It’s been live for less than 24 hours, but I already have several concerns about the new claim system for PvE. There is a very finite supply of islands that a solo or small company is capable of claiming. After the 15 and 23 point islands are claimed, I think that the next point value is 53. The island points that a company can have seems to be 30 + 1 for every additional member. My wife and I have 32 island points available to use. This means that to claim even the 53 point islands, you need a minimum company size of 23. That’s quite the jump from solo, or a few friends. There is also a possibility of a large company starting off in small pieces to claim several of the smaller islands, only to merge together later. Multiple people can try to claim the same island at the same time. You end up with a confrontation with the claimers basically griefing each other until the other(s) give up. And if you’re the one that ends up losing, congratulations! You’ve lost the claim AND the gold it cost to drop the claim flag, so in the early rush you may not be able to even try again. The tax rates seem to default to 50%. 30% was stupid enough, but now in PvE you give up half of everything you farm, including gold from treasure chests, to the claim owner. Now the settlement owners can just sit there with a 50% tax rate and not have to do anything. The whole setup feels like it’s intended to cater to large companies. I haven’t done a count yet, but I believe that the majority of the islands will only be claimable by very large companies. Unless the small companies are lucky enough to get a claim early, lawless is looking like the only really viable option. Which is probably just as well, since getting gold after the islands are claimed getting gold will be twice as hard, since you’ll only get half as much. I know I’m being a bit pessimistic saying this, but they’ve really made me feel like they don’t care about PvE at all, aside from the cash the PvE players bring in when they first buy it. They remove one of the PvE maps to add a third PvP map, they setup PvE to almost solely benefit large companies, and it really seems that they didn’t think this through at all. The old system definitely had major flaws, but I think it was way better than this new claim system, at least for PvE.

The old system was fine all they had to do was limit the number of flags a company could put down. And i mean really limit like 2-3 as you do not need an entire island for a 5 man group.

wasn't empires server anounced to have 250 members per company cap? If he's talking about colonies, he has to go to the right server instead of complaining of the cap in the small company server.

Pre-patch, we managed to have at least half of an island with everything we need, because we simply were first on it. We were very social, had nice neighbors, let everyone built, but so many players cried about not having their own island, so they announced their stupid wipe. We left before the wipe and started yesterday again right after the patch, I think it was about 9 pm MEZ. We sailed the whole night and hardly could find unclaimed land anymore, and we realized that with the 12 hourly pays, it is simply not possible for 2-3 people (with jobs and a reallife) to pay the upkeep costs - at least at the beginning, where you want to get started and build your base and ships. Therefore many bigger companies claimed smaller island for the start, and I'm pretty sure even if they can afford the bigger ones, they won't give the smaller islands back. Some islands are again full with foundation and pillar spam. We stopped playing at 6 am MEZ, as we "lost" an island - it was declared as an unclaimed settlement, so we placed the flag, not knowing that it is not showing if someone already had placed one. I'm pretty sure they already destroyed everything we built. As we waisted so much time searching for an island, I'm pretty sure the best spots on lawless islands are already taken. So... a) your new claiming system sucks, all we need was the existing claiming system with a limitation to the flags. b) there are again far too few small islands for solo players and small groups with 3-5 players. Yeah, they COULD group up, but you said the game will be more easy for solo and casual players. So I don't get that point. b) your new "quests" are again only for bigger companies c) if I'm crying long and loud enough and stomp my feet because I can't have my own island right now, will you wipe again? Would only be fair, ya know You deserve those bad reviews on steam, as long as you don't start to listen what your players say. Yes, it is your game, but we - the players - are the one who pay you. It's all about the cash.

Thx for this new Claimsystem where you set up a few landlords as claimowners which have all force and might to bully others around if they dont obey without any chance to get something you really own. Your former system wasnt that bad it worked good when you had the protectection time down on 4 days (so it was possible to claim a abandoned claim, short after you put it up to 20 days which preventend any claiming). But i dont want to be bullied around from anyone and as it is already impossible to get something your own as an single player ill Quit and im sure many others would too. Thx again for this completely unfair and uncompetitional system wich only enables grief in a big scale.

small islands taken over by small / solo players , and are refusing to let anyone build quoting "this island is too small anything u build will be destroyed" nice work on this claim system that no one wanted or asked for , well done

The difference between playing pvp vs. pve is even bigger than the difference between the claims systems. Pve people don't like pvp.

What's stupid is trying to squeeze a mega onto a server designed to exclude them. You either A) Are afraid of fighting companies of equal size. B) like overwelming / unfair odds when fighting. C) unwilling to admit mega's are such a small minority that any server designed for them will be empty.

