, you have to do upkeep, he doesn't, etc. If they used a claim system where everybody was expected to be able to have a claim, you wouldn't need upkeep. Everyone just gets one by virtue of paying for the game and playing it. The only real purpose of upkeep and decay in a game like this is to make sure that once people are gone from the game, their stuff gets removed. All that takes is a simple rendering timer like we have now for ships. You don't log in and visit your stuff in X days, it goes away. No need to reinforce that with upkeep and decay, it works all on its own. Yet another reason to go back to claims with limits: Everyone gets to own land No upkeep or decay needed on claims More frequent turnover of land so new people can find a claim easier No trying to balance ways the haves and have-nots can grief each other. He can delete your stuff, but you can spam pillars, etc. (Who the hell invents a system where you have to balance griefing anyway?) People get to concentrate on having adventures rather than fighting passive-aggressive pve battles over land and pillars, and worrying about having their stuff destroyed.

For me and my infinite wisdom, I was just sitting here thinking about other mmo games I’ve played in the past, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Elder Scrolls Online just to name a few and honestly I can’t recall any of them that required me to join with a guild, clan or company in order to do the pve side of the game. Now I know Willard and a few others insist that since this is a mmo ( Massively Multiplayer Online) game that alone means I should either for a company of my own or join a existing one and in part I guess they are right. Let’s see, when you claim an island or form an alliance then you need to have a company name and in case I’ve created a company because it was required. It has been a strong company and it endures through hard times and good times that the game has went through but with that said, the company I created was a company built for one person and that was me and me alone. Now I have had other members in the company with little issues and I’ve always felt that people could come and go as they pleased and as long as they didn’t tarnish the company name I didn’t care how long they chose to stay but in the end, after every one else has moved on I would still be there. Still supporting that same name. Do you know why ? Because the name means something to me personally and other company names don’t. This game could be played just like any other mmo out there if players would lose the power trip mentality or god complex they have going on, players like that belong in pvp because they are after fame, they want to be in the spotlight, they thrive on competition. They feel like they need to prove something to themselves or everyone else. I play in pve, casual, come and go as I please, take as much time as It takes to get something completed. I don’t get excited anymore over someone else who maybe faster, quicker, smarter or have more skill than I do. I have realized that trivial things like that means absolutely nothing in the real world. My boss doesn’t give two shits that I’m part of a company in a digital world that has 500 members or holds the #1 rank in said game, he only cares that I can do my job safe and efficient enough to make him money in which he will give me a small amount of it in return. I’m rambling, lunch is over and I lost my train of thought, pvp sucks, pve rules and this new claim system can kiss where the sun doesn’t shine.

Solo players do play in groups. They just don't join companies. (said for the 50th time) Here's another guy with a private hotline to the devs apparently. (After they said they were making changes to make the game more friendly to solos and small groups) It doesn't make things more true the more you repeat them. Otherwise I'd be rich now.

We were doing some nice fights on the sea and in enemy harbors yesterday. We probably discovered new toxic meta. You can build everywhere and everytime rn. We were on our gally in their harbor and owners simply put large shipyard behind our backs and blocked us completely. We destroyed that harbor and were moving away with gally, bam, big wall placed directly in front of us so we crashed into it. So rn you can't go to enemy harbors with your ships because you will get blocked with spammed large walls. You can practically wall enemy ship in a few seconds. There should be some kind of building cooldown if there is a fight going. I strongly advise everyone not to go inside enemy harbor until they fix this.

Hello, after today's patch which increased the speed of elevators have broken them for my base. They will only move up & down 1 elevator piece now. I keep clicking to lower & it just makes a noise & won't move down. I've cleared everything from the base of the elevator & this still happens. Please fix.

Don't start spouting nonsense for matter of fact... "Small teams and solo players can't defeat the kraken" How do you know this? Have you tried in a small group or solo to do this... or are oyu just assuming... you do know as a glorified solo player you still have the option to GROUP with people to achieve things temporarily right? Or are you just that dumb? Stop thinking of easy ways to achieve something you want and start thinking of constructive/engaging ways to achieve those things... my god. Every one of your posts... is GIVE ME GIVE ME, IM SOLO IM SOLO I NEED HELP WAAH WHY I AM SOLO BLAH BLAH BLAH.

By the way, such magical items could be used for increasing the cargo ability of a ship. I would like to see some sort of cargo crate that can carry more resources at a reduced weight, like x0.1 weight, but cannot be opened on the ship unless anchored. This would allow more resources to be carried on a ship, without unbalancing the repair vs damage in a battle. Now, this could cause a problem in a fight where you pull into somebody's port, and anchor to repair damage while fighting, right? Sure, but the consequence is that you are now a sitting duck to mortars, and cannon bears. If you have removed those threats, I think it hardly matters if you use surplus repair stores you are carrying.

