You basically have the same decay rates as in the lawless, plus you pay taxes and we still have to find out what happens on a potential change of ownership. This does not look good at all.

If only Wildshot™ saw fit to fully inform their own playerbase by posting info like this themselves to their own official forums instead of leaving some folks to wonder because they don't follow twitter or instagram or grinder or whatever social media platform the devs deign to communicate via this week. I know, I know. I'm just talking crazy talk. *eyeroll*

Sure. But should we throw our hands in the air, despair of the inevitable and announce that since there is no cure for cancer, fighting it is pointless? There is a certain segment of humanity that has decided the fact their parents didn’t love them enough is the internet’s fault. I feel no particular compunction to make things easier for these misguided folks. I believe in the inevitability of only a few things: entropy, the inaccuracy of airline schedules, the erosion over time of the sock count in my wardrobe, and the location of my private cell phone number within the databases of telemarketers bent on selling me things I don’t want at times that couldn’t possibly be less convenient.

To end griefers spoil the game there is just one solution: enforced game rules. If a player behaves in a griefing sort of fashion. Building spam, KOS outside of lawless islands, repeated killings, uses exploits, alll the above mentioned by you guys, there needs to be a reporting mechanism. For each violation the steam id is blocked from playing for a longer period of time. After 3 validated reports the steam id is blocked for a month. That gets rid of the buggers. Believe me.

Here some thoughts from our company after extensive testing on the PTR: We went in to test and look at this from the way the Colonies-system was announced: for small till mid-size Companies. Not for big and mega-companies. So we went it and tested with this in mind with only a few people (we are otherwise allied with a mega-company). - First off: I love the Discord-Webhook-feature! It works great and was not difficult to install at all. Fantastic tool! Also love the fact you can decide what should be posted from the bot. - the entire idea behind the Colonies-System is great. It needs changes with numbers though to be valid for small/mid-companies. As it is now the Colonies-System is still focused on mega-companies and they profit the most. The company-limit is way to high as of now and does not force mega-companies to the Empire-System. 1 company = 50 people + 4 Allys a 50 ppl = 250 people in total that can play together without to big issues. 250 people are NOT a small or midd-sized company. They even profit from splitting into allies by getting more Island-Points in total like this. - This goes on to the 9 hours war-time: it's way to long for small/mid-size companies. People in this range have jobs and families. It is absurd to somehow come up with a window of 9 hours a day for this group of people. It is completly fine on Empire - but this is EXCLUSIVLY ment for small/mid-sized groups. NOT the hardcore zerg-groups. Because of this its also not valid to counter this argument with something like: get bigger and find people from diffrent time-zones. Thats fine for Empire yes, but not for Colonies. - The 9 hours are also an issue because stealing an Island is super fast. Don't get me wrong: I like the fact it goes so fast! It makes the game more dynamical. But because it's so fast, the war-time is more important. Shorten the window. Or as alternative maybe have diffrent long hours for the diffrent Island-sizes? The big ones have 9 hours, the middle ones 6 and the small ones 4? Just an idea. - Continue to extend the settlement-feature. There are some great ideas around here on the forum. Much potential with this. We found also that this is a possibility to attract people that would be intrested in PvP but went to PvE because they hate the offline raiding. We allready found people that would come from PvE and are willing to give PvP a try and wan't to settle on a Island with a good landowner. - We really like all the new items. The large wall is great and price seems reasonable. The symbiose between Bank and claimflag is fantastic! It helps to secure an island big time. Very well done! The 2x2 gate is a great addition. Keep things like that coming! Islands - we traveld and explored extensivly - the only Grids we did not research are the Polar ones and H8 (ofc): - Many of the new Island messed up spawns of entire servers. As example the western tundra Servers have huge issues: some islands have overpopulated spawns meanwhile other islands are nearly empty of spawns (only have some flyers). - To many Islands are wasted by being unusable. It doesn't help anyone if you add so many new islands but a big numbers is not usable at all because a key ressource got forgotten. As example having copper as main-metal but forgot to plant a sugar-spawn on 1 of the islands in the server, meanwhile the others have it. Meanwhile some Islands are simply broken OP-good. - To many Islands are wasted by really bad, weird conditions of the ocean-floor around the islands. According to the latest patch notes this should have been fixed - could not confirm this yet. Something entire diffrent.... please for the love of blackbeard: MIND THE TIMEZONES WHEN LAUNCHING THE NEW SERVERS. There is no reason to launch the EU-servers at 3 am for EU. This is a perfect example of cattering to mega-companies. They can afford to rush an island at 3 am: small/middle-ones with ppl that have jobs and families can't. There are enough time-windows that works somewhat for all involved timezones. And if you can't agree on one then split the launch or push it to the next morning. This is something that is easy managable but has a huge inpact on how people will feel about the game. If Colonies are really ment for the small/middle-sized companies -> don't launch it through hardcore hours. You can hear left and right how people are saying: if we don't manage an Island this time - thats it for us. I've forgotten probably some things and will add more later. Thank you for everyone managing to read this far, I am sorry for my potato english and typos.