I’m somewhat disheartened by the new claim system. It is setup in such a way as to benefit large and very large companies, give medium sized companies some opportunities, and give very little opportunity for solo and small companies. So, this is what I’ve decided. I want to form a company that is made up of a large group of solo and small companies. I want enough players that we can take over one of the big islands. All members can interact with other company members as much or as little as they want. Keep it civil and respect other members space and feelings. I haven’t tried setting it up like this, but I would like to let everybody pin code their structures if they want. Every company member will have a plot on this island, and will be able to build whatever they want in it. People found building in uncommon or rare resource nodes will be asked to move, then unfortunately moved forcefully if they do not move. I doubt that will happen, but I want you to know beforehand. There will be a 10% tax rate on the island, but any resources besides gold will be put into a community chest so that they can be used by anybody. There will be a dock area with shipyards and crafting tables for all members that wish to use them. If you’re using a shipyard, please be able to finish your ship quickly so others can use it as well. Part if the dock area will be a place to setup a shop, with access for all visitors. There will be taming pens setup in several places around the island with unlocked gates. Anybody can use them, even companies just visiting. If you make a temporary taming pen on the island, then I just ask that you completely demolish it when you’re done. Treasure maps can be done on your own or you can ask others to join you. I find small groups to be quite enjoyable, and not cumbersome to organize. Donations for island upkeep would be greatly appreciated. Power stone runs can be organized, and eventually the kraken as well. If you want to join up, you can respond in this thread, send me a PM, and/or meet us in A5 on EU PvE. We’ll be building up supplies and gold to be ready to claim as large of an island as we’re able to. I’d like to have the group assembled by 5 PM UTC to claim the island and we can get started. Happy Sailing! Del

No one said a solo player should claim a large island, but what we see if the large groups taking the small island as it takes less gold and upkeep plus the smaller groups that could take the larger islands don't due to the cost. Basically people grab land to deny others land its so stupid. What we really need is instanced freeports where people live and the islands are for treasure hunting/resource hunting. Pvp people can hunt traders on he sea or treasure hunters, while you can have people hunt those pirates instead of base raiding.

Sorry for asking that harsh but After Reading some comments here im wondering how you are even able to turn a pc on. Searching And sailing 6 hours right After release And cant find a claimable Island? I mean u can open your atlas And See every Island with taxes owner And points u Need to claim them, it cant be easier. Also inviting People to your Company for Island points And then kick them? You for sure know that the Island points decrease And your ownership gets removed then. No small Islands Free anymore? A Single player is able to claim 2 Tier 15 Islands And there are many left which a solo player or small Company could claim. But yeah there wont be 44000 Islands for each player who wants to Play a massive Multiplayer survival Game. Also i was on 20 grids so far an none Said they would delete your structures. Also there is only a handful of Islands with a 50% tax. Sure no landlord would complain about taxes, cause they all got 6 kinda of each Ressource on the Island And Dont Need to Pay taxes .

    1. Do you want to keep new claim system ? Yes, may need tweeking as it's a new system. 2. Do you want old claim system back ? No, It was shit, easily exploited with too many bugs. Sort out your biased poll, or delete it.

I agree. You can justify their [ATLAS management/development] position all the different ways you want but in the end, this is simply showing the poor management, design and lack of experience the team working to create this game have become known for. Today, unlike back in 1997 (of which I started online gaming), having a PvE choice is considered a staple in design for games of this nature. Segmenting off European, Asian and North American is common but not providing both, or even all three, is almost unheard of today (or even back then) for all the different rule sets servers host.

Your statements so far in this thread make it plainly apparent that you DO lack an understanding of what EA entails, as just about every other poster has pointed out to you. At this point, you are doing the expected and digging in, refusing to admit your error. Accusing others of being sleazy when you failed to have proper expectations IS an error on your part, your unwillingness to admit so does not change this.

