Hello! For all you who want to remember all your best stuff and document it for posterity, I think we can post some pics here, post your best pic of what you created on EU Pve server. Also feel free to share your feelings on what you will miss, what you look forward to coming back after wipe and so on. I will share just a little bit of something that meant a lot to me, a "fortress" I built, and some loyal, loved tames. Feels a bit sad, but will rebuild even better after wipe, hopefully!

Ok. So again - farewell my Wintersail. I actually feel a bit sad to say goodbye. But It was my first experience - I didn't know how many structures I need, for what purpose etc. All for good. My "mark-2" PVE village will be better : )) P.S. - You see this tower-like building in the shadows (second night picture)? There is a MORTAIR there. We were experimenting with gunpower in the beginning and built one. After we couldn't put it on ship, we put it in storage. And when this tower appeared - my bro put it there : ) Never use it actually.

10 People, 10 interpretations of news/patch notes/infos Nobody actually bothers to read though.. It's simple as "In relation to our Public Testing Realm overall, we’re planning to get multiple smaller clusters online which will incorporate the three game modes as well as everything else listed in the patch notes. Players can expect higher rates to facilitate fast progression and testing of the new systems along with the fact these servers are likely to wipe as needed." - quote from captain's log. They won't be "testing only one version"

I've participated in probably about 40 early access launches. So far, this is the first one that did not explicitly state there would be progression wipes in their terms. That's my only complaint, if they'd said it in the terms it would be a very different story. Not all EA games wipe. That's why those that do put it in their terms.

Not that I'm some expert, because I'm not.. at ALL...I have been in the dev kit for Ark, and I've an ark map about half way done, so I at least have a good idea that what I'm about to say is accurate. A game designers job is to make an environment that the players will want to continue playing. Not what THEY would play according to whats easy for them or what they think... because most of them I'm sure don't even play their own game. Not as just a regular player like we do. Even if they tried, they have a very biased opinion because they coded it. No, the REAL opinions they should be going on are ours. The actual player of their game. Its easy to sit back and say "well we just don't know what they're going through..." and "they could have huge plans we'll all just love in the end.."... I used to defend them too. I used to be one of the first ones to give them the benefit of the doubt. After all of this though, not the wipe but the way the HAVEN'T listened to us about the claiming system, I just can't make excuses for them any longer. There comes a point in time when you have to step back and take a larger look at things, and I did. And what I see is a dev team that only hears 'we want a change to [insert thing to be changed here]' and thats all. They didn't hear us say HOW. Or they didn't care. To me, it looks as if they enjoy creating conflict even on a PvE server. They need someone to oversee their PvE side, who has PLAYED PvE, and who KNOWS how PvE should be. Not someone who only really likes PvP, because then all they do for anything outside of PvP will still be flavored with conflict, or the potential for it. They are knowingly creating passive-aggressive PvP in a PvE environment by leaving ways open for asshats to come in and be... well.... asshats.

This game does not have Tribes. It has companies. Get it right guys.
  13. 2 points
Another frustrating aspect to the point system is that we have company members who are from all different parts of the world and all different time zones. Some of them CAN be on all the time, some work and have families and are NOT able to be on as much, some can only play on the weekends. It's completely understandable, life before game. However, that being said, if we were to assign certain skills for each of our company members to learn, and that company member is not able to be online, then we have to put our game play on hold. To me that is super frustrating and not fun at all. If I have to wait around in a game to fully play the game then I will go and play another game. Most of our company's characters, of those that play pretty regularly, are at between levels 60 - 70. We are at the point to in our game play to start look for the power stones. We want to be able to protect ourselves but every time we need something crafted someone has to respec to be able to learn something that we need. For example: One of our company members had to respec to be able to learn large cannons even though we already had a company member who had started to learn artillery but had not yet leveled enough to learn the large ones. In learning the large cannons that company member had to give up other skills that she really enjoyed in order to have the points to put towards cannons. When a game mechanic is more frustrating then fun it needs to be changed. We have the opportunity to inform the game devs how a change to a game mechanic could make the game better. It's up to them to decided whether they care enough to make that change. It's to there benefit to listen to their players. By making the game mechanics better, they have happier players, and those players may recommend the game to others, and he game continues to make money and make needed improvements.