While I appreciate the efforts of the team to develop a solution for land claiming on PVE, this system is a mess. Within seconds of completing my starter building on an island claimed by our company, a new player spawns and builds almost right up against our walls. Yes, we were able to destroy his building, but what if we had been offline when he built? We work, and some of us cannot get on for a day when working. I was unable to get on until Tuesday night, having worked for 48 hours. The current system encourages trolling and foundation/pillar/building spam. If nothing else, an option on the flag for "No building except allies" or even "No building except company" would be nice, with the company understanding that all upkeep is their responsibility. This would allow folks to land and collect resources, but not troll by pillar/foundation spam, and build right on top of other players. Even a HUGE radius of no-build next to enemy structures would be nice. I dare say we return to the old flag system for PVE, so that players can stake out claims, build in peace, and have the beautiful views we love on PVE, without being trolled or spammed. There are going to be shipyards on top of each other, clogging the waters, building everywhere destroying resource spawns and the beauty of the landscape. Please, please reconsider this land claim solution?

I really like the snowstorms in the Tundra, it's a great addition. The sound of the wind is really loud however. I have to turn down the SFX volume when it snows. The wind sound drowns out the sound of everything else, including people talking. I'm not sure if this is intentional but a large decrease in volume would be nice. Also, it's a small detail, but the snow only appears to fall about 10-15 feet away from the player model. It looks like you are walking around with a giant umbrella overhead. Looking forward to the update.

Yeah if you don't do tames, you wont be able to keep up... and I don't know how you like the ship combat with 50 million cannons on one side... god if they remove every tame except for horses, and put cannons into only gunports... I'd be super happy.

Our harvesting shouldn’t make someone’s else’s gameplay easier just for being the first one on an island with the stuff needed to buy it. This is not a fun system for solo or small groups of players.

For an Early Access game the people that play this game think its LIVE and don't like wipes... In my opinion we shouldn't even be wasting time on PTRs... everything should be on the Early Access Offical Live servers.... its not rockets science... this is EA... not retail.

The best Atlas server out there! PvP server with Fair rules and admin's who are very helpful and does not interfere in the gameplay as in alot's of other servers. Very NO-WHIPE focused admins and thats also a very good thing because i hate servers who whipe often. // Happy gamer :D

I understand that we are in a test mode and the harvest rates are high, however there is no need for settlement owners to tax at 50%. If it's 20X or 2X's harvesting, taxes still take half of your gathered resources. I also don't see the need for taxes in PVE in the first place. If there is anyone who likes the claiming system and the taxing structure on PVE, I'd like to hear from them.

