nope, i would say they should just not have the pvp Empires. People that want to grife all night long while people are at work, can go play another game or live with the rules. I do not give a shit for people that think destroying the fun in the game, while people are offline is ok and neither should the devs. They should think about giving people a good game experience and show that with a system to prevent offline raiding we can all be part of the fun. while knowing that the fun can continue even if we have kids and jobs. People with jobs and a social life are also the people with the most economic strength, not focusing on them is a big mistake in my eyes. You will not get much out of a no job, no life offline raiding bastard, all you get is grif and people leaving your game. Shut down the pvp Empires mode and get more people to join your game by focusing on the pvp Colonials. I would suggest going the other way, create a Eu, Na and Asian server instead! I do not know what to do about the pve servers, i think they should still be there own thing and you might even need to make them a lot different when it comes to how the rules and mechanics are. Pve people are usually focused a lot on role play and exploration? I think they should remain on there own servers for sure.

Please make it so that when you open up the Atlas make it doesn't ruin the user experience, currently as it stands. All I see on the map is ugly text with taxation, random names, ownership and such. Can you make it so that this information can be toggled on or off or make it so that when you hover over an island that info shows up? Would make the map so much more cleaner. Thanks

Are you looking to be a Mercenary who builds an epic fortress and lays siege to your enemy’s bases? We have you covered there too! At [A1] we have implemented a groundbreaking map design and faction system. Our 7 x 7 world includes multiple Golden Age Ruins so all power stones are obtainable, a zone for the Kraken, Lawless zones, PvE territories, and PvP regions. Our faction system consists of 3 individual groups. Merchants (PvE), which are your more traditional PvE role, will spawn with 20% more carry weight and intelligence. Mercenaries (PvP), which are your traditional PvP role, spawn with 20% more HP and Stamina. Pirates (Lawless PvP), which live on ships or on land that is claimless in Lawless regions spawn with 50% more Oxygen capacity and Gold Find as well as 20% higher Melee. I vote Bologna and Percieval get an own island each, directly as neighbors. And we can watch YouTube vids of their battles day by day

Well.. the upkeep is also to ‘hurt’ the megas controlling big islands a bit, but 500-600 coins for the largest ones are little to nothing.. we had atleast a million in stash... but they can always make it more expensive or maybe give more cost per building, there are many ways to improve this system.

But you can't force PVE'ers play PVP. They just leave the game and gona play something else. What I'm trying to say that - you wont get PVP population increase if you switch off PVE...

Lawless is bad. the radius as to how close to someone else you can build is much smaller. on pvp you would be wiped very easy. on pve you will be griefed a lot. I could come in to your lawless base and build walls around your base, ships and tames. lawless sucks.

Stay strong, be patient and plan to move when the time is right. We all wait with you, just take a knee, take a deep breath and relax. Clean your screen, wipe off your keys and change the batteries in your mouse, the time will come and cpu’s and the gpu’s will scream, servers will lag and ISP’s will drop but don’t worry, no don’t fret, don’t panic and don’t sweat. We will all meet in Valhalla as the SOTD new Galleon crosses our paths. Down our ships will go, to the bottom so deep, the sharks will swarm and our crews will shriek, just remember and never forget that we will rise again and be something great!

We are still wating on the PVE PTR to find out if there will be a resource structure or not. As for PVP. There wasn't anything like that. I to am thinking of going lawless. I had the whole claim flag. I don't want to make this game a job. Owning an island-well its a job!

I learned a valuable lesson concerning those who manage this game. I read the forums everyday and followed all the information as best as I could but in the end it didn’t really matter. This game is great and we have a lot of fun playing it but any information that we get is subject to change instantly and without notice. I paid for this experience and I now have a clearer understanding of what I bought. Going forward, expectations will be adjusted accordingly.

You basically have the same decay rates as in the lawless, plus you pay taxes and we still have to find out what happens on a potential change of ownership. This does not look good at all.

Does it feel like to you, that the majority of your traveling is into the wind? I think I might start tracking time, and direction of the wind, based on whether the wind is coming from the front half, or the back half. Just feels like the majority of the time that it is coming from the front half.

