we need the devs to start changing the crew , as i was under the impression they would be used for farming / fighting / etc , would it not make mroe sense , maybe we assign skills to them when we rescue/ buy them i.e crew memebr 1 is resource farmer so he has incresed carry weight , crew 2 is fighter so he has incresed hp / mellee damage , crew 3 is repairer so has increased repair speed etc etc etc , we can maybe go out with the gather crew and they auto gather trees rocks etc they maybe gather from the same things we hit using the attack my target command? as u say this isnt ark and the devs need to move away from tames and use crew ... tames= ark crew = atlas

Hello PathFinders! Today I want to bring up the topic of the relationship between mounted NPC and wilds. In the current state of the game wilds can kill mounted NPC on the Swivel Gun and Ballista. I believe in PvE this is an appropriate mechanic to have since players aren't trying to wipe your base. For balance therefore, the only threat are the wild creatures on those servers. PvP servers on the other hand, Swivels and Ballistas are necessary for defence and that wilds should not agro to them if not provoked. Below are reasons why I feel this change should be considered by the devs and community for discussion and input/consideration. For example, on my island I have tigers, lions and cobras for my aggressive wild creatures and the npc manned swivel guns are in turret towers/boxes. This is so they are not easy targets to snipe out. However, Lions will come up and pick them through the opening in the wall. Instantly removing my base of any pvp defences when the npc didn't even shoot at the lion. For the Cobras, they just sliver/clip/mesh right through the turret tower design foundations/walls I have built for the npcs. Also with the current hitboxes for cobras, swivel guns set to shoot wilds will land accurate hits on them about 1 in every 10 shots, which makes it nearly impossible for me to keep npc manned swivels up for PVP defences. With the Tigers, I haven't had any huge issues with them so far it doesn't appear they can do anything to the npc in the nest. Also with the NPC mounting a puckle gun cant be killed by wilds but since wilds by default target NPC they still try to kill them and will stand all around the puckle when a npc is mounted on it and block LOS effectively making that turret irrelevant. I feel a better way to obtain balance so that PVP servers can optimize these awesome defences and invent new metas for defence is to change the relationship between NPC and Wilds. My suggestion is to make it so that normally aggressive wilds do not target mounted NPC unless provoked. I feel this change would improve the balance for both PvE/PvP servers and not break the game mechanics. Keeping turrets alive on PvE is there only concern but on PvP in the current state if u live on a island with cobras and lions like myself and my crew, the only way to keep your turrets alive is to protect your turrets with more turrets, which may not even work with certain line of sight mechanics and angles with the turrets. If there is anything the devs would like me to show them about this issue feel free to msg me I believe this is a fundamental issue for defences in a game that we pour so many endless hours into.

