I’ve thought a fair bit about this, and this is what I’ve come up with: I want a place for us to be able to play and build as we want. With what they’re currently talking about, it sounds like that means we’ll need to claim a whole island. This one claim per island may be a good or bad idea. It will depend on the players to take it in the direction thy want. I tend to view the PvE servers as cooperative, instead of competitive, so that’s how I see us playing. To that end, we’ll be looking for a small island to claim. We’ll have our own section for ourselves, a public harbour with open crafting tables, and probably a community garden. Anybody will be welcome to build on our island, with the only rules being to not build on resource spawns, and don’t grief your neighbours. I’m picturing it being like a moderated lawless island. I don’t want to rule over anybody else, but I also don’t want anybody else to rule over us. I think most players would agree.

If the game is to succeed then people need to not be greedy. A person needs only a place to store things and build Not be a landlord, go play civilization if you want a city Its a game people wanna explore and build not work for others

I'm absolutely never, likely to ever rever weather feather ever ever ever ever never... EVER going to be someone's tenant in Atlas. 1 reasonable, non griefable, no douche entitled, no ones slave, just plain old simple own plot of claim to call home. That's me sorted right there. Else claimable islands are just a tourist destination for me / us, prefer to live on lawless, and reap whatever penance goes with it
  4. 6 points
Actually I was quite happy with with living on tundra lawless, but there were only 4 small companies on a big ass island. 1 claim per person in plenty

It seems as though the right decisions aren’t being made. This is becoming pretty disappointing really. they had a choice to make in the beginning and they didn’t make it. Keep with the sandbox survival like ark or go with the mmo tag. They chose to “try” to do both. It seems as though they are still trying to do both. the biggest reason they are failing like they are is that they are trying to blend in way too many different genres. Sure they are innovative and thinking out of the box as some people say . Nah it doesn’t work and it shows. this forum has become worse than the ark forums, even without the nazi mods lol. At least with ark it was just solo vs. mega and pvp vs. pve. Now we have people complain about the survival aspect and the mmo aspect. To add to that there are plenty of threads that talk about it not being pirate enough or too much like ark because of the tames. this game is becoming a smelting pot of sadness. Pvp. Doesn’t like pve. Sandbox doesn’t like mmo..... etc etc etc. really not hopeful in the slightest anymore. If they listen to one group they are happy. The thing is later on they will listen to the other group so they can be happy but once they get to the middle, nobody will be happy. its about time they suck it up and realize there will never be a lot of players playing and stick with one path because forks will just screw them over. dont give me the bs ea crap that’s old already. Ark was in ea for 2 years. Go take a look at what actual success was . p.s. by success I don’t mean perfect gameplay(please don’t complain about bugs, I don’t have any problem with any bug. Been there done that and am fine with it). I mean maintaining a steady and also high playerbase throughout the entire time of early access as well as having a huge amount of sales. this is not a success, Mainly for the reasons above

I know it’s getting a bit late in the game for suggestions, but what if instead of claiming an entire island, each island was broken into set territories that are individually claimable? Give the owner of each territory the ability to decide if others can build in that claim or not. It would be a kind of hybrid system between the original claim flags, and the new claim system. Large companies could claim entire islands, but smaller companies can have their own piece of land as well.

They are. Ark is currently ranked 13 of the thousands upon thousands of games on steam by player activity. The argument that it’s a shit game because no one is playing it simply does not hold water. You may not like Ark and you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, but if you arguing it’s quality based on the number of people playing it, the evidence is not only contrary to your assertion but overwhelmingly so. https://steamcharts.com/top

To those who may concern, Please stop claiming it’s all dead and over and please stop the constant atacks on the game and its devs. Sure the game can be improved (a lot?) and yes we need more players BUT all this negativity will just become a self fulfilling prophecy. I paid money for this game and i have had a lot of fun with it and i would love to continue playing It. We want new players to join, management to continue to fund devellopment and a dev team that is motivated to improve the game for us. NO you don’t have to lie and YES you can point out what needs improvement but PLEASE do not be so depressive about this game, there is nothing to gain by spreading all this negativity!