Lets see if I can come up with an estimate that will be close. Patch is supposed to be released on the 11th so if we figure shortly after lunch cause no one wants to release before lunch in the chances something is broken! Then add their history that every release has been delayed until evening so let's say around 20:00 hours on the 11th. So I'll estimate 20:00 hours on the 11th. Wait, every single patch has also been delayed 2 to 5 days for "last minute changes" so then add around 24 to 120 hours to that estimate. So sometime around December 13th at 20:00 hours. Wait, wait! The 13th is a Saturday. If they release on Saturday and SHTF then they'll be working all weekend. So push that to 15th around 20:00 hours. Wait, wait, wait! That won't work. No one releases a big patch on a Monday. Monday's suck and no one's brains are right so push that to the 16th. So the 16th around 20:00 to the 19th around 20:00. Just kidding Devs, you know we love you! Just keep us posted a little better and we'll be like fat kids in Charlie's Chocolate Factory! Ok?!

old claim system , with limits and possibly square claims if they can do it , and yes i'm going to spam this all over the place as it what was asked for by the majority of forum users the early access waffle about helping to shape the game as it developed is bullshit .....the devs just plough ahead with this retarded 1 player claim system
  27. 1 point
Yeah but anyone that suffers from sleep deprivation because of a game only have themselves to blame because it's just a game. If this game keeps PvE structure decay as 4 days then i won't play anymore, won't make myself play constantly and suffer health issues because of it. 20 or 21 days like they changed it to pre-PTR is what it should be. I'll be happy with that.
  28. 1 point
The real question is the reason behind the tax after only one player can claim an entire island. Why should other players share their time an ressources with any unwanted landlord? what will the get in return?
  29. 1 point
I assume that the devs have good reasons for trying a claim system in PVE that is similar to the one in PVP. It could work provided an advantage is added for people not belonging to the owning tribe to build there. And it needs a control mechanism for the owning tribe to allow and disallow buidling liberties. The purchase of deeds, in order to lease landplots would be a positive twist, a better story line than what currently feels like serfdom. Survival+ has proven that this works well in PVE.Their implementation is intended for house-a-city building rather than facilitating multiple bases on an island, but it is conceptually the same.

Ehh, how I hate that litter. "Temporary" means builder never removes it...

I like these suggestions, I'd just add a couple. 1.) Give the land-owner the ability to deny build rights or evict a toxic company by recording and inputting that Company's ID Code into an exclusion list, kind of like the old flag system had where you could give permission to a company to build but reverse where you can deny a company. (This allows for a Company to deny a pillar spammer, but doesn't prevent trap building or starter bases and such) 2.) When a land-owner adds a Company to the inclusion list that unlocks build limits it also increases a Company's decay rate from 4 days to 16-20 days. (This allows more casual and smaller companies that are trying to build a "home" to not have to worry about maintaining their structures while on vacation, traveling, or if they can't log in except on weekends.
  33. 1 point
Need a trap to tame animals not available on your island? Do you want to breed Tames at a small outpost in the correct biome? Lot's of reasons to build temporary or small buildings away from your home. and you want people to tell you "nope, not on my land"?
  34. 1 point
I agree that almost regardless of what anyone wants or wanted from Atlas, and many different people wanted many different things, so far it doesn't seem to be turning out to be what very many of us wanted at all. That is fixable, but long is the road and hard is the way out of hell that leads up to heaven, to quote Paradise Lost, and right now Atlas feels a lot more like MMO hell than MMO heaven.
  35. 1 point
Hey man, I am not saying they are wrong for wanting it. But yes you are right I wouldn’t want to do it. But with you saying all of that(which is fine) the player shops definitely counter act with all of the above. So even if my assumption of players was wrong(very well could be) my assumption of the devs kind of looks pretty logical since they are adding in player shops. i am sure the traders won’t like playershops because it would take a way from that experience, but it will make things a lot more efficient. i think the real problem here boomer isn’t whether I dislike it or you and others do like it, I think it is about what the game has become. When success is based on progression rp/trade/community type of gameplay really just goes out the window. i wish it didn’t have to be that way. With Megas around you have to constantly worry about defense. Doesn’t leave much time for that stuff. this game has become a build a boat. Then get some tames, then build a base, then build better ships and go raid people. Oh and try to be in the top 10. i don’t want that to be the way the game is but it sure is turning out to be that way. I the game was different I wouldn’t see a problem with all the trade. Like if it was actually like an mmo and not ark. Sorry but I am going to say it again, the way this game plays is ark. it could be a lot different but it’s not
  36. 1 point
Yeah, they really should have just made a lot of servers. Never saw the point of this big world before, it was pretty much a gimmick to excite people. after that didn’t work and the numbers dropped they should really just split up the servers. This could actually be a very good idea and get rid of part of the mega problem
  37. 1 point
I am sure you don’t sail to the region and get it from them. You probably pick it up at the player shops. Like they leave the materials in the shop and then people go there and buy it. so the people won’t actually see each other. The transaction is automated
  38. 1 point
I did think that maybe my structures on an unclaimed island had 4 days decay because it was unclaimed and therefore acts like lawless and if it becomes claimed it might change. However, I logged on this morning, found someone had claimed the island but still 4 day timer. I'm pretty sure if the resource structure for structure upkeep was coming it would be part of the PTR though. If the 4 days timer is only for the purpose of PTR then really that should be made clear, because everything I experience that is not clearly stated (i.e. like increased gathering rates etc) I will assume is what it is meant to be like in 1.5. I hope it does not stay as 4 days because we'd be back to square one.