@Jatheish (At first: sorry for my bad english, i am just a woman from germany, trying my best to write down my opinions in english) I see what the online player count is dropping down. I talked with a lot of people in different ark/atlas communitys about - why they dont log in. And i tryed to find some solutions for bigger problems. So just some brainstorming ideas. Let the players create a usefull city, a trading routes, habours and so on Bank System: Let the people up- and download gold to the own account, let them use every tribe-bank or ally bank for this. Taverne Food selling. Lets craft every tribe NPCs whos is only able to sell food, so a tavern makes sence. And buff the cooked food to something its worth shipping resources from around the world... and don´t down them to a 5-stack. Habour and growing citys Everyone can build a nice habour but for what? Look who is the bigges tribe or wich tribe hast the most landclaims in a sector. So THIS tribe, is able to place NPC Vendors or Auction buildings. If a tribe is able to create a player-friendly habour ... it will start to become a big trading habour /center. If there is enaugh space to land /anchor with ur ships, if u finde a lot of trade stuff and maby u will finde some land to rent from the tribes, for a small outpost, storage... something great can grow. Crafting a nice habour and make ships anchor. Give us a component for a quay wall, where ships can anchor. It is a pain in the ass to build a harbor and at the end the ships can not anchor. Dont let us waste tonns of struktures in the deep water to get the ships anchored. Landclaims (Idea is just for PVE. i dont know enaugh about PVP Server to make a suggestion there) U need a better system. Its not ok to run all the time to save ur claim (PvE) but also just loging in all 3 Weeks to make ur land save, its also not ok for the rest. So make some stats to check, how aktiv a tribe is/was last 24 hours / last week. Check up how many ingame hours a tribe has last 24 hours, last week. Check how many ships moving hours they have, how many ships released, how many tames got used and so on. Dont tell us exaktly wich faktors are how importent, so people dont find to much easy ways to use the mechanic in a wrong way. If u know how aktiv a tribe is and how many players are aktiv in real.... use that informations to manage how many flags they need = can hold easy and drop down the save-time for the flags. Use something like online hours or tribe aktivity points. Maby a tribe can have 1 Tribe Flag wich is save for 2 Weeks. Then set up more flags (save time 7 days) per 8 hours playtime/aktivity ... no mather 4 persons play 2 hours a day or one play 8 hours a day. If the tribe has 48 hours playtime / day - they have 6 more flags with 7 days savetimer. If they drop down the playtime to 24 hours / day ... drop down the savetime of each flag (not the one main tribe flag) to 3,5 days savetime... so they need to be more aktive or remove some flags to have more savetime. Land for rent Lets talk about why rent land/space to other players. If an enemy try to claim ur land. The tenant get an information also. The tenant has a kind of right to claim the land as first. He can take over the land before the enemy gets it. Maby let it cost an amount of 1000 Gold. (First renter on the flag, has the first right) Give this renter a chance to say "save the claim for the owner" - so flag stay save, without beeing claimed and for no money. Old ships standig around for weeks , blocking ur habour. If a Ships isnt moved for 3 days - let player klick on it to say "remove ur shit". The owner tribe get an information in a new log (tribe log is to full to find this info) , or mark it in an other color on the map). The owner tribe has 3 more days now, to just move it 1 meter (or just anchor it again) to show... its not and un-loved ghost ship, its in use. If they pass the 3 day timer... lets decay it between 1-3 more days, depents on how big the ship is. Let the people removed compleatly. If a player dont logged in for 4 Weeks. Remove them from the server. Compleatly... also from tribes and so on - clear that shit. Look into their stuf, so the tribe dont have bad penalitys cause of that. Ships - personal owner. Give the option "personal owner" to ships. Let the Ship Creater choose, its an tribe ship or an personal owner ship. And as an personal owner, u can unclain a ship, so everyone else can claim it and can choose claim as personal owner or as tribe. So we can build and SELL ships! TRADE SYSTEM! We realy need something like a trade window for an save share. Without taxes, or something like an auktions house. Just to say "take this and give me that", without the need to drop stuff on the ground. If i wanna sell a ship: I need something like a ownership notice, put it into a trade window and if the buyer put the right amount into the window, everyone can klick "ok", so we have a save deal. Same like resources. Use a selling box, put in the stuff u wanna sell and close it (say ready) ... buyer put his payment into the other side of the box and say ready, and if both klick a last "ok", the deal is done. Breeding 48 hours is a way to much. Temperatur... its to heavy to manage the breed, the babys dying to fast cause of the normal changes of the temperatur and u cant do anything against the warm/hot. Having 20 pinguins and 30 fires and looking into it for 15 - 48 hours - that cant be the right way. Sorry, but our tribe needs to work in real live. We can do it as a tribe, of cause - but if everyone needs to sleep or work... there is nobody who can manage it ... so we need some people without a work to be able to breed? In Ark i loved to be a breeder, but in atlas, its not possible if u have a real life. Ship Autopilot. I can put an npc on a ship weel and use the auto pilot. But why the hell it stop working, so far i leave the ship - so its useless? Of cause i know, it will just drive forward... yes i know, it will drive into an isle , will do nothing agains ghost ships (ok, i can set the npc on auto fire with cannons!) and will be a blind pilot. But if there is an autopilot - lt me use that! I wanna set it on drive strait forward and i can jump onto the bed on board if i think the npc need help. (i can see my ship on the map). If i loose the ship... its happed... let it be MY risc. There are a lot more ideas, but i am not sure if any one importend will read and think about it - and i dont wanna waste my time