I've listened. I've read forum post after forum post since I started playing this game 3 days after launch. I've read COUNTLESS posts about ass-hats that built on rare resource points, walled off chunks of the islands, took over a neighboring plot and over-lapped half of another persons claim, and the ENTIRE time the people posting couldn't do anything to the offender at all. And not only that, they were FORCED to endure it because if they de-claimed their one little spot they were completely screwed and would probably never find another open spot to build again. Then came the announcement that they were looking at fixing these issues and that a wipe was necessary. They proposed a system where EVERYONE can build ANYWHERE, but that all the islands would have a moderator with limited power but was also dependent on his tenants. And instead of reading and digesting that the players are no longer shackled to a claim flag, can now move around and build freely, AND can impact whether a Company can even maintain control of an island. A small percentage of people seemed to have stopped reading at the "the landowner can destroy any structure built on the island" and immediately bombarded the forums with complaints that you want your shackles back. I think everyone has digital Stockholm Syndrome or something and is afraid to be given their freedom. I mean did everyone forget all the problems that the original claim flags had? There was no simple fix for them, the foundation was crumbling and the system needed to be removed completely and re-worked.

I wanted to be smarter than everybody and avoid crowds during the first few days, so I chose E12 as my Freeport. After a long and laggy journey I settled on the first island I stumbled upon on D11. There was plenty of free space, and I was naive enough just to put a couple of flags. There was no land grab idea during the first few days, and it was a friendly community. There were a couple of small snakes and OP wolves, but otherwise, it was such a relaxing place to live. After the landgrab wars, I had 5-6 land flags with an excellent resource set. Wolves became very rare, and snakes disappeared. Since I controlled bear spawn points it, I hade a great selection of top-level bears, and trading was easy enough since bears were so OP. Every time I traveled to other tropical regions, I wondered how difficult life could be with all the nasties spawning 24/7. D11 wasn't too cold, it was peaceful but once the land was locked nobody would ever come to the island. I think I'll go to the temperate region close to tropical again.

We had dozens of 1vs1 brig fights against 8 or more back cannons , mainly because everybody and his mom think its a great idea, and we haven't had any problems to fight them, and we sucessfully sunk several of them.

I think I will be going somewhere cold. I have always liked the Tundra areas and as soon as you get a decent Yeti trap setup things are pretty relaxed The only problem is normally the lack of fiber but it is one particular resource that is really easy to transport. All I really want is a little spot to call my own

Those who follow the "META" of stacking large cannons make for an easy target. I don't understand why people complain about it. It is one of the easiest "META" choices to overcome if you are fighting this ship type. Try using your head and you will see the many flaws of stacking large cannons. This will allow you to create tactics to overcome this terrible choice. Blind spots can be abused by smaller ships to sink these. TPG has multiple videos of a schooner taking out galleons who stacked there cannons this way its hilarious. also you have so many cannons so you can "PLANK" a ship quickly this logic is a fallacy. Stacking your cannons to plank my ship will amount to effectively nothing since my repair people have all the correct cooldown's to shorten the time to replace planks. This also allows me to switch sides and continue the fight as that side gets repaired to full all under a minute. My group only use medium cannons because of the cyclic fire rate with cooldown's allows us to put 100 to 300 cannonballs into a ship in 1 to 2 passes this also spreads the damage across a majority of the ship so instead of repair men working on a single plank (or more) in a small area they must repair the ship in it's entirety. Basically overall I grow tired of children saying the game should change to their idea of a balanced system instead of figuring out methods to improve your own gameplay (Just because everyone else jumps off the bridge should you do it also). There we go someone who shares my views on Alpha testing, when they dont fix the exploits from the start, ark was the same deal. Pay me too. BTW i was original tester for Dayz too, that game went out the door. I tested it for hundreds of hours posting videos, bugs etc.. then they didn't talk to us testers right, and scrapped the whole game without warning. Then expected us to test even further. What a poor development team. I threw up my arms and said screw this i want to be paid now.