Greetings Shipmates! With the upcoming mega patch I know many of you are looking for a new community to call home. [A1] is a community a cut above the rest with a unique map design that has something for everyone. Are you looking to be a Pirate who terrorizes the seas and lives on their ship? We have you covered! Are you looking to be a Merchant who seeks out the rarest materials and opens up a trading port? We have you covered! Are you looking to be a Mercenary who builds an epic fortress and lays siege to your enemy’s bases? We have you covered there too! At [A1] we have implemented a groundbreaking map design and faction system. Our 7 x 7 world includes multiple Golden Age Ruins so all power stones are obtainable, a zone for the Kraken, Lawless zones, PvE territories, and PvP regions. Our faction system consists of 3 individual groups. Merchants (PvE), which are your more traditional PvE role, will spawn with 20% more carry weight and intelligence. Mercenaries (PvP), which are your traditional PvP role, spawn with 20% more HP and Stamina. Pirates (Lawless PvP), which live on ships or on land that is claimless in Lawless regions spawn with 50% more Oxygen capacity and Gold Find as well as 20% higher Melee. Ahoy Pathfinders! ATLAS 1.5 has arrived! ATLAS has been revised and re-envisioned in this Mega-Update 1.5, which is the culmination of 3 months of live feedback from players since launch! We know that this update has taken quite some time and we really appreciate everyone’s patience as we get our feet wet redesigning the claiming system, expanding the map, and getting all the content ready. As a team, this has been one of the largest updates we have ever worked on and we’re incredibly excited to get it out to you. We believe with these changes, ATLAS has come a long way and we’re going to continue to remain dedicated to the game, bringing you more major updates a monthly basis, which will include more content such as new items, weapons, creatures and new areas for players to check out! And now here’s what you can expect with ATLAS 1.5! official servers & claim changes With this update, we’ll be launching 4 fresh Official Networks to represent 3 different game modes, each with a unique claim system. We want to give you the choice to choose the mode which best represents your playstyle. Colonies PvP: Freeform building, with more progress-protecting and time-enforced PvP rules creating a cooperative atmosphere, and limits to ensure the game is more oriented towards single players and small to mid-sized groups. We’ll have two official networks available for this mode, one in Europe and one in North America. Empires PvP: This is our previous PvP mode. There are no limits on claim flags, and company sizes are at a maximum. We’ll have one Official Network in North America where players can fight it out to determine which Empire holds control of the ATLAS. PvE: This will be based on our Colonies mode, with the PvP specific elements disabled. There will also be additional limits on companies in terms of how many islands they can own based on how large they are. We’ll initially be launching one network hosted in Europe, with another North American network to follow in a few weeks (the hardware is currently being prepared!). Jump aboard and explore a greatly expanded World Map with new islands and regions ready to be plundered! With this update, The ATLAS world now has 40% more islands and unique land masses to grab as your own, along with a new biome and world map layout to explore. Take an explosive foray into new missions and quest lines and uncover the depths of ATLAS with new mechanics and items! Take a deep dive into new underwater content and explore the depths of the deepest ocean trenches in the brand-new Submarine, but be on the lookout as the ruins are guarded by powerful underwater creatures and are home to the Giant Crab! Construct towering monuments that will stand the test of time! With a revamped building system, you can be more creative than ever in the world of ATLAS. Immortalise your enemies via the thoughtful process of converting their heads into mementos to adorn the perimeters of your Company's lands. Catapult yourself into new raiding strategies and let loose the savage in you (and perhaps the contents of your stomach as you become airborne). Form a fleet and traverse vast expanses of ocean beneath the guiding light of the Aurora Borealis dancing on the horizon and reap the extra bounties she grants. Try your hand swinging across mountains with the new physical grappling mechanics. A whole new world of adventure awaits you! patch notes New Features and Content - Redesign: ATLAS World - 40% more islands/landmass & new world map layout. - Redesign: Claim System - Colonies: Freeform building, with more progress-protecting and time-enforced PvP rules creating a cooperative atmosphere, and limits to ensure the game is more oriented towards single players or smaller groups. This game still needs plenty of client and server optimizations and it seems this game is heavier on the cpu side of things than gpu. I am running a I7-3770k, 16gb ram, and a 1080ti. I got my best performance boost from OC'ing my cpu from factory turbo 3.8ghz to 4.2ghz. Going from a GTX970 to a 1080ti did not help as much as I thought it would. Rest of my games scream now due to that gpu upgrade though.

My suggestion, open NA PvE with all lawless and structure upkeep like originally announced. The EU would be the large group server, and NA would be small group server. Since NA is small group server pillar spam would not be needed and punished with Admin action is company structure wipe. People that like the large companies would have a place, as would people that like small ones. Personally I like EU players on the server with us Na players

Makes me wonder if this was the intent all along.... if so, it’s a pretty shitty way to treat the NA PVEers..... lead us to believe the NA PVE server is a for sure thing so we might or might not jump in on the land rush when the EU PVE server went live.... by the time the NA players find out that if they wanted land they had to compete with the EU land rush it’s too late..... the terms of service and common decency prevent me from expressing how I feel about Dolly and the rest of the Grapeshot team.....

I also swim below the surface (in life and in game). Filled my child nerdy brain with way too much info on cryptids and convinced myself that the lake my day camp was on had a monster. Even kayaking on that same lake today makes me nervous, even though I know it's only around 330 ft deep and the biggest, scariest thing in there is landlocked salmon. And the scariest thing in the ocean around here isn't the occasional great white... it's getting run over by an oil tanker or a floating city of a cruise ship.

that should not be a thing if the game wishes for long term growth. kinda says, if you don't play day one, don't bother. It seems the game is back to square one with people not being able to claim anything or being bullied of their plot. As i said ages ago, this is a pirate game, not sure why there is even a landlord system, but if they're set on this then allow players to live on their ships like pirates would, it would mean if a player isn't able to get a spot or doesn't want to deal with a overseer, then they have the option of being their own master. Create a ship and place a flag or something on it, which sets it as your home, increasing stats to allow living to be manageable, which also could open up more skill lines or stats to further customize and improve ship living.