Did you know that you can ATTACH A TORCH TO a SADDLE? Do that with your bear saddle and enjoy the torch floating above your bear's back: Oh... and here is my CREW controlling SMALL HANDLING SAIL placed in front of my Schooner. I hope he feels comfortable down there: The thing I hate in Galley in Atlas - amount of masts. I mean seriously. Bigger ship DOESN'T mean more MASTS! There are more complicated sails, more yards, etc, but in most cases THERE ARE JUST 3 MASTS (i know there were ships with even more than Galleys have here but those were just an exceptions). Check the Pirates of the Caribbean. Even biggest royal ship with 2 rows of gunports have 3 masts: There was a pirate game Corsairs before. The BIGEST WARSHIP in a game had just 3 masts: And what we have here?

so i saw in the patch notes that devs seem to be making tames an even more of a must have thing. i dont care that people want tames, my problem is that they seem to be making it so u cant live without them and i dont want to be forced to use the damn things

After the recent pro player patch i hope more of that stuff is in the pipeline, and no stone nerf to 1 HP or something. - please repair the hitboxes of small animals, rabbit, seagull. I know that the super cool nerd trolls hunt only hydra and above, but i hunt rabbits - please repair the wooden ladder, so that i can place it in 1 tile high buildings - please look over the weather system. Now we have extreme heat in one minute and ice age 1 minute later. Make it smoother. I am back in Atlas and enjoy it... till you bring the next 500% siege weapon damage buff

Ive never played Ark. Never even heard of it till I started playing Atlas. And while I like tames (we have several) - I would much prefer that crews earned their keep. A large number of crews are land based as the captain does not go to sea all the time. Dismissing them, while cheaper results in having to rehire crew when its needed. If they had land based work todo the maybe the cost of hiring them could be better justified.

This is also one of the big reasons that Atlas is failing. If people want to play ARK they play ARK instead.

Yeah, you heard it right. I love Atlas. How's that for a change? Just thought I'd add some balance to all the pissing and moaning around here. Yeah it was a bad start with lots of bugs and oh yeah, that claim system... I still don't have a claim. Searching that cold ass grid line 2 today. Never the less, I love this game. I'm in here 40 or 50 hours a week and I plan to be here a while. I have a fleet of ships, an army of bears and a million islands to explore! Having lots of fun! I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Ok, you can resume your bitching now

This. Early access lends itself to groups exploiting weaknesses in mechanics giving themselves huge advantages. These are hard to peel back without wipes. They also give players the opportunity to come back on even footing when they were wiped unfairly or just didn't like the balance of the game and won't come back hundreds of hours behind everyone else. Survival games should have server wipes as a matter of course. I'd want one every 12 months post release to keep it fresh. Also, the only reason they didn't wipe Ark was because they promised they wouldn't. So they just did it by proxy with new servers. They have not made that promise with this game.

Why traid if I can fast travel.... where are the big boat battles. Now it is the same as ark with a bit more water. If there is no fast traveling then there is more tactics. Company x is attacking company a, ok cool that means there base is weak I as company y attack the base of x. Our spies telling big fleet underway. And we going to intercept the fleet. A battle like Midway. Fast traveling only in grid not map wide