I'm done. As much as I love Atlas, if I can't claim my own piece of land, free of taxes, to build on, then forget it. This game was advertised as a place a company could claim some land for themselves to build on, and the Devs have taken away that one great selling point. I absolutely REFUSE to live on someone else's land, paying some stupid tax rate to them, just so they can play alpha of a whole island. Nope. No way. It means all of us who would be living under someone else's flag will have to grind that much harder to get anything done, and I absolutely refuse. Thanks a lot Devs... you really did NOT listen to a damn one of us, did you?? I don't play pvp, but even I don't like what you're doing with the claims there either. Its not right. Your 'new system' promotes Communism and abuse by large/mega companies. If you don't care that smaller companies/lone players could be treated this way, then SHAME ON YOU. I absolutely can NOT believe you read all of our comments on the planned changes, and think THIS crap is what we wanted. You've ruined your own game by not listening to your player base, AND by catering to large/mega tribes. And.... before anyone suggests that I could just go hurry and claim my own island, I'll be at work the day this releases. I, nor anyone in my company, will be online for several hours after this release to claim anything. by the time we get home and online, all of the land will be gone. we WORK for a living. This new system is not a fair deal for 'everyone'. This new shit will only benefit those who have your favoritism: megas. Thats it.

I think he means reverse natural selection, because who gets out and gets the land first? Probably not the people with big jobs or families or ...lives. What landlords will get to have un-griefed claims? Only the ones that can log in every 12 (or X) hours without fail. Christmas with the family? Forget that. You gotta go clear some pillars. I just love the long explanations of how people are supposed to try and try again if they get a bad landlord and publish his name on a list and try again. Pffft. People dropped out of the game in huge masses over lesser frustrations than that. On the bright side, almost any design can work with a playerbase of 25. These people who keep defending this because they expect to be landlords haven't realized yet that the tenants can grief them just as much as they can grief the tenants. Once they do, they won't be quite so hot on the idea.
  12. 3 points
simple fix for this game to make most people happy would just be to make everything like lawless and give each person 1 claim flag which protects there boats when they log off problem solved why is this so difficult?
  13. 3 points
there have been So Many posted requesting a claim flag limit since day one. Devs still not listening.
  14. 3 points
"We received an extensive amount of feedback from the PvE community regarding our upcoming changes. The overwhelmingly clear message was a desire to retain some form of a claiming system." The overwhelmingly clear message that I've been hearing is to keep the current claiming system in place while adding limits to them. I only wish someone was listening.
  15. 3 points
They aren't exactly listening though. People that were saying they want land claim flags still in PvE but limit it to 1 to 3 per company have now got the same as PvP. How is that listening to the community? Yes they listened to the fact people want claim flags back, but they then went and took the easy route of copying PvP system. Is that what the PvE community was asking for?

I've been trying to get some friends back to the game and the number one issue they had was they used to love boarding ships during fights. Via glider/grappling hooks etc. But after a while, everyone started putting a npc swivel on every ship bigger than a sloop. Killed their interest in the game, wondering if anyone else has the same thoughts? I think Sea of Thieves style of anchoring a hostile ship so you can actually brawl it out/board ships is really awesome and something we're lacking in the current meta.

To build a ship I need resources, to keep my treasure save I need a home. To make a gold sink I need trading route. To have some fun I need pve things. They going the right way and I and others have the right to express our concerns about the system the choose. If we do not express our concerns then we may have a shitty system. If you happy with the new system, great for you. I'm not. At least for pve, in PvP it could work.

Devs and players still seem to search for the right path between sandbox and and classic mmo, ships and tames, pvp and pve. As so often the truth lies somewhere in the middle. ARK had an very diffrent startposition because of the setting and the tame mechanic. Of course is the pirate setting hot. Alot are waiting for goog pirate games. They should let go the ARK element taming. I doubt it will work for this game, as it did for ARK. The main role here should be with ships and fortification. Different ships for different tasks. The role of the smaller dinos could be passed to the npc crew. Gathering b.e. For the survival aspect they should keep typical domesticated animals. Craft a rope, catch a animal with minigame, done. Cows, bulls, horses, chicken and dogs! Okay maybe Elephants. Parrot, Monkey and so on for cosmetic and small buffs. Rest of wildlife is to hunt. I love the gather, craft and build mechanics. Would like to see them stay. Atlas should go its own way, leave Ark behind, concentrade on a pirate world, with pirate stuff to do.

all the new changes sound so uninspired. they reek of design by committee... no vision
  24. 2 points
"Manually" destroy it means with cannons and mortars. I don't think you can do that on PvE. Only PvP. It is a complete wipe, characters and all. And the reason people are leaving in droves is because the moment the Devs announced the wipe, nothing mattered. Everything from that point on was pointless and a complete waste of time. Nah...I'm actuallly still having a great time!
  25. 2 points
I agree 100% The 3-4 people who play Atlas with me just want a simple, decent size plot to build a house, 2 shipyards, and a pen. We're not looking for a lot. I really hope we can get it.