I didn't suggest swivel on ship based large cannons, I suggested it for shore based large cannons, which is historically accurate for large cannons in fortifications. The concept is there. Cannons on shore need to be able to swivel. You can't turn the fort to aim the cannons.

So the way the game is set up, we just respec to get our character to do what we want at the time, and then respec again. I really do not like this type of game play. How can we become vested in our character if it is just a temporary type thing we can change on a whim. In our company, we are constantly respecing. We have six fairly active members but there is always someone who can't do something because they have to put more points in this in order to do that. I think I know what the developers are trying to do but it is simply not working. Well, it may be working but it sure isn't fun. It almost feels like we are cheating in order to play the game but I don't think it can be called cheating if it is how the devs want us to play. Another problem is the vitamin/food thing. Everyone in our company doesn't care anything about all the food stuff because they have all figured out that it is just easier to die and not mess with it. What kind of game play is that? I use my precious skill points to fill up the food and vitamin category but I still find it easier to just die than mess with trying to keep my vitamins up without over eating. Every time I go out and die on purpose, I lose what little bit of role play or immersion into the game that I have. I think I read that the vitamins are going to be changing a bit with the new mega update so hopefully they will work better but why do devs want to create games that cause so much frustration? After playing Ark for years and now Atlas, I really do think that some devs just really like having a god like control, all the while, laughing through out their day, knowing how miserable they make people feel. Is that really a thing?
  23. 1 point
I just want to voice my opinion on the issues addressed in this thread, even though I could make my post very short and say "I agree with the previous speaker". The constant respecing: In our company we have 7 members. 4 of us are very active and play Atlas every day. Our levels are in the 60ties, so we have picked up quite a few skill points and you would think that between us we should be able to cover what is necessary, but that is not the case. Just last night I had to respec when we were building a new brig and none of us could make medium planks and gun ports. I had to sacrifice my skills in breeding for that. I do understand that the devs wants us to be in companies and to rely upon each other, but in my opinion it is ridicules that between the 4 of us we can't cover all skills. Another thing, to put it mildly, I very much dislike that fact that the devs forces everybody to be in rather big companies to be able to play a game. That should not be the way it works! I guess I should be embracing the ability to respec, for now, but I do hope that there will be a change to how the skills and skill points work in the future. Yes, guys, I know that we will get more points as we level, but leveling is harder when you reach a certain level. I'm just saying "make it more balanced". Blueprints! OH MY GOSH! It is so ridicules how this works! I thought the whole point of blueprints was that "unskilled" players could craft using blueprints. Yes, I do know that the qualities of the blueprints are better than the basic ones, but still this just doesn't make sense. I'd like to point out that even though I am not a skilled tailor in real life, I can actually sew a coat using a blueprint. So if the devs are trying to copy real life with this, they are failing. LOL! Food and vitamins! Oh dear devs, most times when I need to eat I get sick because I have consumed too many vitamins. Then when I need vitamins, I overeat. Why does eating have to be such a big part of a game? I worry more about eating, what I eat and having enough food than staying safe from wildlife. That shouldn't be my main concern, right? Yes, I do know it is a survival game, but even here when you compare to real life this is not realistic. You don't end up with vitamin deficiency in 2-3 days. I sure hope that the huge patch will bring a balance to this, and that I can stop finding something to kill me 3-6 times a day because food/vitamins are messed up. In general I really hope the huge patch will fix a lot of things that needs fixing, but I am too cynical to belive that will be the case. Right know some of us are for sure struggling with the game, because it is often more frustrating than fun. I think that every single person connected to developing Atlas should spend 1 week (8 hours per day) on playing the game, maybe then they would realize how many things are wrong with this game currently. I can try to be gullible and believe that they just don't know, but I do wonder if you need to possess a certain degree of cruelty (or even a degree in cruelty) to be a dev.