All they have to do for an easy fix is to have an item that allows us to store pets within as an inventory item (like a ship-board pet-crate) or the second easiest fix is a skill that allows us to summon them from anywhere in the world if they have been lost and we don't know when or where along the journey.... with a lockout timer of a few hours to prevent abuse. The pet crate idea is the easiest to implement, because you don't need to worry about guild permissions and other mechanics as much: just despawn the pet into a pet token, and then respawn the pet and despawn the token when you call the pet.... the pet properties and stats would be stored in the item. ----------- Step 1: Item is triggered, pet stats (WITHOUT INVENTORY) are recorded... the item would not work with a pet's inventory just to make the implementation easier., only naked pets with stats. Step 2: Spawn the pet token in the pet-cage inventory and despawn the pet. Step 3: Profit! That would take a short time to implement.... mebbe a couple of days TOPS, because it will use mostly already existing code that is 'copy-pasted' and re-purposed. AND, they could claim it as a semi-permanent if not permanent fix, because that would completely stop the problem, putting the onus on the player for not using the item to secure their animals onboard, instead of on the developers. A Nash Equilibrium: a win-win. So..... let's recap: a.) fast to implement b.) repurposes mostly existing code c.) semi-permanent. d.) adds depth to the game and crafting system e. ) solves a potentially game-stopping problem for many people. If they don't do it, that means: a.) They don't care if it could be a virtually overnight fix b.) They don't understand their code enough to copy-paste it and stitch it together with modded code c.) They don't care about implementing a long-term "patch" that would solve the issue to a completely workable degree, allowing them to forget about it and focus on other stuff d.) They don't care about adding depth; cargo crates that make ship holds look "full," adding atmosphere as well as solving a mechanical issue. Seriously, this would be a no-brainer.

Even knowing the ratios I could careless about worrying about food. I just eat once in awhile to buy time to finish something. Rest of the time I go find a bear to kill me or jump off the ship. Less time involved AFAIK. Our wars and politics are the content and eating gets in the way of them IMO.

I think you've mistaken solo players for "players who want to play alone". Most of the solo players will tell you that they enjoy making friends as they go along and working with them to do things in the game. Just because a person doesn't want to join a company doesn't mean they are not playing the game with other players. Half the things solos have complained about with this game have to do with the game mechanics making that very difficult to do.

Pirates don't pay taxes in my opinion. I mean - they are pirates. A lot of "Arrrrrr" and rum and parrots. And even the description on Steam says "fantasy". They come up with mythical creatures and electric powered motorboats. So why implementing a real life tax system?

We got a pretty big island with a lot of resources and place for a bunch of settlers. If they ask, we explain friendly our rules and usually they're building the taming areas etc and do their stuff. All are happy. If they don't ask and build up their structures too close or in our little village, they have to wonder about, where their stuff is gone. As easy as it is. We won the island-race and pay now the island upkeep. That give us the rights to keep our place clean.

Sweet baby jesus ... you sail around and ask "hey, is build on island YXZ save?" and then you get your answers. Building somewhere without speaking to the owner seemes a bit stupid at the moment. I only gave you an example with what you have to deal on PVE.

We stopped asking after a few times. Best experience so far was a guy on an completely unclaimed, big island - we built a trap to tame a bear. He came and yelled something we couldn't understand, rushed over to our desired bear, killed it and told us that this is his island and we kindly have to ask him if we want to do stuff here. Big drama. And - because I don't want to loose the progress of weeks, I don't play PVP. That's it.

As I said - since the announcement many people left because they disagree and felt that their feedback was ignored. No, it was indeed ignored. Surely some of them never tried the new system, some of them may tried, but as we learned in the past, accepting players' feedback isn't Grapeshot's thing, so why should they take the trouble to write their complaints here after being ignored for three times? They left and this is it. What me personally bothers is the following: Pre-patch, we shared an island with 4 other companies. With one of them we had no contact, one company trolled us, and the other two were just nice neighbors. We get over the trouble with the one company and lived happily together - we owned with 5-7 active players 7 claim flags, and 6 of them were set to allow building for everyone with 15% taxes. The other companies on our island did the same thing. And guess what? Nobody built there, but all over the forum, players cried about not having space to build, what was clearly not the case (as you search the forum, you may even find threads where people invited others to their island). And now? After the patch, people still complaining about not having space to build - or, even worse, they think they can build and then their base is destroyed. My mate and me (the others of our company left the game because of the outrageous behaviour of the devs) started to play again right after the patch was released and didn't manage to get an island, because the devs didn't think about one simple thing: showing players that an island is currently in a claiming phase, but not yet claimed. So we sailed 9 hours from small island to island to finally notice, that a) the island is almost claimed, and b) that big companies claimed small island because they can't afford the big ones. In sum, I'm complaining now about the same problems others complained about pre-patch: I don't have an island and can't build, at least if I care about my stuff. I don't care about getting taxes or something, I want my own land where my stuff, my ships and my tames are save from others' stupid behaviour. The new system can't give me that.