Everybody has a system they think should be based on how they play. I believe 1 flag per company in certain zones. When you get a powerstone your company unlocks another area they can drop another flag. Eventually leading up to the areas around the Kraken only being claimable by people that have all the powerstones. The islands that are only for companies with the powerstones would damage boats and do damage (like being too hot/cold) if you didn't have the powerstone that matches the area it is too much for you to be there and your ship sinks and you die. So why would you want to progress into these zones.Mats would stack like a resource chest and remove the different types of mats needed for BP's and make them stupid expensive (legendary plank 50k wood each). Every further powerstone area would have more mats dropping and make it so you can carry more. The island outside the Kraken would be like 10x resources. The levels of monsters would scale crazy like. So you would progress further and actually have meaningful progression... This isn't how the game is though... (I'd play the hell out of that game though .) This is also just how I would want the game to be. Somebody that doesn't care about PvE progression would be like that is a terrible idea, people from my company would be like oh hell yeah no stones = no land. The thing is everybody thinks they are right and in a way everybody is right they get pissed cause they are right and by proxy the other people are wrong... That is where the problem is. This makes people like @Jatheish and @Dollie have a job that is impossible with how things are currently. Land is just 1 of many problems with this game they are trying to address. ~Lotus

this 100% ,why the devs cant see this i don't know , they despite their posts are not listening to what the forams is trying to say to them ...

The claim system is a joke, just make it all lawless one flag per company and a set area radius to build in with a one week decay timer. Simple as that.

With the new patch notes "raid windows and war tokens" this is appealing to some players but there is also a large chunk of the community that wants normal PVP without invincible god mode outside normal hours . Can I suggest we have the following :- 1- 1 server for the new ruleset (march update) 2- 1 server for hardcore mode :- No land claim Everything is lawless Standard PVP ruleset anytime anywhere Hell even put all of EU and US on the one hardcore server if your worried about population. This way everyone gets what they want , the hardcore PVP crew go one way , the rest go on the new ruleset

Hey Jat. I recently started playing Conan exiles. Never really gave it a chance since I was so busy with ark. Gotta tell you man, they got a lot of things right and you guys did with ark as well. If you would have worked together it would have been a perfect survival game. quick side note. Not being able to drink in the rain in Conan pisses me off and after the 50th time I still try it on the other hand I do like the fact that I don’t sink and drown when my stamina is gone on Conan. So yeah, big diffrence between the two but yet similar. and in all reality one more benefit from ark is tame resource gathering. The counter to that is that Conan tames will auto teleport to you. Why the hell did you not do that? suggestuons for atlas. Tame teleport to player after a certain distance. Very valuable. Thw other main problem is that everyone wants higher gather rates. This is stupid Jat, and I fully realize that you know that already. What needs to happen is that you need to make certain items cheaper and other more expensive. You see how you can control what you want to co trol now right? Yeah some people won’t get that. Anyways, do not make building more expensive and ship building cheaper lol. I get you are promoting sailing but you gotta do better than that. Hell, you added metal and sap and sure enough people were still building. you gotta realize the people that like the game will deal with anything you do and just keep going. You really aren’t Pleasing anybody by worrying about the fan boys. They take it on the chin like champs what you need to worry about is potential customers which o am sure you already know but I am saying for the sake of saying. get this thing going. In a REAL way, real quick

After reading Dollie's most recent Captains Log, it seems that the planned changes to the PVE claiming system (while better than the lawless style) simply are not a quality solution to the deeper issue. No one wants pillar spam. However, my clan also doesn't see itself returning to play under the new suggested PVE claiming system. If I am correct, this basically means unless you have the settlement claim that owns the island, you are SOL as a single player, or small community. Which leaves everything in favor of mega companies once again. It also means the settlement claim owner can simply demo anything they aren't happy with. The simply fix for this issue was to remove sea claims completely (UNDERWATER LAND CLAIMS AS WELL). Then only allow company claims based on the amount of players in the company. One per active player in the company. Once a player was offline for 90+days, they no longer counted towards the company claim totals. In addition completely removing tax banks and taxes in PVE. That was a simply, and fair way of handling the situation. Instead we get lazy solution to a much deeper problem. I continue to keep my eye on the game, but unfortunately won't be returning anytime soon. We all paid the game (EA or not). therefore we can and should expect much better service from the company than what has been shown thus far. Wipes happen in EA, however clearly lazy development solutions will not be stood by.