Everyone can build 24/7 on your island. Island owners cannot demolish anything built by a non-company member. In combat phase 9 hours of of the day anyone can build cannons and whatever else they want on your island. ANYONE can build cannons... EG: why the hell does it matter if I stop my allies from putting down cannons during peacetime... when they can just wait and put cannons up during combat? ( did you guys even use your head on this? ) Structures are a luxury of the defender and should not be something an attacker gets... this is a completely fucked system and needs to be changed ASAP. So we are clear. You mad a mechanic to please forums nerds that don't play your game. This mechanic is... Anyone can build anywhere... I am guessing this was to allow solos, smalls, and noobs play the game right? Wrong land owner is gonna see this... wait till peace time or not wait and just utterly destroy that place.... The only thing this mechanic does is make it easier to attack the island....

TL; DR - We had a relatively mild PvP experience and survived without a scratch. Not everybody can play PvP, even if they want to. Don’t shaft PvE players solely to benefit PvP players. Read on at your own discretion, It was relatively unremarkable, but it reinforced to me that while I was mildly interested, PvP is not for me. We ended up in a golden age ruins, forgetting it was a golden age ruins in our quest for buried treasure. We risked a sunken ship spawn to see what the drops there were like compared to the rest of the ocean (spoiler alert, no difference in loot at all). My first mate stripped and used the diving suit to go down and retrieve the booty. Despite being between two fleets of the damned, they never actually came close until we were leaving. As we sailed off in our brig, I noticed a schooner threading its way through the same fleets we had just avoided. It came to an almost parallel path to us, and was slowly catching up. As we got closer to the border, I saw that it’s rear was loaded with cannons, which made me watch him more closely, just in case. Not wanting to risk being caught unawares, I turned sharply with the wind, turning our course from the west to due north. When they started to turn, I knew they were going to try and sink us with their rear wall of cannons. Not being experienced at all in PvP ship combat, I did the only strategy I could think of to keep them from shooting us; I started tacking with the wind so that they had to keep changing directions to follow us. I had our four rear medium cannons start firing, hitting them several times, and it seemed like they were going to back off, until they started coming about again. The problem for us was that, unknown to him we had just taken down four of the galleons of the damned, as well as a few schooners. We had 26 cannonballs left to fight them off at the start, and we were now down to 10. So I sailed for the border, and after crossing turned due south, as we were near the southern border as well. As were were comin*up to the southern border, I saw them enter, and then shortly after start turning towards us. My first mate was telling me that she thought they were giving up, but I didn’t agree and decided to try and lose them in a quick series of border crossings. We ended up going east, and then north, back into the golden age ruins. We sailed north for a short ways, and then turned west to follow our original course, with the schooner no longer in sight. We made it home safely, docked, and then started makin our plans for when the servers go live, based on our experiences. I know, hardly a riveting story of daring and heroic battles. It cemented in me that while we absolutely love playing the game, PvP is not for us. When he started turning to chase us down, at first I wasn’t too bad, but shortly after it really triggered my anxiety. So much so that my hand holding my mouse was shaking uncontrollably. My first mate had already complained a couple of times about me risking our ship, to which I emended her that this was all temporary at best; I wasn’t worried about losing the ship or anything on it at all. We hadn’t even been fired on through the whole encounter. And I guess this is the real reason I’m posting this. I know that as soon as the PvE servers are back online, we’ll be on and back to adventuring on the high seas, and loving every adventure. When they took down the EU PvP servers to setup the PvP test server, at least the NA PvE servers were still up for those that wanted to play. But, then they took down the NA PvE servers to set them up for Monday for testing, leaving PvE players with nowhere to go except to try their luck in PvP for the weekend. They left the EU and NA PvP servers up, and then added a third PvP test server, all at the cost of the PvE players. I’m sure that I’m not the only person that can have a negative psychological impact from PvP, and I would describe mine as mild at its worst, but I can see that others may have worse reactions, Possibly bad enough to give up on the game entirely. I would just ask that the developers not completely shaft the PvE players so obviously. Some of us PvE players are actually interested in the idea of PvP, but for varied reasons may not be able to actually partake in PvP combat. The reality is that I, and others like me, are unable to get any enjoyment out of actual PvP combat. Not necessarily because we suck, or that we don’t want to risk losing our precious ship, but because we may have a strong psychological and/or physiological reaction to an interpersonal, combative situation. Or perhaps have a physical condition that limits the ability to be competitive in PvP combat, but PvE is doable. No, nobody forced us to play on the PvP servers. We could have waited until Wednesday for the PvE servers to be up, when we’re working long days and would not have the time or ability to try out the changes so that we know how things will (possibly) work when the update goes live. We knew what we were getting into, I just had no idea that I’d have that reaction. Holy crap. That turned out much longer than I thought it was going to be. If you’re still reading this, congratulations! Meet me on the NA PvE servers when the patch is live and I’ll give you a present. Maybe some thing small, maybe something big. But probably something small.