I think there was a big opportunity missed for adding several of the super-small islands throughout other zones. There are 5 point mini-spaces in the polar zones which would be great for small groups if they were anywhere but polar. I really think the system is better than the old claim flag system, but I still think we're going to see tons of abuse from the the large groups exploiting the meta to hold more than they should.
  20. 1 point
Ofcourse it won’t but it was nothing unexpected right, with such a huge map and that many people being able to play, that’s begging for alpha’s that ruin the game again.

mid-size company with small PTR presence. Was busy playing and then sleeping, and then working. So from my angle, Silence is a good sign. To be honest, my play times align with our Combat Window as it is, so I cannot say I've seen much difference defensively during my time online. Had a couple unfinished ships taken down at anchor during combat phase window, but that was our fault for leaving them unguarded so everyone could do a treasure map. I will say we were caught off guard by the gold requirements. When they said taxation would gather resources to pay upkeep we thought upkeep would be actual resources gathered from the island like fiber, thatch, wood, metal, etc. But apparently "resources" meant only gold. I do like the full island capture. This is more in line with what I had first envisioned for territory claims when I read about companies claiming islands and setting tax rates on them. Much better than the old circle claims.

I've also been told if you opt out of the Beta, then quickly pause the download, then opt back in to the Beta and let it finish downloading it fixes it. I haven't done it myself as for now running that files does the job for me.

It will definitely change, I said that yesterday. But it won’t go away, so deal with it and move on. I’m getting such a headeache from you because you’re acting like a baby with every post you make. It’s always us that are light headed even though you’re the one acting like you’re still in diapers. You didn’t hand over a good valid point as to why it’s such a bad idea other than ‘Devs this devs that, its bad because its not harder to raid.’ Grow up man, have some realistic thoughts and stop being naive and extremely hypocrite. You’re the perfect example of someone that society should definitely never depend on. Man. You’re ignoring valid things others have made in the past just so you can continue on seeking attention or whatever it is you’re doing. You’re not convincing anyone that it’s such a bad thing if you call people simple dumb and stupid. I can continue but I think best thing for you to do is to look in a mirror because you’re behaving like a child that is not getting enough attention from mommy and daddy so you’re here lashing it out on other people. The forums are made for people to make suggestions etc and other people can respond to it, and if they don’t agree with you they’re “dumb” - Wake the hell up.

Enabling clipping into the ground for structures would be beneficial for building. Much like in Ark. Fences currently are a bit of a nightmare without clipping, as is foundation building. I know its not a priority, but would like to add it to a wish list.

In PvP, there is almost always more of them than of you. Far as being a coward..... I can't say a thing. I'd run too! PvP is fun to watch... from a distance.... when they are attacking everyone BUT you. Otherwise its PvE for me. lol I did PvP in Ark and..... well.... I'm just no good at it. I SO could have been one of those hippie-chicks running around throwing peace signs and making banners declaring "Make love, not war!"

Of course it's an assumption. It's just my personal prediction based on my conversations in different forums in different gaming communities. I could be completely wrong. I'll be trying it out with whoever I can convince to come along when it goes live.

Been playing on lawless for months and was much better than the flag system. I have to say though I was on an island that was full of friendly people with the exception of the odd one or two. We did encounter foundation spam but if you place wooden posts down to map out where you want your structure then you shouldn't have much of a problem. I haven't played the test servers, I won't be taking part in them but value others who do and post feedback. Depending on what I see from the PVE test servers I will try out a flag island and try to settle there, if I can't in the end I will more than likely move back to lawless. I'm not sure if lawless is going to be the same after the update 4 days to log in or demolish but I was happy with that, I'm sure most can log in once every 4 days. I guess we'll soon find out how PVE servers will work out when they go up, I will be watching some streams who play them to get an idea of things.

The PTR is meant to last a week, or at least the PvP one was, the PvE one was meant to come up yesterday. Then the 1.5 mega update and wipe is meant to happen 11th April, but considering we are on 9th April now (well most countries are) and the PvE PTR hasn't even gone up, and I've read a lot of issues coming from PvP PTR i'm pretty confident to say that I believe 1.5 mega update and wipe will not be this week, more likely next week.