You dont get discovery points from your home server, keeps people from just spawning on every island and claiming all the discovery points without traveling there via ship

as title , give us flags we can craft so we can put our company logos on them

This is just about the dumbest thing I have ever seen. How is this a helpfull claiming system for smaller companies when the smaller companies can't even claim a island. Btw the absoloute best part about all of this is that you smart heads decided that wiping on a thursday in the middle of a weak was a great idea. Because people don't have work or school right?

This thread needs a title change. Notice that the announcement language has changed from a "couple" weeks to a "few" weeks.

Why do I need an Island claim with a new10 day decay on Lawless? I choose spam over taxes and EU over NA because NA is NA (not available)

They will tweak it based on player feed back, remember to give your feedback across all communication systems they have in place. Also remember that it’s going to be majority based, land owners won’t be complaining taxes are to high or they have the island set to allow only company or allies to build. One messed up system after the other

Glad we're back up and running! Still a work in progress but after 400 hrs I figure I got my monies worth already compared to some "finished games". Thanks for all the hard work. I also missed this. I think you still have a ways to go with how you communicate with your customers. Do we really need to be on steam, twitter, facebook, discord and this website to be in the know? Food consumption seems really high at the moment. Spawning in the sky and falling to your death is still a thing. Game on!

There I was again disputing the crap of a piece of land with a Chinese just as in December last year I was with the insane lag since for my happiness the server NA PVE was turned into a PVP and the Chinese with low level dying of cold and hunger and for the snakes that are 90% of the predatory animals of this game (the devs must have some fetish with these cobras) just waiting for one of us to give up and being sure that at any moment someone would give respawn on the island and contested "Our flag again and stay in this loop for many hours. I had fun times fighting SOTD in the Golden Age and collecting high level NPCs and wild level 30 animals. - Never seen Kraken, Crab, Dragon. - I found the merchant boat four times that completely useless." - Never met a Mermaid. - Never been able to kill any creatures in a Golden Age." He did not have time to test the submarine in the PTR. - I spent 4 days in January building when it was still 1x rate doing a Galleon I tested it for ten minutes and went to sleep when I went back to play the ship had sunk. - LOL I could never use or build a mythic or legendary weapon or tool despite being level 76 never had skill points for these things. I only got a decent piece of land a two weeks ago when and soon after they announce the wipe that unfortunately was necessary and I spend much of the time was paranoid with problems of Atlas as snakes magically popping up inside my house or random boats blocking my harbor and of course "Chinese Chinese Chinese". It's almost certain that other wipe will come in version 2.0 or release of the final version of the game and I'm tired of that stress.

Your are right, no one forces us to do anything, no one forced us to buy a EA game and no one forced us to deal with all the bugs, lag, claim issues, griefing, exploits and the wipes. We choose to deal with all that has happened and what will happen because we enjoy the game. All most of us has ever asked for was for the developers to be fair in the choices they make for PvE and PvP alike, we know they can’t make everyone happy but choosing to keep the NA pve server down for two more weeks makes absolutely no sense in any shape or form. That’s like saying we are taking the pvp servers down and those players will have to play pve. Where EU pve players will be in game and learning the new mechanics and starting to build their visions all the NA pve players can’t. So a few will go to the EU server to experience everything in preparation for where our server comes back up and others will try to pvp some. There needs to be a line drawn at some point that the players are going to draw that makes the developers think more before they act. At least explain the reason behind their decisions.

Your'e kdding right? The islands will all be taken up the first day. Those of us who work have absolutely no chance of getting an island since we dont eat, sleep and crap pc gaming (also dont live in moms basement). This claiming system is far worse that what we had.

I was fed up of the constant Official grind so looked to Unofficial for my Atlas kick. Little did I know that I'd find this gem sat there waiting for me. Smooth servers, no lag, its the way the game should be played. Great community and admin team. Join us!!

Nice work. I have been doing something similar, but using a Node.js program to extract the info and make JSON files that I can use to help make a map. Some work-in-progress files attached. There may be errors, YMMV, WIP, etc. Note that without an update of the Dev Kit, I don't have the information to extract the new islands or trench. ResourceExtract.7z

I would have split option 1 up. I'd assume the population will be between 5-10k. If the chances and patch are well received that could create a chain effect that increased the player base in the following weeks.