I enjoy Atlas as well as Ark I started playing them both for the same reason each of them are a very niche game. I stopped playing Ark because with each update and each expansion the game started leaning to this space age content that ruined many aspects of the game. Lets face it nobody really wants to see a player zip passed you on a jet-pack shooting a laser weapon while you are deeply immersed in a prehistoric moment on a game. I always figured cartridge weapons in Ark was riding on the line of acceptance however it was easy enough to accept with thoughts of Jurassic park in the back of your mind. With Atlas I approached it with some apprehension same creators same mistakes? For a while no it had seemed that Atlas was going to hold true to the pirate theme (Well besides the ships of the damned which should be the same type of ships we use only modified in ways to make them unique given what they are.) But as with many other gamer's I am able to accept certain things as being inevitable. With the announcement of the submarine I am starting to think to myself here we go again. Now with the new photos of the tames. The creature with the shell sporting a mowhawk idk the other looks like someone was carrying vials of dna containing Elephant, Camel and Impala specimens tripped on a misplaced extension cord and mixed all three specimens together before creating the test tube abomination that we see in the screenshots. Many people in these forums say oh its early access be prepared for the game to change drastically and I agree with that loosely. If your calling card to the game is the logo you have created or the depiction in your cover art then you would be safe to assume that this is a pirate themed game. Ships with sails flintlock pistols blazing away sword fighting buccaneers sailing the seven seas looting and plundering the entire way should be the norm. Mythical creatures oh heck yeah Cyclops, Hydra, Mermaid's luring you to certain death with a sirens song now you have got my attention. Fighting ships that look like bad renderings from an early Rob Zombie production not so much. Fire elemental's and rock elemental's why are they even in this game seems to be a very lazy approach to a lack of villains in the cast so hey lets just copy and paste this guy from our other game and just to make it interesting lets take away any toolkit he could have to destroy these things and see what happens. The soldiers of the damned are all but laughable if your so stupid as to attack them without a tame you may kill one and damage a few more for them to only disappear below ground and regenerate for the next round providing that they don't bug and you don't get the treasure anyway. PVP claim system rework that's nice how about addressing the core issues for PVE? Starting with the PVE claim system you cant take those back without conflict and conflict isnt allowed on PVE so what is the plan with that. If you don't have some sort of system in place for claiming then building in PVE will remain a joke. Removing alliances from PVE is not going to resolve any real issues only creates more for those that are uncertain about joining a company for fear that they will be kicked out and lose what they have done. (I have seen this happen in the chat many times.) So for PVE what are the options join a company and hope they are decent people which that is a rarity in this day and age or, stay in your own company and hope you can pick up randoms that will not create issues themselves. The only answer to those problems was sharing alliances with other companies. You get to keep your company and keep the things you have spent so long earning in the game while sharing the group experience and in many cases the only way to truly progress in the game is with a large