A game I used to play had an interesting mechanic for this. Open world PvP but destroying buildings was a bit more involved. I don't know how well this would work for this game. I like it in Shadowbane, but nervous how much it would change this game. I cannot predict the outcome. Just spitballing here to see what people think. Shadowbane used "Bane stones". Bane stones cost a decent amount of gold and time to create. These were used to attack your enemies. 1. Roll (build) bane stone. 2. Take bane stone to enemy fortress and place bane stone. (If you are killed before you place it then it can be stolen.) 3. Enemy nation is notified of this bane stone placement. 4. Enemy nation has a time period (24-48 hours? don't remember) to pick a time for this bane stone to go live. Attacking nation is notified when you choose time so they can prep for the coming battle. The times allowed gave the attacker a preference for the day(s) the battle would happen, but the defender got to pick the time it started. Example: We place bane stone on a Wednesday so the fight would happen on the weekend, but defender choose early morning which is good for them, but bad for us...but better then a weekday when everyone is at work. 5. At selected time bane stone goes live. All buildings around Tree of Life (spawn point and protector of surrounding buildings) are now susceptible to damage. 6. Battle does not end until either the Bane Stone is destroyed or the Tree of Life (protects buildings) is destroyed. Claim flag is the equivalent here.

So I sailed from N13 to N8 and returned, there were so many ships of the damned on way, we would encounter 4-5 of them at once. Avoiding them was impossible. Not a huge problem but the spawn rate seems too much because we saw atleast 40 of them(in render distance) in 1 region while travelling. Did devs increase their spawn rate or the ships just keep spawning even if no one destroys them and their number keeps increasing?

So those of you with the git gud posts, let me point out a few things before you condemn the op as sucking. 1. Where I live, SotD form conga lines. I've see 7 of them surrounding my ship at one time. 2. Fog. I was was just on a run to pick up some metal. The fog was so thick that I saw the cannonballs coming at me before I saw the SotD. 3. Speed. I've been running a brig with 2 speed and 1 handling sail. In crap winds it BARELY outruns a SotD. Which means, When I'm surrounded and left with few choices, I tend to eat a few cannonballs before I can get out of range. The other option, which I'm doing now, is to anchor on some island and wait for winds not to suck, which is not my idea of entertainment. 4. Waste of time. I've noticed that in middle latitudes there don't seem to be as many SotD. I'm assuming you guys in temperate and tropic zones keep them pretty well under control. In the tundra, where for example, we have 2 metal nodes on an island with 20 odd companies, we find SotD's to be a waste of cannonballs because the loot utterly sucks for the metal we have to expend to kill one. It's simply not worth the effort it takes to run to a polar region, farm metal and then, run back to our tundra just to kill SotD's. Was out with a fully gunned galleon last night. The owner lives in a temperate. He had no problem unloading a broadside onto a low level SotD just to get rid of it. In the tundra, that's an extravagance we can't afford. Therefore, before you condemn someone for speaking their mind and describing their particular issues, please consider the fact that where you live, the circumstances may be vastly different.

Because the forum only contains the vocal minority. 80%+ of my company left because they thought the human player actually mattered this time around. And I know it´s the same with the neighbours and others around. Instead all they got was go tame a zoo and ride a bear.
  22. 1 point
Tames are 100% focus. If you don't use them you are doing something wrong. There is technically not a single thing the human player is better to than tames. And that is the core of the issue. Let´s face the fact, this game is going down the drain fast because it haven´t offered anything yet that ARK can´t do besides ships. With this pace nobody will talk about Atlas in half a year because everyone besides the most stubborn have moved on. And at the same time ARK will field 40000 peaks.

Get rid of fast travel. I’m in a mega company. I prefer big fights at sea. I don’t give a shit about raiding. Raiding is usually just offline PvP against stone walls. I want people to actually be there to fight back. The main way the devs can force this is by making people truley care about their claims. My company has been top 3 since launch. We sail around and drop claim flags everywhere we go. When we raid(offline or not) we claim because that is how the game ranks companies. I don’t agree with this. Gold should be the measure of any pirate’s wealth/power. If my company wants to hire a smaller one to go greif a group then it should cost my company gold to do. Fast travelling is an easy mode way of playing this game. It detracts from the fear of dying in PvP. If my company wants to pvp then we should need to play to live. Not just play to win. The Chinese run out naked and try to punch players to death and die in so many times I can’t count. There is no penalty in the game for that because the know they can just fast travel or respawn easily. A lot of people in this thread have a lot of good ideas.

stack the foundations two high at least, this will allow you to stand and not be hit. have sneak 1 and 2 if possible. stand/crouch on the animals underside, just behind the front-most HIND leg. was having major difficulties last night with them, using the above i tamed three this morning, two level 28's and a level 30, and they were a piece of cake.