Not completely true Willard.... PVE will work or not based on how the system can be abused by using the differences between PVP and PVE... for example, in PVE I believe that under this system as I understand it, one person can lock down as many islands as he wants just by pillaring inside of rocks where the pillar cannot be seen.... don't like the landlord.... make him spend ALL his time finding the pillars you have hidden that block the metal spawn.... sure they will decay eventually, but not as quick as I can spam new ones.... on PVP I could be killed on sight preventing this for the most part....
  27. 1 point
Well they've already shown that you can have tanks and airships, aircraft etc. So you could have several era based Atlas games available as both official and unofficial. We could have Pirate Atlas, Explorer Civ Atlas, WW1 Atlas, WW2 Atlas, WW3 Atlas.. with nukes.. The only difference is content, content & more content. But before any of that can be done, we need a combat system that works, economy that works, base design that works, offline protection if wanted; that works. Without the basic systems in place, there is no real argument as to what the game should look like cosmetically. Unless you just want a pure ark 2.0 with no offline protection at all. And it seems clear that many people do not want a non offline protection game. There's 3 main arguments here: People want land to build on, that theirs for at least long enough to build a few ships to explore or fight each other with. People want a non pvp environment to Quest and Explore in. People want to fight each other (this is split between offline protection and none) And generically, people also want the Ark type Taming of animals, dinos, special creatures as well as the ability to fight world bosses etc. It's really a huge pool of desires.. but noone will explain how they want specifics to actually work, that goes for both the Devs and the players arguing. To me, there's 2 main traits of thought here, Factions = People join a side, fight anyone not on their side. Can be pvp or pve based. One just has player damage disabled. The cons of factions is you tend to get alot of solo players doing their own thing, nothing ever gets done on a global base, people then form their own alliances with each other and you actually end up with an empire based system with people doing what they would have done if it was only an empire type game. ie you join solo, you team up, your team gets bigger and bigger until you control everything. Then it becomes top heavy, too many chiefs, splits falls apart and that gives you more people to fight with, win win for pvp. So ideally, it seems empires based is the most obvious way to go. You also have a small empire base, where the max size a team can be is preset. With hardware limits on numbers of players within a set area, in a vain attempt to limit zerging. But unless those teams are directly managed.. zerging will happen anyway.. so small empires seems totally pointless, as it just cannot work. You could go purely solo.. but the skill trees and design of ships makes solo work very harsh. The other aspect of solo is the idea is to have a multiplayer game, where people team up, get social, talk to each other, learn about each other. It's all part n parcel of mmo/mp gaming to make new friends. The competitive side of it doesn't need to degenerate into us v them or narrowminded xenophobia, about people who you don't know, who might think bad things about you because that's what your inexperienced mind is telling you in your own delusions of paranoia. The world doesn't hate you.. If anything, it just doesn't care if you exist or not, until you introduce yourself to it and for that you need to talk to people. You need that worldly experience. Wether we go pure pvp or pve doesn't really matter, both can be setup for. It also doesn't matter if some people want pure pvp and no pve, as those are minor opinions. We are split between pvp offline pro, pvp no offline pro, pve. Fact of life and gaming. Have any other opinion and it just doesn't matter. So now we need to get the basic systems to work, if you introduce ideas and systems people will not use.. then you're wasting your time adding them. People will go elsewhere. And unless people are prepared to make concessions to what they come across in a game or environment, the chances are they'll spend their entire lives leaving and running away, because they just don't understand how the world works. TL:DR - I have no idea what I just wrote.. It came from somewhere deep inside my brain.

This game needs more things pirate like. boarding enemy ships should be a main part of this game. as it stands now all people do is sink each other ship and move on. We should be boarding ships, killing or taking the crew as slaves ,then we can sink the ship or steal it. There is really nothing to raid people for in this game. No valuable items. There needs to be items that cant be made by players say a statue as an example and what ever company has this on their claim gets 2x taming or something like that. Make a reason to raid people. make rare items that players can only get from enemies or treasure maps. We should be able to rape players too

Basically what they do is they bring together a collection of role players ie people that like to fantasize about dressing up as something. Then they tell them who would you want to dress up the most as. They note down their responses and this is the end result.