group completing powerstone's defeating the kraken etc. One thing to help with the company issues is to make things like ships tames and buildings owned by the player instead of the company. That will eliminate those little issues like players joining companies and losing the ships and tames they worked so hard to obtain. Griefing is another serious unaddressed issue companies parking ships to block your ships in building structures just outside of your base area effectively blocking you from being able to build or utilize your own ships. Giving the Chinese players their own server would go a great distance towards resolving most of those issues. And before someone says utilize a reporting system how are you going to report someone named square square square square square from the square square square company. But we have decided to add submarines to the game they will be unarmed vessels used in the exploration of shipwrecks.... Well maybe we will ad a harpoon or two. Hmmmmm can one imagine the possible ways this thing will be exploited already. Why the need for a submarine may I ask add the shipwrecks and buff the diving suit making it a viable option for sea exploration. I can't help but feel there is one person on the dev team that wants to add laser beams and rockets to every project that person encounters. I have a cure for that hand that person a pc buy them a copy of No Man's Sky tell them to make that game better. Problem solved we could get back to what the player base actually wants which is simple. Ships that work properly crew that work properly tames that work properly and an environment that works properly. You shouldn't have to go searching for tames when you log on because they teleported while you was offline. Your crew should not hop off the weapons unless you tell them to (Including those moments when your tames and or crew go floating off into god only knows where in the heavens while still in the mounted station position.) and there should be a way to easily assign crew to a station so you can hit a button wherever they are on the ship they can return to that station. When something is clearly out of range your crew shouldn't fire at it. Larders ammunition boxes and resource boxes should attach to the ship in the same way you shouldn't need multiples of each to cover your ship. Ballista spears need more speed and range you can fire a ballista alongside of a Galleon with six upgraded speed sails at 25% weight and they will go the same speed and they barely travel the length of a Galleon. Ship parameters are way out of proportion one click into accommodations, survivability or crew should reward the same results no matter what ship one click = one crewman, 10% more survivability or one hour longer added to pay period weight added should depend on what ship it is. Starting weight on all ships needs to be buffed in general If you upgrade the planks on any of your ships you cant haul enough weight to keep them repaired due to natural decay and cyclone encounters which I have had an entire Galleon with journeyman planks front to back destroyed by two back to back cyclone storms in the same grid. (For those wanting to say carry resources in your box the entirety of my resources was 20000 wood 35000 thatch 35000 fiber 5000 metal 1000 hide and 1500 gold.) I had two players on my Galleon repairing during the first storm the second storm hit less than a minute later and destroyed all we had repaired. Ship plank hp compared to resources required to repair are in desperate need of reworking you pay the punishment in upgrading planks when you craft them you shouldn't need to be punished so harshly every time you take a little damage. Bottom line fixing what is there is what is needed not adding more crap that don't work.