Sorry if want meele, archery and guns to be usefull, right now, just bear this, bear that, bear everything, in terms of combat?, just use bear, no skills are needed, just spec cheap into tier 2 riding, have someone in company to tame the bear and enjoy a lvl 250 alpha yeti hunting machine bcs everything gets knockback locked from the bear and for no durability cost just spam RMB, other than alpha lion that dismounts, there is no non-mythical creature that stands a chance, we don't even have to worry about our life bcs tame takes dmg first and they rapid regen as if we stuffed herbs up the ass of it. Also why do even tools exist in this game if we can just have tames do everything better than even a mythical tool.

If Johnny is level 52 and earned 24 skill points per level to that point, and a game patch says it will give him 20% more points, calculate how many points Johnny should have after the patch assuming that: A) The developers weren't drunk when they coded the patch. B) Johnny wasn't drunk reading the patch notes. C) Thinking about math when I'm gaming doesn't make me wish I were drunk.

removal of fast travel to me, was more than just for the emptiness of lands and how easy it is for mega tribes/alliances to defend them. Even though they can't portal 30 people over in that exact moment, they are able to do so within 15 or so, depending on how many they wanted to bring over. Been in many situations myself with the tribe I was in, while being raided we got cock blocked by this system but it was only a minor inconveniences cuz it was only a matter of time we had everyone back at base. the removal of the current fast travel system would also make the game truly feel big because once you have your outposts, ect. You are able to travel pretty fast across this map as we currently do. They want to create an economy with this game, have tribes trading, ect. That will fail if tribes are able to gather everything themselves because of fast traveling across the map, ect. Even though you still have to bring it to a central point after, its still a lot father to travel to xx map, get on a boat there, moe the stuff back to the central crafting point. If they remove the fast travel system, it would open up more trading between tribes across the world for resources instead of getting it yourself. There hasn't been 1 thing in this game we needed to trade for yet cuz we have enough stations for up to 4 to 5 different resources. Plus the claim system as is, is a huge part of how they rank the top guilds in the game right now. As much as I would love to see a overall cap to the claim system, I'm more on the side of removal of the current fast travel system.

About guns in a ship... ppl are tired of "shotgun" designes. Especially in PVP where a Sloop can just outshot a Galley. So the idea is simple. Limit guns to gunports. There must be also top deck, stern and nose gunports as well. There are descriptions of old age sailboats in wiki. For example No louvers sloops with 40 heavy guns on it. Besides there were 2 games before where players should construct and create their own battle machines and racing cars. And there were no creative approach in those games. Players just found the most efficient (and ugly of course) design, put it on game guides and all creativity is done. But (back to Atlas) before that, there must be a bit more boats in a game. ----- About mele and ranges weapon well... I just say it all useless compare to you brave bear tame. It's like that. You spend days creating your good quality weapon, create ammunition, and slowly go to wild nature. Dying for few times and do naked run to your corpse afraid of it's being stolen. Or you can mount your bear and do fast and comfort travel - facing whole animals prides and packs. I don't know if it works in PvP but... well you can carry a swivel with your bear... ----- I play a lot. And... I always see thing and think - there could be better or different way to design it. For example, those discoveries. You just hunt them and got some points and max lvl. And that's it. But what if you find all discoveries in a grid and get as a reward list of all resources you can find here (or even active radar skill allowing you to see types of resources in a map - same as herbalists and miners in WOW).

I do not know how it works, but the system is unbalanced as of now. In my group I was second in Levels at 41. The update hit i received one free level with 52 discovery points. I have not leveled up since. I am the one building the base and farming 60% of the materials for everything and i dont ever see a level up. Now I am the lowest man in my group in regards to level. You should only gain XP from discovery and not be capping levels based on it. As it stand I could be doing all the work and farming everything and building as much as possible but get held back do to not sailing all over the place when a core feature of the game is base/ship building.