We actually had this happen to us Sunday night. We were on our island when one of my members called out that our ships were being fired on. We all ran to our harbor, which unfortunately was outside of our flag radius, and in the fight they must have put down a claim flag. The popup message was missed because it is only a small alert at the top left of the screen and stays there for about 5-10 seconds. We were all defending our boats and nobody saw it. So, within 10 mins they had unclaimed our island and started to claim it. We were able to get it back but it was way too easy to steal. We thought we were safe as long as we were on the island, but that is not the case. I hope NPCs count as someone that can contest (we did have tames in the area). If not, then you better have your ships near your claim area or always have someone stay within the flag radius.

How do you figure we didn't keep ourselves informed, exactly? We kept ourselves informed... it's not our fault the devs informed us with bogus information. They said it was coming on the 8th. Then the 11th. Then nuked the PVE server with no warning on the 5th. I guess what you really meant to say is that it's not the devs' fault that we can't see into the future.

I love the player to player trading system. It's quite nice.

Great idea for the devs to have fleets of them eh? Oh what happens when 2 fleets become 1.. oh I know.. we'll just deny that it can happen. Should stick em in far off places.. let people sail to them to fight them, not let em wander all over getting in the way. In fact.. have maybe 1-2 in a zone.. make it tough, give it a couple of escorts.. make them tough as well. But possibly allow them to peel off and chase a ship abit faster, so you can pull the escorts, sink them then sink the big guy.. but this having fleets sailing around wiping the sea out from under anyone in a raft or sloop.. well, that's a surefire way of getting rid of your playerbase. Personally I'm up for that challenge.. but not many are like me. They could even dedicate an island, every 2-3 zones, to the undead.. give them wrecked castles to unlive in and cannons to shoot and treasure to be found, with ships patrolling around it, people can go there, fight sotd all day long.. and everyone can go about their business of visiting the inlaws..

You’re the only one in a few days that quotes me. So I don’t know where it’s coming from. You’re raging because you’re feelings are hurt or I dunno why, and you’re lashing it out on anyone that opposes you. There are even people saying you need to calm down. Maybe it’s best for you to just chill and don’t play for a few weeks.
  40. 1 point
Yep people will put their flags inside buildings, on top of mountains etc.. But maybe it should be this way. That said, I think islands should be split into specific areas, each with it's own flag, placed in a unique location. Allowing several settlements to co exist on a given island.

we all know that the systems isnt going to work , all they had to do was listen to players and REMOVE SEA CLAIMS AND LIMIT THE CLAIM FLAGS PER COMPANY

The reason some of the people posting here disagrees with the new system is because they’ve already experienced parts of it in the game already. Do you remember when they patched the claim flags so people could set build permissions ? Did you ever live on or visit different lawless regions where pillars and foundations were everywhere and no one could build ? What the new system is implementing can’t work for the majority of the players, it will work for large or medium sized companies based on the fact they already exist together. For a solo player or small group of friends trying to own their own island will be next to impossible so we will be forced to live on someone else’s land and abide by the rules they have in place ( structures can only be so big, your only allowed so many shipyards or ships, you can’t build on resources or any number of things they could come up with ) If the developers wanted to make the game more rule based then they should have limited claims like people asked, that would have stopped all of the complaints and negative post you keep bringing up. What you see as a positive thing coming, others see as a nightmare. When I have asked for something positive that could come from this, you stated that a landowner could take me by the hand and teach me how to build or he may have tames that he would be willing to give me because I live on his land. This might all be well and good for helping your kids who don’t know how to play the game get started in it but for experienced players it’s kinda like a slap in the face. Don’t challenge the intelligence of solo players, they are able to play games like this for a reason and it’s not because they rely on someone else to help them. Most solo players I know like to think for themselves and often get offended when someone tries to push ideas or direction on them.

Yes good idea about making the top obstructed, indeed maybe just let us place one cannon on top deck, but not on planks placed above that first cannon. the reason I am not sure about restricting cannon placement is because I generally don't like restrictions, but then they should add the physics to force us to use more realistic designs, I mean there are reasons 18th century people didn't make the design players make ingame. There are reasons why over the course of history ships changed from most cannons facing forward (14th-15th century) to most cannons on broadsides. But I guess that would be too difficult to program, so just restricting it would be the simpler solution.