Want to know the funny thing? This server is +20 and easy taming and super high gather rates , this is also a player that complained about PVP , kind of says it all
  33. 1 point
Well I'm a believer of positive reinforcement. It should comfort most that the devs are listening and trying to make everyone happy. I don't think most people get that it is not a me situation here it is a we and as such the devs are doing what they can for us not just a you.. So when people flip shit after seeing the devs ideas I would suggest calm down and realize they keep trying to reassure you those changes can still be tweaked till they get it right.. So as is I am happy with the pve claim the way it is as long as I can have my own island.. The only gripe I have is the renting land thing I still go by my no one wants to rent period ask anyone if they would rather rent or own or share an island most will say they want to own and not share.. I am in the second bit there since I like building in these games so yeah I don't want to share my island.. And taxes come on no one wants to pay those in a game it's bad enough we are forced to do it in real life and turns out most of it here in the usa has been being done illegally.. lol So... Boston Tea Party anyone? Also would like to add at this point I don't envy the devs.. No matter what they do everyone still cries fowl on them.. Smh..

Atlas was never intended to go to a development process of two years - not with a full team. From an operational Economics point, it's a clever business model, like Dark & Light did. Advertise a game, sell as many copies as possible at launch, let it die as fast as possible and move the resources (manpower/programmers/devs) to the next project, keep minimum to avoid lawsuits - repeat. At 12th of march, Snail Games (new named company, ofc) is bringing out a new Survival mmo settled in wild west - connect the dots. My one and only post. Keep your blabla by yourself, i will not answer.

ArK is a shit game. If it was any good the Ark players would be playing it. Devs need to put an emphasis on fun pvp and mmo gameplay . Not Ark players fear of pvp boring gameplay shit. The mass recruit, ally half the server, and just kill really small guy tactics is not fun for most players. Most players actually enjoy challenge. And want to be rewarded for skill and tactics. They started out listening to Ark players until they realized that they were rapidly ending up with a dead server, and a failed game. The Ark style is not fun. Ark is a game where all the failed pvpers from other games go to feel good about themselves. Cant compete in actual pvp? Tame a super animal...Boom now you have skill...or..join a giant blob and outnumber some afk tribe..BOOM now you are good at pvp etc. Prob is most people find that shit boring as fuck, and will just quit if they are forced to do it and find something challenging and fun.
  36. 1 point
I believe you are absolutely right. They advertised this game as a survival MMO. The problem is only things MMO about it was the mass players everything else screamed Ark. So what ended up happening is you got a mix of the Ark players / Eve players and the two never mixed. Now Grapeshot is stuck in the middle trying to please both sides which is not going to happen. In my opinion they started out in favor of the ark players and now with the future changes specially to PVP they are trying to please the Eve play style and its just causing nothing but division even more. I think to ease a lot of frustration is to come out and specifically give the player base a long term idea where they are heading in the future with the game which I also believe they have no idea. Either way they are going to make people quit with their decision but by giving the roadmap now people will be prepared for it. I could be totally wrong but was just my opinion on the matter.

I am playing World of Tanks, of course. That is what I always do in between of other games and instead of many games. BTW. if you did not tried Fallout76 = it is really good for, probably, a month or two. Conan Exiles is also very good but you will, probably, light speed throught it for ~1-2 weeks. My another findings is Factorio. I spend whole week in there. Got lot of fun.

Welcome fellow tropican atlassian! Im glad to hear you wish to keep El Presidente safe! As for vacation, El Presidente never takes time off (seriously 25 personal days and good luck getting more than 2 days off at a time)! While I do plan to keep pillars as clean as possible, the safety at sea in not in the jurisdiction of El Presidente! (I mean have you seen our navy? Not impressive to say the least)