Who do you want the CCC from eveyrone inside of the thread??? You need to communicate more specifically, For instance lets get player shops in a better position in the other thread??? What does that mean??? Have you lowered Upkeep cost have you changed the gold sink to a % of sales??? What did you do??? Nothing just gave us lip service???

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, it's not that easy. I joined the forum on day 1 and since then, people were complaining about the old system and wanted the flags to be limitated. That was clearly the dominant opinion here. And then, there was the Captain's log where they announced the wipe and that there will be NO claiming at all in PVE. People - inlcuding me - were feared about the pillarmaggedon that unavoidable would happen, and again, it was clearly said by the players that they only wanted the limitation. And then they announced a completely new system nobody ever had asked for (for me, it had sounded way better than no claiming system at all, although after trying it out now, I would be way more happy with a flag limitation). But so many people already stopped playing after the announcement of the no claiming system and before the wipe. You can cleary see how few gave a feedback on the last Captain's log, especially if you compare it to older ones. Some were gone forever, some came maybe back to try it out, get enraged and left too - after so many failures Grapeshot had made in the past, the players surely don't take the trouble to write their feedback here before they leave. So, in the end, when you talk about the "whole playerbase", you should include the ones who already gave their feedback (as the first change on the claiming system was announced), but lost their trust in Grapeshot and left the game already before the wipe. By the way, if you search the whole forums at this point, again the dominant opinion here is to implement the old claiming system with a flag limitation. But as I said, there were not many people left who gave feedback at all, compared to pre-patch days.

Still have spawns on my base. I was happy with the change, before I had so many wolves running around on my island it was insane. Just wolves as far as the eye could see. It was like the orcs pouring our of Mordor, except instead of orcs it was wolves.

If you're one of the 1% who own an island, you always think you're winning. Most will never own an island and are at the mercy of whomever does own it. It's like PvP in that you can be wiped at any time without warning. I don't see much difference between the current design and Medieval European social structure. It doesn't sit well with most contemporary game players. Limiting claims to 1 flag per person, with a predetermined claim size does several things. It gives the individual player a stake in the game. It incentivizes players to find like-minded players to team up with and create small groups for a little larger claim. And cap the number of claims any one tribe can have. Alternatively, have certain grids use the new whole-island-claim system and alternate grids use a one-claim-per-player structure. If I were a developer, I would want to deploy both systems and see what happens. Would most smaller groups/solo players flock to the one-claim-flag-apiece grids? Would larger companies grab whole islands and employ a nobility v. vassals social structure? I don't know, but since this is about Grapeshot testing the development waters for the next year-and-a-half, why not cast the net wide and see what they fish up?

I think the system itself is fine with some points adjustments on either island costs or how many a player is worth in a company. My company is currently 6 people and we have what I feel is a nice island. In some cases I've seen people complaining because a solo player wasn't able to get a 35 point island or 2 people wanting a 53 point island. I'm sorry...but I don't feel they should be able too. The whole problem with the last system was exactly that...people taking way more then was needed...simple human greed. This system solves that...and if you want to own an island...you gotta work for it. But I do agree there needs to be more small-middle islands. We have 2 settlers on our island...I don't think we've spoken to either of them because they are usually on when we aren't on. We don't have an issue with anything they've done and we're glad to have them. We have room for more without anyone crowding each other also.

While I don’t disagree with any of that, it misses the point. Ask the OP WHY they claimed an island in the first place? The answer will probably be something along the lines of they wanted to be self reliant, wanted to be master of their own fate, wanted to have the ‘best thing’ in the game (winning so to speak). People can’t claim an island cannot have those things... they are forced to settle for less. People who play games don’t want to settle for less... there’s enough of that in real life.

There aren't enough protections in place. Why would I want to invest my time and effort into a place where I can be kneecapped at the landlord's whim? It would make me play a minimalist's game and lose interest very quickly. Not being a stakeholder by having a claim, makes it easier to toss aside in favor of some other game.
  42. 1 point
    (2) Not enough islands for everyone to get one. Don't want to be a landlord, and definitely do not want to be a tenant. Only option left is lawless, but that is minority of the map. and I did quit, and uninstalled. looking for good reason to come back.

If it's 1 per minute is 1440 gold coins a day, but i agree the cost is insane. I can't think of anything you could sell that would make your shop profitable with those fees. A very small daily fee like 1% of what you have to pay now and a small cut on every sale would make much more sense to me.