I've seen a few older posts containing parts of what, but they are a bit incomplete (imho). I know people usually get angry over posting relevant things in older threads for some weird reason, so I made a new thread instead. 1. Why does it need a rework? - Ships with ridiculous platforms with most guns on top deck facing fore or aft, all with large cannons. - Almost no-one in pvp is using gunports - Galleons with 6 masts look horrible and are totally unrealistic for the era that inspired the game's setting, even if it's not set on Earth. (17th or 18th century) - We can't create any proper rig due to lack of headsails, staysails and inablily to attach gaff sails to the back of square rigged masts - The large masts look too small on a galleon. - The gunports look a bit too large. For people who think a game full of 6 masted warships is not an issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_large_sailing_vessels As you can see: - Not a single warship ever had more than 5 masts. - Not a single pure sailing warship ever had more than 4 masts. - The largest and latest pure sailing warships, when pure sailing warfare technology was at its pinnacle, right before steam engines were introduced on warhsips, only had 3 masts. - Even the hybrid steamer warships from the 19th century in this list, that had more than 3 masts, had their rigging reduced to 3 masts at some point. I did not find examples of 15th through 18th century merchant vessels with more than 4 masts either. So do you now understand why any Age of Sail enthusiast will cringe at the sight of a 6 masted galleon? In my opinion, the ingame galleon with it's maximum of 52 gunports and about 54 meter long gundeck, looks alot more like a 3-masted 4th rate ship of the line, than the earlier 4-masted galleons. Either way it should absolutely not have more than 4 masts and preferably only 3. 2. Solutions: 2.1 Sails - Add a very large mast, with royal sails and if larger shipclasses are added, add huge masts aswell. This would both allow for having a 3 masted galleon aswell as have the masts look large enough for the galleon and potentially larger vessels. - Adding jibs and staysails It would allow to have a proper Bermuda rig for sloops, a proper Schooner-rig or just about any proper rig that needs headsails. - Separate mast and sail placement. This would for example allow for an actual brig rig with 2 square rigged masts, a gaff sail (spanker) attached to the mainmast and jibs between the bowspirit and foremast. It would also allow for a square rigged sail to be put on top of a gaff rigged masst for a proper brigantine rig. - No weight sails Because it just doens't make any sense, remove a weigth sails and suddenly a ship can carry less and starts sinking? Similar to weight reduction on tames. 2.2 Cannons and combat - Remove the large cannon or restrict placement to lowest deck and increase range of medium cannons to at least match the range of SotD. It would make people actually use gunports and give us less ridiculous looking designs. The largest guns were actually put on the lowest gundeck, closest to the water, where the ship was at it's widest, to prevent capsizing when firing them. Could also not restrict placement and make ships capsize when firing large cannon broadsides from top deck. - Add fore and aft gunports and possibly restrict cannon placement (not sure about the latter) No more 10 cannons platforms at fore and aft. - Make cannonballs protrude the hull and damage, or just make the bow and stern weaker: Turning your bow or stern into an opponents broadside becomes a bad idea and people would want to actually use their broadsides as much as possible and try to do "T-mavoeuvers" for max damage, while at the same time trying to avoid allowing their opponent to execute this manoeuver. - No weight difference for cannons between openend and closed gunports. Opened gunports in high seas would just mean ur ship is sinking very slowly because it takes on water. I mean the ships sink with one plank removed, but keep afloat with all those oversized gunports open? And why does it say submit a bug report, when i'm posting in suggestions?

Wow, thanks folks, if enough people respond saying they are with us maybe, allthough I've pretty much lost hope. I want to be clear, I think something needed to be changed with the existing claim system. I think the change was simple for PVE (not speaking for PVP). Limit number of claims, make them square and not overlap etc, BUT the key was it is clear the solution for PVP doesnt work for PVE, we're just asking to consider that. Who else do I speak for?

Above is a related "Suggestion" post I made earlier... It feels like the "Property Title" portion of this might facilitate selling ships. Vote it up if you agree..