Why not learn from a game that works fine? Rust.. Only long time survival (player base) over it all. Keep all the pve and claims out of the pvp servers. We have been living in a lawless zone since week 3-4. No one have managed to raid us yet. We have no build restriction on our Island since there is no flags
  42. 1 point
Well I suppose that's the last refuge for one who can't support his arguments. See? He already thinks he is a landlord. Telling everyone what to do.
  43. 1 point
You really aren't making much sense. 1 claim per island. 500 islands. 5000 players. Some companies will take more than 1 island, so yes, less than 10% of the players own land. In a 20 man company, at best only 1 or 2 of them will be deciding who can build, what they will build, what is has to look like, etc. You can't really say the other bunch of them "owns land". Depends on the company of course, but it's really the company owner who owns the land because he can kick someone out any time he wants. Well, I never said that. But now that you have...Landlord DOES have everything and other inhabitants only have what he landlord says they can have. I really don't know how to explain that to you. If I want a shipyard and the landlord says no, I don't get to have a shipyard. I never talked about whether taxes were "fair", I only said people didn't like them. If you stand in the tenant's shoes, he is paying double upkeep and now can do nothing at all unless he has the owner's permission. It's oppressive. If you take away the part where only a few people get to be owners and tell everyone else what to do, taxes aren't as big of a deal, because everyone gets to levy them and benefit from them if they all own their own claim. Then people won't care so much about taxes. And you know what? It's true. The landlord can't even be away for one day because then he can't remove any pillars or crap. But that's not only unfair to the landlord, it's unfair to the tenants, because now they've paid their taxes and have to live in a dump. It's just another bad mechanism in this design. You can't even be away for a day? What the hell? You are making up strawman argments. Nobody is talking about playing the game alone just because they have their own claim. I was solo with 1 claim on 1 island before this. There was a good group of people there, all doing stuff together, helping each other tame and trade, etc., and having a great time together. We were starting to group with alliances to do things, and now they're taking that away to do this stupid claim system. So tell me again how the game is trying to encourage people to play together. And stop making up "what the developers want". You don't know that either. Because I paid for the game the same as you? Because there are entire skill trees based around building things on land? How about if we picked the landowners based on something other than who got there first? If you have a T in your name you get land, otherwise you have to rent it. How's that work for you? I have 2 Ts, I get 2 whole islands. I assume that if I pay 25 bucks for a game and the next guy pays 25 bucks for the game, that the game is not going to give him the right to cut me out of half the skills and activities in the game, just because he got here first. It's pretty clear that YOU assume you are going to have land by the kinds of arguments you make. I'd like to see what happens and what kinds of posts you make if you don't. I know how the ones who DO get land will post because we've already seen that. "I worked hard and you were lazy and didn't go out and find land and there's enough land for everybody and you just didn't want to do the work." Pfffft. One gets tired of the stupidity after a while.
  44. 1 point
why should player get to own island by being the first to log in and fastest to to download a patch ? its a joke of system they are impleneting and everyone knows it , there was nothing worng with the old flag claim all they had to do was limit the amount of claims a company could have ...
  45. 1 point
Even if there was no tax, I would still have no interest in living on someone else's land.
  46. 1 point
LOTUS while you might be a pleasant landlord there are just as many toxic landlords who taxes people, steal, or destroy their building on a whim. I don't see why they think this is the solution, they said why they were making these changes was to address the fact people weren't finding land to live on. I even heard people were coming back because they had a chance at claiming their own lands. I mean this new system is the old system, and it is why so many people were stuck living on lawless and I honestly think it has negatively impacted the PVE player base including driving more people away to unofficial servers or off the game altogether. If they really want this game to be a renter game then they need to add in regulation and protection for renters. On PVE they need to add in the voting system or a trade war so people can take over the island because hopeing they run out of upkeep. Sadly this system is the opposite of what most people were asking for, they want protection from griefing and to stop flag spamming so more people could own land. I'm sure the even fewer who get an island will be quite happy but I think a bulk of the players will just drift away to unofficial or to new games. They will be running this huge chain of servers for a rather small population which makes it a waste of resources. Good luck to everyone on day one, race to the islands.
  47. 1 point
the changes to the proposed claim rework sound good tho being able to claim your piece of land within a settlement would have been good just to prevent griefing, not sure why you do not just add a cost/limit on it but i guess we will have to wait and see how it really plays out and what needs to be changed. at least we will be able to defend our base without owning it, which was the biggest let down of the first rework announced. still after all the numerous threads about the wipe and discovery points/FOY etc...and also the future wipes announced one would think you would post something about this as well as it is quite important to a lot of your community. if you at least would explain why you also have to wipe chars or that you are still looking into it and might reconsider what you announced...just something and what your future plans are would go a long way. no matter how many will continue to tell you that wiping is super cool just look at the drop in numbers - if you don't adress the wipe thematic there is just no point in playing such a time consuming game. with future wipes do you really think ppl will put that much time into it? the acutal numbers might stay the future numbers. sure the numbers droped after release but those that stayed were playing quite a lot if you look at steam charts and it would be sad if atlas will be one of those hardly played EA games where we have so many of. mind you i really love the game but all this wiping is a real downer, might stick thru 1 full wipe but well...i think it has been said over and over in quite a lot of threads, hope you don't ignore it.
  48. 1 point
I personally don't think that land claiming and taxing other players on pve is what the community wants or needs. We all just want to be able to build and use resources with out pillars/ foundations being needed/used to ensure so. People that want land that doesn't get any are going to complain all over again and the ones that get it are going to pay for there up keep with other peoples gathering. Give us x number of resource boxes with a radius per server and as long as its full we have no decay each person[company] can distribute them on all one island for a large base or multiple on different islands on the server for small bases.