PKing was used when a player killed you in a way you could not react. When you where fighting a mob, walked outside a save zone. Never used it in a normal 'PvP' fight. Today they would call you a cheater our camper. UO great game for skilled PvP fights, hidding you stuff under layers of useless stuff. So the thief class had to move it all and you had time to react and kill.... The great faction fights.. Train magic . And sword skill go down. Train sword and magic go down. A missing the skill based system. Lvl system sucks.

That and it sometimes took days for a ship to sink and that was usually due to added calamity and/or missteps by the crew trying to salvage the ship. I guess in game time is greatly sped up. I never even bothered to check. Whats one hour in real life equal to in Atlas time? Full day? I don't know. If it takes 20 minutes to sink a gally with one plank missing thats quite a few hours in game time. But for some reason to capture a brig can take multiple days/weeks in game? Whats up with that?

Fight who? There's nobody actually there. Can I actually fight people on a pve server? And I don't have any tames, that aspect of the game is 2nd from the bottom of the list of stuff I want to do in game. It's a big part of why I never got into ark, I have no interest in taming dinosaurs. I want to craft stuff, build a boat, hire a crew, and explore. I'll check that out post wipe. Im moving after the summer, once that happens ill be able to host a private server(no access to router settings here) , which is how id really prefer to play.

Yes, the game lost its momentum. I played it a lot, way too much to be fair. Looking at it now it had way too many bugs and problems and i had to spend way too much time with maintenance. A bit like waking up next to a very ugly person after a long drunken night out. Time to sneak out

Yeah, each day I care less about this game and am starting to play other games. Ever few days I'll come back and see if they have their sh*t together and I see more delays. I wish I could ask for my money back. This isn't early access, this is pay to beta test. Just awful.

Well Megas will be Megas after all. A tiger can’t change his stripes. just wondering, are you trying to give the Megas a good name? Yeah that will never happen. pretty soon they will have small company servers just like they did with ark. If you thought 25 was small, wait till you see 6 man companies. Now that will be a good server.

I totally agree that not being able to learn all the skills is very frustrating. As a gamer prefer to do things myself. I like to get things done. I like to play my way. I don't like having to rely on others for my game play, or my fun in a game. I get really tired of having to respec every single time our company is lacking in something that is needed to play the game. Just as an example. I had to respec the other day because our company needed sails. No big deal. I thought I will respec make a whole ton of sails and then we will be set. So I respec I start harvesting to get what we need to make the sails, but I can't ride the elephant to get wood because I don't have tier 3 riding and I don't have enough points left to learn it. I can't ride the bear to get fiber because I don't have tier 2 riding because I don't have enough points left. I can't respec again until I level up. I am at the level where getting levels is much slower and they are far and few between. So I have to grind all the resources myself to make the sails. I am not lazy by any means, I am not saying I minded collecting all the resources but it was super frustrating knowing that if I had enough points I would be able to use our tames, that we tamed for that reason, to collect those things. Thankfully our company is amazing at team work so we worked together. BUT, I shouldn't have to rely on others to play the game in a way that I enjoy and that is fun. I should be able to learn what I NEED to learn, what I WANT to learn, and NOT have to respec every single time I, or one of our company member needs something. I really would like to learn medical. I have never learned it because it doesn't seem as important as other things that or more "needed". I love, love, LOVE the music part of the game. I love music but, again, it doesn't seem important as other things. There is even another job, Tarot reading, that is not even in game yet and if they do decide to go forward with that then I don't know. I certainly won't have the levels or points to put into that. I don't understand why we can't learn everything we want to learn. I like the mechanic they have in place that gives us points as we level. I like that we have to earn those points and learn different skills over time. But it shouldn't be limited in my opinion. Let us be able to learn all of the skills if we want to.

Very VERY stupid blocking the submarine by being forced to kill the Kraken. That has to be one of the dumbest blocks I've seen in a game. Devs, change this please. One of the sole purposes of this massive update is a new underwater exploration but you won't be able to explore this new area until you get the submarine which further emphasizes you having to kill the Kraken. For smaller clans(2-3 people) this is impossible. In other words, this part of the update is completely negated to smaller sized clans. Good job
